Tickets to Con

Y/N had nerdy friends, she just tended to me a little more nerdy. Her friends enjoyed things but didn't like to dress up or do cosplay, but Y/N loved it. She found so much joy in putting together a costume and attending cons to show off and meet people just like her. The only thing she disliked was always going alone.

She hoped this year would be different. She got tickets to a Star Trek con and tickets only came in pairs. She did not want to waste her money and have no one join her. So she asked all her friends, even her best friend Eddie. And they all said no.

She was devastated but refused to let that ruin her experience. She enjoyed doing her thing, even if it was alone. She worked on her cosplay for days, creating the perfect Troi outfit. She had everything pinned down to perfection, her hair, makeup, and outfit.

Y/N felt excitement fill her once she walked into the building. She took in everyone's costumes, everyone seemed to be with someone and she felt a little sad none of her friends came with her. She walked around, running to her favorite tables for signed autographs and pictures.

She was having so much fun that she barely noticed an hour passed. From all the running around, she felt like she was sweating through her costume, so she stepped outside for fresh air.

"Sir, I've already told you, you cannot go in without a ticket!" The sound of security was the first thing she heard when she stepped out. She didn't want to be caught up in the mess so she turned her back.

"Well, SIR, I already told you my friend has it and she's inside!"

That voice sounded really familiar. She scrunched her eyebrows as she turned around. She swore she felt her jaw smack the concrete.

Her best friend was standing there fighting with security in a perfect Riker cosplay matching her.

"Eddie?" she called out in shock

He looked to see where her voice came from and smiled when she came into view.

"SEE THAT'S HER!" he yelled

The guy turned around, "Is he with you?" the poor guard looked over it

"Yes," Y/N laughed, handing the guy the ticket. Eddie stuck out his tongue at him as he made it into the building.

"What are you doing here?" Y/N asked, excitedly throwing the boy into a bone-crushing hug.

"I couldn't let my favorite girl be here all alone," he said, accepting her hug.

She pulled away and Eddie swore he had never seen her smile so big. She shrugged off the way his words made her face burn. She always had a crush on Eddie but figured she was way too geeky for his taste.

"Well you are the best Riker I've seen here," Y/N said

"Yeah well, I am the best looking," Eddie shrugged with a teasing smirk

Y/N tried not to melt into the floor

"I did some research and apparently our two characters are sorta into each other, do we play as our characters or just dress as them? Because I am ready to fully commit to the romance," Eddie joked. Y/N hoped he couldn't hear how hard her heart was beating.

"PLAY!" she shouted, embarrassed as he laughed, "We definitely have to be into each other," she lied.

She felt like squeaking when his arm wrapped around her shoulder.

"Let's do this, baby"

The event went amazing with Eddie by her side. They even won Best Couple cosplay and got a small trophy then their picture was taken. Y/N happily carried the trophy to her car, placing it gently in the backseat.

"I can't believe I'm going to say this, but damn that was fun!" Eddie said, chuckling as he leaned against her car. She laughed as she shut the backdoor and moved to her driver's door.

"Can I count on you for next time?" she asked, Eddie couldn't help but smile as she smiled.

"Yes," he said with no hesitation

"Thank you for coming. I know it's not your thing but it means a lot," she said, giving him another hug. But this one was more soft and close.

Eddie didn't say anything but hugged her back. He slowly pulled away but kept his arms wrapped around. She felt nervous under his stare and shivered at how close they were.

She watched as he leaned in, his eyes flicking from her eyes to her lips. She held her breath as his lips drew closer to hers, and then his lips landed on hers.

She gladly kissed him back, trying not to show how eager she was that this was finally happening. She imagined this almost every night and it was never as good as this. His lips were soft and warm, and the way he had control over her made her stomach flutter.

She stared as he pulled away, he gave one last small kiss to her lips before he removed his arms from her.

"Goodnight, Y/N," he said with a smile

"Goodnight," she breathed out in awe, watching as he walked away

from aree: inspired by the latest collab genshin has with the Sanxingdui Museum (and the trailer for said event). (Slightly SAGAU just bcoz but can be read as a normal Reverse Isekai AU)

You're a security guard for the museum and you're out on your regular patrol for the night. All is quiet save for the tapping of your shoes on the marble floors and the jingle of keys hanging from your belt.

When you round the corner, you flinch. There's a man standing there, barefooted, just staring at the museum displays with curiosity. You accidentaly shine your light on him, unconsciously trying to get a better look at him and he turns to you.

Something about him was definitely off. He was wearing some kind of hooded robe. And... gloves? What else could they be? They reached from his shoulders to the very tips of his fingers, making his arms look brown like the very earth. Whatever gloves those were, they ran with veins of gold, making him glow under the museum darkness. But above all else, the most damning piece of evidence that he wasn't from around here were his golden eyes that almost seemed to glow brighter than the gold of his arms.

He definitely did not look like he belonged here, and yet, he looked like he was right at home in this very museum - if you said he was as ancient as the very displays, it felt like you'd be correct.

"You're not supposed to be around here right now." You say dumbly. What else were you supposed to say anyway? You're a security guard in a museum, your sole job was to kick people out past visiting hours.

His mouth ticks up at the corners, like you just said something funny. You would be offended at the thought of not being taken seriously while on the job, if you didn't think he suddenly looked more... human. The deadpan stare he had on earlier made him look too statuesque, too detached from everything.

"Then what say you would be the most apt time to pay a visit?" His voice is deep and melodious, almost intimidating if not for the playful lilt to his tone.

"Uh, 8:30 AM to 6 PM?" You rub the back of your neck, directing the flashlight to the museum entrance. The doors were firmly closed and locked. You can see him staring at you from the corner of your eye. "How did you even get in here...?"

He seems to think about your words, closing his eyes in thought. Without the glow of his eyes, you notice even the tips of his hair are golden. Maybe some kind of cosplayer? But by the looks of it, he seemed to move around too comfortable in his attire for it not to be every day wear. And his eyes didn't look like contact lenses. Finally, he opened his eyes, a mischievous glint to them.

"If I were to say I have arrived here through a dream, would you believe me?" His mouth forms a small smile and you blink at him.

"Guess you don't plan on telling me the truth," You sigh. "Fine then."

You tentatively touch the two-way radio on your belt. Should you call this in? Some guy in cosplay just found his way in and has no plans on telling you how he got here. You think you should tell someone. But...

"You are from here, correct?" He asks and you turn to him immediately. He really has a way of getting people's attention, especially with his voice. You nod at him. "Then might I ask you to tell me of what these statues mean?"

Huh. Now that you thought about it, he was looking at the displays when you first saw him, too. Maybe he'll cooperate easily with you if you tell him a couple of things about the museum. You should really tell someone, but at the same time-

You feel like the moment you tell someone else, he'd disappear from your view. You must be going mad.

"Follow me, then." You're no tour guide, but you do know of the things they speak of. So you repeat what you hear during the day.

You tell the golden-eyed man about the remains of the ancient Shu Kingdom four thousand years ago. You tell him of 50,000 artifacts unearthed in the ruins. He asks questions about the Bronze Age, of their masks and artworks, and you answer best you can while reading the displays.

Finally, you reach a corner where the fire exit is. He stops beside you.

"Sorry about this. But not gonna lie, I've let you stay long enough," you sigh.

He shakes his head and smiles softly. "You have done more than enough. I thank you for letting me see your world."

Your world? Odd choice of words. But if he really wasn't from here, then you guess in a sense this is a bit of your world.

"Just go past these doors and they'll lead you straight out the building. Do I need to escort you out?" He shakes his head and you open the door for him.

He passes through, but stops just before passing you. "May we meet again, Overseer."

"That's not really my name. Also I hope you wouldn't come back like this." You tell him your name, but he merely whispers it and smiles. "Oh, right, I forgot to ask yours."

He opens his mouth before closing it and shaking his head. "I fear that if I tell you my name, we will never see each other again. As such, I promise to tell you the next time we meet."

This guy gets weirder by the minute, but atleast your meeting was ending. "Just make sure to come back during visiting hours, alright? I don't wanna lose my job."

You close the door behind him, but just as you do, smoke and golden light slips past the cracks of the door. With a yelp, you throw the door open, expecting a fire, but there's nothing.

No robed man, no fire. Just the remains of a mist.

Maybe he was right.

Maybe you were dreaming.

You think it's a dream. Not until by the next night, you find the same man. Same golden eyes, in armor of brown and gold.

He looks to you and offers another smile.

And he tells you his name.

So I've seen some people talk about how Belos ruined the human Realm for Hunter by possessing him and killing Flapjack and that's why he was ready to go back to the Demon Realm, but honestly I take a slightly different interpretation.

Having grown up in an abusive home that I managed to escape from the scene rang with extreme familiarity and felt like it was depicting what happens if you reach a turning point and and are able to find the strength to fight back against your abuser. (Which is great to see in kid's media, love it, it's so encouraging wrt to your *right* to think your abuser is jackass.)

I mean at the end of the day, Belos had already "ruined" the Demon Realm, too. It was the place where Hunter was abused and manipulated. People have pointed out in some meta that he talks about "that throne room" the way abuse victims talk about "that house" when talking about where they were abused. Because that throne room was where he emotionally abused and if the implications about physical abuse are right, it's where he was likely physically abused as well, because of the privacy there.

We see the throne room is the private place where Hunter is expected to drop to a knee and bow before him, and to stay mostly still even as Belos nearly strikes his face. It's the place where sometimes it's only Hunter and Belos, where he's free to hurt him all he wants, with words or blows.

That said, I do think the human world was very good for him and definitely a revelation. It was a place where the nearest adult, Camila, was kind and nurturing and willing to take on parenting a whole gaggle of kids, constantly trying to figure out what's best for them (hence the trying to figure out where to find apple blood and their diets, etc).

It was safe for him to take up soft, non-combat hobbies useless to being a Coven guard like sewing (gently taught to him by Camila, a kind adult) to pick up nerdy interests like cosplay and basically being a Trekkie, and to wear comfy sweaters (and crocs!) instead of things with utility or decorum.

The human world being a place without Belos made him feel safe enough to be a normal teen. Openly. Not in secret, talking to online friends on Penstagram on his Scroll where Belos couldn't see (a hugely accurate thing for a lot of abuse victims, online friends being a lifeline).

But unfortunately Belos was there, and alive, and as long as Belos is alive he's going to try to hurt Hunter, his home realm, Hunter's loved ones, and their loved ones.

After Flapjack dies the worst has happened. Belos came after him. Again. He literally controlled his body itself, and bored his way under his skin. Given he was consuming the flesh of animals and how he was back to full size after leaving Hunter, and Hunter was injured in the spots where he was goo, and needed to be healed, he possibly even dissolved and consumed some of his body.

And he killed his first friend - and lbr his best friend. With Hunter's own hands.

But the thing that makes it not just about something bad happening on Earth is that he still clearly loves parts of his home realm. There are things there he's always wanted that he still wants to have and tells Belos as such. Being a normal student at Hexside. Flyer derby with his friends. Learning about wild magic and Palismen-carving. He still calls it "home" probably in part for all the things there that he wanted to have growing up that Belos wouldn't let him. Things he's ready to fight for.

He loves things in both worlds, and Belos is clearly a threat in both worlds - a threat Hunter finally managed to resist. And even though Flapjack died, Hunter's still alive to fight because of his sacrifice.

He's ready to fight to make Belos pay for his deceit, abuse, and forced isolation; for trying to kill his world on the Day of Unity; for attacking his friends; and for his Palisman's murder.

It doesn't seem like he's leaving the human world because it's ruined, it comes off more like he's finally overcome his fear enough to go back to reclaim the world where he was abused because it's the home of his friends and because of all the good in it he always wanted to have. It's time to go home and make it safe enough to be home.

Yes, he looks exhausted, but he's the first one to go through after Belos, which is pretty fearless. It doesn't read like defeat, it reads like he's ready to walk through the portal and send an old man straight to hell.

Boston giving Sand the Reality Check he needed Part 1 of 2: Boston's Reasoning

This is my thoughts on Boston and Ray's fallout, how and why it came about and how Sand did really need it - which I start talking about in this meta - even though despite Boston's insistence his purpose was never to help Sand. I didn't mean to make this two parts but I started writing the Boston portion of the meta and it turned into what it did kajsfhsdkjfh and I needed to approach Sand and Ray's portion a little more seriously. Without further ado, here goes:

[SCENE START] Imagine you are Boston, the son of a politician, loaded with money but not a lot of visibility or acceptance (I mean if you watch enough Thai dramas you know what politician is code for - corruption, deception, selfishness, entitlement). You are extremely entitled, extremely guarded and extremely unscrupulous and this is what you've been taught life is, what successful, powerful people are like and you are successful and powerful even though things have not quite been going your way recently. Even though earlier on in the day you had your first human emotion:

(give the boy a break he is starting to figure out why people have boyfriends okay? much less that he also kind of wants one??? the emotional TOLL he is under oh boy)

and on top of all that suddenly you have been called for emotional support??? Mew is supposed to call Ray this is very much not your job!!! Can Mew's virgin ass please get over one stupid kiss already???

So Mew has called you and he is THE LAST person you ever want to help with THE LAST problem you've ever wanted to help him with. But you squeeze down the sting of rejection, the inferiority you feel from it - are you perhaps?? not as successful and powerful as you thought??? - and you try to be a normal, human person for A SECOND TIME in ONE day (!!!!) and be a good friend

And you did such a good job!!! You didn't play into his insecurities or try to ruin it for him - even though you wanted to!!! - because at the end of the day Mew is your friend and you know how important his virginity is to him. And now you are ready for some MUCH NEEDED REST from all that decent human being cosplay that you've been doing. And there is a cute guy who likes you and he has an apartment where you can go and fuck him and even though the day is ruined there is still chance for the night to recover but uh oh!!!! What's that???

A Situation You Do Not Understand!!!!! Involving the man who fucked up being manipulated so badly that you had to do 5 seconds of emotional labor earlier that day. Now, you have a choice as an adult to mind your business and walk away into that promised room of fucking that cute guy you were going to fuck. But you are also The Son of a Politician and if there is one thing you know it's that information is power and the instinct to meddle like a 70 year old auntie is slowly overtaking your senses. And so you ask a seemingly innocent question with auntie-adjacent straightforwardness:

And your hot mess of a best friend comes up with the shadiest, juiciest answer while his partner is looking at him like his soul is leaving his body:

On top of that there is weed????? In the form of a delicious looking cookie?????? At this point you are on a missive FROM GOD to find out What The Fuck is Going On.

And what the fuck IS going on?????

An absolute bonkers situation is unfolding, Ray somehow in the mess of his life and his unrequited feelings for Mew is living some romcom with the cute bar singer! Ray!!! The alcoholic!!!!! the one friend you could always count on to make you feel better about the mess that is your life. The one friend you will always be superior to - THAT RAY???

And to make matters worse!!! The cute guy you're with Knows Everything. You have been so busy squeezing out three drops of human emotions because you want to keep the Cute Guy You Kind Of Sort Of Might Like around that you forgot to get around to the 'so do you know any gossip' portion of the casual fucking programming.

Not only are you fucking up your duties to the Politicians' Son Upbringing but the dormant auntie inside you gets another whiff of that fat, juicy gossip as Ray pulls a second 'We Are Just Friends' after you JUST witnessed Sand feed him an edible WITH HIS MOUTH

And you're not trying to stir shit - promise!!! - you just want to see your alcoholic friend stutter and get awkward, put in his place a little bit because Mew might have you beat but there's no way that this flaming hot mess has you beat.

Except!!! UH OH!!!! Ray is an idiot! He is so in wanting of love and finding himself undeserving of it that he has genuinely Not Noticed that the man next to him is In Love With Him. He is not you!! - acutely aware of how his cute guy is in love with him - he is Discovering That Sand Likes Him and somehow you have been duped into helping????

Sand's soul is back in his body and they are somehow Being Worse than before. But your Help A Friend Quota is OUT! You have spent IT ALL on Mew earlier and You. Are. Done. Only one person is allowed to cosplay a decent human being tonight and BY GOD it will not be Ray! The only thing left to do is To Bring Out The Gasoline.

And So? You Do.

I am a renfaire, dnd, high fantasy nerd. I haven't read all the classic high fantasy books, but I love dnd, and when I can't make it to the ren faire for a season I get really upset (Im planning on going next saturday :D ) And I have thoughts on what eggs/ certain parents would wear to a ren faire, so indulge me for a bit. I'll start with Tallulah/Death family since she won the QSMP 'which egg would' poll (Hi im the one that submitted it :P)

Tallulah would totally wear the classic lace up loose front dress in purple like she's wearing in the lovely edit by 'qsmp where they shouldn't be'. I imagine that she is wearing black flats and still has the mushroom hat. Fully embracing the cottage core vibes.

Chayanne I think would be casual. like a loose white shirt, comfortable pants and a colored over shirt to go over the long sleeved white one. either that or techno cosplay (something I actually saw at a renfaire a few years ago and it was super cool)

I think Phil and Missa would also go in costume, but a similar chill vibe to Chayanne. nothing too fancy. Phil would have a green long sleeved loose shirt with black accents, and Missa would have a similar one but in purple. Phil would have the Robin Hood style hat with a Crow feather in it, while I think Missa would still rock the skull mask.

Now Morning crew >:) (I have so many thoughts)

Sunny and Em would be the reason almost everyone goes in the first place. (mostly Sunny)

Sunny would insist on going in a full orange princess dress with a crown to match, She would like it to be floor length but renfaire is outside and as much as she likes working with her pa, she doesn't want her dress to get ruined so it's just off the ground.

Em similar to Tallulah goes full cottage core. A light pink and tan dress, with some small fairy wings for fun. she decorates her hair with fake flowers and leaves.

Richas would go full fantasy. He would rock up looking as much like a dragon has he could. Painted and made it himself (with some help but mostly himself)

(All three of them beg for face paint when they see it. Sunny gets another crown on her forehead (cause you can never have too many crowns) and Em would get an owl on her cheek, and Richas would get a dragon.)

Ramon would go as a knight, simply cause Sunny asked. Not the full thing, but he has the sword and shield, along with a (fake, like a plastic or something) chain mail shirt, that ends around where a T-shirt would.

Fit would also go as a knight because he's Sunny's body guard. He has a bit more of the heavy gear, having his chain shirt go to his elbows, and be made out of a light metal. He also has the sword and shield matching with Ramon. He would still sport the green cape scarf thing. (Also this man would hunt down the turkey leg stand and get two to slit with the group.)

Pac would be super excited to go at the first mention, and immediately run to his closet to grab an outfit. He would wear a long blue shirt with black pants and boots. For props he would have a hip quiver and a bow.

Tubbo would be really reluctant at first, but eventually decided to go. He would fully put sunny in charge of his outfit. He would get a long kings cape and a crown (a princess's dad *has* to be a king) He would also get the white under shirt treatment, but he would also just wear his tennis shoes. (Upon arrival he would immediately get jealous of all the steam punk people walking around but not want to disappoint sunny. He promised himself that next year he would make the coolest steam punk outfit and put everyone else to shame)

Bagi would have long white underdress with a forest green over skirt. The sleeves would be off the shoulder, and she would have a belt with a knife sheath cause you can never not be prepared. Her hair would be in a half up half down style the 'half up' being a braid.

Mike goes wearing his normal clothes, but richas convinces him to get his face painted, so he gets the same dragon design as Richas.

Bad and Dapper go in full plague doctor gear and you can't tell me im wrong. They would walk around and tell people plague facts like they were there and try to heal people from it. If you let them they would give you some poesy to put in your pocket to keep the illness at bay.

Feel free to add your own ideas, these are just the ones that came to mind immediately. or make up stories for what they would do at the renfaire, anything I'm so here for it.

My take on StoryShift

I'll probably do individual designs and info but the basics are

Napstablook and Mettaton were humans. That fell into the underground together and perished when trying to merge their souls to help escape to the surface. Napstablook was reborn as Echo the Echo Flower. And Mettaton is a Spectre that guides you (also has prosthetic limb)

Papyrus is the guardian of the Icy Ruins. He is friendly and sort of the cool uncle type. He was the kings brother and advisor but went to the Ruins to make friends.

Chara is not really human but not really monster either. They're a mischievous prankster and love messing with people. They also really love chocolate specifically dark chocolate. They hide their true face behind an eerie mask

Asriel is training to be in the Royal Guard. He doesn't actually care about being in the Royal Guard but wants to impress his mother. His true passion is crafts. He feels like a failure because he doesn't meet his mother's expectations

Toriel is the strict captain of the Royal Guard. She's hard on her kids but doesn't realize how much it hurts them. She's a tired grouchy old lady and should probably retire soon. Few people see her caring motherly side

Asgore is the Royal Scientist. He's more of a botanist and all the amalgamates are plant themed now. He's goofy and clumsy dad and sadly doesn't have much time for his family though he loves them dearly. He created Undynes robot body with the help of Sans and Papyrus a few years back

Undyne was injured while in training to join the royal guard and her soul was preserved in a robot body. She became a professional wrestler. Specifically a luchador. She hungers for a real fight

Alphys is a spooky Japanese Hopping Zombie. Is she a ghost or is it just cosplay? She'll never tell. She's shy and timid so she hangs out in the Icy Ruins though she can't stay long due to being cold blooded

Sans is the lazy king of the underground. He's usually sleeping and thanks to his big fluffy cloak he can fall asleep standing up. He doesn't like fighting and would rather laze about......but he made a promise to his kingdom....and he hates breaking promises

HELLO

I have long wanted to wear the Royal guard uniform. Who wouldn’t? It is formal and snazzy. However, I knew I’d have to make my own.

Then one of my cosplay buds decided it would be fun to get surprise married at a con, especially if everyone was wear their formal garb version of their character and I was like this is the time.

It is a challenging build. I am making boot covers and gloves which are both sort of terrifying in their way, so I’m still in the mull it over stage on those, though I did make my boot patterns. I also made the black turtleneck and a pair of leggings for this endeavor.

As of today, I have a beret! The first version of the beret had a mistake in it and I accidentally ruined the beret in trying to fix it, so version 1 is going to live in my craft room. Version 2 came out better.

This isn’t the wig I’ll wear with this, but it is the correct color.

I also made the front of the doublet tonight! I am using wool to make this- it made sense to me in universe as it’s a formal military uniform and like…velvet seems to be an odd choice for that. So it’s wool, with linen as the lining. The beret is the same.

I am planning on putting the back of the doublet together tomorrow- it will include my first zipper installation! I also need to experiment with interfacing this gold metallic I’m using as an appliqué for the tabard.

My stretch goal? A halberd with thunder gleeok horns for this- everyone seems to pair this uniform with a halberd. And a talus heart to fuse to my shield. Though this with the meat shield seems extra funny

Anime Magic 2023: Sunday

So I never got around to writing up Sunday. Pregnancy has a way of making you forget things, and then being a new parent...anyway, it's been actual months. But let's see what I can remember, shall we?

Sunday started with breakfast, packing, and cleaning the room. Spoiler: we did not win. We did a walk around the gaming and exhibit areas again, for those last-minute cosplay photos, seeing if any of the machines had Magical Drop (I can't remember), and of course, last-minute impulse buys. Then it was time to find the panel room that held all of our Sunday panels - the Special Guest Room. Which just felt sort of tucked out-of-the-way in a hallway not far from the Main Events stage, but not super populated or trafficked.

Our first panel of the day was "That Doesn't Work How You Think It Does: Cosplay Supply (Mis)use with Pros & Cons Cosplay"

I remember being very entertained during this panel and finding it highly informative. But since I'm doing this Sunday August 2023 writeup in May of 2024, I can't add more than that. Really, I'm doing this in part to ward off the "missing ACen" blues, as unless there's a last-minute lottery win or something, we won't be attending even a single day of ACen 2024. Being a parent is a big responsibility and has been an incredible joy, but it also means tightening the belt a bit and so it may be some time before @lechevaliermalfet and I do big cons again. We're probably sticking closer to home with the smaller stuff for at least the next 6 months, likely longer.

We followed up this panel with Oriana's Sailor Moon panel. In which Sailor Moon was lovingly roasted. And I do mean lovingly - none of this was done from spite. It was just fans acknowledging the quirks of their chosen thing.

I'm pretty sure there were some technical difficulties during all the panels in this room, whether they were screen issues, mic issues, or whatever. But I could be just inserting that into my memory because of the fact Anime Magic has been known to have tech issues. I'm too lazy to try to search my posts in the ACen discord to verify (the AM one didn't exist yet during the 2023 con, so lots of us were posting about it in the ACen "Other Events" channel in their discord).

And finally, we wrapped with Cosplay Horror Stories, again with Pros & Cons Cosplay.

I do remember sharing the story of accidentally ruining @shbumi ' s cosplay during our first ACen in this panel. I also don't remember if it was this panel or their first panel on Sunday in which my experience as a Security guard came to play, because I can't remember the story that prompted me to share the knowledge that using spray paint indoors can set off a building's fire alarms. But yes, folks, that can happen. Not totally ready to say goodbye as yet - and I'm going to guess because I knew that this was probably going to be my last big con for a while - it seems we wandered a bit more, as I have photos of that empty Sunday feel. It really is a lonesome feeling as a con empties out, especially in this space, when I've seen it so packed before, for so many other cons.

But there is my far too overdue post to wrap up Anime Magic 2023.

Day 3: Gus Porter

Gus being younger than most of the school, yet being one of the smartest, most talented students in Hexside. I'm glad he had his own episode that got most of the spotlight, Labyrinth Runners, and it became one of the most well-received episodes in the show.

Gus is not just a smart person. He's exceptionally talented. We're talking about a student who paid half his attention in class, sometimes even zero attention, while still getting through all the class with ease as a younger student. He managed to be in the same class with older students, handled the situation in Through The Looking Glass Ruins, and of course, beating Adrian, a freaking coven head, in Labyrinth Runners. But he's not always that way. He's not very confident about his power, even at one point wanting to ditch Illusion for another coven, only to master Illusion even harder to beat the Illusion coven head.

Gus is also not really confident surrounding himself with older students, but he found another student who also was not fond of the people in school. Willow and Gus' first interaction is really nice. Willow was like Gus' older sister in school, Willow's first interaction was to help Gus, and Gus had to remind her to take care of herself during her breakdown in For The Future. In a place where both can't seem to get along with anyone, they got each other, and from there built their friend group even further.

His relationship with Luz is really interesting. Back when Gus was really obsessed with researching humans, Luz's appearance to him is valuable, as he has someone who can give him knowledge about the human world. But after Something Ventured, Something Framed, they have bonded so well. No longer just an embassy to the human world, Luz now is a great friend to Gus, ready to help each other. And I'm glad Gus is no longer the leader of the Human Appreciation Society, as he had more things to do together with Luz.

Gus is the 3rd Hexside student who knows who's behind the Golden Guard face, and he quickly became Hunter's buddy. Labyrinth Runners had done so much for Gus, as it explored one of the main characters of the show, and one of its achievements is the first time Hunter and Gus fighting side by side. Gus contributed a lot to changing Hunter to Hexside's side, befriending him, and then introducing him to Cosmic Frontier. The two boys spent their time in the human realm with Camila's favourite comic, and even cosplayed as the characters, ready to go fight tooth and nail against Belos.

Gus' palisman Emmiline is awesome. A chameleon who matched with him because he wanted to be an ambassador, what a duo. With the nature of chameleon being able to blend in any environment they need to, Emmiline will be a really good sidekick to this incredibly talented boy.

Overall, Gus is one of the coolest characters in the show. He's incredible, he's a fighter, a peacemaker, and a successful student/MC/journalist. With the new trailer of Watching and Dreaming, I'm hoping to see him using all his best for the final fight.

I'll be honest, the Mahogany Gym is barely worth mentioning. The Ice Typing could be trouble for our Grass types, but with Pryce dual typing water and ground, it's a cakewalk. Dewgong Scares us for a minute with a Rest/Sleeptalk combo, but ultimately we win in one shot here.

Now, however, we need to deal with Team Rocket again since they've apparently decided to get into the radio business, and trust me, no one wants to hear their music for more than like, five minutes at a time We manage to snag a clever disguise and nearly get past the Rocket Guard scott free until... Silver shows up and rips off my disguise! I mean, read the room dude!

Thankfully the Grunt is no actual trouble. We beat them and then Silver just walks off like he didn't just RUIN A PERFECTLY GOOD PLAN!!! Swear this guy's Quillava has all the brain cells.

Now without a disguise, we must go through the radio tower and fight the grunts within. Petrel is upstairs cosplaying as the director and he winds up giving us some trouble, mostly because Hidden Power is low on PP and this guy's got a lot of Koffing. Jorinda does get knocked out, but Joringel is able to clear up in the end, earning us the basement key.

In this dream I was in a building full of people. It was some sort of exhibition or con for a piece of media that doesn't exist irl. I was a big fan of this media and I'd already been to this event at least once before.

There was a kid in their mid-late teens, I don't remember what they did but I thought they were kind of an ass. That was until they recognized me as the person they collabed with last year during the event, and they showed me the drawing we made together. We instantly bonded and became best friends

The kid had messy orange-blonde hair

At some point some guys attacked and took everyone inside hostage. I can't remember exactly what happened but at least I managed to escape, dunno about everyone else

Then I wanted to closet-cosplay Lychee for some reason. At first I chose clothes that had nothing to do with them at all and I was still disappointed that I didn't look like them. So then I went searching for a long sleeved black shirt I needed to wear under an unbuttoned purple dress shirt (note: I'd wear this irl, but that purple shirt wasn't like the one I have in the waking world. In the dream I had two purple dress shirts)

I couldn't find the shirt no matter how hard I looked, I even had like a figurine display that was holographic and showed all the clothes I have, and it wasn't there, which apparently meant that I accidentally deleted it when I was deleting clothes I don't need?? So uh cosplay ruined

Then I was watching a friend play a game about a supermarket. My POV was the game itself without players or UI, but I still have a vague idea of what this friend looked like. I think she was black with voluminous hair and she wore a white short sleeved shirt with red accents. The game was a PC game. I was backseat gaming - more like relentlessly making fun of my friend for being bad at it - from over my friend's shoulder. Oh, the game had low poly models and somewhat pasted/muted colors

In the game you had to run around and collect things like water bottles. Very fun /s

But idk if the game was very poorly design or if my friend was the worst gamer ever, but she kept bumping into stuff and people?? Eventually she decided that playing poorly is funnier and started going at full speed running over people and knocking things over. It was very funny tbh

Uhh the supermarket had security guards. And we only found out when they started chasing us for killing multiple people with a shopping cart. Oops?

Naturally, the funniest thing we could do was run from the supermarket, for some reason an entire city was modeled, and there were a bunch of other shops that you could buy stuff from as well. This scene seemed familiar from a different dream but idk.

One of the stores had a warm color scheme, idk what they sold. Another one sold magazines, I think it was closed?

My friend eventually got to a candy store, we were no longer being chased. Sometime during the escape sequence we stopped being chased and it was no longer a game, so it was me who lived through this last part.

I saw something that looked like Nerds but they had weird drawings on the packet. Oh also they came in those thick plastic packets. I chose a purple packet that had a beard made of Nerds in the picture because it was supposed to make you grow a Nerds beard and that was somehow desirable??

I took it and when I turned around I was in my parking lot. I had a dog that approached me and I gave it One (1) piece of candy and it immediately got sick, so I took another packet of Nerds that was an antidote for animals that got poisoned by eating Nerds.

I went inside and with the help of my family I cooked Nerd-antidote-based meals for the dog?? Like they looked like something you'd eat at a restaurant. One of those meals was something like... 2 different creams of different colors inside a ball of raw dough??

I took them outside and the dog ate the antidote, and my cat (who was half the size he is irl) and the local outdoors cat (who was double the size she is irl) shared another meal

2) Do you like playing with mods?

Not usually no, but rn I'm playing Wind Waker with that really cute girl link mod, which is the only good method of playing that game and I will never play a Zelda game ever again without.

3) Do you like to get 100% achievements?

When a game is good then that's a lot of fun, so yes, but depending on how much work it is I will also often just not^^

uhhh, I started playing Yomawari with the first game and while the second had a much gayer story the first one was more fun to 100%, and it definitely was a good starting point^^

Spiritfarer, I tried it twice now but the game starts becoming a slog with so much less interesting characters and soooooo much more busywork midway through it's kind of very difficult. (at least it's a lot of busywork for people with my kind of must do as much as possible autism)

23) A game ending that’s really stuck with you

The way the sense of achievement resonates with its story just burned Celeste's ending into my brain despite the fact that arguably not much happens in it.

Never played a sonic game, so Mario^^

Kind of multiple, I often have one I play myself, while there's one I stream for my gf, plus some others on-hold.

Fun to watch sometimes, not fun to play. Also much prefer like challenge runs that aren't speed based? They're usually more interesting in the ways they break games.

41) Best game currently on the market?

What does this mean 'currently'? Steam sells most games all the time. And what they don't (or even if depending) you buy for the price of waving a pirate flag.

In any case it's Celeste^^ As for games that came out this year it's Rusted Moss^^

The only connection I have to cosplay is that I could imagine going to an anime convention in a maid outfit if I had some guy or butch lesbian I trust to come with as a body guard.

The experience has been amazing. it always makes big views and has a lot of people coming up to take pictures at the events I take it to. My socials have been getting crazy traction since I started posting a build process for it. There are some really dedicated people in the community and it just brings me joy that other people love what I do. Other than that it's really opened my door to more opportunities with people in the community that I'd never imagined I'd be friends with, let alone talk to. 

From my small viewport on the Ruin Guard, most of the con-goers were just in awe that a 10ft tall costume was standing in front of them, let alone sometimes walking in front of them. Even with the amount of space I had at A-kon, I had to show off the Ruin Guard's signature spin. almost every time I'd hear the group of people wow in amazement. The main challenge was scale. I have 3 main principles: Accuracy, Scale and Uniqueness. so i had to make it big. I had a small room while building it and it got so big that on some days it had to lay on my bed.

The first one is a bit of the reason I hauled the Ruin Guard 6 hours to Dallas. I knew the Eng VAs for Genshin were going to be there, and I managed to meet them and record some videos and take some pictures. I couldn't believe that the actual talent for the game were acknowledging my work, I almost teared up inside the costume.

The next one, I'm going to sound like an awful person, but once in a while I'd scare a person or two while cosplaying. Makes me happy that I'm roleplaying the Ruin Guard which is supposed to strike fear due to its size.

Another challenge was making it spin like it does in game. I had come up with multiple sketches and ideas on how I was going to accomplish it. At one point I was going to purchase a large lazy susan wheel that would have jacked the price up to $70-ish dollars, but decided I can do it for cheaper.

In the junior year of high school, I started getting fully into anime and heard about this convention. After going, a lot of the time I was just excited naming out all the characters being cosplayed. So the next event I decided to cosplay myself. The unfortunate thing was that no-one was selling the cosplay I wanted, which was my Warlock from the game, Destiny.

It was a hodge-podge of cardboard, EVA foam, cardstock and a mass produced Assassin's Creed hood, but that's when it all started. Over time, I keep taking on more difficult and diverse characters that test my skills in crafting and a bit of engineering.

I want to keep getting better at what I'm doing and expand my skill set at the same time: 3D modeling on Blender, playing around with servos and LEDs on Arduinos, Airbrush painting just to name a few things.

On top of that, I take commissions and make cosplay pieces and props for other people, some say I might be able to make a living out of this but I've yet to see it myself. But at the end of the day, I'm just a guy that enjoys crafting and to amaze other people with my craft is why I enjoy cosplay so much.
