Slipped Away
It’s Steven’s birthday and Greg is thinking about his mom. But, that won’t get in the way of their fun day out in Delaware.
⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️
He missed her… He missed everything about her… Her smile, her laugh, her curiosity about Earth. Everything….
He misses his girlfriend dearly.
Greg Universe sighed, and checked his phone — It was August 15, Steven’s Birthday. Greg looked up at the ceiling of the wooden beach house. He looked at his phone, his wallpaper was of him and Steven with the Crystal Gems. Greg sighed again, he opened his phone went to his camera roll, and found a file titled “Rose.” Greg’s finger hovered on the screen, He pressed it and then saw videos and pictures from his VHS tapes that he and Rose recorded together.
Greg saw his favorite one. That was the day that She was going to have a baby with him. When his girlfriend told him that she and Steven couldn’t both exist, he was devastated. He wanted to be with her for the rest of his life. He wanted to grow old with her — well, she couldn’t age because her body was just an illusion. Greg didn’t understand Gem stuff, and he probably never will but….
He knew that he missed her a lot. But, at least he has Steven. He smiled as he sat up, the man looked up at his loft bedroom, the half-gem was sleeping peacefully in bed. Steven was kind enough to have him stay over the night for his birthday tomorrow. Steven, Amethyst, Connie, Lapis, Paradot, and himself were all going to go to the arcade together.
Greg saw a video, he read the top of the screen that said August 2, 2000 9:42 PM. He clicked on it and started to watch it.
“Hey, you wanna dance?” Greg asked her. Rose smiled and walked towards him. Rose was nine months with Steven. And they were trying to spend as much time as possible.
Greg smiled as he set the camera up on a tripod. He walked over to her, wearing his Jordans that he got at a thrift shop. Rose had a pair of Jordans too, but the Nike Swoosh was hot pink — just like her hair color, and the rest of the shoe was white. They danced to the music of “Your Beautiful” by “James Blunt”
Greg and Rose both kissed after the song ended. Greg put his phone on the charger and tried to get to sleep.

“Hello, people of YouTube!” Steven Quartz Universe said, smiling, it was eight in the morning in Beach City, and his laptop was playing Sonic The Hedgehog 4 music. He dressed in shorts, walked to his dresser, and picked out a shirt, he picked out a white Metelacia T-shirt, slipped it over his head adjusted it. He clenched the fabric softly where his gem was placed and smiled, he ran down the stairs with his camera and got started on breakfast.
“Okay… Let’s see—“
“STEVEN!” Amethyst screamed in his ear making the boy jump a few feet in the air. Literally.
“Ah, Amethyst!” he yelled. Amethyst laughed as she saw the half-gem boy float down to the ground.
“Happy Birthday, dude!” She said. Steven smiled and hugged his friend. “You excited for today?”
Steven nodded.
Amythest saw the camera recording. “Ohh! your vlogging for YouTube!” “Yeah! It’s a birthday vlog thingy,” he said as he continued cooking his eggs. he put them on a plate and ate them.
Just then, the screen door opened. It was Connie, Steven’s best friend. Steven ran up and hugged her. “Happy Birthday, Steven!” Connie said.
“Thanks, Connie!” he said happily. “Hey, where’s Pearl and Garnet?” she asked.
“I don’t know.” Then, he got a video call on his laptop, the music lowered as his MacBook Pro started showing an icon. Steven ran up the stairs, sat on his bed, and picked up his laptop, he saw that it said ‘Paradot’ He smiled as he clicked the green Accept button.
“Hey, Paridot, Lapis. What’s up?”
“Happy Birthday Steven!” Both Lapis and Paradot said.
Steven smiled. “Thank you,” he said.
“Hey, I’ll see you at the party.”
“Okay! we're having it at the arcade right?” Lapis asked the boy.
Steven nodded. Then she hung up after exchanging goodbyes. Steven walked downstairs and got a text from his dad.
Grab a pair of shoes, Schtu-ball.
Steven sent a thumbs up emoji and went upstairs grabbed his white and red Jordan’s and tied them with a pair of socks. He went downstairs, Connie was sitting in the kitchen with Amythest, talking. Greg walked in.
“Happy Birthday, Schtu-ball!” he said, Steven ran up to him and hugged him. “Thanks, Dad!” Greg smiled picked him up and spun him around. Steven laughed as he was being spun.
“You kids ready to go?”
“Yeah!” the three of them said.
⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️
Steven was in the front seat of his father’s mid-1970s Dodge Tradesman, Amethyst and Connie both sat in the back then they got going. Greg put it on his iTunes and then picked out a song called 'Lonely Day' by 'System Of A Down.'
"Such a lonely day, and it's mine
The most loneliest day of my life
Such a lonely day should be banned
It's a day that I can't stand"
Greg and Steven sang the lyrics to the song, Steven opened the window and put his hand out, the smell of the sand and the salty beach air hit his nose as they drove.
"The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life
Such a lonely day shouldn't exist
It's a day that I'll never miss
Such a lonely day, and it's mine
The most loneliest day of my life"
Steven turned to his father, he was curious why they didn’t go to the arcade like they planned to.
"And if you go, I wanna go with you
And if you die, I wanna die with you
Take your hand and walk away"
The solo kicked in, they listened to it. Then someone broke the silence. “Yo, G. Why aren’t we going to the arcade?” Amethyst asked. Connie looked at the back of the driver’s seat. Greg smiled and said nothing, Steven was wondering that too.
“Daaaad! Why aren’t we going to the arcade?”
“You’ll see soon enough, Steven. It’s a surprise.” Seven nodded, stars still in his eyes as he sat there. Can’t help to contain his excitement for this trip.
"The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life
The most loneliest day of my life
Life
Such a lonely day, and it's mine
It's a day that I'm glad I survived"

They've made it to the Bowling Alley located in Pike Washington Delaware–Pleasant Hill Lanes was their party destination. Steven had birthday parties here since he started growing up at eight years old.
“Dad! Where bowling?!” Greg smiled and ruffled his fluffy hair. Steven smiled and stepped out of the van. He got a text from Pearl that their table was ready. Steven smiled as he saw the place.
The half-gem boy's eyes sparkled as he saw a spacious bowling alley with a large open area and various seating options. There are multiple rows of bowling lanes, some of which are lined with green pins. A total of six bowling lanes can be seen in the scene, each one having its own set of pins and bowling balls.
The room is filled with various furniture pieces such as chairs, couches, and tables. In addition to the bowling lanes, there are two couches placed at different locations within the space. One couch is situated closer to the left side of the room, while another is located near the right side. There are also several dining tables scattered throughout the area, offering a comfortable setting for guests to relax and enjoy their time.
“Where are Pearl and Garnet?” Connie asked.
“Pearl texted me that she was at lanes one and two,” Greg said. Steven ran to lane one to see the pale-skinned gem setting up. “Pearl!” Steven said, running towards her.
“Hello! Steven! Happy Birthday!” Pearl said, hugging him. “I can’t believe that you're fourteen!” Steven smiled and looked around, there were balloons, plates, and chairs decorated with a Transformers and Sonic The Hedgehog theme.
“Everything looks great, Pearl!” Greg said. She gave them a thumbs up.
“Who’s coming?”
“Sadie, Lars, Sour Cream, Onion, Kiki, and Buck,” she said, reading the names off her clipboard.
“Ugh, you look like a high school teacher holding that, dude.” Amethyst rolled her eyes at her.
“Amethyst!”
“What?! you do!”
“Hey, has anyone seen Garnet?”
“I asked her to get some food for the party,” Pearl told the man. Greg nodded
Steven looked at the arcade. “Amethyst, wanna play at the arcade?”
“Okay! Yo, Greg, can you give us some cash!” She asked, Greg nodded, pulled out his Batman wallet, and handed them twenty dollars.
“AWESOME!” Both Amythest and Steven both said, both Gem and Half-Gem ran to the arcade.
Then, Greg saw Garnet walk in holding veggie platters in her hands. “Hey, Garnet. What’s up?” Greg asked. Connie stood there, Greg noticed this. “Connie, you okay?”
“What? Yeah! I’m fine I’m going to play with Steven and Amythest.” she said, walking off.
Greg, Pearl, and Garnet were setting up. Garnet was opening up plates and napkins, Pearl opened up the veggie platter, she tried not to gag and cringe in disgust from the sight of food, and thinking about people eating it. Greg stared at her.
“Pearl, you alright?”
“Yeah yeah! I’m fine! just the sight of food makes me…..” she couldn’t finish that sentence.
Geeze… she’s so dramatic. Greg thought to himself, as he looked at his phone, Steven’s cake was ready to get picked up. He was going to a special bakery in Delaware to retrieve it.
Greg grabbed the keys to his van and he walked out of the building. He unlocked his van sat inside and turned it on, the engine hummed to life as he drove to the bakery.
He was at the bakery, A woman walked out with his cake. “Here you go, Mr. Universe.” Greg smiled as he paid for it. He grabbed the box and went back to his van.
⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️💎 ⭐️
He drove back to Pleasant Hill Lanes and went inside. Steven, Connie, and Amythest were still playing in the arcade, Sadie was now there with Lars, Sour Cream, Onion, Buck, Kiki, Lapis, and Paradot.
“Hey Mr. U! Where’s Steven?” Buck Dewey asked the older man, who was holding the box.
“Oh, he’s in the arcade, let me text him,” he said, putting the cake down pulling out his iPhone 5s from his pocket, and texting him. The blue iMessage bubble pops up. Steven read it and typed back. OK, I’ll be there now. he texted.
The half Gem ran with Amythest following behind him. “Hi guys!” he said cheerfully.
“Hey, Steven!” Sadie waved. Lars stood there, and Sadie elbowed him in the stomach. “Ow! What was that for?”
“Tell Steven Happy Birthday!”
Lars grumbled. “Happy Birthday, Steven…”
“Aren’t you like…. Ten?” he asked.
“He’s fifteen, Lars!” Sadie hissed.
“Okay, jeez! so-rry!” he said, Sadie smiled and handed a gift bag to Greg. “Thanks, guys,” he said, putting Lars' gift bag on the table as well. The young Gem Hydrid smiled at them, Sadie smiled and ruffled his hair. “Happy Birthday, little dude!”
“Happy Birthday, Steven! Paradot and I got you a gift,” she said, handing him the bag.
“Thanks, guys.” he smiled
Lars sighed and tried to smile. “Happy Birthday, Steven.” he sighed, wondering why he was here. And why did Sadie force him to go, he wasn’t friends with a… Tenth grader — or, fifth grader, in Lars’ opinion.
Then, Kiki, Buck, Sour Cream, and his little brother Onion walked in. Lars was about to scream when he saw The Cool Kids here.
“H-Hey guys, what are you doing at this lame kids' party?” Lars asked. Sadie glared at him.
Sour Cream stuffed his hands in his pockets and looked at Steven. “Hey, Steven asked us to come, he’s pretty awesome. Give him a chance.”
“Ugh, whatever…” he said, crossing his arms.
Steven walked up to the counter to get bowling shoes. He grabbed his shoes and put them on, he strapped the velcro to his shoes and then stood up. Sadie grabbed some bowling balls for them. Steven put everyone’s names on the screen.
“Hey, Pearl aren’t you playing with us?” Steven asked, putting his name on the board. “I am fine, Steven. Plus, I’m not wearing those… Disgusting bowing shoes. Everyone puts their feet in those.” she cringed. Amethyst rolled her eyes as She put on her bowling shoes, then she walked up to the screen to put her, Garnet’s Lapis’ and Paradot’s names in.
“Alright, we're all set, Sadie you're up first,” Steven told his friend. Sadie picked up her ball and rolled it down the lane. Steven looked as the pins crashed. Steven saw that she got a strike.
“Nice job, Sadie!” Steven said. Encouraging her. Sadie smiled and sat down, Lars went next.
Picking up his bowling ball after sticking his fingers into the three holes, he rolled it down the lane. His ball went to the side.
“Why?!” Lars said he got another chance, he got it but it was two pins. “You gotta be kidding me! Steven, did you rig this game?!” Lars asked picking the boy up by the shirt.
“Lars! put him down!” Sour Cream said,
“Put him down, dude!” Kiki told him, glaring at the taller boy. Lars sighed and put him down. “Sorry, Steven,” Kiki said. Steven smiled. “That’s alright! I know he was just kidding around!” the Half Gem said as he went next, Steven picked up his bowling ball and threw it, his friends cheered as he got a strike.
“Way to go, Steven!” Kiki said from the other lane, Steven blushed and walked over to his friends, Buck was up now. Kiki, Onion, Amethyst, and Garnet were on the other lane.
Kiki saw Garnet go. She got a strike as well. “Nice, Garnet!” Kiki said. They played two rounds before they had lunch.
Greg returned with pizzas in his hands, Steven grabbed a slice. So as his friends and Amethyst. He grabbed a slice and sat next to his son.
Amethyst smiled and put a hand on Steven’s shoulder. Steven’s friends all sat and talked, except Lars.
“This is awesome!” Paradot exclaimed as she saw her name up on the screen, Lapis and Paradot took two turns each while all of them were eating. Once they were done, Garnet pulled out the cake and she opened it, The fusion removed it from the box and Steven stared at it in awe with stars in his eyes.
The birthday cake is a very unique and creative design, with a green and white fondant cake as the main base. The cake features a large, multi-layered cake decorated with various characters from the Sonic The Hedgehog video game series, including Sonic, Shadow, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose. The characters were placed around the edges of the cake, giving it a whimsical and playful appearance.
Additionally, there are several smaller cakes placed throughout the arrangement, each one decorated with a different character. A small cupcake is also visible towards the bottom left corner of the cake. The cake stands on a dining table, surrounded by various items such as cups, bowls, and plastic bottles, creating a fun and festive atmosphere for the birthday celebration.
In the middle, in yellow fondant, it said ‘HAPPY 14th BIRTHDAY STEVEN’ Amythest had to get pushed out of the way by Pearl. “Amethyst! down! we have to sing Steven Happy Birthday!”
“Oh, right…” Amythest said. Greg pulled out his iPhone and pressed record.
“Happy birthday to you!”
“Happy birthday to you!”
“Happy Birthday Dear, Steven!”
“Happy birthday to you!”
“Happy Birthday, my handsome half-gem .” Pearl said hugging him and kissing his cheek.
“Ahhh! Gem coodies!” Steven rubbed his cheek trying to get Pearl’s spit off. Amethyst laughed.
“MY HANDSOME HALF GEM!” Amythest laughed even harder. Lars also laughed, Steven blushed and leaned onto his chair. Garnet put a comforting hand on his shoulder. Steven looked at her, he smiled, and Garnet rubbed his hair. Steven blew out the candles and everyone cheered.
“Let’s eat some cake!” Amethyst said. Greg smiled and cut a piece for Steven, everyone got some, except for Pearl and Garnet. Steven ate his cake, everyone was having a good time. Greg saw the pictures taken on his phone, he walked to Steven.
“Pearl, can you take a picture of me and Steven?” Greg asked. Pearl took his phone from her and took a picture of both of them, then. Everyone got into the picture and an employee took the group photo of them.
Steven’s family.

Home Decor in 2024. What’s Hot & What’s Not?
Tumblr media
Pink’s out. Peach is in.
Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2024 is soft and subtle “Peach Fuzz,” replacing last year’s vibrant “Viva Magenta.” Pantone is recognized globally as a leading source of color expertise.
“In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute™.
If you’re looking to revamp your space, consider PANTONE 13-1023 and its complementary colors: everything from creamy, brown and tan neutrals to shades of teal, lavender and mint green. Note: gray is not listed. For those who went wild with gray or greige tones during that trend, you might want to roll up your sleeves and buy a new paint roller.
What’s out?
Say goodbye to Barbiecore (think pink). What else is losing favor? Here’s a quick rundown of trends that seem to be going by the wayside in home decor:
Sliding barn doors (Let’s face it – they don’t even do a great job of blocking light, smells, and sounds.)
White-on-white kitchens
Extremes – whether that means bare minimalism or over-the-top Grand Millennial
Heavy industrial style
What’s in?
Back kitchens
AKA butler’s pantry or scullery, this separate space keeps secondary or backup items hidden from site, tidying up the more public area. Here you can house additional refrigeration and freezing, warming drawers, wine storage, lesser-used mechanical devices, formal entertaining dishes and cutlery, etc. Appliance garages have been around for a while, but they seem to be gaining popularity as another way to streamline kitchens.
Bespoke bedrooms and bathrooms
Behind the scenes, highly personalized spaces offer homeowners comfort and creative freedom. Feel free to layer these rooms with your favorite monogrammed fabrics, artwork, family photos, and heirlooms. Make it meaningful.
Casual luxury
It may sound like an oxymoron, but  luxury doesn’t have to mean formal. Rather than opulent and imposing, choose comfortable, lived-in furniture that is still beautiful and lavish.
Bold wall treatments
Add depth and personality to walls by treating them as large canvases. Incorporate wallpaper, paneling, 3D wall coverings, stone or wood features, decorative molding. This is a take on dopamine decor – which continues to be popular – creative touches that make you feel good when you walk into a room.
Separated spaces
Demolishing interior walls to create all-in-one living/working/playing areas is seeing a bit of a reversal. Delineating spaces by incorporating walls that still have good flow through the use of doorways and openings allows for rooms with purpose and intention.
Mixed metals
This may come as a relief. Chrome, brass, black, copper, bronze – all can be used when harmoniously paired. Trying to keep up with what’s in shouldn’t mean having to change out plumbing fixtures annually!
Mixed materials
Kitchen countertops don’t have to be one solid matchy-matchy mass. Add interest and dimension to this horizontal space. Consider a mix of materials for visual, tactile and utilitarian variety – natural wood with granite, or quartz with sleek stainless steel.
Outdoors in
Windows seem to be taking center stage – becoming bigger and bigger. The view outside is more of a focal point than an after-thought. Biophilic design is also a way to get the feeling of nature inside your dwelling by adding large indoor plants and natural wood and stone finishes.
Mud-laundry rooms
Combining a laundry with a mudroom is a space-efficient idea. Storage components can serve double-duty: hooks, cabinets, cubbies and drawers.
Sustainability
Cheap, mass-produced furniture is becoming increasingly unpopular. People are gravitating toward quality pieces that are higher end and/or repurposed for a lesser environmental footprint.
A word of caution
Before you revamp your space with all the latest trends, carefully consider which ones truly work for you. If you’re thinking about selling your home soon, reach out to me and let's talk about what changes will give you the biggest bang for your buck.

How to Apply Self-Adhesive Paper to Kitchen Countertops for a Quick, Affordable Update
When you walk into a kitchen, countertops are one of the first features to catch your eye. They influence the entire look of the space, adding a modern flair or natural texture. However, updating or replacing countertops can be a consuming and costly task. Enter, self-adhesive paper.
This affordable material is sold in rolls and features one decorative side and one highly adhesive side (much like an oversize sticker.) And if you're renting or trying to renovate on a budget, self-adhesive paper makes an ideal option.
Anika Gandhi, founder of the blog Anika's DIY Life, has taken on the project multiple times and says it cost her less than $50 to do her entire kitchen. (She purchased about three to four rolls.) Compared to installing leaf wallpaper , which can range anywhere from around $50 to $150 per square foot for installation alone (not including the cost of materials), self-adhesive paper is decidedly cost-effective. Plus, it takes much less time to apply. leaf wallpaper peel and stick says it took her about an afternoon from start to finish; working around the sink was the most tedious part.
Ready to flip removable wallpaper ? Here's everything you need to know about changing up your countertops with self-adhesive paper, including styles to consider, upkeep must-knows, and the low-down on durability.
How to Choose the Right Self-Adhesive Paper Style You can find nearly any style of countertop material in self-adhesive paper form, including natural stone patterns, like marble, as well as wood looks. If you're going for a contemporary kitchen, try out one of the latest interior trends, such as neutral colors, biophilic designs, or vintage patterns. Or keep it classic with a pattern that resembles quartz or cork.
Terrazzo, reminiscent of a Parisian café, is a great option for adding color and detail. It's also a favorite on Etsy. "It picked up maybe two or three years ago," says Samantha Santana, owner of shopSAMANTHASANTANA where she sells wallpaper and self-adhesive paper. "Checker prints have also been bubbling for a while, and I feel like they finally exploded in 2022."
To make your countertop a focal point, try Moroccan or geometric patterns for visual interest. Using abstract leaf wallpaper allows you to apply it less precisely, as you don't have to match up the sections of the paper exactly.
Another plus of using self-adhesive paper on your countertop is that you can easily keep up with trends in your kitchen since it's removable and affordable. In addition to Etsy, you can find the paper at any major retailer, including Target, Walmart, The Home Depot, and Amazon.
What to Know Before Applying Self-Adhesive Paper You'll want to start by measuring the sections of countertop where the paper fits without extra cutting. Don't worry if there are any small areas that won't be covered or if the paper doesn't line up perfectly everywhere—you can always cut a strip down to whatever measurement you need and use decor to cover any imperfections.
For unforeseen slip-ups or dilemmas, it's a good idea to buy an extra roll or two. "Just in tree wallpaper mess up something or miscalculate, especially with the cutouts," Anika advises. "You have to take into account the fact that you might need to cut some extra strips and things like that. So you definitely want to have at least one roll more than what you think you need."
Samantha says she always tells customers to be cautious when cutting as the material is slippery. As a general rule, take it slow. Also, note that paper can appear darker if you have a darker countertop. Keep this in mind as you choose the color and style.
How to Apply Self-Adhesive Paper to Your Countertops One of the best parts about working with self-adhesive paper is that it doesn't require many materials, and you probably already have most of them.
What You Need Measuring tape or ruler Rubbing alcohol (optional) Utility knife (like an X-Acto knife) Scissors Carpenter square, credit card, or silicone spatula Soap and sponge or cleaning wipes Step 1: Measure your countertops so you know how much self-adhesive paper to purchase. Make sure to check the dimensions of the roll you're buying.
Step 2: Clean your countertops with soap and water or cleaning wipes. Dry them with a paper towel or cloth. This is the most important step, Anika says. If there's a speck of dirt or dust, it could show under the paper, and any oils from kitchen ingredients or your skin could cause it to not stick as well. After cleaning, consider wiping the counter down with isopropyl or rubbing alcohol.
Step 3: Unroll the paper on your counter. Line tropical leaf wallpaper up so that they lay seamlessly, the pattern matches up (if applicable), and you can't see any of your real counters peeking through. Ignore any smaller sections that the paper doesn't cover for now.
Step 4: Peel and stick. Samantha and Anika suggest only peeling off an inch or so from a corner as a starting point. As you work, use one hand to peel and the other to get out the air bubbles. Use a credit card, carpenters square, or silicone spatula (a tip from one of Samantha's customers) to remove air bubbles, scraping from top to bottom. If you encounter any stubborn bubbles, use your knife or a pin to poke a tiny hole and move the air toward it so it can escape.
Step 5: Cut the paper and fold it under the edge of your counter. Because you won't see it, you don't have to worry about cutting in a straight line. Remember to take your time.
leaf wallpaper for walls : When going around curves, such as your kitchen sink, apply the paper over the edges and roughly cut with scissors. Trim the excess with your knife along the edge to get a seamless line.
Step 7: With any leftover sections, measure and use a ruler to cut your paper in a straight line. If you can, measure and line up the rolls so that these sections are in a concealed area, like a back corner that won't be as noticeable, or an area easily hidden with decor like cookbooks or pantry staples.
Cleaning Tips and Maintenance Self-adhesive paper is generally water-resistant, and it does well with regular wear and tear. Clean it with soap and water, avoiding any harsh chemicals or bleach. If large leaf wallpaper see any fraying or edges coming up, Samantha advises using a spray adhesive to keep it in place. However, most self-adhesive paper isn't heat-resistant, so avoid placing any hot pots or pans on the surface.
Anika used self-adhesive paper for one of her bathroom countertops, and when she removed it a year and a half later, it was still clean underneath. And it was a kid's bathroom, so "it got lots of splashing and residue and all that stuff on it."
"If you're really concerned, you can use clear silicone caulking around the sink," she says. "But it holds up really, really well."

https://printmyspace.com/shop/black-and-gold-tropical-palm-banana-leaf-wallpaper/ : Peel and stick. If leaf wallpaper peel and stick encounter any stubborn bubbles, use your knife or a pin to poke a tiny hole and move the air toward it so it can escape.
Step 5: Cut the paper and fold it under the edge of your counter. Because you won't see it, you don't have to worry about cutting in a straight line. Remember to take your time.
Step 6: When going around curves, such as your kitchen sink, apply the paper over the edges and roughly cut with scissors.
Clean tree wallpaper with soap and water, avoiding any harsh chemicals or bleach. If you see any fraying or edges coming up, Samantha advises using a spray adhesive to keep it in place.

Signing Off (Final Fantasy VII)
(( written for the @ff7ogzine - I am incredibly honored to share what was The Most Emotionally Taxing thing I've ever written. I have a lot of feels about the Sector 7 plate fall, even 25 years later, and I'm glad I was able to tell the story of those who were impacted the most: the NPCs. Please enjoy this, but also bring tissues. We all know what happens, but trust me when I say it's A Lot ))
“And cut! Roll commercials!”
“Five-minute break, everyone. Good work.”
The static faded in Dale’s earpiece, but his smile remained. Only an hour into the evening news and his producer was serving praise like her homemade cookies from last holiday’s potluck. Claudia must be in a good mood, he mused. As makeup artists scurried over to freshen his features, Dale surveyed the studio that accommodated the Sector 7 Local News.
Muted orange and beige hues engulfed the backdrop. The shag carpet and curling wallpaper begged for renovations, but exuded its own charm. Both ended outside the camera’s frame and surrendered to metal and concrete. Second-hand equipment—the best the slums offered on a budget—occupied the otherwise barren studio: quartz lights, broadcast cameras, mixing consoles, reference monitors, and more. All invisible to the viewers at home, but a wise investment to maintain above-average production quality and an even better crew.
Techs maneuvered faders and control modules, their eyes glued to screens revealing new footage for later stories. Writers typed faster than he could ramble. Amidst the buzz of last-minute information and ideas, Claudia prowled from afar with a pleased, yet slight smile.
“Hey!” Verna leaned in and tapped Dale’s forearm. That wide grin, complete with straight white teeth, was cemented into his coanchor’s face, along with a thick layer of foundation. “Got any plans this weekend?”
Dale tuned out the banter in his earpiece—the audio engineers bragging about attending Loveless again. “Same old, same old. Dinner with my folks, rent a new release. Taking it easy, regardless.”
“Well, aren’t you just a source of entertainment,” Verna drawled.

“I’m pretty sure this place is haunted. Or, at the very least, your pipes are.” Jason crawled out from underneath her kitchen sink and wiped his hands on his already stained jeans. He pushed his hair out of his eyes and stood up. “This is the second time I’ve been over this week, you know.”
Raven flushed as she watched Jason tilt his head back and look up at the ceiling. His lips pursed in silent contemplation before he looked back at her, pointing up at a suspicious discoloring on the ceiling. “Water stain or blood stain?”
“Ha ha. You’re so very funny.” Raven pushed her hair out of her eyes, feeling a bead of sweat slip down her neck. Her eyes flicked to the thermostat, seeing the needle inch a few degrees higher. Not that she would ever admit it to Jason, but she felt like an absolute idiot buying this house. Of course she knew it was going to be work, she just didn’t realize how much work. And now they were in the middle of an oppressive heat wave without air conditioning and no cross-breeze. Her eyes flicked down Jason’s abs as he lifted the hem of his shirt and wiped the sweat off his forehead.
That wasn’t helping.
"I talked with the HVAC crew I usually work with, and with this heatwave we're going to be waiting about a month before we can get someone in here. I’ve got a couple of box fans I can bring in. I’ll build a little fan-fort around your bed so I don’t come over here and find you passed out from heat stroke." Jason flipped on the faucet and let the water run for a few seconds. "Trap is cleared for you." He paused and filled up two cheap plastic cups with water, handing one to Raven. "Why did you buy this money pit, Rae?"
"It needed love. And it’s been here forever, and I couldn’t bear to see it disappear." She didn't want to tell him that she'd been in love with the house since they were kids. Ever since they’d snuck out in sixth grade, light off fireworks in the backyard, and he’d given her her first kiss on the dilapidated porch as they stared at the sky above them. Of course that had been before his accident - before his memories had gotten all jumbled, and he had to re-learn all his relationships and start making new memories. Raven hadn’t wanted to tell him about that. It felt oddly private, and besides, he had other girls he was interested in now. Their childhood tryst wasn’t important anymore. She just… she needed to remember that.
"It needs a demo crew." He snorted. "I mean, sure, the bones are good, but… Rae. You're going to find yourself in a world of hurt. Your inheritance from your father couldn't be that big."
Bigger than she expected, actually. She had been surprised that her father had left her anything. She hadn't seen him in more than twenty years, and had honestly moved on with her life. When his lawyer contacted her, Raven wasn't sure what she felt. Relief, mostly. His dark shadow wasn’t looming over her anymore, and she could take his blood money and do something constructive with it - like breathe life back into a home that had been her one reprieve when she was younger.
"I'm going to make it my own, you know.” She tried to keep her voice calm, but there was an odd waver in it. “I'm thinking stainless steel countertops. Stainless backsplash. Big sink and stove."
Jason gave a low whistle and he tilted his head towards her, lifting an eyebrow. "Really?"
"I like the look."
"Like it’s a middle school cafeteria?”
Raven pursed her lips, turning away from him. "I have a vision."
"Your vision sucks. Besides, that’s a real fancy kitchen for a girl that burns frozen waffles." He grinned at her and finished his water before picking up his tool box. "You need a better vision. I'm thinking cherry cabinets and white quartz."
Raven made a face. "No."
"You should trust me. Who’s the one who does this for a living? Ah. Right. Me." He walked past her and into what would eventually be the dining room, but was currently swallowed by boxes and supplies. Jason looked around and sighed, his eyes flicking to the wallpaper from the 60’s that was peeling. “I can’t believe you’re living here while all this is going on. Shouldn’t you stay with Karen or Kori. Or, hell, even Dick?”
“I’m fine.” Raven shrugged. “It’s not like I can’t take care of myself.”
“Yeah, I know.” Jason rubbed the back of his neck, leaving a streak of grease behind. He glanced away and gave a one-shouldered shrug. “It’s just… it’s a big, old house. And you’re alone a lot. I worry about you.”
“You shouldn’t.” Raven could feel her heart picking up speed in her chest, but that was just because it was hot. It couldn’t be because he was thinking about her. It wasn’t. She just had to keep telling herself that. He’d moved on. He didn’t remember their time together anymore. She took another gulp of the water in her hands and looked up at the ceiling to the flickering chandelier. “It’s fine. I’ve got plans for this place, and I am fully capable of fending for myself.”
“Yeah? But things are better when you’ve got people around you.” Jason shrugged and he rubbed the back of his neck, glancing around the room. “I’ve got an appointment I need to keep, but I’ll be back to look at that light later this evening. And we should make a plan to pick out new kitchen appliances for you sometime. You’re gonna need more than that college-dorm fridge eventually.”
“What are we redecorating this place together?”
He grinned at her, his face lighting up. “With as much work as I’ve been putting into it, I own like half this house now.”
Raven rolled her eyes. “Well, you should just move in then.”
“Maybe I will.” His voice sounded playful, but there was something teasing in the back and he met her eyes with a strange look that she couldn’t place. “I could use a cute roommate, and Tripod wouldn’t mind the company. He likes you.”
Raven shook her head, trying to ignore the way his words settled over her. She felt like her heart was about to beat right out of her chest, sputtering and shaking as she turned his teasing over in her mind. He couldn’t be serious. There was no way. Absolutely no way. He didn’t… he didn’t like her like that. She took another drink of water and sighed. “I still can’t believe you named your dog Tripod.”
“You named your cat Picasso because she’s got a wonky face, Rae. Sticks and stones.” He grinned and made his way to the front door. “I’ll be back later. And this time I’ll bring beer.”
“Okay, okay. Pick out what you want for dinner.” She handed him a stack of take out menus. “I’ll make sure it’s here before you.”
“You’re too good to me.”
Before Raven could even question what was happening, Jason leaned down and placed a soft kiss on the swell of her cheek. Her heart sputtered wildly in her chest, and she looked up at him, but Jason wasn’t making eye-contact with her. Instead he opened the door and stepped onto the front porch, carefully avoiding the boards he knew were rotten. Her stomach twisted and turned and she shivered as she watched him move toward his work truck, acting as if… as if nothing had just happened.
“I’ll be back in a few hours, Rae. See you soon.”
She nodded and watched his truck take off, unsure of what she was supposed to feel.
What… what just happened?

Pairing: clairvoyant! Haechan x witch! reader
Summary: neo coven tech masterlist | Adlicio Latin: verb, translation: to lure or bait
Warnings: fem reader, abuse, drugging, and violence
Words: 1.3k
Author: collaboration
~
The heavy air around him helped to calm his always cloudy head. With each step he could hear the whispered from the cobblestones under his feet. They each seemed to hum with a weighted spirit of their own.
The starland district felt like walking through a dollhouse neighborhood.
The people there lived with glass faces and plastic bodies, funny colored houses that seemed too empty to be real. Liberty street felt quiet, save the eerie chime of cathedral bells, even the people passing by seemed to lower into a whisper.
Whether the atmosphere drowned all other noise or they were simply too afraid to awaken the old souls that watched from behind heavy oak doors and bolted glass windows, he didn’t really care.
Between the south historic district and the east side - far too close to that ever so coveted cathedral, if you were ever to ask them - you would find a corner shop with purple stained glass French doors.
The sign hung slightly crooked on an iron bracket which simply read "psychic" in fading calligraphy-style font. The neon buzzed and hummed, blinking and skipping with disjointed energy.
The inside was almost... exactly what you would expect.
Deep gemstone tones, dark crimson, red velvets, and faded amethyst wallpaper. The lobby had a distinct smell of lavender, as though someone had been trying to drown themselves in a peaceful, dreamless sleep. The smell slipped down Haechan’s nose and constructed his lungs.
Leading into the back hall was a series of drapery, usually tucked up with various colored ropes and pinned in neat folds to each side of the archway. A variety of stones were strung up on the ropes, clear quartz and onyx glinted in the candle light.
There are only a few reasons why anyone would turn to a psychic, a well dressed con woman in the eyes of the public, chime-riddled shawls and fluttering hand movements over decorative glass.
You were either looking for a very specific answer - a reassurance, grappling for a reason- any reason to delude yourself further into this or that fantasies.
Or you were truly desperate.
Haechans fingers glide across the smooth exterior of the obsidian scrying bowl between his palms, eyes haphazardly skimming the surface of the ink concoction within. He blinked, odd. The ink lay still in the bowl, yet he saw nothing but the black painted reflection of his own tired eyes staring back at him.
Though his breath had settled into the familiar deep, rhythmic pattern of his practice, his mind still wandered beyond the exercise at hand, now that the silence left room for it. For the first time since he could remember, Haechan struggled to pull a vision out from the press of his consciousness.
~
He'd come to the little corner shop as many others. Beaten, broken down soul screaming for relief, and you. You were more than happy to provide, just as you had done for the countless others.
At the time, Haechan thought little of the capability it would take to roll his power away like water off the feather of a pond duck.
He was told many fantastical stories of immortal eldritch priestesses and forgotten eldritch gods.
You fit none of them.
Perhaps such ghost stories had a hard time containing you, putting you in simple terms, pushing you into clipped syllables and careful sagas would only cut away some winding complexity that slipped even past his fingers.
You were simply, you.
All coy smiles and ripped jeans.
There was an air of finality to the way you spoke, and a sense of ease to the way you danced across a room.
You were mesmerizing, in every way a woman could be.
It enchanted Haechan, your body looked hardly a year older than his own, but your power showed time beyond any he could comprehend.
Perhap, if he had been wiser, he would have taken those small flashes behind your eyes as you welcomed him, as a warning.
~
A deep sigh parted the pursing of his lips, the bowl clattering down to the desk below. He had at first been thankful for the halt in the ever pounding in his skull and the constant noise in his ears. However, now that the silence had settled deep into his bones, he started to understand.
His time here flashed like Polaroid snapshots of peace. Manufactured happiness all wrapped up in a neat little bow.
There was a price to everything, every kind smile, every outreached hand had a hidden brand that would eventually come back like a hand wrapped around his throat and a hot iron to singe his flesh.
He was so consumed with the thought of your gifts, of the releaf he found in simply being at your side, he never once stopped to ask himself what you would take in return.
It'd been weeks since he'd last spoken to his brothers - too much of anyone outside the shop, really.
There was a gradual sense of disconnect from the outside world, only fueled by honeyed words and cautious stares.
Looking back he wondered, how deep had you gone into his mind to have him believe this was all only natural?
~
Minutes bled into hours.
His limbs felt like gelatin, his blood pounded in his ears.
Claustrophobia left him choking, heaving for air as he clawed weakly at the splintered ridges of the doorframe.
The drugs had began to wane from his system, leaving him weak but now jolting with faint memories of what fear might have felt like.
Haechan wasn't sure how long he was left in the closet, only that he emerged like a baptism through fire. Painful, and all at once.
The door was flung open, leaving his body crumpled at the heels of a blurred figure.
Your head tilted, pointed toe heel nudging at the curve of his cheekbone as his eyes rolled around in his skull, trying desperately to accumulate back to real life.
"Oh, you poor kid." You cooed in mock pity. "That sure did a number on you, huh?"
Arms still jolting with muscle spasms, he managed to push himself up onto his elbows, body twisting to bend his forehead against the cherry wood floor.
A manicured hand came to stroke long motions down his back, what would normally be a soothing assurance now felt like a cold nail dragging down the length of his spine.
"You okay there, puppy?" You frowned. "Need a minute?"
Haechan was sent to the floor in a snap, the bitter sound echoed across the room that now seemed too hollow for it's own good. His eyes shut. He placed his forehead against the floor, trying to will the foundation to swallow him whole.
You laughed a plastic, artificial giggle.
"You stupid, stupid fucking dog."
This wasn’t you, and yet it was. That toxic hiss was yours. You were a snake, poison dripped off those pretty little fangs hidden behind perfect lipstick and bright smiles.
"You want to see so badly?" the hum fell from your lips. You reached for him and he didn't struggle, letting you pull him up to his knees by his hair.
"Then see. Look at what you've done." The pad of your thumb pressed against the crown of his forehead and all at once,
He could feel the water, pressing down on every inch of his body - no, not his. The rusted pipe sticking out of the bottom of his - no, not his abdomen..no, no, no, no.
Pressed against the ground, the taser sending jolts of pain through his body - no, not his.
The woman in the wheelchair screamed.
The feeling of his head bouncing against the tile.
The feeling of the splintered bat between his fingertips.
The feeling of fire licking at his cheeks.
His fault.
His fault.
His fault.
No, not his.
Yours.
His eyes shot open, face pressed against your stomach as you chuckled like static over the radio.
He coiled, then lurched to his feet. One hand pressed against your forehead, the other wrapped around your throat.
You'd forgotten how powerful Haechan truly was, the full extent of his gifts you’d never bothered to learn. His magic pressed against yours, crawling through every pore, his mind swallowed you whole.
You died before you even hit the wall.

CHAPTER 20: Reminisce
Tumblr media
A light breeze woke up Rose Quartz. She sat upright from her uncomfortable slumber position in the back of the car, blinking at the open window. The breeze coming in was warm, the sun was shining, and the car radio was quietly playing music.
Rose found that her headache had subsided. “What time is it?” she asked Marigold, who was driving.
Tumblr media
"Four. Ran into some traffic. Nearly there." Marigold turned the music, Abba, off. "How's your head?"
Rose rubbed her temples. “Much better, actually. I needed that nap.” She stretched; her fingers met with a leathery texture. “Hey, is this a convertible? Do you want to open the roof?”
"Its overrated, but sure." Marigold rolled her eyes and pressed a button on the front panel of the car, and after a series of clicks and whirrs, it began to pull back.
Rose leant back, enjoying the breeze.
An awkward silence settled between them.
“Do you wanna stop somewhere? I’m getting kind of hungry.” Unsurprising, since she had barely managed to eat anything in the morning. Also, it would give her an excuse to actually get into the front seat.
Marigold threw her phone in the back seat. "The passcode is a diamond shape, from left to right. Feel free to look for a location nearby."
Rose stared at the phone, then at Marigold. “Uh... are you sure? I could get my phone out of my... where’s my bag?”
"Front seat, foot area. I'd chuck it to you but I've got both eyes on the road." Marigold blushed as she looked in the rear view mirror. "You can feel free to reach for it but otherwise I'd suggest waiting until I can pull over and you can move to join me in the front."
Rose gave a deep sigh, then gingerly took Marigold’s phone. It took her a few tries to unlock it.
She couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the cheesy wallpaper – “live, laugh, love” in yellow – but quickly navigated to maps.
“Ugh. No signal. We’re in the middle of nowhere, aren’t we?”
"It would appear so." Marigold looked over the rolling fields around them- valleys dyed purple by the rows of grapes they grew, the road in front of them snaking and twisting into the distance. "Azure said I'd get internet access here, but we might need to wait until we get back into civilisation. Would you like me to pull over so you can jump in the front?"
“Please,” Rose admitted, “I don’t particularly want to feel like I’m in a taxi.”
"Mhm. Perhaps you could take over driving." Marigold carefully drove the car to the side of the road. "You have a licence, correct?"
“Yeah, sure.” Rose waited until Marigold stopped and got out of the car. “Mhm, feels nice to stretch my legs. Do you know how far away we are?”
"The GPS said about two hours before the signal cut out." Marigold clicked her back, stretching it, as she got it out and walked to the other door. "I think I've missed a backroad or two but this direction should get us there."
“Alright. You’re in charge of navigation, then.” Rose leaned against the car and sighed.
A moment passed and Rose found that it was difficult to look at Marigold. Her chest felt strained.
“I’m... sorry about last night,” she said softly. “Thank you for looking after me. You didn’t have to do that.”
Marigold softened a little at the apology. "You're forgiven, Rose. Just try not to do it again... at least in a manner that causes such a spectacle of yourself."
She then paused and signed into her hands. "I can't even really judge you for that, even if I wanted to. I've been there. If anything, it was a shock to the system to almost come face to face with a younger self."
Rose gave a wry smile. “I think Aurora mentioned you had a history with alcoholism. I’m sorry if I brought up unpleasant memories.”
"No, no. I've... recently learnt it's better to let these things out." Marigold mocked a shudder. "What a concept!"
Rose sighed. “I suppose that’s probably something I have to learn as well,” she said.
Dark thoughts from the previous night returned. She could only remember flashes of what had happened, and everything was obscured in a dark haze of anger, desperation, grief. Those feelings were still there, but more muted now.
“What sort of relationship did you have with Roxy?” she found herself asking.
"Oh?" Marigold looked up. It was a fair question. "I've been thinking about that a lot since you last brought it up. Your drunken escapade last night somewhat stirred one of the times we spent time together. She and I... briefly used to get drinks together. After Claire's passing."
“Oh? Did something happen back then?”
"I mean... I got blackout drunk once." Marigold chuckled. "In public. I can't imagine what a fool I must've made of myself."
Rose frowned. “She took me drinking a few times as well. Let me guess, she encouraged you to keep drinking?”
Marigold blinked and then returned the frown. "Uhm... Yes? How did you... Oh."
“She probably did it to a lot of people.” Rose’s voice sounded bitter. “Were you just friends at the time?”
"We never went beyond that." Marigold gave a nervous laugh. "It always did strike me quite fishy how she always kept her composure the morning after."
“Did she now.” Rose got back in the car, on the driver’s seat. “Shall we keep going?”
"...Yes?" Marigold swallowed, suddenly uneasy. But she nodded regardless. "I can't wait to get to our final stop."
Rose started the car. The hum of the engine drowned out her thoughts for just a moment. “Get in, then. Do we know what we’re doing when we get there?”
"Something about gadgets, according to Azure. We're meeting with one of her people and then we start the search tomorrow."
  Tomorrow.
Rose swallowed. “Do you think we’ll find her quickly?”
"If the information Azure has is correct, then perhaps. I hope so, anyway. I'd love to return to school before the year is over."
 Rose shot her a look.
“I envy you if that’s your main worry,” she said. “Aren’t you anxious about Roxy?”
"I don't share the trauma you associate with her." Marigold shrugged, looking away. "She's still... a friend to me, in a way. Even if she's done horrible things. I want to see her make it out of this safely."
Rose glanced over at her once again, suspicious.
“Yeah, no, I don’t care if she gets killed. She deserves it.”
"Alright." Marigold seemed oddly detached. "Just don't be the one to kill her."
Tumblr media
Rose drove in silence for a while, not feeling the need to answer. She felt slightly sick again, but just focused on the road.
“You must be just about the only person who didn’t get abused by her,” she then said softly. “Unless there’s something I don’t know about.”
Marigold looked down; her lips parted for a brief second and then closed.
She shook her head. "No. She didn't do anything to me. I mean... she tried to tarnish Claire a few times, which got on my nerves, but she had a lot of behavioural issues, so I just let it slip. Perhaps we all just babied her too much."
Rose didn't reply immediately, not sure what to say.
She ended up fixating on a detail. "Who's Claire, then? I feel like I've heard that name before."
"A person I used to look up to." Marigold's voice sounded ancient, wistful. "My family."
"And Roxy knew her as well," Rose said. "What happened to her?"
 "She passed away. Cancer."
“Oh. I’m sorry to hear that.” Rose felt her heart clench. “I know what it’s like to lose family to cancer. My dad died five years ago.”
"It's painful. At least we can be there for our families when it happens, right?"
Rose clenched her teeth, didn’t answer straight away.
When she did, she sounded choked up. “I couldn’t be there for him.”
 Marigold bit her lip. Oops.
"Wasn't that around the same time you were dealing with Roxy?"
Rose let out a short, pained laugh. "Yeah," she said. "And that's definitely not just a funny coincidence."
"Oh? Care to... tell me more? If it's not too much." Marigold felt like she was walking on thinner and thinner ice.
"Oh, it's not a big deal." Rose's voice betrayed that it was, in fact, kind of a big deal. "She just manipulated and guilt tripped me anytime I wanted to go see him. Said I was being a bad partner, that I should spend more time with her. Never mind that my dad was literally dying of cancer. I saw him twice. Twice in six months, and she acted like I'd done the worst thing in the world by doing that."
"Oh." Marigold looked distant for a bit, rubbing at the side of her head. "I mean... Your accounts. They spoke enough. But it's odd because now hearing you say it and really thinking about it? Yes, that's exactly the sort of thing she would do."
Rose grimaced. "And I thought it was normal, because she was the first proper long-term relationship I had. I thought it was normal to constantly feel guilty in your relationship. I thought it was normal to go out of town for your dad's funeral and then come back to your partner not speaking to you for over a week. Over a week, and she'd isolated me enough by that point that I had no one else to talk to. Nobody to help me through my grief. And I thought it was normal."
Marigold's mouth felt dry. An uneasy knot in her stomach.
She felt like she had to reply, but wasn't in the right mindset to formulate anything.
The silence settled for a while. Rose felt like she'd said too much.
She sighed. "I take it that you at least got to look after your Claire before she died."
Her voice wasn't bitter; well, not very. She just sounded tired and sad.
"Yes. I was able to be her live in carer. She seemed to distance away from her immediate family at that point. I couldn't ever quite tell why."
"Didn't you say she was your family as well? ... or was it something else?"
"Yes. My very, very distant relative. She looked after me when I was younger and I returned the favour."
"I see." Rose stared ahead, keeping her eyes on the road.
Suddenly, her phone pinged. "Oh hey, it looks like we're nearing civilisation again. Can you check how far it is from here?"
Marigold blinked. Either time had accelerated or Rose being awake had made it go much faster. "Goodness! Looks like we've nearly made it. I think this is west of the town. We want to get to the eastern area."
"Alright. Can you configure the SatNav?" Rose kept a lookout for any signs as to where they were going. A few side streets and houses indicated that they were indeed getting close to a town.
"Alright. I'll do my best." Marigold picked it up and fiddled with it. "Truth be told, I'm actually a little bit of a technophobe, I think."
"Oh. Right. Yeah, you made me set it up earlier." Rose's memories from the morning were hazy, clouded by hungover pain and sickness. "We'll figure it out. If all else fails we'll stop somewhere and I'll set it up again."
"Alright. As long as you're sure." Marigold offered a tiny smile. "I suppose you're going to learn an awful lot about me through this fiasco."
"Well, you saw me yesterday more drunk than I've been in years so I guess it's mutual. We're stuck in this together now whether we like it or not. And honestly, so far - it could be worse." Rose returned the small smile.
Marigold's cheeks tinted as she glanced away. But her smile didn't fade. "I do suppose it could. I am sorry if... it's hurting you to pursue her in this way. I'm beginning to realise just how thoughtless it was of us to make you have to make the choice to go so fast."
"It's okay. It can't be helped, it was a decision that needed to be made quickly. I doubt I would've found it any easier if I'd had more time." Rose sighed. "And it's going to bring up old trauma either way."
"I suppose so." Marigold found herself preoccupied by watching rustic houses speed by outside the car window. The car had begun to bump on the ridges of cobbles. The town looked like a painting.
She wondered if someone as cruel as Roxy could really reside in such a beautiful place.
Rose slowed down the car. “Right, I’m not too sure where to go from here.” She pulled up once the street showed some kind of parking spaces and turned off the engine. “Let’s have a look at this SatNav.”
"There you are." Marigold passed it over, taking in the surroundings. Even the air here felt different. She found it a little suffocating; or was it the growing anxiety?
She tried to snap herself out of it. She didn't get anxiety.
It didn't stop her from looking at a window of a nearby building and wondering what kind of building Marina had been shot in.
Don't be morbid.
Rose fussed with the SatNav for a while. “It’s calculating the route,” she then said, fastening it to the holder. “Huh. Pretty out here, isn’t it?”
"Yes," Marigold swallowed drily. "I'm just taking it in. I hope the place we're staying in is nice, too."
“I’m sure it is. Azure wouldn’t have us stay in some rundown hut.”
The SatNav beeped: it had found the route. “Oh, it’s really close, just a few minutes!” Rose said, starting the engine again.
Marigold smiled. The news somewhat lit a little excitement in her belly. "Apparently we're meeting someone to get some things from Azure. She said she had to get some things approved."
Rose drove, following the instructions. "Ah, we're getting some handy gadgets, huh?" she said. "I kind of wish I hadn't drunk so much last night, I still don't feel too great."
"I can only imagine." Marigold gave a small chuckle. "There should be some water and aspirin in my handbag."
"Thanks. I'll have some when we get there." Rose smiled wryly. "I should really find better ways of coping with my feelings."
"It looked like it's not your usual coping mechanism. No casual drinker goes around mixing that many spirits."
"I do." Rose gave a short laugh. "But only when I'm feeling really awful."
 "That much? Usually?"
"Well, I suppose it's not everyday that you learn just how much your ex was cheating on you," Rose said. "I mean - she was poly, and cheating on me with Azure and god knows who else, all while telling me I wasn't allowed to see other people because I was supposed to be loyal to her. That's fucked up. It fucked me up. It still does."
"I can imagine. It just was unfair." Marigold sighed. "Do you think she was insecure that you'd leave her if you saw what a healthier relationship was like?"
“Probably. But I don’t really understand... if that’s the case, why was she with me in the first place?” Rose sighed. “Oh, it looks like we’re here.”
She pulled into the car park of a small but fancy-looking hotel.
"Oh, Azure just seems to be showing off now. Look at it!" Marigold spied the rows of planted roses outside, blending into the cottagelike building. "I wish I knew how to draw. I could sit here for hours."
"Well, I don't know if we have hours," Rose said. "Do you know when Azure's... um, operatives are going to meet us?"
"Around six." Marigold checked her wristwatch. 3. "We've got a few hours to unpack and unwind."
“Oh, I see. I suppose we do have some time.” Rose killed the engine and got out of the car. “I might nap. Oh... and please don’t let me near alcohol again.”
"I'll do my best. I mean, I did try yesterday."
