It's AU time!

Using the powers of magical creatures called Kwami, they transform into the superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir. With a mission to protect the city of Paris from the evil Hawk Moth, who desires to take Ladybug and Cat Noir's Marvelouses and gain the power to change reality, with the ultimate goal of saving her wife.

Additionally, the Marvelous have the ability to magically disguise the identity of the wearer to human observers, regardless of how similar their civilian and costumed forms appear.

Favorite Romy fics

Day 4 - Wednesday, February 23rd - Favorite fanfics

There are so many great stories and talented and creative authors out there in the Romy fanfic space. Here are a few of my very favorite fics, which I go back and reread regularly. Several of these fics are unfinished WIPs, which I'll note with a *. I've come to realize I'm a glutton for punishment when it comes to WIPs, but these fics are so, so worth it.

The Ante * by Lucia de'Medici (@nxctuaryninetythree) | Words don't really express how much I love this story. I read it very early on in my Romy fandom and this story is a big reason why Evo!Rogue is my favorite version. It's beautifully written, and each Romy moment feels tangible and real. Hell, the whole fic feels real. Her descriptions are rich and vibrant, and she has created this magical world of mutants and bayous and thieves and first loves that sticks with you long after you read the last/latest chapter.

Porch Swing by Máiréad Channing | In my own fanfic fan world-building head, I picture this one shot as the ultimate ending to The Ante. Evo!Rogue and Gambit are happily living together in New Orleans here and genuinely seem content. Gambit doesn't technically appear in the story but his presence is deeply felt throughout. Jean Luc LeBeau makes a guest starring appearance and it's fun to spend some time with him and see him and Rogue interact.

Love of my Life by Seven Sunningdale | This fic is legendary and not only because it's no longer available online. It's an epic tale set in the Evo-verse with plenty of twists and turns and pure unadulterated Romy angst. Even after almost 80 chapters, I wasn't ready to say goodbye to this story and its full-bodied characters. Such a unique take on both the Evo cartoon and the characters we know and love.

Blind Sight * by Valerie J | Sequel to Thick as Thieves, Blind Sight could very easily be turned into an HBO series. It literally has everything in it. Betrayal, redemption, romance, adventure, a full X-Men cast.... plus, we get a front-row seat to the inner workings of the Thieves Guild. It's just such an excellent caliber of work and I enjoy how all the characters, even the minor ones, are fully fleshed out.

So Impossible * by Adriadne Quinn. This was among the very first Romy stories I read, if not The First. So I feel very nostalgic about it. This story has stayed with me through the years and I credit the author's X-Men stories for getting me interested in the Evo-verse.

Mamas Know Best by @jehilew | In addition to exploring Rogue's complicated relationship with Mystique and dealing with her subsequent death, there's the strong undercurrent of Romy flowing throughout. Despite it not being a traditional Romy story, the relationship is still portrayed with such depth and complexity. By the end, the familiarity and trust between the couple is palpable.

Broken * by MortonGirl | The characters felt real and the burgeoning Romy relationship is so sweet and true to the characters. The overarching plot is a great creative take leveraging the comic storylines but also feels right at home in the Evo-verse.

House of Cards Trilogy by @ludi-ling | HoC and its sequels are unparalleled works of art. They are gritty and sexy and so true to Romy. Ludi has a knack for writing these characters and they are most definitely on display in this trilogy. Great storytelling, characterizations, and creative take on the comic storylines.

Devil's Poison * by @codealiaswave | Another fic that dives deep into the Thieves Guild. The attention to detail in regards to the world-building that is displayed is amazing. It really helps elevate the fic and brings it to life. Not to mention the explosive tension between Gambit and Rogue who start off as enemies. Excited to see this story continue.

Like a Thief in the Night by hbcooper | A fun New Orleans-based jaunt that features Rogue and some fun Thieves Guild member appearances. The last chapter is definitely worth the wait 😉

Literally anything by Tamarai | Her Romy stories are so much fun. She has such an extensive story collection, which span the different universes. Highly recommend.

There are so many more fics I adore but these are the ones I read again and again and again. They've gotten me through hard times and fun times and have definitely inspired me to write my own fanfiction. 💛

Rogue only makes a brief appearance at the very end, though her missing presence is felt throughout the story. The story mostly focuses on the growing friendship between Remy and Bobby. This fic is included on the list because it is the set up for ‘Blind Sight’ and it’s also a good story. It also includes one of my favorite descriptions of Remy's moral code--"Love wit' all y' heart, protect y' friends and fam'ly and s'vive no matter what, so long as the first two are kept safe." (Chapter 8)

Not only must the X-Men re-evaluate their understanding of who Gambit is, they come to rely on him. The fic gives us a BAMF-Remy whom you mess with at your own peril. Add to this Rogue and Gambit’s roller coaster of a relationship and some of my favorite domestic Romy moments. Confessions are made, high risk heists are planned, and the fate of the world is at stake.

With Romy scenes few and far between in the comics, it is a breath of fresh air to have Rogue and Gambit working together on Guild business and being the team we all know they are meant to be.

Notes:

This story is lush with detail and imagery. Code has come up with not only some absolutely fascinating and in-depth workings of the Guilds, she created a rich, mythic-level lore that really ought to be canon. It is an amazing enemies to lovers to…you’ll see. Once you start reading, you can’t put it down. While it is categorized in the Movie-verse, the fic takes full advantage of the comics to fill in the missing parts the movies don’t cover. In the end, it’s a world very much of Code’s own creation, but feels exactly like the movie (or comic) world you always wanted to experience.

This series is a lot of fun. I love Rogue and Gambit’s relationship. They’re really supportive of each other and encourage each other a long the way. It’s a story of love, friendship, and family. And, just wait until you find out what Rogue steals. ;)

Hand Over My Body is my favorite installment in this series. Like the others in the series, it touches on Rogue and Gambit’s involvement in the Thieves Guild, but it also features one aspect of Rogue’s mutation I don’t think gets covered enough. What happens when a personality she’s absorbed takes over (and this time, she can’t just lock it away)?

X-Men: Evo

While Rogue and Gambit might not be the ‘King and Queen of Thieves’ in this story, they are definitely the prince and princess.

Here is my Western-AU X-Men Fan Fic for Rogue/Gambit Week 2022! This is the Prologue and chapters 1 and 2 but I have about 7 chapters written and more on the way. Enjoy and Happy Rogue/Gambit Week!

According to my clock here in Australia it’s the 20th of Feb, which means Rogue & Gambit week 2022 has started. Hurrah!

Once again, I have decided to put all the prompts together into one story, and this is chapter 1. I will be posting daily, but this year only one of the prompts really matches with its associated day. So in addition to posting a chapter every day, I will also be sharing a snippit or two in line with the prompt.

The prompt for Day 1 is Thieves Guild/King and Queen of Thieves. Under the cut is a spoiler/preview of Chapter 4:

Gambit focused on the safe door, carefully placing kinetic charges inside the door mechanism. Too little and it wouldn’t work. Too much and it risked damaging the merchandise.

“I’m still a little disappointed that the whole ‘listening to clicks’ thing doesn’t actually work,” Rogue said, her eyes on the small window in the door.

“It does, just only on older safes,” Gambit said. “And you need to graph the results before you can figure out the exact combination. It’s much harder than seen on TV. And time consuming. Drilling’s usually better, but it’s noisy so…”

Satisfied the charges were high enough and appropriately placed, Gambit let them explode. The safe door opened.

“My method is way more efficient,” he said with a grin.

Rogue grinned at him and dashed over with her bag to help load all the gold jewellery inside. They loaded up as quickly as they could and stood. Rogue spotted a single gold necklace that had been dropped on the ground just as Gambit headed for the door.

“Ooh, pretty,” she said as she picked it up.

“Admire it later,” Gambit replied, his eyes on the window.

Rogue shrugged and dropped it down her bra, and adjusted the bag strap over her shoulder. Gambit opened up the door, and the two slipped back out into the night. They had to dodge a couple of guards along the way, coming to check a disturbance, but that was the only issue. They got into their stolen car and drove off.

After switching cars a couple more times, they made it back to the hotel they’d been staying at. It was a nice little resort, thought a little too ‘outdoors’ for their usual taste. Only then did Rogue finally take the gold necklace out of her bra.

“Has that been in there the whole time?” Gambit asked her as he undressed.

“Yep,” she replied and held it up in the light. “It’s pretty. It’s completely over the top and I would never, ever wear it anywhere, but it’s still pretty.”

Gambit chuckled. “I’m sure we can find something in the bags you might like better.”

Rogue smiled and set the necklace down. “I should put this with the others.”

Gambit caught her around her waist as she bent down to add the necklace to the bags.

“So,” he murmured into her ear as she stood back up again. “You hiding anything else anywhere?”

“Only one way for you to find out.”

His hands started to move, to take her up on her invitation, and then stopped. Instead he just held her close and breathed in her scent.

“Aww, no frisking?” Rogue asked, half flirting, half pouting.

“No, not now…” he said softly, just feeling abruptly overwhelmed by her. “If I do that now, I might find my heart. I don’t know when you stole it from me, ma chère, but I don’t want it back. You can keep it.”

Rogue was silent for a long moment, far longer than Gambit liked. Then she finally replied:

“I put it in my chest, where my heart used to be,” she said softly. “You’ve already taken mine for your own.”

Gambit smiled. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

Day 6 Rogue and Gambit Week - Some of my Headcanons

* Gambit's mutant power gives him a general sense of the energy potential in objects and people around him and he is very sensitive to subtle changes within a certain range, including significant mood shifts that effect muscle tension and people coming and going. This is how he reads and manipulates people or feels when someone is in the vicinity.

* Rogue's power developed as a sort of self defense mechanism against some kind of abuse in her early years within the commune and her distrust issues go back to not having reliable, trustworthy adults as a child.

* Rogue has some musical aptitude. She can play the guitar and likes to sing - probably Folk, Country, and Classic Rock. She didn't have a television in her younger years.

* Gambit has light sensitive eyes and wears sunglasses in public during the day around humans, also to avoid people staring and being identified.

* Maxime and Manon are Rogue and Gambit's kiddos from another universe.

* Rogue loves to read, mostly romance novels of every genre.

* Gambit is a nerd and loves Science Fiction and Fantasy movies.

* Rogue can't cook much outside of a box recipe.

* Gambit loves to cook from scratch and can be something of a foodie, but will also eat just about anything if he's hungry ... which he constantly is.

* Rogue never gets sick due to her absorbed Simon powers and former Carol powers, but with only her baseline mutation she does.

* Gambit loves to lounge some, but he doesn't sleep well partially because his powers make him a bit hyperaware/hyperactive, but also he's a light sleeper due to his time on the street and training as a thief and PTSD/nightmares. He also sleeps very warm due to his powers, so probably wears very little to bed.

* Rogue LOVES to sleep in and probably in the buff because it's one of the few times she doesn't have to cover up out of fear. She has some trouble with nightmares due to residual personalities she has absorbed.

* Gambit is related to Sinister, but not his clone. He is some kind of escaped experiment perhaps, but how is unclear. I like to think he is a mutant clone version of Adam Essex, Sinister's long dead son, but that Sinister had nothing to do with his creation and thus where he came from/why he was created is a huge mystery and stems back to the Black Womb. He may share some spliced genes with the Summers line ancestry, making him a kind of but not really Summers brother.

* Rogue's father Owen was not actually her biological father and he either found this out or suspected it all along, hence why he left and never maintained contact and Rogue still hasn't divulged or acknowledged her original surname.
