The sequence of events goes like this: Yuzu finds a busted up stray lure on the side of the road and takes it as a sign to go fishing. She arrives at the fishing area, rents a rod, ties the lure on, and proceeds to settle not in the one of many empty spots with space on either side, but directly beside one of the only other people there, some guy in a leather jacket and a shirt whose character she can't discern from this angle. No time to look closer at that right now, though. Fishing time. Rising from her seat, she does a few cursory swings back and forth with her rod like it's some sort of longsword, then whips it back and releases the line. It sails through the air, it hooks something--

Well, it's worth noting that the line has sailed backwards rather than forwards, and that the 'something' in question she hooks is a hefty tree branch about a dozen feet behind her. She pulls, pulls, pulls--and with it the branch whips back, back, back before finally it springs free, the lure twinkling overhead as its released from the pine in tandem with the distinct sound of wind whipping, then a weighty thwack of a pine branch connecting with an ill-fated group of passing bicyclists, whose leader is knocked cleanly off his bike, taking the rest down with him like dominoes.

"...Hm?" By the time Yuzu turns around to the source of the clamour, their spot in a heap on the pavement is obscured by the nearby shrubbery. "...Guess it was nothing." Turning back towards the pond, she reels in the now-limp line sprawled across the pavement. This time, she passes the fishing rod from hand to hand, plants one foot forward into a half-lunge, rears back, and throws out the line again. It sails through the air, it hooks something--

Well, it's worth noting that the line has sailed forwards this time at least, though it far surpasses the nearby pond, and the 'something' it hooks is hair this time--more specifically, the toupee of a nearby businessman who ducks into a taxi just as the voluminous rug is yanked off his head, and closes the door mere moments before he realizes what's happened. By then, it's too late. Yuzu reels in her catch with a powerful yank and catches the clump of hair in one hand like a prize bass. Briefly, she locks eyes with the newly-bald man with his face pressed to the glass of the window, but in a flash he's gone as the taxi driver speeds off.

"...Hm." Yuzu's head turns to watch the cab go until it's a blip on the horizon, an unreadable expression on her face. She looks at the wig. She looks to the neighbouring fisherman. She looks back to the wig, then slowly crouches down. Let's just not think about this for now... "Ahh... endangered species. Catch and release, catch and release..." With that, she lets it drift quietly into the water, watching it float further downstream until it, too, disappears from view.

Yuzu stands back up, rubbing at the back of her neck with a blank, thoughtful expression. In a low voice, she murmurs: "Comedy rule of threes... So, let's try one more time..." Holding the fishing rod overhead and rearing back, she winds up like a star pitcher about to make a throw. A concerned third party has but a moment, maybe two to intercept this before it spells certain disaster again.

The desert air was calm, still, hanging over them like a heavy blanket. It kept them standing in one spot in a languid embrace with slow caresses and lazy kisses. If Nai wasn't there for him to drape himself over Vash would no doubt be on the floor as his head swam and stars burst behind closed eyelids. It wasn't until after he licked past his brother's lips for the nth time that he felt the hold around him grow tighter. He uttered a muffled MMM into Nai's mouth as fingers gripped his hips and his eyes perked open upon feeling his back hit a wall. It made him bite down on those lips he was so tenderly tasting a moment ago. But he gripped back with an unapologetic "sorry" as he flicked his tongue against that reddened spot and wrapped a leg around his waist.

There aren't any pressing responsibilities to stress over for now, even though he's certain that Doctor Conrad would have something to complain about.

He'd grabbed onto Vash's wrist and took off running, like they were kids again- Laughing the whole way. It wasn't like he necessarily cared if anyone saw them, but that jealous and possessive side of his personality did prefer they had some privacy.

It felt like they had all the time in the world to just kiss, leaning into each other's space to share the air and taste of each other's lips. The subtle patterns glowing faintly along their skin seemed to resonate- Gently pulsing in time with the rising tempo of their heartbeats.

The bite didn't deter Knives at all, pulling back slightly to shake his head and smirk.

"I don't think I'm about to die, it's just a little blood-" he trailed off, humming against Vash's eager mouth and yanking the other blonde off his feet- Pinning him between the front of his torso and the wall.

"You're so pushy today..." he remarked affectionately, tasting his own blood on the other's tongue. Unlike human blood, theirs was pleasantly fragrant and sweet- slightly reminiscent of citrus with a subtle herbacious quality.

Give us the Yuzu meta 👀

//I intended to gather actual srcs for this but then Got Lazy because Yuzu isn't one of my muses, so y'all just gonna have to take me at my word. & I won't pretend some of this isn't headcanon, but I do my WORK on this shit so I'm fairly confident in my interpretation.

What really bothers me is people treat Yuzu like a passive maid when the opposite is true. If anything, she's the matriarch of the Kurosaki family. & like, don't get me wrong, she's a very sweet girl who loves her family very much. But I think the difference between a maid & matriarch is decision-making & caretaking (including shit like discipline), which she does.

Starting off, very early on in the manga, while Ichigo is explaining how his sisters responded to Masaki's death, he explains that Yuzu took up the mantle of cooking & cleaning. I think this is where people got the passive maid from, & just haven't dug any deeper than that.

During Hueco Mundo arc, Rukia stays with the Kurosaki family. Instead of staying in secret, Rukia asks the family to stay. During this, it's shown Isshin & Yuzu are the ones who welcome Rukia. If Ichigo had say in this, he could've just had Rukia stay over without Rukia having to invent a sob story. But neither he or Karin are involved in this decision. The only child who is involved is Yuzu. I believe this is evidence that Yuzu has more say in the family affairs than Karin or Ichigo.

I've seen this tidbit around saying that if someone in the family doesn't brush their teeth within a certain amount of time before &/or after eating a meal, they don't eat the next meal. I've had a hell of a time hunting it down though & just don't have the time to continue looking for it for the sake of (checks notes) tunglr rp. While I don't agree with the methodology, this is a common punishment where I'm from, & I can see why she would enforce it based on one of two (or the combination of) two hypotheses.

It could be argued that Yuzu is a very hygienic person & just doesn't want to smell swamp-breath, but I doubt it's the case.

Yuzu being the primary housekeeper would mean she would be more familiar with what groceries are needed. This means she's involved with errands. Additionally, it's common for Japanese kids to run shopping errands entirely unsupervised. A family friend saw it semi-frequently when he visited Japan. I know there have been other observations on it, but again, I won't be sourcing any of this as I usually do out of Sheer Laziness(tm). Point being, the combination of cultural mores & Yuzu's position as cook & housekeeper, it's not a leap of imagination she'd take care of groceries, as well as other errands. It's entirely feasible she has a say in the budget.

(This, of course, contributes evidence to her position as matriarch, but I'm going a slightly different direction with this.)

Now, I'm a homeowner. My husband takes care of the money & bills while I take care of the housekeeping. This works for us because our different brands of neurodivergency give us different strengths. I'm better at manual labor & he's better at smarty-pants things. While I do contribute to the budget, he's the one who draws up the logistics monthly, which means every month, we gotta make room for shit like good works, rainy day, our variety of subscriptions, insurance, doctor, optometry, dental, therapy, & psychiatry appointments, etc, & how we're gonna pull it off in the budget. Sometimes it's by the skin of our teeth!

Isshin is the sole provider of a home of four. Doctors ARE paid a lot, but a lot of people don't understand how much goes into a small business. My father-in-law owns his own lawfirm & in the early years, I've been told that there were times they were in the negative between payroll & business expenses. Whatever Isshin makes is probably stretched pretty thin between himself & three kids. If Yuzu has a hand in the budget, she would have, at minimum, a vague understanding they're cutting it pretty close with bills.

This makes me think that she enforces this rule & rules similar to it so they aren't hemorrhaging money on shit that's easily prevented.

Which brings me to the pinnacle of my point-- if she isn't the matriarch, why isn't Isshin, the patriarch, doing any of this shit?

I haven't examined Isshin closely enough to give answers on his character, so I don't know why. What I do know is given his largely standoffish approach towards parenting his children (I mean, he knows Ichigo is a shinigami, but lets the boy fight hollows at all times of night, despite having a curfew in place), it's given Yuzu the opportunity to fill those shoes following Masaki's death.

Tidbits about Yuzu ;

Yuzu is a young Yiga child - she's 12 years old, just a year too young to start training for her mask. She insists that she's ready, though none of the adults believe her.

Of the children, Yuzu is probably the most adventurous, frequently going out on her own and getting herself in trouble. She wields both shuriken and a bo-ken, her parents both having taught her basics with their own weapons.

Unlike the other Yiga, Yuzu is not a fan of bananas - she's actually allergic to them, breaking out in hives if she so much as touches them. Because of how much other Yiga love bananas, she often feels left out, like she can't be a true Yiga because of her allergy.

She's since chosen to find the next best yellow fruit to be her dedicated food - Shock Fruit have become her favorite, not just for the flavor, but how she can use them in fights.

with the appointment finished, yuzu finds herself being led to one of the springs' gardens, where murasaki said her 'present' was. she has no idea what to expect - especially from someone who doesn't know much about her yet. something that requires the help of someone else, apparently.

the inkling stands up to meet them, but all yuzu can look at is the creature behind them.

"you like him? his name's sandwich," the inkling smiles in amusement. "and i'm kona, from the rescue shelter. your uncle says you're gonna help take care of this little guy from now on, is that right?" that finally gets yuzu to snap her head upwards.

"ah, i... i guess so," she says sheepishly.

"you can go and meet him, it's okay," kona encourages, stepping aside to give them some space.

"he still needs to finish his obedience training since he's just a pup," kona continues. "your uncle says he can handle it, but i'd recommend tagging along so you'll know how to train him, too. if you ever need help with anything, you can also give me a call anytime." yuzu looks back at the two of them while letting sandwich sniff her hand.

"thank you, both of you," she says with a rare smile. kona gives her an assuring nod, though murasaki only looks away.

“You are going to tell me you still have a brother and family but didn’t visit them or tell them that you are still alive!!!! What is wrong with you? Why didn’t you tell me you have a brother?”

Yasuno stood up with a smirk before sighing.

“Its better they don’t know... after all I got reincarnated but I still died... why should I tell them if I have the chance to die again so quickly... gives them double the pain... how do you even know that?”

She looked at him a bit more calmer, understanding what he meant.

“I met this RSA student... Yuzuha was his name... and he talk about his family and mentioned your name...”

Yasuno blinked slightly and shook his head.

“Guess another thing I have to worry about... Yuzu... at least he didn’t end up at my school.”

Victoria helped him up. “I still think you deserve that kick but... I understand now... should I help you keep away from him.”

“No... maybe you are right and I should talk to him... at least him...”

It was surprising for her to actually see him this genuine with his feeling... on instinct she gave him a kiss on the cheek.

Damn that Yuzu, Ichigo was just letting Nel chill at his place but she had to go through all that extra effort, and put him in such a position now. Well then again, it was another opportunity for Nel to try more food so.

“Yeah, strawberries are pretty sweet. You should try one by itself, then one with cream and see which you’d prefer,” Ichigo suggested as he offered the plate to her. Then noticed there were fifteen of the strawberries, shaped like a heart too...
