Sabi Lore Post!!! But this one is just one question because it got a little long.
I'm working off of hyperions-light's Rook Intro Hour questions for the most part!
Bonus Sabi screenshots:

This post is: If your Rook had not been recruited by Varric after they were exiled from their faction, what would they have done? How would they have reacted to the events of the game if they weren't in a position to influence them? Would they have tried to go back to their faction? Would they have joined another? Would they have attempted to combat the gods alone?
Sabriel, being a trained spirit healer, would still take her skills outside of Nevarra even if she wasn't recruited by Varric. She readily accepted her "punishment"/sabbatical after the War of the Banners, and took it mostly as an opportunity to see the world outside of the Necropolis. She'd spent her whole life either in its walls or in Nevarra City, and she wanted to explore the places she had read about so many times.
The first place she would go is Rivain, to see the ocean and see if she could learn about spirits from the seers. She would want to visit Antiva, but with the Antaam invasion she would likely just try to pass through unscathed.
I like to think that she'd ultimately get wrapped up with the Shadow Dragons in Minrathous. She's a person begging for a calling- she likes to help, she has the skills to do so, and she feels strongly for her fellow elves, so the Shadows would be an easy sell for her. In my mind she has a little clinic in Dock Town to treat injuries and minor illnesses (very similar to Anders honestly, keeping up that spirit healer tradition!). She can help consult with the Shadows on demon and spirit problems, giving them a new perspective with her spirit caller skills and Mourn Watch background. She sometimes clashes with Tevinter mages due to the cultural differences (leaving the Necropolis really shows her how deeply Nevarran she is) but she knows they're doing their best with what they've got, knowledge-wise.
She'd be a good contact for the Veilguard, and could serve as ears and eyes on the ground for Neve once Neve is at the Lighthouse and not in Dock Town every day. Even if Minrathous falls to the dragon, she would be hardy enough to survive, though the Venatori taking over Minrathous would spur her to leave, likely to return to Nevarra for safety. She would be a strong voice for supporting the Veilguard within the Mourn Watch. She would likely not face the gods until the very end, in the battle against Elgar'nan in Minrathous, focused on taking care of the injured and Blighted.
I just really like the idea of Sabriel getting to explore Thedas a little, and overlapping with the Veilguard without necessarily being a part of it. She's your friendly neighborhood healer- a little medical assistance, a little gossip, weird connections from being in the Shadows but also the Mourn Watch. She listens to spirits in her spare time and goes and stares at the water. She would still love Neve. She's practiced in making a home for herself- even though she grew up in Nevarra, her lack of familial history and roots means she built her Home herself, so she's fully capable of doing it again.
#oc: sabriel ingellvar#my writing#rook questions#dragon age#I latched onto the idea of Shadow Dragon Sabi and wanted to run with it haha

TheCraftyBaroness's Pinned Posts for your reading pleasure:
Dragon Age Veilguard Mini-Fics:
The Lighthouse Makes Their Eyes Glow - a short idea I had after seeing the very fantastic art by @vonspe
Lighthouse Pranks - Part 1
Magic lingers in the Lighthouse, making the Veilguard’s mages glow when their emotions run high. At first, it’s startling—then it becomes an opportunity. Spite and Manfred have discovered the thrill of the perfect ambush, and no one is safe.
Lighthouse Pranks - Part 2
Spite and Manfred refine their craft, taking their pranks to new heights—literally. But their targets are not so easily fooled. Emmrich is delighted, Neve solves the case before it even begins, and somehow, the wisps may be having the most fun of all.
Lighthouse Pranks - Part 3
Spite and Manfred take their pranks to new extremes, lurking in the shadows of Harding’s garden and finding an unexpected new hiding place in Sabriel’s (Rook) quarters, leaving chaos—and threat of prank revenge—in their wake.
Lighthouse Pranks - Part 4
Spite and Manfred get the drop on Davrin and Assan. (Posted but I need to reorganize my links as I didn't realize it would be limited to 10 in a post 😅)
Emmrich and my Rook (Sabriel Mercar):
So Very Loved - Where Rook sees a glimpse into what Emmrich's childhood may have been like after his parents died and wants to make sure he knows he is very loved.
Rook is Loved As Well - Where Emmrich returns to the Lighthouse and finds Rook worn out and asleep at the table in the Library.
Buying a Ring for Emmrich - Rook wants to buy a ring to gift Emmrich. Taash's help is enlisted and they travel to Rivain to find one.
No Time Left - A Ring for Emmrich - It's the night before Tearstone, Sabriel (Rook) worries that she might not have another chance to give Emmrich the ring she got him.
Want to know more about my Rook - Sabriel Mercar?

From the rook questions list: Does Storm have an irrational phobia?
Rook Ask Game
I'm not sure if it's irrational, but as a Grey Warden it's certainly... inconvenient. But Storm is scared of Hurlocks.
He's gotten better over time and now rather than freezing he will just ignore anything else in the fight and focus entirely on the hurlock - which is still an issue... But it's better than he used to be.
And, I have written a short snippet based on this 😂 so I give you the first time a 17 year old Storm encountered a Hurlock after 'the blight incident' and his emergency joining.
--
It turned out that being a Warden was fairly boring most of the time. The days blurred together in a monotonous rhythm: long treks across the land, endless training sessions, and the occasional skirmish with small groups of darkspawn that didn’t offer much challenge. The constant vigilance was there, but so was the overwhelming sense of tedium. The real kicker, though, was the dreams. They were unsettling - disturbing glimpses of ancient, echoing voices. He'd been told it was the old gods calling to him, darkspawn whispering through the taint - not exactly a reassuring explanation.
But for the most part, the first few months of being a Warden were uneventful, with nothing more than the same routine repeated day after day.
Another day, another long, uneventful patrol. Storm drifted toward the rear, as mages were supposedly meant to do. That, too, had been a point of contention—apparently, mages cast from the back. Mages used staffs. A mage with a dagger? The Wardens didn’t know where to place him in the formation. In Storm’s opinion, they were just being difficul - too rigid.
Today they were scouting a cave system. It took mere minutes to secure the area, but the weight of the taint in the air was unmistakable - it gripped their senses, pulling at their veins. Darkspawn. A low, guttural growl that reverberated through the cave like a death knell.
Nothing unusual. They fought darkspawn regularly. They were Wardens. It's what they did. But today something felt off.
Storm’s heart raced in his chest, his legs suddenly feeling heavy, as though made of lead. He’d been trained for this. He knew how to fight. He’d only been a Warden for a few months, but fighting was nothing new. So why couldn’t he move? What was wrong with him?
The growl echoed again, sharper this time, and Storm's instincts screamed at him to react. His grip on his dagger tightened, and his hand sparked with flecks of lightning, but his body refused to cooperate. His breath coming in short, shallow bursts, chest tight, the air thick with a strange, suffocating pressure.
He couldn’t move.
The darkspawn appeared from the shadows, emerging with a slow, deliberate gait. Its hulking form loomed over him, eyes glinting.
A hurlock.
It moved closer, its jagged teeth glinting in the dim light of the cave, its hulking form a grotesque reminder of the nightmarish creature that had nearly taken his life. He could feel the taint radiating from it like heat, the suffocating pressure of the Blight filling his lungs, making it harder to breathe. The sound of its claws scraping against the stone echoed in the back of his mind, louder than his own racing thoughts.
“Storm,” Aunt Bethany’s voice cut through the haze of panic, sharp and commanding.
He couldn’t move.
He couldn’t even think.
The growl that came next was deeper, more menacing, and it snapped something inside him. The image of the hurlock biting into his arm, the sickening, tearing sensation, flooded his mind. The Blight. The darkness. The infection. Everything he had been trying to ignore, everything that had led him to this moment, it all crashed into him at once.
“Storm, move!” Aunt Bethany’s voice cut through his mind, but it was distant, as though coming from the other side of a vast chasm. Her urgency didn’t seem to reach him - his mind was stuck, trapped in that single, awful memory. His body refusing to respond.
Get a grip, he thought, move, damn it. He had to move. He had to do something.
The hurlock took another step, its massive footfall shaking the ground beneath them. It snarled, its eyes locking on Storm as though it could sense the hesitation in him.
You’re not that weak anymore. You’re a Warden.
The words echoed in his mind, but they felt distant, too abstract. He couldn’t go through it again. Not like that. Not again.
"Storm!" Bethany’s voice was sharper now, and he felt a hand grab his arm, pulling him back.
The world around him was a blur—shouts, clashing steel, the crackling of his own lightning. Everything felt distant, like he was observing from somewhere far away.
The growl of the hurlock faded into the background as his body trembled, his mana nearly drained, his senses overwhelmed. By the time the creature crumpled to the ground, dead at the Wardens’ feet, Storm was shaking uncontrollably, his legs unsteady beneath him.
The journey back to camp was a blur, the landscape slipping past in a haze.
He could hardly recall the path they took, the faces of the Wardens as they passed. But what stayed with him, vivid and real, was Bethany’s hand still firmly gripping his arm, guiding him, offering him something to hold onto as his world spun out of control.

5 & 21 for the ask game 💜
5 What emotion do they pick
Stoic or the fist (I think angry), unless that option would be cruel/insensitive in which case then diplomatic. They're rarely sarcastic, but they like jokes.
21 What is Rook's favorite ability
Narratively, breaking blood magic. If you mean like skill tree wise, Spirit Bomb!

2,3,10, & 13 for the Rook ask!
Ahh!! First time someone asks me something here!! So exciting!!! Though I still feel kinda lost with this whole Tumblr thing… I have no idea how anything works yet, but I’ll figure it out!
(This is me, thinking about my OCs. Tried to find a gif of an old lady with a computer, would not recommend)
Anyway... here we go!!!
2. Do they like Harding's cooking?
Mel would eat almost anything -almost being the key word here. She appreciates the effort and love that go into everything Harding makes, so she eats it (sometimes even going for seconds), but liking it as in… really liking it? …No, but she’d never say that aloud. She’s been around Harding for too long and would never do anything that might upset her.
3. What animal/monster would Davrin carve for your Rook?
Mel LOVES candlehops. Do these count as creatures?? No?? Then the easy answer would be a firefly, since that used to be her old nickname
10. What would Lucanis buy for your Rook at the Grande Market?
EVERYTHING. No, seriously. She’s so much into perfumes and fashion (she’s Tevene, after all), especially hair ornaments. But, you know, end of the world and all that… so she hasn’t really been able to enjoy those things. That means Lucanis has tons of options for gifts.
On another note -not from the Grand Market, but I actually have a story outlined from Lucanis' POV, set years after the events of the game in which he goes searching for the origin of candlehops (told you she loved them!) because Mel misses Minrathous, she’s pregnant at that point and can’t travel much, and so, he wants to get one for her. But then… everything goes wrong :)
13. Would your Rook like Emmrich's mother's hazelnut torte?
I made that cake and, sure as I am Lucanis is a much better cook than me, Mel would LOVE it. (It’s not too sweet, the flavor is so rich… seriously, it’s delicious, you all have to try it!!)
Again, thanks for asking!! This was so much fun!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Questions can be found here, these are so cute!!! :)

Note
for the rook questions!! 1, 3, 9 and 14 please :)
Thanks for asking @ollypopwrites ! :>
I was very happy to have a chance to write something about them!
Originally, I wanted to answer with all my Rooks, but it took me so long...and I only got patience with my 3 mains.

Virida Aldwir (qunari rogue veil jumper):
1.What is your Rook's biggest pet peeve?
When stranger (someone she doesn’t know or trust) tries to touch her. Like putting their hands over her shoulders, playfully touching her hair or arms and ect.
3.What does your Rook's favorite mug look like?
Simple red clay cup with drawn flowers on it, given as present for helping some villager. She loves handmade stuff.
9.What would your Rook's café order be?
Virida rarely has a chance to visit cafes and she orders something new that she couldn’t cook while in Veil Jumper camps or in wildlife. And for drinks her choice is herbal tea.
14.Extra: If someone wanted to reach your Rook but couldn't find them, who would be the best person to ask where they are?
Strife, since he was her boss. In pre-veilguard, Virida worked as leader for search groups if someone was lost or lead as navigator through Arlathan forest for researchers. She also does solo trips for finding new ruins, possible traps or anomalies.
Her adoptive elven parents, Varalan and Mairin. They become non-official leaders of Veil Jumper’s settlement. Virida write them letters, when she moves long distance, to let them in which region is she.
Nailynn Thorne (elf mage grey warden):
1.What is your Rook's biggest pet peeve?
Being rudely interrupted or mean attitude in general.
3.What does your Rook's favorite mug look like?
Blue old metal cup she got from Warden’s campsite after she joined them. Something you won’t be upset if you’ll lose it. For her it’s reminder of new life.
9.What would your Rook's café order be?
Nailynn wants something simple or familiar. After becoming a warden, her tastes in food become more undemanding. Something you can grab and eat. Sandwiches and black coffee.
14.Extra: If someone wanted to reach your Rook but couldn't find them, who would be the best person to ask where they are?
(Pre-veilguard) Warden Rodan Thorne. After the Joining, he took her under a wing, even gave Lynn his surname “Thorne”. They used to write each other, while searching for Solas, but lost contact in Act 1 or 2.
Tho, Lynn is hard to loose. She’s pretty clingy and sticks with groups. I think she’ll spend her free time with Neve, Davrin or Harding.
Teighan Ingellvar (dwarf warrior mourn watcher):
1.What is your Rook's biggest pet peeve?
Passive-aggressive behavior or when someone trying provoke her into a fight.
3.What does your Rook's favorite mug look like?
Green ceramic mug in Nevarra’s style with hexagon design and ect. This was present from one their caretakers from the orphanage. Very protective over this one.
9.What would your Rook's café order be?
Teighan is sweet-tooth. They would enjoy ice-cream in any time and weather. And for drinks something warm like glühwein.
14.Extra: If someone wanted to reach your Rook but couldn't find them, who would be the best person to ask where they are?
(Pre-veilguard) Lady Marjeanne. She’s a housemother of the orphanage, where they grew up. Tei rarely but visits and sends letters and money for orphanage.

Put your Rook Through The Horrors™
Feel free to answer some of these for pre-game as well! :)
What is the worst they've ever been injured?
What is the worst they've ever been sick?
What is the worst heartbreak they've ever experienced?
What would fearlings look like to them?
What event brought them to their lowest, mentally? How did they act during this time?
Have they ever been in any unhealthy relationships? This doesn't necessarily have to be romantic.
How high is their physical pain tolerance? Do they ever show if they're in pain? What about their mental pain tolerance? How easy would it be to break them down?
What kind of demon would emerge from them had they been subject to Zara's experiments?
What would a nightmare tailored to their worst fears look like?
Who do they miss the most?
Which one of their senses would they fear losing the most?
What do they doubt most about themselves? Why? Where did this come from?
What kind of injury scares them the most?
Think of the two people they are closest to. They can only save one. Who are they choosing?
What is the one thing that would make them lose all hope?
What kind of demon would be most successful in tempting them? What offer would it have given them?
Have they ever felt insignificant? To the world? To their faction? To their loved ones?
Which one of their insecurities would be the easiest to take advantage of?
One of their loved ones just got grievously injured by their enemies. Who was it? How do they react?
Deep down, did they truly believe they'd be able to get out when they were trapped in the Fade?
What would their last words be?
#rook questions#might add more to this later if i can think of any...#but have at it! put your little guys through the wringer!!

Who is Rook? Pt 2 - Kalle Aldwir
Using this questionnaire I made, feel free to grab it yourself. SO MANY SPOILERS BELOW and in that link. SO MANY.
Part 1 (Before The Veilguard)
Part 3 (During the Veilguard // Act 2: The Price of the Past)
Part 4 (During the Veilguard // Act 3: The Wrath of Ages)

During The Veilguard
Act 1: Signs and Portents
What was Rook’s status with their own faction at the beginning of the game? Why were they recruited by Varric?
Strife was, to say the least, fucking pissed at Kalle for losing the map. Kalle is generally hard to anger, but he was pissed right back; he stands by his decision to save his team instead of a precious one-of-a-kind ancient artifact that would’ve led them to loads more ancient artifacts. It was a strange sensation to disagree with him so violently, since Kalle’s looked up to Strife for as long as he’s known him.
It was a relief to leave Arlathan and help the search for the Dread Wolf, and Kalle cooled off quickly once he was out of there. Strife… didn’t really, but Irelin worked on him.
What did Rook think of Varric when they first met? Did Rook support Varric’s choice to confront Solas alone?
Kalle immediately loved Varric. He’s willing to be charmed at all times, and Varric’s storytelling is right up his alley. He would’ve followed Varric into anything, and he trusted Varric’s judgment when it came to Solas. Varric and Harding knew Solas. Kalle didn’t, apart from the (obviously bullshit) stories about Fen’harel.
Did Rook take Neve or Harding with them when they went to interrupt the ritual themselves? Why?
Neve. He’s an archer himself, so it made more sense to have a mage with him.
How did Rook engage with stories of the elven gods at the beginning of the Veilguard? Were the familiar or strange? Was it disorienting to have them rewritten or did it make no real difference to them?
He’d always loved the stories and was grateful for the chance to see them coming into better focus… even if they took a very different shape than he would’ve expected when he was a little boy back in Rivain. That said, he never really managed to think of the gods as gods, so finding out they were just disgustingly powerful mages made more sense to him.
When Bellara expressed that she was worried about what people would think of elves, when they heard about Elgar’nan and Ghili’nain’s escape and bid for power, he realized she was correct. Historically, humans never needed an excuse to blame elves for everything; they’d need even less now that they knew it was their own gods who’d fucked them over in the first place. It was a problem for another time, but it did sit in the back of Kalle’s mind, especially when they were helping with Veil Jumper business.
And, if he’s honest, when they were dealing with what was left of Minrathous after the dragon and blight. Ages and ages ago, Tevinter jumped on the burning aftermath of the war to pick Arlathan’s corpse clean and enslave its people. Now its capital had been destroyed as a result of the same--or similar, they weren’t sure at that point--forces. This didn’t bode well, if things went sideways.
What was Rook’s instinctive reaction to having Solas in their head and dreams? How did Rook respond when Solas asked them why they should be the one to lead the Veilguard?
Confusion, then irritation when he found out it was via blood magic. At the same time, he needed what Solas knew. And, okay, a teeny tiny part of him really did want to impress the Dread Wolf.
He told Solas he would lead because someone had to, and no one else was volunteering. Anyhow, Varric seemed to think he should, and he really, really trusted Varric.
Did Rook think Neve was right about needing more investigation before acting or that Harding was right that there was no time to spare? What made them think that?
Though he’s impulsive by nature, he knew Neve was right: there was so much they didn’t know and they were out of their depth. His time with the Veil Jumpers taught him a lot about the disastrous consequences of not looking before you leap when it comes to ancient elven magic. (And bears.)
What did Rook decide to do with Mayor Julius of D’Meta’s crossing? Why?
He released him. With Solas in his head, he didn’t feel like he was in a position to judge. Anyhow, living with something that fucked up is a way worse punishment than death.
How did Rook react to Harding’s new magic? Were they supportive or wary or a mix of both?
Having spent the last few years around barely understood magic himself, he found it exciting. He immediately guessed that Harding was discovering something about her people, just as he’d been doing about his--and he was happy for her and wanted to reassure her.
He realized at that point that he might’ve developed a teeny, tiny crush on Harding while they’d been following Varric all over the damn place. She’s just so pretty, though! And amazing with a bow! And seeing her distressed hurt. And and and.
How did Rook feel among the ancient elven magic and ruins of Arlathan? Did they find Bellara’s work disturbing or fascinating or something else?
Some of the ruins on the outskirts, especially the quiet ones, have been Kalle’s happy place for a long time. He loves the ruins, even the ones that bring out his cultivated cautious side.
He regrets that he never got to work with Bellara before, because she’s a damn delight. They immediately clicked and bonded over their shared love of Dalish nerdery, though he did learn quickly he needed to tread carefully with her due to something in her past. He’s sensitive to things like that, considering his own.
How did Rook feel about working with a bunch of assassins, the Antivan Crows? Were they familiar with the organization, a Crow themselves, or something else? How did they feel about Lucanis, specifically about Lucanis and Spite?
When he set out for Antiva, Kalle wasn’t hopeful. He’d heard stories, he’d traveled through part of Antiva, and the Crows just didn’t seem like they’d be helpful against gods. And then he met Viago and Teia and instantly had a crush on the pair of them. After a few minutes with Catarina, his opinion had changed entirely; these were capable leaders, they just went about things a very, very, very different way than any others. Sure, they were murderers (sorry, assassins!), but at least they didn’t send hapless soldiers to their deaths in droves, right?
When he met Lucanis, he was amazed at his resilience, even though he suspected he was more than a little bit (understandably) unhinged. It turned out Lucanis was indeed traumatized but holding himself together better than expected--and a lot of that was probably down to Spite. So while he was worried about Spite, Kalle also grew up in a place where spirits were respected and revered… and there was something about Lucanis’s competence that made him believe that, with the help of the team, he could handle it.
Was he at all influenced by the fact that he found Lucanis even more wildly attractive than the talons he’d just met? Yes, yes he was.
How did Rook feel about the Shadow Dragons? Had they ever been to Minrathous before or just heard stories? How did Neve strike them at first?
Before meeting Varric, all the stories Rook heard about Minrathous were very, very bad. His mother’s family wasn’t enslaved there, but near the mountains in Marothius. Nevertheless, the stories were bleak, from the point of view of enslaved people, and his father never had anything good to say about Tevinter either.
That said, he was both curious to see the city more intimately (he never did listen to his mother’s warnings…or anyone’s) and to meet more Shadow Dragons. He liked and was a little awed by Neve right away. She was a dreaded Tevinter Mage but she was on the right side, and that was all that mattered. He also knew there was a resistance inside Minrathous and that a furious debate about the future of enslaved people was whirling in the Magisterium; to meet Dorian Pavus and Maevaris Tilani, even though he hadn’t known their names before, was humbling.
Meeting and knowing the Shadow Dragons gave him incredible hope not just for his people but for the world.
What did Rook think of the Wardens when they met them? The First Warden? Antoine and Evka? Davrin (and his tits)? And of course, the MVP, Assan?
Stories of the Wardens were among his favorites when Kalle was a kid. Fighting monsters and darkspawn and being a hero? Yes please! Davrin immediately seemed like his childhood ideal of a hero, and he had a griffon. He didn’t seem to know what to do with him, but he was trying, and it was devastatingly charming. Kalle loved and felt very protective of Assan from the moment he met the lil guy.
And, yes, he immediately crushed on Davrin too. Obviously.
Antoine and Evka became fast friends with Kalle quickly. He loves them, their curiosity, and their devotion to their order--and how it doesn’t get in the way of sense. Like some Wardens. Just saying.
But honestly, they’re so cute together, he and Harding talk about it all the time.
The blight itself scares the fuck out of Kalle. It smells like rot and feels like it too. It activates a primal fear of disease and infection in him that he can’t control to some extent. It’s miserable and he hates wading through it. He’ll fight demons and undead all fucking day rather than burst one more godsdamned blight blister.
Did Rook choose to help Minrathous or Treviso? Why?
Treviso was already beset by Antaam and had no standing army--what could the Crows do against a dragon? He felt they were more vulnerable, and so he went to Treviso.
How did Rook feel after seeing what happened to the city they couldn’t save? Who did they talk to about it, if anyone, and how did they feel toward Neve and Lucanis in the aftermath?
When he saw blighted Minrathous, Rook felt like absolute shit. He didn’t question his decision--there was no right answer and he knew it—but he regretted the necessity of it so hard. Seeing the people of Minrathous, especially the ones who were as much under the thumb of the Magisters as his own forebears, hit hard.
He didn’t blame Neve for not trusting him after that, but it stung. Kalle prides himself on being really, really good with people. He doesn’t like feeling there’s nothing he can do to improve someone’s opinion of him. Especially when they’re justified in their distrust.
While he knew Lucanis was grateful for the help in Treviso, they were both really aware of Neve in the aftermath, too much so to talk about it in any positive way. A nod between them, a knowing look, and an unspoken understanding was enough.
Had Rook ever been to Rivain before? What were their impressions? Did they have any experience with Antaam or Qunari outside the Qun? What did they think of Taash and Shathann?
Kalle lived in Rivain until he was 13! He knew some Qunari, as there are plenty of them in Rivain, and had a handful of family friends or personal acquaintances that were Vashoth. Taash immediately delighted him. One time he saw them doing pull ups and had to go lie down for a few minutes before the blood returned to his brain. (Yes, another crush, he can’t help himself. They’re hilarious and hot, though! And hunt dragons!) Shathann irritated him but he bore with her for Taash’s sake. And for the sake of his own mother, who he still misses almost daily.
What was Rook’s first impression of the Nevarran Necropolis? Were they interested, disturbed, or something else? What did they think of Emmrich and, most importantly, Manfred?
As much as disease and rot repels Kalle, he’s fine with death. He had to come to terms with it very young and on his own, since his father was shattered and needed Kalle to keep him alive, effectively. Mortalitasi magic had a similar, if less personal appeal to the ancient elven magic swirling through Arlathan: curious, powerful, dangerous, irresistible.
He befriended Emmrich immediately--and Manfred, after the initial surprise. Emmrich’s avuncular professor vibe could’ve been off-putting seeing as formal schooling was a nightmare for Kalle, but Emmrich is too fascinating, kind, charming, and thoughtful to irritate anyone, let alone Kalle. The growing bond between Emmrich and Manfred was a source of much enjoyment to everyone in the Lighthouse (once they got used to them!) but especially Kalle.
Spending time in the Necropolis with Emmrich was soothing. It helped Kalle process some lingering stuff he didn’t know he was still carrying around, and he’ll always be grateful to Emmrich for that among other things.
What did Rook think of the Inquisitor? Did they become personal friends or did they keep it professional? Who was the Inquisitor’s lover, if any, and did Rook have an opinion of that?
Inquisitor Lavellan awed Kalle at first, but they quickly found common ground, both being Dalish and thrust into weird and unexpected high-stakes leadership roles. They both had to admit that it seemed oddly appropriate that it was up to other elves to clean up after Solas and the Evanuris.
Kalle met Dorian before he met the Inquisitor, and was struck by how absurdly good-looking the couple was. He also wondered how the hell they kept it together, being so far apart and so busy. Maybe love is a thing, just not a thing for Kalle?
At the Siege of Weisshaupt, how did Rook deal with the First Warden and why?
Kalle’s temper doesn’t flare often, and he knew what he was trying to get everyone to believe (my gods are real and they’re controlling the blight and hate us) was absolutely wild… but he couldn’t help it.
He punched the First Warden in his stupid fucking face and it felt great.

Number 10 for that 'spicy questions for your Rook + their romanced partner' question list ❤️
This one is difficult to answer, because Marcus loves everything on Illario's body. Every part of him is his favorite hehe.
He loves Illario's nose. Loves kissing the tip of it. He just can't resist it, especially when Illario is about to get angry. Marcus uses the kiss on the nose as a shut down button. It doesn't always work, but it's worth a try.
Illario's mouth is another favorite of Marcus'. Illario has a very...multifunctional mouth. His chest, his arms, his neck, the Holy Trinity of cuddles. Burying his face into Illario's neck, or using his chest as a pillow, both are perfect. His hands and fingers, another multifunctional part of Illario. His stupid, beautiful eyes, Marcus loves those too. His eyes. His face. His back. His broad shoulders. His ears. His stomach and his happy trail. Playing with that little tuft of hair around his ears. Marcus loves everything on Illario.
And obviously his dick is a top favorite. If he could bring one thing to a deserted island, it would be Illario's dick. Fun times without Illario's yappity yap.

Rook QOTD: How does Rook and their love interest show affection towards each other? What are their love languages?
I do want to archive them here for easy reference so answer below the cut
Callum/Solas
Callum is very physically affectionate and so he is always touching Solas. Everything from casual brushes against each other when he walks past, always wanting to hug or cuddle or kiss. This is very overwhelming for Solas at first because he is so unused to being touched with such frequency and with such casualness, but it grows to become an important part of their relationship. Solas is very touch starved to me, but he thinks he doesn't deserve it so it takes a while before Callum can ease him into it.
For them, Solas mainly expresses his love through acts and affectionate nicknames. Callum might wake up to find his favorite tea already waiting for him or Solas taking care of things around the Lighthouse he has been putting off or through the paintings that cover the walls. Their love is visible everywhere, you just don't hear them say it very often.
Callum/Elgar'nan
Callum and Elgar'nan both have physical touch as their love language, so combining the two together and they are almost always touching. Elgar'nan especially likes to have Callum in his lap or in his arms, and Callum adores having his arms around Elgar'nan's neck or laying on top of him. They drive everyone around them crazy because neither is bothered by PDA.
Renzo/Viago
Viago shows his affection through worrying lmao he's a fusser and it can get a bit overbearing at times. He also gives a lot of gifts because he knows Renzo didn't grow up with... anything really. And so giving Renzo things that are just for him? It makes him so happy to see how delighted Renzo gets with each one and he is such a good gifter I just know it.
Renzo primarily shows his love through acts of service. He's never had much to give for gifts so he wants to do things for people. He wants to take care of Viago and get him to relax and feel safe. He does his best and just wants to make Viago happy

4 & 10 for Ingellvar prompts(:
Thank you for giving me more chances to yap about Sabi <3
Prompts are from this post!
4. Did Rook enjoy their upbringing? Did they stay with whoever was raising them, or did they run away? Why?
Sabi didn't question her upbringing for the most part. She spent a lot of time around adults until she got into school (when her magic manifested, around age 10). Because of this, she never really considered that her "family life" was incredibly odd. She got to run around the Necropolis, play games with the wisps, read however much she wanted, and there were adults around to indulge her every question. What did she have to complain about? Once she got into school she began to gain perspective on how her experience was so very different- and that's the point she believes the loneliness began.
10. Does Rook have any special abilities related to the Necropolis or its spirits/undead? If so, did they always have it, or do they train to gain it? How do they feel about their abilities? Do others treat them differently because of them?
Since she has spent most of her life in the Necropolis, Sabi has a sort of…intrinsic attunement to spirits. She finds herself able to reach across the Veil more easily, and spirits are more likely to answer her calls. It's in part because she's spent so much time in places where the Veil is thin and spirits gather, but it's also a skill she built up over time. Her childhood involved a lot of interactions with spirits, so she understands the way they think and interact better than your average mage. This has been a boon to her magic, especially in the ways of spirit healing, as she is particularly attuned to spirits of hope and compassion. She's very proud of that skill and is rather prone to overusing it if it means she can help people. It's not incredibly unusual in the Mourn Watch so for most of her life it was treated as a matter of course- she was gifted and known throughout the Necropolis for it, but not in a way that was considered beyond imagining. For anyone outside of Nevarra, it's probably a little more…exotic and concerning.
This extends to her ability to hear Spite- faintly at first, and then clearly after Inner Demons is completed. She's always able to pick him out in a room, though only as a faint purple haze. His shape becomes clearer after Inner Demons as well.
#answered asks#rook questions#oc: sabriel ingellvar#look I know emmrich is supposed to be the fade expert and Spirits Guy#but I'm writing it as they still need him because his experience is a lot more developed than sabi's#she's still working on expertise and a lot of her skill is only applicable to her#also corpse whispering helpful and she DEFINITELY doesn't have that#I'm leaning into taash's comment about ingellvar's necromancy being more spirit stuff#and not corpse stuff#do I need to justify this? no#am I doing it anyway? yes#rook ingellvar#dragon age#veilguard

Was tagged by the lovely @seaglassmelody for this:
Rate your OC

Compassion: 8/10
A life dedicated to fighting tyranny and for the freedom of people.
Bitterness: 6/10 (pre-Veilguard), 3/10 (post-Veilguard)
Tevinter taught her walls. The Veilguard helped her take some down.
Happiness: 3/10 (pre-Veilguard), 8/10 (post-Veilguard)
She didn’t think she’d get joy again. Emmrich, Manfred, and the quiet steadiness of being loved proved otherwise.
Chivalry: 8/10
She’s no knight, but she always protects the vulnerable. She’ll take the hit if it means someone else doesn’t have to.
Pride: 5/10
She has pride in her skills, but pride in herself is harder.
Honesty: 5/10 (about herself), 9/10 (about everything else)
She’ll tell you the truth about the mission, the world, the risks. But ask her how she feels? Expect evasion, humor, or a soft “I’m fine.”
Bravery: 10/10
Terrified? Sure. Still goes in first. Every time.
Recklessness: 9/10
“I can handle it” — said moments before throwing herself into danger.
Ambition: 2/10
She doesn’t want glory. She wants peace—for others, if not herself.
Loyalty: 10/10
Once you’re hers, that’s it. She will not leave you behind.
Love: 10/10
Fierce, unwavering, and sometimes too quiet for others to notice—except Emmrich. He always notices.
Sense of Family: 3/10 (pre-Veilguard), 10/10 (post-Veilguard)
She never thought she’d have one. The Veilguard proved her wrong. Now she’d burn the world for them.
Attractiveness: 8/10
Scarred, sharp-eyed, and unintentionally magnetic when she forgets anyone is watching.
Agility: 9/10
Quick on her feet, swift with her blade. She’s a shadow until the moment she strikes.
Sex Drive: 2/10 (pre-Veilguard), 8/10 (post-Veilguard)
Turns out her little demi heart just needed the right soft-spoken, tender necromancer who connects deeply with her emotionally and mentally to make it sing.
