Day 25 - USA Road Trip Today we crossed Washington State checked out the historical city of Wallace in Idaho and arrived at the picturesque city of Missoula in Montana. The roadway views are still fabulous. We ate some BBQ and tomorrow off we go to Yellowstone! Day 4 - Alaska road trip from PA We are halfway through! Another 1,975 miles to go. Canada border was easy to cross. Day 24 - USA Road Trip We completed our city tour today by visiting Pike Place Market (famous for its fishmongers), The Gum Wall (brick walls covered in chewing gum since 1990), where I was able to stick my gum to the wall and for my kids it was hilarious to do so, ha ha; we also visited the first Starbucks coffee store in the world (established in 1971), and the Museum of Flight (the largest private air and space museum in the world). This Museum is located a few blocks from the company Boeing and I saw many Boeing 737 airplanes from different airlines, parked all over the parking lots, I guess these are the airplanes waiting to be repaired. A really cool day. Terminamos nuestro recorrido por la ciudad visitando Pike Place Market (famoso por sus pescadores), The Gum Wall (paredes de ladrillo cubiertas de chicle desde 1990), donde pude pegar mi chicle en la pared y para mis hijos fue muy gracioso hacerlo, ja ja; también visitamos la primera tienda de café Starbucks en el mundo (establecida en 1971), y el Museo del Vuelo (el museo de aire y espacio privado más grande del mundo). Este museo está ubicado a pocas cuadras de la compañía Boeing y vi muchos aviones Boeing 737 de diferentes aerolíneas, estacionados en todos los estacionamientos, creo que estos son los aviones que esperan ser reparados. Today we are visiting Seattle, the Emerald city (evergreen forests all year around). I was able to connect with my beautiful friend and she took us on a city tour where we able to enjoy some tourists attractions: Space Needle, Seattle Great Wheel, and Wings over Washington. Day 22 - USA-Canada Road Trip Vancouver is a beautiful coastal city and they have black bears too. Lol! We visited Capilano Suspension Bridge, this bridge was built in 1889 and it’s 450 ft (137m) long and 230 ft (70m) tall, the whole family enjoyed the long walks and nature’s views. Did you know that half of the population of Vancouver has an Asian heritage? Well, they do; therefore Asian food is super yummy!! Day 21 Tomorrow we will hit Vancouver, our last city in Canada. The scenery is still precious and wildlife is notable on all roads. I mapped out our full itinerary and we have driven 6,904 miles (11,111 KM) until now! Day 20 - USA-Canada Road Trip We are still traveling through the Rocky Mountains in British Columbia - Canada. The scenery is not the same, each road we have taken since we started at the beginning of June has been mesmerizing. These are the pictures from today. Day 19 After all this driving back and forward from USA and Canada, I would like to tell you that Canada does a better job at highway maintenance and rest stops than Alaska. On another note, if you do a road trip and want to see a lot and enjoy the most, you can’t sleep as much. Every day we wake up around 6 am so we hit the road around 8 am, we drive an average of 8.5 hours a day until the next hotel. Depending of the itinerary, some times we stay 2 nights in a hotel so we do activities in that city. We are carrying tons of snacks for the kids which is definitely needed. We are halfway through and so far everything has worked out. I will have more tips about road trips with 4 kids in the upcoming weeks in my travel blog: travelingourworldwithck Después de todo este viaje de ida y vuelta desde EE. UU. Y Canadá, me gustaría decirles que Canadá hace un mejor trabajo en el mantenimiento de carreteras y paradas de descanso que Alaska. Otro punto: si haces un viaje por carretera y quieres ver mucho y disfrutar al máximo, no puedes dormir tanto. Todos los días nos levantamos alrededor de las 6 am, así salimos a la carretera alrededor de las 8 am, manejamos un promedio de 8.5 horas al día hasta el siguiente hotel. Dependiendo del itinerario, algunas veces nos quedamos 2 noches en un hotel, así hacemos actividades en esa ciudad. Llevamos toneladas de bocadillos para los niños ya que definitivamente se necesitan. Estamos a mitad del camino y hasta ahora todo ha funcionado. Day 18 - USA-Canada Road Trip. We are back to Canada. At the end of this trip we have crossed borders 3 times in Canada and 3 in the USA. We even saw another bear today. It’s like being on a safari! Day 17 We said goodbye to Anchorage and started driving towards our next adventures: Vancouver, Seattle, Yellow Stone and Mt. Rushmore. We drove west on Glenn Hwy and it was another beautiful drive. You will see what I mean when you see my pictures. We stop at Tok for the night and stayed at this beautiful cabin in the middle of nowhere. These cabins are great for staying also mid-September up through the winter months because they say they have the best view of the aurora borealis. Day 16 We had a nice drive from Anchorage to the city of Whittier (1.5 hours), where you need to pay a hefty toll to go through North America’s longest shared rail and car tunnel (Anton Anderson Memorial) which operates on a timed schedule allowing one-way traffic through the tunnel (3 miles long). There we took a day cruise throughout Prince William Sound and the Chugach National Forest (2nd largest rain forest in the USA). We saw 5 orcas playing around and 26 glaciers (of over 100). Glaciers are rivers of ice formed when snow does not melt from one year to the next and Icebergs are pieces of glaciers (when a piece of ice breaks off icebergs are created). I also learned there are 5 types of salmon: Chum, Red, King, Silver and Pink. So guess what I had for lunch? Salmon chowder. You can’t get it fresher than this! Tuvimos un viaje agradable desde Anchorage a la ciudad de Whittier (1,5 horas), donde debes pagar un peaje considerable para atravesar el túnel ferroviario y de automóviles más largo de América del Norte (Anton Anderson Memorial), que opera en un horario programado que permite el tráfico por el túnel (3 millas de largo). Allí hicimos un crucero de un día por “Prince William Sound” y el Bosque Nacional Chugach (el segundo bosque tropical más grande de los EE. UU.). Vimos 5 orcas jugando y 26 glaciares (de más de 100 que hay). Los glaciares son ríos de hielo que se forman cuando la nieve no se derrite de un año para otro y los témpanos de hielo son pedazos de glaciares. También aprendí que hay 5 tipos de salmón: Chum, Red, King, Silver y Pink. Entonces, ¿adivina qué he comido? Day 15 Today we are visiting Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city. Our first stop was Moose’s Tooth Restaurant, known for their famous pizza. We also visited the zoo, where we saw many animals including a polar bear (he was hidden). Did you know that polar bears are the largest land predator in the world? 60% of their global population are found in Canada and they evolved from brown bears nearly 200,000 years ago. Also, they do not have white hair. Each hair is made of keratin and is transparent with a hollow core. It appears white because it reflects visible light, much as snow. Impressive animals! Hoy estamos visitando Anchorage, la ciudad más grande de Alaska. Nuestra primera parada fue en el restaurante Moose's Tooth, conocido por su famosa pizza. También visitamos el zoológico, donde vimos muchos animales, incluido un oso polar (estaba escondido). ¿Sabías que los osos polares son el depredador terrestre más grande del mundo? Day 14 We survived the first night of camping. There are approximately 350 grizzly bears at Denali National Park, thankfully my kids were so loud that scared the bears away! Today we did some hiking and it was priceless, nature is all the beautiful words you can think about it! An interesting fact is that Denali National Park has one road that is 92 miles long (148 km) and if you want to see most of the park you need to do it using a bus from the park and pay a fee (your car is only allowed up to 15 miles into the park). Sobrevivimos la primera noche de campamento. Hay aproximadamente 350 osos pardos en el Parque Nacional Denali, ¡afortunadamente mis hijos eran tan ruidosos que asustaron a los osos! Hoy hicimos algunas caminatas y no tiene precio, ¡la naturaleza es todas las hermosas palabras que puedes pensar!
