Reupload of the N's Castle Confrontation fic I posted in my main blog last year.

The air is heavy and cold, as the party of Truth continues onwards to the heart of the castle.

Hilda's Mandibuzz flaps away the icy mist, one that started forming the deeper they went. Bianca's Chandelure guided the way masterfully with her wisps, and the trio held hands as they stepped into the unknown.

"Beebles," Hilbert looks at his friend worriedly. "You sure they didn't hurt you?"

Bianca gives him a reassuring smile, squeezing his hand. "You worry too much, Hilloo! I'm fine, see?"

On times like these, her optimism was a gift. Anxious as they may be, Bianca's idealism doesn't waver in the slightest.

Hilda, similarly, squeezes Hilbert's hand. Though her gaze is tense, she's able to easily overcome her own nervousness at the reassurance of Bianca.

"We'll be alright," she says. "All of us. You, me, Beebles, and Cheri."

Cheri who wasn't here right now. Cheri who was taken.

They'll be okay, Hilbert thinks.

But there's a sinking feeling in his stomach, one that he gets when he attempts to lie.

Once the trio made their way out of the fog, they're greeted by an audience of Team Plasma grunts lining the hall, still and almost solemn.

From the top of the staircase, N sits on his throne, sisters by his side. At the sight of the trio, ever so quickly, Anthea gives them a warm smile while Concordia waves her hand.

Ghetsis and Rood stand at the foot of the staircase; one mad with glee and the other almost regretful in his scowl.

They stop in their tracks. Chandelure and Musharna hover by Bianca's side, while Mandibuzz and Simisear prepare for an ambush. Hilbert's Pokemon rattle from inside their Pokeballs, radiating an unfamiliar heat.

No one speaks until Zinzolin, from another part of the room, makes his way to the center. Though his smile seems composed, he shines with a malice that none of them could begin to describe.

Hilda's fingers press against Hilbert in a manner of one, two, three.

She doesn't have a good feeling about this; and Hilda was usually right in her assumptions.

"The Hero, The Warrior, and The Scholar of Truth," Zinzolin says with his arms spread. "Has come to join us."

Bianca's cheeks puff in indignance, about to give him a piece of her mind, but she stops herself when she notices Hilbert tense.

"Hilbert," she says quietly. "It's alright. Stay calm. Don't lose your heart."

He nods, though his gaze maintains fixated on the man before them.

His speech is lengthy, and Hilbert's increasing anxiety builds up to the point he can barely hear a word. He catches something about the twin princes, their party, their journey..

And he mentions a character that has never been mentioned before.

"As we have gathered here today to witness the decisive battle between Truths and Ideals," Zinzolin says, finally clearing Hilbert's head from the thick fog that crept up in his ears. "Let us not forget an important aspect to this legendary tale."

The Shadow Triad appears from behind him as he says those words, carrying what appeared to be a large box.

..no, wait.

"A glass coffin?" Bianca cocks her head.

"Looks creepy," Hilda shudders. "You two, be ready."

The glass coffin, with a swirling blue mist from inside, is gently lowered into the floor.

From the looks of it, not even N was informed about this turn of events. His hands are on the sides of his throne, but he leans forward in slight interest, trying to make sense of the display before him.

Zinzolin's Cryogonal makes a haunting noise by his side, and with a single swirl of its icy body, the mist inside the body dissipates, along with the thick fog from behind them.

Once the clouds have disappeared and Hilbert takes a second to regain his bearings, he feels Hilda's hand, slightly colder now, pressing his palm anxiously in one, two, three, four, five-

Bianca shrieks.

Hilbert opens his eyes, steadying to see the truth presented before him.

And what he sees is his best friend, Cheren, inside the glass coffin, hands on his chest and eyes shut.

His panic and anxiety is replaced by something else.

One akin to a burning flame.

There are slight murmurs in the crowd, uneasy and terrified as they are, but are hushed immediately by Rood's commanding presence. N's calm demeanor immediately changes, and he attempts to climb from his throne, only to be stopped by his sisters.

"What," N gasps out. "What is this?"

"My king, though your excellence has enabled you to wake the legendary dragon of Ideals without fail," Zinzolin has a smile that Hilbert wants nothing more than to punch. "It seems The Hero of Truth is still immature and unaccepting of his role."

"Indeed," Ghetsis speaks up, looking amused, that mad grin on his face stretching by each passing second. "But not to worry, that is why we have decided to assist his party. By all means, we want a fair fight, don't we?"

Hilbert's mind is spinning.

Questions flood his head and tears threaten to form in the corner of his eyes. He tries to speak, tries to move, but none of them work.

Hilda, hand still in his, is the first to break the silence amongst their trio. "Hey," her legs start to shake as she struggles to maintain calm at the sight before her. "What is all this? What are you talking about?"

In the second of silence that passes them, Hilda's voice gets louder, a rage unlike any other.

"What did you do?!"

All while Bianca, attempting to keep true to her hopes, starts stammering out pieces of the legend she has gathered in her journey.

"The Hero of Truth," her gaze is fixated on the coffin. "Was accompanied by his three companions throughout their journey," she can't look away from Cheren's body. "The Warrior, The Scholar, and.."

She thinks of the implications. She thinks of their first steps. She thinks of Hilda's strength, her own journey to find the truth, and Hilbert's newfound goal of stopping Team Plasma.

"The Heart."

From inside her bag, the Light Stone entrusted to her by Hilbert starts to shake.

With a smile, Zinzolin steps aside as one of the Shadow Triad opens up the coffin.

Hilbert keeps staring. At the coffin, at Cheren, at the half-eaten apple that was in his palms-

"Yes, The Heart. A befitting offering for Reshiram's Chosen."

An offering.

An offering to Reshiram's Chosen.

Hilbert himself was presented with the gift of his best friend's dead body.

The Light Stone gets warmer, Hilda begins to crumble, Bianca is about to collapse, and Hilbert feels his grip on reality loosening.

Don't lose your heart, don't lose your heart, don't lose-

But the very repetition of those words is his breaking point.

He lets go of Bianca and Hilda's hands, his feet carrying him closer to his best friend.

His Pokemon emerge from their balls without command, Emboar and Simipour by his side while Cinccino climbs his shoulder.

From N's sight, he sees the ghostly form of flames seep from within Hilbert's body, almost forming wings at his back.

The rage of the Hero of Truth finally comes out in the form of a growl, one that Bianca has never heard her childhood friend do.

"Team Plasma," The smoke that comes out from within him is not from Emboar, as he completely discards what was asked of him by his mother, by Bianca, and by Cheren at the start of their journey.

Don't lose your heart.

"I'll make you pay!"

"Do you wanna repeat yerself there???"

"... That's what I fuckin' thought, Andrew. Now get the FUCK outta my office."

"It's me, Denise. Clear next week so we can start some interviews; we might need ta start lookin' fer a new chief of police."

For all “Emmet is accused of and put on trial for murdering Ingo” is great whump fodder, the fact is, there’s evidence that incarceration or even what we think of as traditional criminal justice isn’t really a thing in Pokemon Earth. One of Team Plasma’s Sages, Rood, is given the opportunity to atone for his crimes alongside other former members of Team Plasma to return Pokemon they stole to their trainers. In USUM, Lusamine and Guzma endanger all of Alola with their actions and Lusamine doesn’t appear to face any legal consequences and Guzma starts working under Hala.

And Chairman Rose is particularly egregious, imo. While it’s never said outright what happens to him after the main story, Oleana makes a cameo appearance in the DLC where she’s shown looking for Rose, having heard a man who looks like him (actually Rose’s younger brother Peony) was in the area, implying that Rose is a free man. I suppose he could be on the lamb but that doesn’t seem likely, he lost most of his resolve after being defeated. And the postgame antagonists of SwSh, Sordward and Shielbert, are explicitly free and atoning for their actions using their wealth.

Anyways. Point is, Pokemon Earth is a lot kinder than our world, and Emmet’s not going to get falsely accused, probably.

As the weather grows colder, Hestia has become very popular with our other residents.

rotating hazel and leon in my mind some more. but also my beloved OC camila and her nerd boyfriend cheren

for context, camila is my OC who replaces hilda/hilbert as the MC for pokemon black & white. she's a pokemon battle loving dork who is upsettingly physically strong. as in, when she disappeared for 2 years while looking for N, she was sparring with her own pokemon. hand to hand combat with a blaziken. basically taking on plasma grunts herself instead of bothering with the formalities of a pokemon battle. she's also hazel's cousin, older by 2 years

a couple years after B2W2 came out, i decided for one reason or another to retire camila- that she'd become champion, she didn't need to do anything else and she could retire.

problem? camila was 16 during the events of B2W2. she's young!!!!! she doesn't need to retire! I'M FIXING THAT. SHE DESERVES BETTER

so now i can spend time thinking about what she, cheren and bianca are up to 10~ years later! especially since at some point camila and cheren started dating for real (and are effectively an old married couple at this point)

since we don't have any new information on cheren and bianca officially.... i'd like to think cheren's moved up from being a teacher at the small trainer school.. maybe a larger school somewhere in unova now? i'll have to think on it, but i'd like to think he's higher up in the pokemon league structure now, but probably is still a gym leader

i'd like to think camila took the initiative post her 2 year trip around the world to ensure ghetsis is out of the picture and neo team plasma is disbanded for good, while helping N and Rood establish the remaining dedicated team plasma members into a more coherent organization dedicated to helping weak and abandoned pokemon

camila, unlike hazel, is a little more comfortable with being in charge and taking on duties, so she works with the pokemon league a lot more and still serves as a representative even though she let go of the champion role officially a long time ago. that saaaid, she's still a fan of running off and having fun instead of being tied down to paperwork (leaving all of it for cheren to do, while she gets to do fun things like wrestle a beartic)

meanwhile bianca's a little more settled, still working on her pokemon professor studies and focusing on like, 5 or 6 different areas because she's still not 100% sure what she'd like to focus on when she finally becomes a fully fledged pokemon professor- she's friends with Sonia, though! she always seems to be interested in a new topic every week... but! she's very knowledgeable, and it comes in handy more often than not- just more in a practical sense, and less a study sense

when they all have free time though, camila's absolutely dedicated to getting the three of them out of unova- whether it's going to champion summits, just tagging along on research trips with bianca, or literally any reason under the sun to go somewhere, she's making an excuse to take her best friends with her <3 (and once in a while picking somewhere romantic to go with cheren)

and, well, that new undersea academy off the unova coast sounds interesting. cheren got a job offer to teach for a semester there... hmmm....

meanwhile uhhhh leon and hazel are holding hands. i dunno. i HAD something i wanted to say but it disappeared out of my brain

Hilda obtained her trainer’s license at sixteen and completed the Unovan Gym Challenge in under ten months, she is one of four trainers (N, Cheren, and Bianca) from that year to do so.

Hilda was the trainer to defeat the original Team Plasma.

She holds the title of former Unova Champion and is honored in the Hall of Fame. Hilda never acted as Champion, only her friends and the League know her reasoning for turning down the position.

Despite not having acted as Champion, Hilda can sometimes be seen at league functions and has remained on good terms with the Unova league. 

Hilda captured Reshiram at Plasma’s Castle and is The Hero of Truth, the dragon remains in her possession.

She vanished from Unova for nearly three years after her journey, returning just after Neo Team Plasma was defeated. The reasoning behind her departure is not public, some speculate she was training, others that she was searching for someone.

She has only recently been seen on the competitive battling scene, having taken a hiatus after her journey.

✦ | Semi-Public Information | ✦ (Unovan citizens, select groups, and friends know)

Hilda is bonded to Reshiram. Those familiar with bonds between humans and legendaries may know that this means the two can freely communicate and feel one another’s pain.

Ghetsis attempted to kill Hilda during their battle at the castle, but her Samurott took a hit in order to protect her that nearly cost his life. He has scars on his chest from it.

Her mother, Clara, is a nurse at Accumula Pokemon Center. Her father, Ethan, was a Pokemon researcher with an interest in legends. He passed away in a cave in that occurred at an excavation site in the Ruins of Alph. Both of her parents were Pokemon trainers that completed the Unovan Gym Challenge but did not defeat the Elite Four.

After finding her footing again in Unova, Hilda speaks with aspiring trainers at the trainer schools in Unova.

Hilda is passionate about Pokemon conservation efforts and supports related charities. She pursues participating in research involving strengthening the bonds between people and Pokemon. Like her father, Hilda also has an interest in legends across various regions. 

Hilda frequently checks in on Rood’s Drifveil City group of members from the original Team Plasma that remained loyal to N. She continues to offer assistance in their efforts to reunite or find new homes, for Pokemon that were separated from their trainers. 

✦ | Private Information | ✦ (only those close to Hilda know)

Due to Unova’s dragons being the result of one dragon’s split, Reshiram’s existence in a physical form is dependent on being bonded to a person. If Hilda were to surrender her title, or when she inevitably passes, Reshiram will revert to the light stone until it recognizes a new hero. (Those very familiar with the legend of the Unovan dragons will also know this)

Due to her bond with Reshiram, Hilda can tell if someone is lying.

Hilda spent her time away from Unova after her journey traveling to various regions and building her bond with Reshiram. She raised an Umbreon named Shadow during this time and accepted scatted challenges for battle. While traveling she kept an eye out for N but never found him.

Hilda has PTSD as a result of her experiences facing Team Plasma. The trauma caused a period of stagnancy following her initial journey and hiatus from competitive battling.

Hilda was hospitalized in Opelucid City for a few weeks following the events that occurred at Plasma’s Castle for treatment of burns and other injuries sustained during her battles against Reshiram, N, and Ghetsis.

Since her return to Unova, Hilda suffers from tension headaches from time to time.

She resides in Nuvema town, renting a small house from an older couple that has known her since she was a child that has relocated. Her mother takes care of the home whenever she is traveling.
