🌹 Osho Daily Meditations - 111 🌹 📚. Prasad Bharadwaj 🍀 111. THE THREAD 🍀 🕉 This is the work if the meditator: to find the thread. 🕉

The world is in a constant flux, it is riverlike. It flows, but behind all this flow, change, flux, there must be a thread running that keeps everything together. Change is not possible without something remaining absolutely unchanging. Change can exist only together with a nonchanging element, otherwise things will fall apart. Life is like a garland: You don't see the thread that runs through the flowers. but it is there, holding them together. If the thread were not there, the flowers would fall apart; there would be a heap of flowers but no garland. And existence is not a heap, it is a very well-knit pattern. Things are changing, but some unchanging element keeps a cosmic law behind it all.

That cosmic law is called sadashiva, the eternal God, the timeless God, the nonchanging God. And that is the work of the meditator: to find the thread. There are only two types of people. One gets too enchanted by the flowers and forgets the thread. He lives a life that cannot have any lasting value or significance, because whatever he does will vanish. Today he will make it, tomorrow it will be gone. It will be making castles of sand or launching boats of paper. The second type of person searches for the thread and devotes his whole life to that which always abides; he is never a loser.

spent a while writing a really long text post and then my computer died before i posted it and it’s gone.

it was about adrianne lenker’s songwriting process and how i relate to it as a visual artist. i still wanna post these quotes from a new yorker article.

buck meek on adrianne’s process:

“It’s as if she removes her conscious mind from the room. She’ll hold her guitar, and she’ll start to speak in abstractions, or speak in complete nonsense—just sounds and shapes. Then she emerges from that space, and slowly the words start to form into syllables, and into the English language, and become a story, or a character, or a reflection of her own experience. But it has this really clear element of . . . grace.”

adrianne on her process:

“I never think, Oh, I want to make something that sounds like this. It’s just reaching for elements. I see the visual of translucent ribbons flowing in a riverlike way—they’re multicolored. And maybe there’s one specific color that I want to braid in, and they’re all flowing by, and maybe it’ll go by for a while with nothing of that color, and then, ‘Ah, there.’ ”

anyways, im not gonna write it all out again, but i was thinking about how i create from a similarly intuitive place. and that this process comes through in her music and that’s a big part of why i feel so connected to her as an artist.

and then this part actually i do wanna write again, i wanna have it in words and not just drifting in my head. thinking about how her description is very linear with a forward motion, and it makes sense because a song’s motion is like that of a river. then thinking of what might be analogous to this in visual art. personally i see a single image as a moment, it could be one beat or bar or line of a song, and a song contains a series of moments like images, which flow and flow forwards but also rest in similar places with a chorus or theme. actually i thought about this with my thesis, what my sister said about how each time the chorus comes in it holds more/new meaning because of the verses that have come before. i thought of the recurring symbols in my book like that.

so what this comes to is that i want to keep thinking of my art process as creating a song. this is how it comes to me instinctively, in fragments and feelings that can feel abstract, and i don’t know exactly what story they tell until i have let them drift to settle together. the practice of making intuitive comics feels very much like this songwriting, and i think will feel great to create without the pressure forming a structured and aestheticized foundation. thank you adrianne and big thief for the inspiration and vulnerability.
