The new cats!! Again!! Yeah uh, so since I did the new kits/apprentices in The Elder's Quest before information about all their parents came out, I felt I should revisit the ones that needed adjustments. Myrtle and Flip's kits didn't seem to need any changes, and the rest of them we knew their parents right from the get-go, so they're fine. First up is Moonpaw and The Voice! Voice is probably gonna get a proper name in the next book, making this slightly obsolete but idc anymore. I wasn't completely satisfied with Moonpaw's first design, so I kept chipping away at it and eventually came up with this. Orange on the body got simplified, black stayed mostly the same. A lot more moon imagery! I think her crescent moon ear tufts kinda look like antenna lol, but it's fitting. Voicepaw was going to be in the ref with Moonpaw but I ran outta room. She's spiky, like the star to her sister's moon. This is like the only time you're gonna see pure white on a character's design, and even now technically it isn't "white" it's just transparency. After, Heronkit and Eelkit; Heronkit got the arm thingy and a curled tail from her father, and Eelkit is the same, I like his design too much to change it rn <3. Then Rustlekit and Stretchkit; Rustlekit got eyelash markings from his father, and Stretchkit got the hair tuft thingys from her father's side, they show up on Whistle too. I also reworked the "white markings" on her face. Then Silkypaw and Fluffpaw, no -y on Fluffpaw!!, the dark paws are from their father, and the chest markings from their mother. I tried to make Silkypaw look a bit like his maternal aunt Swallowtail. I think Fluffpaw looks like a chipmunk here lol. Finally is Redpaw and Sprucepaw! A lot of Redpaw is the same, the tail and legs markings come from his mother, as well as the ear spots. I was aiming for an amber eye color but landed on that bright red instead and thought 'hey this looks good'. Sprucepaw gave me some trouble in the planning stages of the design, in the end I just sorta winged it and I quite like how it turned out. She's got a tooth gap :) The spiky pattern of the light on her face comes from her father, and on her body from Dove, her grandmother.

Myrtlebloom's mate is Flipclaw instead of Shellfur

Fluffpaw and Silkypaw are Emberfoot and Sedgewhisker's

Graysky is Floatshimmer's mate and the father of Heronkit and Eelkit

Flutterfoot is Appleshine's mate and the father of Stretchkit and Rustlekit

I'd be interested to see your genetically accurate headcanons for Oatclaw and Feathertail's kits :D they're some of my favorite characters (Whistlebreeze's big caring family my beloved <3) and there's also so many different colors among the kits, it could be fun to learn how that would work and which patterns are realistic. :)

So we have the following characters here:

Oatclaw: pale brown tabby

Featherpelt: gray tabby

Whistlebreeze: gray tabby

Flutterfoot: brown-and-white

Songleap: tortoiseshell

Grassfur: auburn

Branchleap: white

Leafcurl: mostly white with some dark gray spots on her flank and on one ear

Neither parent has any white, which would mean the kits shouldn't have it either; but since Flutterfoot seems to pass his to his daughter Stretchkit i decided to gave Oatclaw white paws. The younger two, Branchleap and Leafcurl will be points, to be at least whitish.

Other problem: Songleap got a red allele from nowhere, so either i had to make her non-tortie, make Featherpelt tortie, or make Oatclaw red-based. I chose the last, because Featherpelt's family is pure black-based for generations, and if you squint pale brown can be interpreted as cream. However this makes all the other girls torties as well, and Featherpelt has to be dark to have brown Flutterfoot. Oh well, black tabbies can be gray looking.

Auburn is a mysterious description; i decided to make Grassfur a simple black tortie tabby. Songleap will be solid blue tortie for contrast.

Oatclaw: cream with white

Featherpelt: black mackerel tabby

Whistlebreeze: blue tortoiseshell blotched tabby

Flutterfoot: black mackerel tabby with white

Songleap: blue tortoiseshell

Grassfur: black tortoiseshell mackerel tabby

Branchleap: black tabby point

Leafcurl: blue tortoiseshell point with white

(The tabby patterns are pretty arbritary, i decided to make Whistlebreeze blotched and everyone else mackerel mostly just based on the vibes of the names (and because i want mackerel to be more common).)

First litter: Whistlebreeze, Flutterfoot and Songleap

Second litter: Grassfur, Branchleap and Leafcurl

very cautiously beginning the changing skies preview (yes it’s 6:30 am. what of it) and while i know i’m not in for a good time, looking at the allegiances i really like a lot of the kit names !!! god knows there’s. way too many of them but aside from moonkit which i already liked, we have hazelkit, sunkit, shinekit, and starlingkit (i love starling- prefixes!! its been too long). actually that’s about all that i really like but im gonna allow myself to be excited cause i do really like those names

For context with Floatshimmer she is an 11 moon old, with kits.

goddddddd I just looked at the allegiances, trying DESPERATELY not to get sidetracked so I finish Star before the winds of my mental disorder pick me up and plop me down on a totally different task than the one I'm trying to do,

BUT

Lord it's bad. It's BEE-AY-D BAD. They didn't just make Moonpaw's parentage terrible, almost every choice (besides the expected Night/Sun and Blaze/Light litters) is weird in some way

We've got some new Orphan Warriors in the form of Fluffpaw and Silkypaw in WindClan, and Sprucepaw and Redpaw in ShadowClan.

Floatshimmer was just born 2 books ago, and is a mother as soon as Changing Skies opens up.

Breezepelt's daughter, Appleshine, now has Rustlekit and Stretchkit, making him a grandfather (not the weirdest thing I guess, considering how many descendants Lionblaze has... but still feels odd.)

Rootspring's sister, Needleclaw, now unceremoniously has Starlingkit and Robinkit in spite of having zero insight to who her potential mate is. EDIT: It's Kitescratch. Her first cousin once removed, a character I can't remember her hanging out with. Wasn't Kite one of Root's bullies

BOTH Myrtlebloom and Bayshine, siblings, are having kittens at the exact same time, and the Erins are really bad at remembering first cousins. I'm having That's So Raven visions into the future of shiptease between Moonpaw and Oak/Sun/Hazel and I'm practically setting up the plot hijinks of the sitcom episode hurling myself into action to try and prevent it

SOME CURSORY THOUGHTS TO HOW I'M GONNA FIX IT;

Orphan Warriors are easy for me to fix, I'll just link them up to some existing families. I guess now's a good time to casually drop that BB!ASC is going to end with the canonical "exodus" of several RiverClan cats, so I'm probably going to have both Silky/Fluff and Spruce/Red be fathered by RiverClan migrants.

Floatshimmer is waaaay too young to be having kits, even by canon's standards, but in BB cats start to have kits around 3-ish. I'm not sure if teenage pregnancy is a thing I feel personally comfortable tackling at this point in time, so I might shuffle her, OR take her kits and "hold on" to them so they get born later. Unsure.

I think Peepaw Breezepelt might just feel odd to me because of BB stuff, since he has his first litter with Harestar and Heathertail after BB!OotS. I'll probably end up shuffling Rustle/Stretch to Heathertail's half-brother, Galerunner, but include a little line or something about Breezy-P and The Polycule starting to feel old.

Needlekits......... hm. I could be tempted for the vibe that Needle had kids on accident and Rootspring is stepping in as an uncle parental figure... but ALSO I like the idea a LOT of Rootspring adopting kids one day. I might make them become Root's adopted kids. EDIT: Kitescratch being FCOR is putting the canon pairing in range of Onestar's Exception, so Needleclaw's litter is now even MORE likely to change.

Light's litter with Blaze is expected, that can stay unchanged, though I am starting to consider how to fix the way her character arc was more of a character stumble.

What I'm planning with Sunbeam's litter I can't tell you yet. Not because I don't know what I'm doing with it, but because I love it a lot and I'm grinning just thinking about revealing it. But you can't have it yet. I gotta finish Star. You don't get to know until I finish Star :))))

Family Tree Updates - Spoilers for TEQ!

Pouncestep and Flaxfoot are the parents to the new ShadowClan apprentices, Redpaw and Sprucepaw.

Flipclaw fathered Myrtlebloom's kits (Oakkit, Sunkit, and Hazelkit), in which the book swapped him for Shellfur accidentally. Fernstripe must be relieved!

Appleshine and Flutterfoot are the parents to Rustlekit and Stretchkit, making Breezepelt a grandfather!

Fluffpaw and Silkypaw are born in Emberfoot and Sedgewhisker's second litter, making them the younger siblings to Larkwing and Featherpelt.

Floatshimmer's kits are Graysky's. She was indeed not confused with Shimmerpelt, as some had speculated, due to her youth.

Hi so uh, here are the rest of them! New apprentices and kits for every clan! Up first are Sunbeam and Nightheart's kits, Goldenpaw and Shinepaw. I'm pretty happy with how these two came out, if I go into every trait and where it came from I'd run outta room for this post 😅 Next is Redpaw and Sprucepaw from Shadowclan, unknown parentage. I tried to channel the classic light stripes on darker body from like 2013 era Warrior Cats with Sprucepaw. Then is Robinpaw and Starlingpaw, kits of Needleclaw and Kitescratch. I only noticed just now that Kitescratch's line has been named after birds which I think is adorable 💕💕 Then, Silkypaw and Fluffypaw (yes actually) from Windclan, unknown parentage. You forced my hand, here is what I consider to be silky and fluffy, though these are more on the extreme end. After is the new kits! First is Oakkit, Sunkit, and Hazelkit, children of Myrtlebloom, unknown father. Then Quickkit, Beechkit, and Poolkit, children of Lightleap and Blazefire. Poolkit is meant to be leucistic, it was the only way I could justify her being "white". Beechkit is the Tigerclone. And Quickkit looks like his great-grandfather. After them is Rustlekit and Stretchkit, children of Appleshine, and Heronkit and Eelkit, children of Floatshimmer. For all of the kits without a named father I have a best guess in mind, but it was still frustrating bc I'd want to use a trait from the father's line, but I want those traits to stay unique to that line, and without confirmation I can't give the trait to the kit. Blergh.
