I'm Mandy Vasquez-Wright, and when I was in high school I wanted to change my name to Blodwyn. My favorite color is purple or pink, and- Maybe say what you do for the OPN? Oh. ...Into the mic. I'm the intern for Relativistic Scheduling and Amanda's personal assistant. She deals with the temporal anomalies, and I figure out how to write them down for the case files in a way that uses tenses three dimensional beings can understand. I'm super stoked to meet you all and definitely not doing this because Jenny's been bugging me about it for months. Thanks Mandy! Acervo Adentro – Pina Contemporânea

Oi, junho!

Era meados de maio quando vi no site da Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo um formulário de inscrição para o Acervo Adentro, uma iniciativa da Biblioteca e Centro de Documentação e Pesquisa do museu (que tem três prédios e 120 anos de existência), instalado na Pina Contemporânea. Seriam 10 pessoas escolhidas para passar por uma imersão dentro de espaços que, geralmente, o público em geral só tem por agendamento (e que não vai ver tudo).

Como a gente fala aqui na periferia, “Meti o Loko”, e enviei minha ficha, justificando o trabalho que tô (tentando) fazer na pós, mas sem muitas esperanças.

Para o meu espanto, fui uma das contempladas a participar da atividade, que ocorreu no sábado, 31 de maio. Me despedi do mês com arte e inspiração.

É muito bonito ver como é feito o processo de catalogação, limpeza, restauro, consulta e, principalmente disponibilização de impressos pertencentes não apenas ao acervo de um museu, mas são nossos, são de nossa alçada e que muitas vezes um produto “tão pequeno”, como um zine, por exemplo, carrega tanta história, tanta memória.

Tive a oportunidade de ver de pertinho os pinceis, anotações e pente de Tarsila do Amaral (não vou publicar aqui as imagens, porque não quero vender o notebook velho para parcelar em 300 milhões de vezes o processo que vão dar, rs), além de espaços, prateleiras, publicações e até os uniformes dos funcionários, que ficam salvaguardados no local.

E ainda ganhamos presente, rs! Mas que presente maior foi esse, Brasil?!

“Pop Brasil: vanguarda e nova figuração, 1960-70”

Como cheguei cedo, deu para eu conferir o primeiro dia da exposição, que tem em seu escopo falar da Pop Art aqui no Brasil, bem numa época de ditadura militar e efervescência do movimento Hippie, o homem indo para a lua (há controvérsias, mas isso é outra história) e lembrar de movimentos importantes, como o show Opinião (1965).

“Pop Brasil” comemora ainda uma década do comodato da Coleção Roger Wright, que eu tive a oportunidade de ver essa exposição em 2022 (tenho o catálogo e tudo).

 Até o Cunha Jr, do programa Metrópolis (TV Cultura) esteve cobrindo o evento.

A exposição vai até outubro.

im not dyslexic but I have this strange persistent problem that pops up in lots of fibre arts

right side (RS) and wrong side (WS) are two very common terms across all crafts.

but for some reason my brain *constantly* goes "ah! R! rong side!" and "W! wright side!" and it. is not correct.

sometimes I even go "right side and rong side" just to be extra wrong

this is basically only time I get words confused

The images captured by Maxar on 21 September show a crater about 60 metres (200 feet) wide at the launch silo at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in northern Russia. They reveal extensive damage that was not visible in pictures taken earlier in the month.

The RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile is a key weapon in the modernisation of Russia’s nuclear arsenal. It is designed to strike targets thousands of miles away in the US or Europe, but its development has been dogged by delays and testing setbacks.

“By all indications, it was a failed test. It’s a big hole in the ground,” said Pavel Podvig, an analyst based in Geneva, who runs the Russian Nuclear Forces project. “There was a serious incident with the missile and the silo.”

Timothy Wright, research associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London, said the destruction of the area immediately surrounding the missile silo was suggestive of a failure soon after ignition.

LONDON (Reuters) -Russia appears to have suffered a "catastrophic failure" in a test of its Sarmat missile, a key weapon in the modernisation of its nuclear arsenal, according to arms experts who have analysed satellite images of the launch site.

The images captured by Maxar on Sept. 21 show a crater about 60 metres (200 feet) wide at the launch silo at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in northern Russia. They reveal extensive damage that was not visible in pictures taken earlier in the month.

The RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile is designed to deliver nuclear warheads to strike targets thousands of miles away in the United States or Europe, but its development has been dogged by delays and testing setbacks.

"By all indications, it was a failed test. It's a big hole in the ground," said Pavel Podvig, an analyst based in Geneva, who runs the Russian Nuclear Forces project. "There was a serious incident with the missile and the silo."

Timothy Wright, research associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London, said the destruction of the area immediately surrounding the missile silo was suggestive of a failure soon after ignition.

"One possible cause is that the first stage (booster) either failed to ignite properly or suffered from a catastrophic mechanical failure, causing the missile to fall back into or land closely adjacent to the silo and explode," he told Reuters.

James Acton, nuclear specialist at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, posted on X that the before-and-after satellite images were "very persuasive that there was a big explosion" and said he was convinced that a Sarmat test had failed.

The Kremlin referred questions on Sarmat to the defence ministry. The ministry did not respond to a Reuters request for comment and has made no announcements about planned Sarmat tests in recent days.

The U.S. and its allies are closely watching Russia's development of its nuclear arsenal at a time when the war in Ukraine has pushed tensions between Moscow and the West to the most dangerous point for more than 60 years.

Since the start of the conflict, President Vladimir Putin has said repeatedly that Russia has the biggest and most advanced nuclear arsenal in the world, and warned the West not to cross a threshold that could lead to nuclear war.

REPEATED SETBACKS

The 35-metre-long RS-28 Sarmat, known in the West as Satan II, has a range of 18,000 km (11,000 miles) and a launch weight of over 208 tonnes. Russian media say it can carry up to 16 independently targetable nuclear warheads as well as Avangard hypersonic glide vehicles, a new system that Putin has said is unmatched by Russia's enemies.

Russia had at one point said the Sarmat would be ready by 2018, replacing the Soviet-era SS-18, but the date for deployment has been repeatedly pushed back.

Putin said in October 2023 that Russia had almost completed work on the missile. His defence minister at the time, Sergei Shoigu, said it was set to form "the basis of Russia's ground-based strategic nuclear forces".

IISS analyst Wright said a test failure did not necessarily mean that the Sarmat programme was in jeopardy.

"However, this is the fourth successive test failure of Sarmat which at the very least will push back its already delayed introduction into service even further and at most might raise questions about the programme’s viability," he said.

Wright said the damage at Plesetsk - a test site surrounded by forest in the Arkhangelsk region, some 800 km (500 miles) north of Moscow - would also impact the Sarmat programme.

The delays would put pressure on the serviceability and readiness of the ageing SS-18s the Sarmat is meant to replace, as they will have to remain in service for longer than expected, Wright said.

Nikolai Sokov, a former Russian and Soviet arms control official, said he expected Moscow to persist with the Sarmat, a product of the Makeyev Rocket Design Bureau.

He said the Russian military had shown itself keen to preserve competition between rival designers and would therefore be reluctant to depend on Makeyev's rival, the Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology, as the single source of all missiles.

liked harper and knox, tho their rs development maybe wasn't the most convincing to me, but I could roll with it

thought isla would turn out to be a bigger baddie and cause more problems, especially with her whole <i>I'm Knox's anchor</i> delusions, that was an interesting line that didn't really get explored as much as I was hoping it would, and idk I guess that could be the blanket statement for this, cos overall I liked it, but also I wanted more? idk man

I just read the favor the other day and I definitely noticed some similar elements/character traits just planted into a supernatural / demonic world, I mean same author and all so wtv, and those were all stuff I enjoyed in the favor so I wasn't mad about having them here either

for some reason this was giving twilight on steroids? no I won't elaborate further

also wasn't really expecting this to turn into a political / election campaign sorta thing, but it was interesting so I ain't mad about it, it was just a tad bit unexpected lol

I'm excited to get on with the series and see more of H+K, especially now that they have established their feelings and rs

can't wait to get to Devon & Tanner, I loved both and I especially loved the way they were going at each other and the whole hellhound/hellcat thing? Mark me down as interested, v v interested (god I hope they live up to the hype)

khloe and keenan were OK, admittedly we don't know a whole lot about them, besides keenan being too fond of his drink and that khloe would never date an alcoholic (until ofc she would). I'm less hyped about double K than I am for T+D, but I'm planning on giving them a chance as of rn

Responsible, reflective and respectful – Lessons from the Lionesses

It is always a joy to have pupils back in school! I have enjoyed visiting a few lessons over the last couple of days and I am looking forward to the Shell Olympics tomorrow morning.

One of the highlights of my summer was watching the Lionesses as they finished runners-up in the World Cup. Of course, like an external exam, the World Cup finals were the culmination of many years’ hard work and practice.

I was particularly impressed with Sarina Wiegman, the Head Coach, in the way that she brought the team together. She had integrity throughout and this continued after the tournament. Within the team, the behaviour expectations and standards were clear. Everyone bought into what Wiegman was expecting, and they expected it of each other. Each player took responsibility for their actions and understood the role they needed to play.

Secondly, players were allowed to make mistakes and grow – a culture that said to try things out and to make mistakes in front of each other. They understood that set-backs are a part of life, and it is how we respond to these that helps us learn. This ability to reflect allowed the team to continue to develop and improve.

Finally, they remained humble and have frequently cited their gratitude for the many people who went before them to make their success a reality.

They may have lost the final, but there were many positives that we can take from their performance in the Euros last year and the World Cup this summer. The three values above are the same ones that I mentioned in my start of term letter. Being responsible, being reflective and being respectful are key ingredients to success and this will be a theme we will keep returning to this year.
