I read a fanfiction recetntly where ryan got injured but nobody was coming near him not paramedics not pigs bc he was "brandishing his service weapon" & then especkett came over (castle was there already) & ryan was just concussed or smth & refused to let go of his gun bc of what happened with 3xk. Does anybody know what this fanfic is? I want to find it again & I couldn't find it in my history on ao3 (but I haven't reread every single fic to find it).

I saw the first sentence of this drabble on @creativepromptsforwriting​’s Instagram and I was obsessed. I just had to use this in one of my Wordle drabbles!

Story: "I wouldn't call myself a hitman. I'm an independent contractor in waste management."

"Ah yeah, the famous way of managing your waist by beating them up with a baseball bat." Ryan sarcastically said.

"Who are you to judge my work?"

Ryan sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. He felt a headache coming up.

The last couple of days had been filled with over half a dozen dead people, two different mob families luring behind every corner and a lot of caffeine to counter the lack of sleep. So a suspect being a smartass was the last thing Kevin Ryan and Javier Esposito needed.

Several of the victims - who all belonged with the Napolitan mob - were found with wood splinters in their wounds. One victim even had a chunk of the bat in his head, which gave them the DNA of the suspect sitting in front of him. A hitman with the Sicilian mob.

"So where were you yesterday between 12 am and 2 am, and between 5 am and 7 am?" Esposito asked.

"I'm not saying anything anymore. I want a lawyer."

Ryan didn't say anything. He just walked out of the interrogation room with Esposito on his heels. Beckett and Castle emerged from the observation room.

"Go home and have a good rest. We're picking it up tomorrow." Beckett told them. Ryan and Esposito didn't let her tell it twice.

Ryan opened the door of their apartment and discarded his shoes onto the pile of footwear in the hallway.

Neither Esposito nor Ryan were saying anything. They sat down on the couch and Esposito opened his arms. Ryan cuddled close until their chests were aligned and his face was buried in Esposito's neck. He let out a relieved sigh when he felt his headache fade away and he planted a soft kiss on the skin nearest to his lips. Esposito closed his arms even tighter around his boyfriend.

"Thank you, I needed that." Ryan whispered.

"Me, too. I love you."

"I love you, too."

Because even if the days were chaotic and violence was never far away, Ryan always had someone to come home to. And he couldn’t be more grateful.

Summary:

Ryan & Esposito have accidentally adopted an adolescent but they need to find a new apartment to house the three of them. Whoopsie-daisy there is a dead body. Well lucky for them it ensures that nobody else wants the apartment. Hooray. No spoilers, but this takes place in early seasons ig. Alexis is still in high school. Inspiration from 5x11 under the influence (the joey malone episode) mostly for apartment layout & the fact that Esposito has proven to do that sort of thing before, but that Dad!Esposito idea also comes from 2x21 den of thieves (the ike thornton episode). Not much inspiration from 5x18 the wild rover (the fenton o'connell episode) bc we didn't see much of his apartment there. Also some inspiration from 3x10 last call (the old haunt episode). However, I repeat: there are no spoilers, at least no real spoilers.

1x7 Home is Where the Heart Stops missing scene. When I watched it I thought "holy crows these two are about to screw right here & now" during their argument, it was sooooo sexually charged. I read smth by clio_jlh & said to myself "you are SO right bestie" bc I was not the only one who saw esposito pop a boner in front of the captain just from swapping names back & forth but now that I think about it, I have a feeling that I read another one similar to that, which has more similar language to what I used here in this summary. Hm. Welp I cannot find that fic so here we go. They swap names back & forth but instead of watching it or reading a soulless (but awesome) transcript, I rewrote the scene (& added in a few names bc I had too much content & not enough back-&-forths,) & added a little bit after it. Then I added stuff to Clio's fic too.

Summary:

Vent fic. I've been feeling like cutting lately & I've actually been hitting my arms. I haven't cut in a while but I didn't consider myself clean exactly. I don't think of myself clean right now either, esp bc of the hitting. My job is stressful heh. So I wrote this. Red Ryan: Kevin Ryan probably tested out self-harm in high school but it didn't take or he grew out of it & then he probably relapsed after the thing with Alicia calling her name over the bullpen. Now after 3xk he started again & lockwood made it worse too. It isn't just something he does occasionally anymore, it isn't just a single remembrance of his teenaged years after nearly getting a girl killed. This is becoming an addiction. Javier Esposito, Ryan's partner at work & Kevin's partner at home, notices smth wrong & wants to find out to help Ryan improve.

dumb stuff that I half wrote (morning fanfic)

The following morning, as soon as the alarm went off, Kevin got out of bed & stretched. “Hey.”

Javier pulled himself up into a sitting position. “Hey, yourself.”

“Is it time to go yet?”

“An hour, maybe,” Javier said, rubbing the small of Kevin's back. “Be good. It'll warm up soon, you'll see. & I'll hold your hand.”

“I can hold your hand, too. I'm already holding it.” Kevin grabbed Javier's hand, drawing him into a big embrace. “Just so long as you don't take it too seriously.”

Javier wrapped an arm around Kevin's shoulder, squeezing gently. “Cuddling is serious business, you know that, right?”

“Oh yeah,” Kevin said. “I know that. I'm part of it, too.”

“Cuddling's the sweetest, nicest, most intimate thing in the whole world. It can actually make the cold weather a little warmer.”

Kevin & Javier shared a laugh. The sun was already up, just a sliver at the edge of the horizon. “You're no fun, Javi,” Kevin said. “Come on.”

Javier smiled, wrapping his arms around Kevin's waist and tucking his head into his chest. “Cuddling's not the easiest thing in the world, but it can be the most rewarding,” he said quietly. “It's love, though.”

Kevin leaned back, a hand stroking Javier's arm. “Yeah. It's a lot like love, I think.”

Javier wrapped a leg around Kevin's waist, hugging him from behind. “I feel safe, okay?”

Kevin gave him a long kiss on the neck. “I think you're safe enough, man. Come on, let's get up. The sun's not that far away, so it's not that cold.”

“Yeah,” Javier said, rubbing & wiping his eyes with the back of his hand. “Okay. It's time to get up."

Kevin pulled Javier upright, then helped him dress. As soon as they were ready, they made their way to the door.

“Thanks for holding me last night,” Javier said, handing Kevin his jacket.

“Anytime, man,” Kevin said. “Anytime at all.”

I do not speak spanish but I know a little bit about it & I speak french so does anyone want to read an excerpt my crappy rough draft of a fic? No? Too bad here it is:

Esposito set the plates down on the coffee table & went to grab the pot. Ryan was sitting on the sofa already, turning on the subtitles for the movie they had decided upon. Esposito portioned out scoops of rice onto each plate, pork, peas, vegetables, & spice made an enticing aroma. Ryan sat crosslegged under a blanket & let his knee rest against Esposito. 

"Really?" Ryan asked. "You make me the national dish of Puerto Rico?"

Esposito made a disapproving look, mouth long across his face & eyebrows low. He blinked. "My mother knows how to make anything. I've only got a few recipes under my belt."

Ryan chuckled & took a sip from his water glass before picking up a forkful of arroz con gandules. "How's Mami doing, by the way?" 

Esposito covered his mouth politely to speak while eating, "She's good, I was going to call her this weekend but do you want to talk with her now?"

The man already had his phone out & Ryan actually felt like yeah, he did want to talk to Mami.

"Hola chico! Comme estas?" Mami's voice fuzzed through the speaker on the phone. 

"Hola Mami. Kevin esta la, nous parlos ingles, por favor?" 

Esposito's mom let out a coo & switched languages. "Keviiin! How are you?"

Ryan grinned at her enthusiasm. "Soy bien, Mami. Javi just made dinner & we're about to watch a movie."

"Ahhhhhh! Nothing too bad I hope!" 

The boys laughed at her concern. Esposito assured her that they were being responsible & Ryan asked her, "& como estas, Mami? How is swimming going?"

The sweet woman cooed again, "Amazing! The water gives me the support I need & I love the aerobics with the chiquitas."

Esposito beamed & congratulated her. "Well, we'd better let you go, we just wanted to say hi."

Esposito's mom solemnly gave an "Ahhhh," & thanked them for calling. "Muchos bisous, Kevin, Muchos bisous, Javier!" She gave them each a kiss through the phone, the boys bid goodbye simultaneously, & they ended the call. 

The boys smiled, filled with warmth from Mami's love.

I spent over four hours writing yesterday, initially as a joke trying to see if talk-to-transformer would be able to continue my fic. I just fed it smth small to see what it would say & it was funny & not right at all, but then I tried a larger chunk, & with the context it was able to write my a single sentence that I actually liked the gist of, so I changed it to actually work with my fic & started genuinely writing. I got on a roll & started writing from 22 or 23 last night, maybe even midnight, until 4.30 in the morning. Then I woke up about half past 11, had breakfast, listened to a song, got my computer set up, & started writing at around noon. I stopped writing at about 16.30.

Now here's the thing, I did a lot of copy-pasting around & so the formatting got wonky, I sometimes use initials instead of typing out someone's full name to save time & I can ctrl-h it later, there are many points when it is me talking not the character's voices, & the plot kind of got sideways. Not to mention, sometimes I leave notes to myself or parts of the plan/outline in the fic.

I could really use a beta reader. I know the story too well & would end up skimming.

I also know that I am not likely to fix things like "why did he tell beckett so easliy but hide it from castito?" & "why would I delete my casefic part? i worked hard on it!" or alternatively "Why would I finish the case part of it? This is not a casefic, it is about people & characters & relationships" I'd just leave it as-is.

Crack fic I'm sorry & SO not edited or designed to be a real fic. I just don't rly care. This is just bc smth funny popped into my head. I did not write this out of pride, I wrote it bc I thought it was funny.

Once upon a time I was liveblogging & thought an insane thought.

Ryan popped up from the floor. It was dark & rather than turning on the lights, they were using flashlights to search the boiler room in the basement of where some hacker-not-hooker was found dead in the water tank on the roof. 

Ryan, annoyed, complained, “Man. This was Castle’s theory. How did we draw the short straw?”

“I don’t know,” Esposito said. He took the opportunity of conversation to ask a question that had been bugging him. “Let me ask you something.” He turned off his flashlight. “You notice anything weird about Beckett?”

Ryan was unsure what his partner was referring to. “What do you mean?”

Esposito jumped on a heater unit to get closer to the ceiling. “Well, she’s- she’s different.” Esposito’s non-specific explanation causes Ryan to look up at him. “Something’s off.”

The recent concerns over whether or not he himself was perceptibly different came bubbling to the surface. “What are you saying? Like she’s --pregnant?”

Esposito sharply looked down from the heater unit in startledness. “What are you talking about? Where did that even come from?”

 It seemed like Javier was talking about their friend, it did not seem like he was just using a third party as an analog for Kevin. “Well, you said she was acting different. They’re consenting adults–..” 

Javier adamantly argued, “Beckett is not pregnant. Come on, man.” He went back to running his hands along the top of the ductwork, which used actual duct tape which is like sticky aluminum foil NOT DUCK TAPE WHICH IS BAD FOR DUCTS & NOT MEANT TO BE USED ON DUCTS.

Feeling hurt, (especially considering- if they were trying -that they were trying,) Ryan pointed out, “What’s so wrong with being pregnant?”

I can’t decide whether they were trying to have a kid or not. If they were then he says this in a hurt/sad way. If they were not then maybe.. idk. They would probably be having safe sex tho so they would HAVE to be trying to have a kid meaning ryan would probably be off testosterone. Oh also I forgot whether I wanted this to be trans or if I wanted this to be magic mpreg bc it is already crack. Annoyed, (or sad,) Javi shook his head & said, “You know, I can’t even talk to you about this right now.”

Definitely feeling hurt at this point, Ryan said [sort of like mumbling but clear, interjecting but not interrupting, mentioning offhand but it is a continuation of the conversation, I can’t find a word that means “said” in the way I intend], “Okay. Well, um,, try to get over it before I tell you the (good) news, okay?” I don’t know if Ryan is trans or if this is an au where mpreg is possible, I don’t know if they were trying to have a baby or if it was an accident but Ryan felt nervous & a little bit scared, & definitely excited & anticipatory when he told Esposito that he had news relating to being pregnant. 

Kevin was staring at Javi’s face after implying he was pregnant & got to see the shock slap on there & smiled.

“What?” Javier asked.

Kevin grinned wider in response. 

Still unbelieving, “Are you serious?” & his partner really was. “Wowwww! Congratulations, Precioso! That’s great!”

Kevin could not stop smiling. “Thanks, Ducky.”

Javier crouched & hopped to the ground to envelop his sweetheart in a warm, proud embrace.

well I hope you enjoyed the crack that took me way too long. I used to hate crack & I still kind of dislike it but it is funny.

Not when they’re picking on Esposito’s boyfriend like they are doing now.

Esposito had gone to one of these huge Ryan family reunions, as Kevin’s boyfriend for the very first time. And he loved Ryan’s family - mostly - but one of his great-aunts was pushing it here.

“I never thought you would be successful, Kevin, but being in a relationship with a man? Even I couldn’t have imagined you’d fall this deep. You’re a disgrace to our family, Kevin Ryan. If I can even call you a Ryan anymore.”

She had been ranting for the past five minutes. And Kevin let it wash over him, looking at his hands the entire time.

“You should really stop talking now.” Javier said, trying to stay calm. At least on the outside. His insides were boiling.

“And who do you think you are?” The great-aunt said. At least she wasn’t ranting against his partner anymore.

“Me? I love Kevin. Kevin Ryan is the most amazing man I know. You shouldn’t talk to him like that. You obviously don’t know him very well.” Javier said. He saw the warning looks Kevin was shooting him, but he ignored them. He wasn’t sure that was the best idea though.

“Of course I know him. He’s my family.”

“Yeah? Then you’d know how incredible he is. I’m not even exaggerating when I say I’d take a bullet for him. I did it on several occasions, just like he did for me. He saved hundreds, if not thousands, of people with his police work and brought justice to so many more. He even went undercover in the Irish mob! And that’s only at work. Next to his work, he’s the most gentle men you’ll ever meet. He cares deeply about everyone who matters to him and will do everything to make them happy. And you know what the sad part is? You’re one of those people who he cares deeply about. So I suggest you stop ranting to him about what a disgrace he is to this family and you start seeing how amazing he is.”

An awkward silence fell over the room. Javier could hear one of Kevin’s sister cheer him on in a faraway corner of the room and he smiled. Kevin’s great-aunt stuttered, but didn’t say anything.

“Come on, Kevin. Let’s get you to your sisters and your parents. At least they love you for who you are.” Javier said. He pretended it to be for Kevin’s ears only, but everyone knew he said it loud enough for Kevin’s great-aunt to hear it.

“Kevin, I’m so sorry if I overstepped. I just couldn’t let her talk to you like that.” Javier said when they were out of earshot.

Kevin looked at him affectionately and kissed him shortly.

“I love you, Javi.”

Javier sighed relieved and smiled.

“I love you, too, Kevin.”

And his great-aunt? She never talked to Kevin like that again.
