Young Zee: The Definitive Planet Ill Interview, Pt. 1
By TJ Love
Hip-Hop is gauged by new metrics, which have displaced the scales of the past. Some would argue that the art of emceeing has fallen by the wayside; pushed overboard with no respect. But there are those who can still pay like they weigh no matter how the times have changed. Dewayne Battle, pka Young Zee, has left an indiscriminate trail of chewed up rappers and blazed mics since he wasβ¦
Outkastβs Big Boi, EDM artist Zedd, U.K. band Nothing But Thieves, Norwegian artist Aurora, rapper Hanumankind, guitarist-composer Cory Wong will perform in Mumbai on March 8 and 9, 2025

American punk-rock heroes Green Day, pop artist Shawn Mendes, U.K. hitmakers Glass Animals and singer-songwriter Louis Tomlinson are among top-billed acts making their India debut at Lollapalooza India 2025 in Mumbai, between March 8 and 9.
The lineup for the third edition of Lollapalooza India also includes rap veteran Big Boi from Outkast, U.K. band Nothing But Thieves, Norwegian pop artist Aurora, electronic artists like Zedd, John Summit and Alok, American guitarist-composer Cory Wong (known for his work with acts like Vulfpeck), breakout rapper Hanumankind (also our latest cover star), South Korean indie rock band Wave To Earth and rising pop artists Isabel LaRosa and more. Folk-indie singer-songwriter duo Lullanas β comprising Indian-origin siblings β will also make their India debut at Lollapalooza India 2025.
More Indian artists adding heft to the lineup include singer-songwriter Dot., rappers Raftaar and KR$NA, Punjabi artist Talwiinder, sitarist and fusion artist Niladri Kumar, pop artist Lisa Mishra, rock artist Raman Negi, Ahmedabad rap favorite Dhanji, producer Spryk, pianist-composer Sahil Vasudeva, DJ-producer Anushka, multi-instrumentalist-producer Sid Vashi, singer-songwriter Raghav Meattle and indie multi-instrumentalist/producer Sudan.
The announcement in September makes for meme-friendly news for Green Day, known for songs like βWake Me Up When September Ends.β The band announced their India debut on Instagram and said, βAnother first for us!! India, youβve been calling our nameβ¦ and itβs finally time to answer. Weβll see you in Mumbai next March for @LollaIndia.β The trio comprising Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool released their most recent album Saviors in 2024 and will likely dig into all-time hits like βGood Riddance (Time Of Your Life),β βAmerican Idiot,β βBoulevard of Broken Dreamsβ and more. Shawn Mendes, known for hits βIn My Blood,β βTreat You Betterβ and new single βWhy Why Why,β returns to the live stage after more than two years on his current tour, which includes Lollapalooza India.
Louis Tomlinson, who has a big following in India following his time with pop group One Direction, will also make a long-awaited India debut. Fellow Brits Glass Animals are a big draw on the back of releasing their new album I Love You So F***ing Much in July, but primarily due to their 2020 hit βHeat Waves,β which was the seventh-most streamed song in India on Spotify in 2022.
Glass Animals founder Dave Bayley β who visited India as a 16-year-old β told Rolling Stone India in 2020, βThank you for the support, I hope you are staying safe and healthy. We canβt wait to come and visit.β
In a wholly new strategy, Lollapalooza Indiaβs 2025 lineup is out six months in advance of the multi-genre festival taking place in March. BookMyShow Live also took a similar approach while announcing the lineup for their festival Bandland, which is taking place on Nov. 23 and 24 in Bengaluru.
More KR --> ENG phrases/idioms that can't be translated by MTL
Hangul: longshoe, longcheue
Direct translation: the long choux looked delicious.
Localised translation: The eclair looked delicious.
The nuance/authorβs intent lost here, is that the author name dropped herself in the series. Eclair-nimβs nickname is of the dessert βEclairβ which can be described as a long choux pastry.
MTL: You're part of my circle (doesn't specify shape or group)
Direct translation: Youβre part of my circle (shape).
Localised translation: Youβre part of my world
See my previous post on the nuance/authorβs intent, but basically a direct translation would not register that the circle doesnβt mean a group, but rather of a shape -> a circle β> round/sphere β> world. The nuance is that Rupert is admitting that Lari is part of his world now, and not just recognizing sheβs his ally.
Direct translation: Occasionally, he would eat honey chestnuts, but that was nowhere near violent by his standards.
Actual meaning: Honey chestnut means to "lightly strike someone's head".
The nuance: Occasionally, he would bop (Lari) on the head as a 'punishment' when she defied him, and both him and Lari don't actually consider it an actual punishment.
Direct translation: I donβt know what kind of stone you rolled in from, but I wonβt let you interfere with my romance with Lehan.
Actual meaning: Itβs a Korean idiom that not only is an idiom, but has multiple different meanings depending on the context., but one of them meant βi donβt know why youβre so confidentβ, and the other is βI donβt care who you are/where youβre from/what youβll doβ.
The nuance: In the end, given the context and nuances, the localized translation would be βI donβt know where you get your confidence, but I donβt care who you are or what you plan to do, I wonβt let you interfere with my romance with Lehan.
Direct translation: I would remember a raw gem (Madame Arve). Better translation: I would remember an unpolished gem (Madam Arve). Initially one would think the βraw gemβ is the ton of jewels Rupert paid her to make Lari look nice, but the context is that Madame Arve sees Lari as the perfect blank canvas model to doll up and promote her designs. Essentially, Lariβs hidden, untapped beautify. If you also recall, Lariβs also been called a βjewel/gemβ two other times in the series: by her father, and LeMille. Because sheβs worth so much more than she appears at first glance.
Direct translation: Rupert showed no blood or tears at Eva's death.
Actual meaning: "no blood or tears" means merciless
The nuance: Lari explains that because Rupert was so expressionless at Eva's death during the public funeral, some argued that he's a cruel, merciless person because of his lack of tears/response. This contrasts to the start of the series, where she called him a complete merciless tyrant, but now she understands he just has overwhelming indifference because to him, Eva had died many many years ago
Direct translation: Nelly says she has a light mouth
Actual meaning: "light mouth" means someone who can't hold a secret/will gossip ASAP
The nuance: Lari can tell right away that Nelly is a gossip, and even says she's a "heavy" mouth = can't hold a secret at all lol
Direct translation: Honey dripping from one's eyes
Actual meaning: Used when someone is looking at another lovingly
The Nuance: Rupelali lol
Direct translation: Sprinkle dirt on him (his eyes)
Actual meaning: Not an idiom, but a KR custom: During a funeral, dirt is sprinkled on the coffin as a way to "complete" the life cycle and provide closure.
The nuance: After the Count betrays Lari AGAIN, and Lari is clear she is no longer of House Belois and chooses to be with Rupert, Rupert is serious when he tells her to sprinkle dirt on trash dad, who is passed out on the floor cuz Lari attacked him. This means that by doing so, Lari is FINALLY letting go of the shackles that House Belois placed on her, and getting the closure she needed against her father
Direct translation: thatβs my ho (yes that's it, that's what MTL gives you when look it up)
Actual meaning: this is actually an onomatopoeia? an action of blowing on a wound on kids to make them stop crying.
The nuance: During a flirting session, Lari was a little rough and scratched Rupert. She's apologetic and blows on his wound to soothe him, but he's like "that's it?" cuz he was hoping for her to apologize with a (passionate) kiss. ^^;

Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter. Her discography spans multiple genres, and her vivid songwritingβoften inspired by her personal lifeβhas received critical praise and wide media coverage. Born in West Reading, Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville at age 14 to become a country artist. She signed a songwriting deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in 2004 and a recording contract with Big Machine Records in 2005. Her 2006 self-titled debut album made her the first female country singer to write or co-write a U.S. platinum-certified album entirely.
Swift's next albums, Fearless (2008) and Speak Now (2010), explored country pop. The former's "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me" were the first country songs to top the U.S. pop and all-genre airplay charts, respectively. She experimented with rock and electronic styles on Red (2012), which featured her first Billboard Hot 100 number-one song, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", and eschewed her country image in her synth-pop album, 1989 (2014), supported by chart-topping songs "Shake It Off", "Blank Space", and "Bad Blood". Media scrutiny inspired the urban-flavored Reputation (2017) and its number-one single "Look What You Made Me Do".
Exiting Big Machine, Swift signed with Republic Records in 2018 and released her seventh studio album, Lover (2019), followed by the autobiographical documentary Miss Americana (2020). She ventured into indie folk and alternative rock in her 2020 albums Folklore and Evermore, whose singles "Cardigan" and "Willow" topped the Hot 100. Swift began re-recording her first six albums after a dispute over their masters, re-releasing two in 2021βFearless (Taylor's Version) and Red (Taylor's Version). The latter's "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" became the longest song to top the Hot 100. Her tenth album Midnights (2022) and its lead single "Anti-Hero" broke numerous streaming records. Swift has self-directed music videos and films, such as All Too Well: The Short Film (2021), and had supportive acting roles in others.
Having sold over 200 million records globally, Swift is one of the best-selling musicians of all time. She is the only act to have five albums open with over one million copies sold in the US. Among her accolades are 11 Grammy Awards, including three Album of the Year wins; an Emmy Award; 40 American Music Awards; 29 Billboard Music Awards; and 84 Guinness World Records. Swift has been featured in rankings such as Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time, Billboard's Greatest of All Time Artists, the Time 100 and Forbes Celebrity 100. Honored with titles such as Artist of the Decade and Woman of the Decade, Swift is an advocate for artists' rights and women's empowerment. Her music is credited with influencing a generation of singer-songwriters.
