🚨 NEW MINERVA BLOG POST 🚨 I did something I never do... I followed directions for a sewing pattern. I am notorious for hacking a pattern, but this time I wanted to see if I could make a garment the way it was supposed to be made and do an actual review on the instructions. #memademay May 14. I had to go into a studio for work today, so I had an actual reason to wear non gym or lounge clothes. (Don't worry, I was socially distancing, and I was the only person in the building) Tailored pants are not my favorite item to make, but I gave it anothet try anyway. This pattern is from the Mimi G Style line for Simplicity, it's #s8749. I had to make a few alterations, like take the legs in a bunch. If I don them again, I'll also make the rise about 1 1/2" shorter. Pros though, they can be casual or dressy. I managed to match all the plaids, except at the waistband...which you can't really match without piecing. Happy Monday everyone!!! I have been looking at life as the glass is half full. It stops me from getting too down when I don’t feel like I am where I want to be. Too often we are quick to tear ourselves down and struggle to find a little smear of good that we are or have done. Since I started sewing I have been saying this mantra to myself. “I can make that!” It’s simple. This little phrase has given me confidence to try to sew things I have never sewn before and try fabrics I would run down a different aisle to avoid. If you have been in stories this weekend or the last week then you know that I have been inspired to make a velvet coat. The one on the left came across my Pinterest board and I immediate thought “I can make that”. As I searched for a pattern that I thought would work. I started to doubt myself and my abilities. “I have no clue how those pockets were made or what they are called. I don’t have a pattern with a similar collar”. Just messy doubt. And then when I thought forget it I reminded myself that I said I could do it. I found Mimi G’s Simplicity pattern 8749 and figured out how to make the pockets. I still have some hand sewing to do and to finish the sleeves and hem, which I will work on next weekend. The point is we all need something that keeps us going when we get discouraged. A new month and a Monday has rolled around again and I have to say that I am totally exhausted. I wish the weekend was longer. But who doesn’t? 🤷🏽‍♀️ I have been on my feet all weekend sewing and blogging up a storm, which means I have some goodies for you. In case you missed it this jumpsuit is on my @Minervadotcom page. You can find the link in my bio. This is by far one of my favorites. Now since I see A LOT of new faces and I haven’t done this in a while I thought I’d introduce myself. 1. My name is Ashley (I despise when people decide to shorten my name and call me Ash. Please don’t do it I want to be friends. 😝) 2. I was born and raised in the west suburbs of Chicago. But now have lived in Arizona for almost 15 years. 3. I try to use clean, vegan and vegetarian products and from time to will go vegan not as a fad. I just go on a healthy craze sometimes so you may see me suggest products to try that have worked for me. 4. I have a little family that includes my husband, Chris of 3 years and our puppy Jack Jack. My hubby will make an appearance occasionally, but JJ is my velcro dog so expect to see him in my stories often. 5. My dream is to run a pattern drafting company, which I am studying for now.
