best believe we sailed the wave
to the long i laid the anchor in the 'Ville
and how I relate, i stay inside of my gates
paper days mess up my mind
ground zero degrees and the weather feels fine

While I'm happy that De La's music is finally on streaming services and available digitally, terrible sampling laws are what kept those brothers from reaping the benefits of their extensive catalog while Dave was alive. And they STILL had to rerecord some things to make it okay.
Dan's piece should be required reading for anybody who cares about keeping Hip-Hop alive in the future.

I’m definitely showing my age with this one. De La Soul was the fun, hippie rap group of my youth. While Public Enemy was addressing the need for social change, De La Soul was making us laugh with fun rhymes and infectious beats. The album, 3 Feet High & Rising is a classic. Due to sampling issues it’s been unavailable for streaming but is set to be released March 3. It breaks my heart that Trugoy didn’t live long enough to see it. They’d been fighting for its release for years. The music business is sooo dirty. 💔

I'll always remember finding out about Aaliyah's death thru De La Soul as they performed at back-to-school campus event in my 1st yr at NCSU––stopping mid set to deliver the news to us all. They were one of my all-time favorite groups, which would inspire much of my artwork for music in the years that followed. Now learning about the death of Trugoy the Dove aka Plug Two right before De La's big moment in having their back catalog finally getting released for streaming is just as heartbreaking #RIPDave
