summary: aurora discovers paul has been saying something about her to her fellow drivers and confronts him about it, only to be met with a strange turn of events.

aurora was in absolute bliss.

she had just won first place in the monaco gp, beating paul by merely a few seconds.

 she loved sharing podiums with paul, because she liked to think that even when he was good enough to be on the podium, she was always a few seconds ahead of him.

watching him soaked in champagne was not part of it.

definitely not.

sadly, her bliss was short-lived.

just as she had finished talking to a few reporters, roman bilinski approached her to congratulate her. they spoke for a few minutes before he said something that set off a conversation that led to catastrophe.

“so, are you dating someone?” his question took her by surprise. “no, i don't really get asked out on many dates” she laughed, slightly embarrassed. “that's probably aron’s fault, but i don't really care, so do you want to maybe go on a date with me?” her attention was caught off after his first words “wait, how is that paul’s fault?” the guy looked slightly annoyed that she had ignored his question.

“you know, the things he always tells all the boys. is it a yes or a no?” he insisted on the question just to be ignored once again. “what does paul say about me?” her eyebrows were furrowed, her question causing him to sigh. “nevermind, i guess he was telling the truth, congrats again” roman spoke before walking away with a small wave, leaving aurora with a doubt in mind.

the girl immediately charged towards the changing room, where she assumed paul was. she was lucky to find him there, completely alone. she entered the room and stood in the middle of it, crossing her arms and staring at him expectantly. He intended to ignore her, but grew uncomfortable at her staring after a few seconds.

“what?” his words were charged with annoyance. “well, i just had a very interesting conversation with roman.” paul’s eyebrows furrowed, not understanding how that had to do anything with him. “yeah, he asked me on a date” her words made his jaw thighten “and that concerns me how?” he was trying so hard to not sound jealous. “he told me a very curious thing, so i wanted to ask you something… why the fuck are you bad mouthing me to the other boys?” the girls words were laced with poison, and they made pauls heart skip a beat. “i don't know what youre talking about, simmons” the boy broke the eye contact they were maintaining, showing her the gesture that she had already learnt. the tell that showed her he was lying.

“well, he said you told them something about me, and with our history i can just assume you're talking shit about me.” she insisted “i have never spoken any shit about you to anyone.” his greyish eyes met her green ones, a frown adorned his face. the honesty they carried confused her. “then what did you tell them?” their eyes battled against each other, trying to make the other one look away and show some vulnerability. “drop it, i haven't said shit” he almost growled at her. paul was getting mad, and aurora took that as a sign of defensiveness.

 “you might think that you're the shit and that you have the right to talk about me, but you don't.” she took a step closer to him, hitting his chest with her pointer finger as if that threatened him. “you don't know what i think, don't put words in my mouth.”

when had they gotten that close? with that small step, their faces were mere inches away. he couldn't avoid how his eyes went to her lips and lingered there a second too long. that wasn't good.

it wasn't good for his supposed hatred for her.

it wasn't good for his self restraint.

and it was definitely not good for his craving for her lips.

he looked back at her eyes in the perfect timing to see how her eyes slipped to his own, and that was it. he lost any type of control over his actions as he caved for her lips.

it took her by surprise. out of all the possible scenarios she had imagined for this conversation, that was not one of them. though she wasn't even half as surprised as he was when he felt her lips move against his.

the kiss wasn't tender and soft like other people would describe their first kiss. it was rough and desperate, a fight for dominance. her hands grabbed his face firmly as he gripped her hips closer to his body and turned her body to press her back against the nearest wall.

aurora realised how much she unknowingly craved his lips. it confused her, it made her angry. why was she so desperate for his kisses when she hated him so profoundly?

he separated shortly from her, admiring her heavy breathing and slightly swollen lips before speaking “next time one of those assholes ignores me and asks you on a date i want you to remember this moment, because not one of them will kiss you like this.” his voice was rough and low, directed for only her to hear. “you don't own me, and i don't need you to protect me” she hissed, tugging the hair at the nape of his neck softly. “i'm doing everything but protecting you right now” he gave her hips a light squeeze before kissing her again, the same desperate feeling filling both of them once more.

they only separated momentarily to breathe before they went at it again. that until she heard her name being called from outside the trailer by a voice she recognized as hamdas inching closer to them. aurora parted away from him, her eyes scanned him slowly as she enjoyed the view of his swollen lips and messy hair.

she felt a pang of pride at how she had caused him to look like that. like that was the best kiss of his life.

the girl picked up her long forgotten bag from the floor and threw it over her shoulder. “keep my name out of your mouth, okay?” a shit eating grin was sent her way before she rolled her eyes and walked away, leaving a very smug looking paul standing in the room.

a smile formed on his lips as he processed what had just happened.

he kissed aurora.

but more surprisingly, aurora kissed him back.

“oh fuck” a profanity left his lips as he realized what that actually meant. aurora knew he told the other guys to stay away from her, and even worse, she probably knew how badly he wanted to kiss her again.
