welcome to tumblr¡ 💗 can I ask for a drabble with a bit of angst that ends in fluff?) for saburo yamada with a reader who usually participates in beauty contests but this because in her childhood she suffered abuse by her father who made her feel horrible

"saburo, do i look okay?"

slowly his eyes raise from a complicated code sprawled across his tablet to your place at his desk, now a makeshift beauty parlor, a flash of a peek enough to confirm his opinion. "yeah, really nice." he says. it's a common enough interaction that he doesn't give a second thought to look at you, really look at you. he didn't lie; he never does. you always knew how lovely you were, how to make sure you stayed that way. saburo trusted your judgement over his own most of the time.

you let out a deep, listless sigh. saburo's eyes snap up from his screen.

"what?" he asks, vaguely concerned. your shoulders are slumped. the intricate style of your hair seems to wilt along, your carefully crafted design falling victim to gravity. now that he looks, really looks, he can tell that the makeup you apply so perfectly suddenly looks off, like colors clashing in a mishmash. saburo feels a pierce of idiocy. rare indeed, but he supposes even he makes miscalculations from time to time. he's only ashamed it happened with you.

"name? what's going on?" he asks again, having only met your silence. he tucks his tablet away so he can slip to your side, kneeling to look up at you from below. "did something happen at school today?"

you shake your head. it takes another moment for you to gather yourself. saburo waits quietly as you do.

"you know...my beauty contests, right?" you ask softly. "lately, i haven't been able to focus on them. i don't know...i don't really know why. i've been doing them since i was little, so it's all i really know how to do. but..." there's a tremble of your lip, a cotton wad caught in your throat. "i never wanted to do this, you know? my dad pushed me to join them. he made me feel...like, this was the only thing i was good for. he never asked how i felt. i don't even think he cared. and now that i'm getting older, i'm just...i'm so scared i won't be good at this anymore. i don't know what else to do." your face crumbles into tears, unable to hold them back any longer. your hands fly up to muffle your sobs, partly shamed of letting saburo see you this way.

he stays still, shocked at the sight before him for a few seconds. he's half the mind he usually is before he realizes himself. saburo scrambles to wrap his arms around you, surprising you both. but he does not let you go. he wraps you up tightly, the way ichi-nii hugs him when he's had a nightmare, the way he hopes will calm you down.

"th-that's awful, name! i-i don't...gah, i don't know what to say...but it's okay to cry. don't be embarrassed. if it makes you feel better, i...you're really pretty, okay? it's no wonder you win all the time. just because you're getting older doesn't mean you'll be less pretty," saburo can't stop himself from speaking faster than his mind can deliver coherant thoughts. "maybe you can be a model, or an idol? you might be too pretty for those, but that's something else you can try to get into..."

he's relieved to hear a huff a laughter sounding through your crying. knowing you're listening to his senseless rambling is reassuring somehow. saburo leans back to brush your hair from your face, feeling a burn in his heart at the sight of your tears. you can't meet his eyes just yet, but just looking at you helps him collect his thoughts a little better.

"i'm sorry you're feeling this way," he begins, unsure. "i...i know i'm not the best at this, but i want to help."

you're reduced to sniffles now. you've had plenty of experience with drying up your tears within minutes; it's a habit to keep yourself steady. saburo watches you with shy eyes, yearning to help but unsure of how to go about it. your usual saburo. seeing his concern for you makes you smile.

"you really think i'm pretty?" your voice is raspy, but your tone is light. saburo nods earnestly, eager to comfort you. his lips curl up slightly when you smile wider, your eyes tearing up from relief. "you'll still like me when i'm older? when...when we're twenty?"

"definitely." says saburo, catching your drift. he's glad to go along with it, as long as it makes you smile. "i might even like you until we're thirty."

"thirty? that's a lifetime away!" you exclaim, laughing gently. saburo is pleased with the sound. courageously he ducks down to rest his chin on your head, pulling your head into his chest. eventually, he feels your arms wrap around him, just as tightly.

"we'll just have to stay together until then. to test out that theory." saburo states matter-of-factly. "so cheer up already."

your smile is gentle against his embrace. "sure thing."

🐾 I would never join Chuuoku those ladies can go rot (except for Nemu she’s a sweet little angel 😇). But yea no after all they’ve done I would never.

🐾 I keep saying Matenrou but also Fling Posse because Ramuda’s so cute and I love their songs. But also Badass Temple, mainly for Jyushi, his lyrics are amazing! 👏✨

since you were one of the more quiet kids in the class, Saburo had never spoken to you despite the two of you being in the same class for years

eventually, the two of you were placed on the same school project and you ended up having to work together on it

Saburo had expected to have to do all of the work like he usually did on school projects, but he was surprised to find that you were actually a hard worker and did your fair share of the work

after the project was over, the two of you continued to talk and over the school years, eventually became good friends

Saburo was hesitant to make friends with anyone at first, but there was something about how thoughtful and hard-working you were that made him want to spend more time with you

your friendship is incredibly endearing and meaningful to the both of you in very different ways

Saburo is someone who always speaks his mind and won’t hesitate to act when he knows it’s the right thing to do

as someone who’s not very good at confrontation, you would be in awe of Saburo’s ability to stand up for what he believes in and you would strive to be more like him in that way

on the other hand, you take on the role of being Saburo’s rock

whenever he’s conflicted about his own identity and how deeply it’s rooted in his brothers’ identities, you’re always there to help pick him up

you always ensure him that he is his own person with his own aspirations and personality and that he can love his brothers and look up to them while still taking on his own role in life

whenever Saburo beats himself up for not being perfect or for letting himself down, you always support him and tell him that nobody is perfect and that everyone struggles with different things

although it’s difficult for Saburo to deal with kindness and self-validation at first, you keep reassuring him over and over again and eventually he begins to have more self-confidence 

one time you were talking about some really deep trauma of his and he ended up crying and made you promise not to tell anyone...it honestly just made the bonds of your friendship stronger

it’s a process to help him be kinder to himself, but having someone as kind and honest as you by his side makes him want to be the best version of himself possible

“Y/N, why are you so quiet all the time? You should talk more in class, you’re obviously smart and know all of the answers.”

“Ah, it’s not as easy for me as it is for you, Saburo...”

most of the time whenever the two of you hang out, it just ends up being hours of talking about anything and everything under the sun

you definitely hang out the most at the library and at the local park because there are so many places to sit and chat

he ends up becoming friends with a lot of your friends as well and although he acts like he doesn’t care, he’s actually very thankful to have so many people that want to spend time with him

even though he get’s low-key annoyed when anyone else calls you their best friend because OBVIOUSLY he is your best friend

you’re his best friend in the world, and even though Saburo might never say it out loud, his school years might have been much more difficult, maybe even impossible, without you by his side

he definitely went back and gave a thank you card to the teacher that put you two together on that class assignment

Samatoki is at the top of this list. He’d dress you up in the most expensive clothes to go out, glaring at anyone who dares look at you in the wrong way, making sure everyone in the room knows that you belong to him. With his hand on your hip, there’s no way he’s letting you go until he’s shown you off to the world.

Jyushi totally adores his s/o, to the point of him dedicating song to them when he performs live, even if you get embarrassed at that kind of thing. He’s not the type to boast about you in the typical way, when someone asks about you he’ll start rambling in his cute voice about how sweet you are to him and things like that. Pure boy. ♡

Dice. His s/o being his ‘lucky charm’ has been said a million times but it’s true! When you’re out together he always has his arm around your shoulders or waist, beaming at the beautiful person beside him. ヽ(>∀<☆)ノ He’s a naturally loud person too so he’s gonna show you off whenever he can!

Which Hypmic boys could I fight and win

This is my official declaration of which hypmic boys I could kick the ass of and who would kick my ass, like real ass kicking, no hypmics because theyd all beat me because I cant rap :(. (Lets be honest the outcomes arent going to be surprising)

ICHIRO YAMADA could kick my ass, honestly, any fight with him is instantly going to become a 3v1 if his brothers are around. However, on the off chance they aren’t there, a fight with just him would still end with my loss, it’d just take a little longer. And since hes such a damn weeb he’d do that stupid anime trope thing where he offers me his hand to help me back up and Ill reluctantly accept it, then the rest of the series is us trying to figure out who we are to each other. Are we friends? Enemies? Lovers? I don’t know, all I know is that I can’t wait for the day he kicks my ass again. My win odds 3/10

JIRO YAMADA can and will kick my ass, it doesn’t take much to give him the will to fight, especially if it involves Ichiro. I don’t even have to have a bad relationship with Ichiro, hell I could just be spending a little too much time with him and Jiro would tell me to meet him outback. While I may not win physically, the moment Ichiro and I marry I will continuously remind him that I’m his brother-in-law now and if he keep being mean to me I will take away his switch. My win odds 2/10

SABURO YAMADA will get his ass kicked, look at this absolute nerd, this loser. Whats he gonna do?? Call me big words I dont understand?? While he was learning to read I was studying the blade, ha go back to the math Olympics, nerd. Although, beating up Ichiros youngest brother isn’t a good look so while Saburo won’t do it, his brothers will sure as hell kill me. My win odds 9/10

SAMATOKI AOHITSUGI will kill me, there is no ass kicking with him, hes a yakuza ffs???? HE like kills people for a living??? Like he threatens to kill the people who work under him??? You think he wont absolutely kill me for trying to start a fight??? Bruh? My win odds -10/10

JYUTO IRUMA will kick my ass, this guy is a corrupt police officer, Im sure hes had his fair share of Yakuza run ins. Im sure he has dealt with stronger people than me in groups, also speaking of corrupt like hell this guy is gonna fight fair. My only chances of winning against him is if I can take a chair against his head faster than he could to me. My win odds 1/10.

RIO BUSUJIMA would kick my ass so quick, hes also such a sweetheart, why would I ever to begin with??? Im sure he’d let me get a few hits in before I realize that they do absolutely nothing to him, then he’d knock me out in one go,,, Im sure Id wake up like half an hour later and he would have made me some scorpion soup and some lavender drink because the only reason I must've started that fight was because I was hungry. Of course I eat all of it because he deserves it, he made me such a nice meal after all. My win odds 0/10.

RAMUDA AMEMURA will get his ass kicked, but not by much, I may have the height and weight advantage but hes a lot faster. Honestly, he’d probably either out run me or exhaust me before I can really get to him. If I do get him, he def feels like the kinda person to go for the eyes so Im sure Ill at least be leaving the fight with a black eye. My win odds 7/10.

GENTARO YUMENO will get his ass kicked, this for some reason took a little bit to think about. Gentaro is another nerd although not on Saburo level, he is one of the few people in the hypmic world who can read. My win odds 8/10.

DICE ARISUGAWA will get his ass beat, in terms of ability to fight Im sure Dice can hold his own, I can totally believe he’s been in a few fights because his dumbass keeps going all in when he has no money. However, I am sick of lending him money and then having him come to my house half naked because he lost it all playing Poker, then for him to leave at 3 am after eating me out of all my food. Dont get me wrong, hes my friend but sometimes you gotta beat the shit out of your friend. My win odds 777/10.

JAKURAI JINGUJI would kick my ass, Jakurai is a very civil man so I doubt he would ever get into a real fight with me. Hes a doctor so Im sure he could hit me in just right place to subdue me, a very good man and Im terrible for going after him. An update, I got far enough in the manga and he really does subdue people with body water or whatever. My win odds 0/10.

HIFUMI IZANAMI will get his ass beat, Hifumis talents include sewing, cooking, cleaning and rapping about champagne towers. This man is not built for fighting, he is soft and I will absolutely destroy him. My win odds 9/10.

DOPPO KANNONZAKA will get his ass beat, he wouldnt really fight back if I did and he’d probably just apologize during and after it. I may come out completely unharmed but know that Im beaten emotionally, would you even call it a win? This poor man just wants to sleep and drink his lavender, why couldn’t I just let him rest. -oh this poor kid. he has no clue what to do, it sort of hit him out of nowhere one day; that he realised he really REALLY liked you, like a lot!! more than a friend (i think ichiro is the type of person who would only really fall for someone he considers a friend first, so u gotta be his friend before u can suck his dick ok)

-he can’t stop thinking about you, especially when he’s reading those light novels of his. he can’t help picturing the two of you in the same situations as the main love interests and he keeps!! blushing and having to stop reading because it makes his heart so soft but he’s so embarrassed 

-every time he sees you he can feel his heart sort of..squeeze or ache in some way, he finds it hard to hold back his feelings because he’s usually so honest and affectionate but he really doesn’t want to ruin your friendship.

-jiro and saburo notice he’s been acting differently recently, he’s been a little more easily distracted and he seems especially jumpy when you come around…honestly they can probably tell what’s up, i think they’d try to get you two alone but they simultaneously facepalm when ichiro still says nothing and just keeps staring at you when you’re not looking (sometimes you notice but you don’t think much of it)

-he would probably imagine some different romantic confession scenario each night. before he goes to sleep he lies there and he imagines various (impossible) ways his confession to you would go. it’s all really cliche but he’s having the time of his life before he goes to sleep and probably dreams about it too

-bruh ichiro is so whipped like.,he’d drop anything to help you if you needed it. he’s such a sweetie and even you notice he’s been doing more to help than usual lately. please remind him to take care of himself, i feel like he needs someone to do that for him sometimes

-it takes time, a lot of longing glances at you and he probably even sighs wistfully while reading manga, but eventually he’ll gather up the courage to tell you how he feels. he’s planned some impossibly elaborate scenario, but one day when you guys are just hanging out on one of his days off playing video games or something (GOD I WISH THAT WERE ME…THIS BITCH Y/N IS OUT HERE LIVING THEIR BEST LIFE) he just sorta..lets it slip that he really likes you. 

-he would definitely only ever say it in person. he thinks that doing it via message/text is sort of an easy way out and what sort of person would he be if he did that?? he’s gotta gather up the courage just like his favourite main characters have done so many times!!

-so he’d tell you, and if you accept him he’d be SO HAPPY i think he’d almost cry. he’d give you the biggest, softest hug ever and you’d probably have to tell him to stop squeezing so hard but!!! aah!! he’s so so happy that you return his feelings and he doesn’t even care that you guys technically wasted time with all the moments he couldn’t bring himself to say anything

-and as a zombie kills him in minecraft in the background, ichiro can feel that ache in his chest finally subside as he leans in to give you a big ol smooch right on the lips (mwah ily too ichiro)

Daisu

-ok. this one made me a little emo ngl

-when dice finds out he has feelings for you, he really doesn’t know what else to do. there’s evidence that he actually doesn’t think that highly of himself (..im lookin at you hypmic manga + stella lyric video), so he would probably be content to be around you in any way, even if it isn’t romantic, because he’s just so happy and kind of astounded you want to be around him as much as you do at all

-he isn’t very obviously like this, though, it’s just thoughts he has sometimes so you don’t notice anything, but they’re still there. he doesn’t think you’d want to date someone like him, after all, he’s a bit of a screw-up, right?(NO HE ISNT..DICE IS BABEY) he’s only 20, and yet he’s already made so many bad decisions…

-and he finds himself enjoying your company even more than usual, he really does love you so much and he isn’t used to feeling this way! his chest hurts when he thinks about you, and he just sees your hand and wants to hoLD IT SO BADLY but he can’t bring himself to say anything

-he’s always been a little clingy towards people who are kind to him, but you notice he’s been like that even more than usual. he doesn’t even beg money from you like usual, he’s just…there, a lot. not that you mind, in fact you welcome his company, you just notice that difference

-he stays with you a lot, and you guys still have just as much fun together as you always did! he’s great to be around, he’s really lighthearted even if he gets riled up easily, and maybe you start to notice this light, fluttery feeling when he’s around too..but you brush it off as just general enjoyment of his presence

-it’s one day, after he’s had a particular lucky streak down at the slot machines, that he feels that wave of dopamine hit and just rushes to your place, excited at all his winnings, and accidentally-on-purpose (he’s aware of what he’s doing, he just can’t really control his mouth lol) tells you how he feels in a big rush of excitement (probably like “AND I THINK I WON CAUSE I’VE BEEN AROUND YOU A LOT!! YOU’RE LIKE MY LUCKY CHARM!! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH Y/N!!”

-you’re like “uhh..ok what?? bruh moment” as he keeps going, then he realises what he said and COMPLETELY STOPS, he’s speechless for a good few seconds, before he turns pretty red and starts pacing around the room ranting about how it wasn’t supposed to go like that!!! he wasn’t supposed to say anything because there’s no way you’d wanna be with someone like him!!

-and then you go over to him to calm him down, take his hand in yours and assure him that actually, you do want to be with him. you tell him you’ve liked him for a while now too, but you’d only figured it out recently, and he’s just so shocked that his brain stops working for a moment and he looks like “…” but as a person

-and then he gets the biggest, cheesiest dice-grin on his face and gives you a BIG BIG BONE-CRUSHING HUG, spins you around, and says he loves you over and over while you laugh and cry simultaneously because you think he’s about to snap your spine

-after that’s over, you tell him that he shouldn’t think of himself as trash or anything; sure he’s like the definition of bad decisions, but you don’t care because he’s an honest, kind person whose company you genuinely enjoy, and even if he gambled all his clothes and everything else he owns away, you’d still wanna be with him because you feel the same, you love him

-he’s so happy! he feels luckier than he ever has in his entire life, his day has gone so well and he has the best sleep (by your side, ofc) he’s had in a long time

Doppo

-a nervous wreck..you think he’s bad normally?? he’s 100 times worse now that he’s realised he likes you in a romantic way

-he’s REALLY OBVIOUS!! poor man :^( he stutters while he’s talking to you (more than usual), he blushes BRIGHT RED when asking you anything, he’s fidgeting SO MUCH like his hands are shaking (knees weak palms sweaty mom’s spaghetti), and sometimes he can’t even bring himself to greet you when he sees you because he’s just too afraid of screwing up and making you hate him (as if you could ever..doppo is amazing)

-everyone within a mile radius can tell how he feels. hifumi almost tells you himself before doppo smacks him straight across the face and tells him to shut the hell his mouth before apologizing profusely to you and dragging mr hifoomi away for a severe talking to about Social Boundaries (then apologizes for giving him the smack and pats him on the head. i love their friendship)

-he’d go out of his way to see you at least once a day, even if he can’t always bring himself to talk to you and even if it means he gets home a little later than usual. he feels horribly creepy just watching you, but his heart is fluttering so much and his chest is aching so badly he can’t do much more than that, no matter how much he wants to go over to you

-he will NEVER confess purposely. his self esteem is so cripplingly low he’s convinced you don’t even like him that much anyway, let alone return his feelings, and he thinks him confessing would just make you despise him, so he never says anything and just remains stuck in this horrible loop

-one day, however, he’s had the shittiest day in a while (at least, it stands out compared to others), and you invite him over for dinner (it’s been a while, after all!). he thinks, why not? how could this day get any worse? at least he’ll get to see you, even if he makes a big fool of himself and you end up hating him. at least it’ll all be over in one day

-you’re actually a little nervous yourself. you really like doppo, and you had plans to say something to him yourself this evening. you didn’t want to give him a nervous breakdown, however, so you had this whole thing planned out where you’d give him the most relaxing dinner possible so he’d at least be in a relatively normal state of mind so you could tell him your feelings

-well!! spoiler alert, it doesn’t end up like that. doppo, more anxious than usual, keeps slipping over his words and keeps muttering under his breath, and you can only seem to calm him for a max of 5 minutes at a time before he’s at it again. you manage to get through dinner fine, in fact it’s really pleasant, but after that he doesn’t know what to do and ends up biting his nails on your couch while you tidy up

-he says it accidentally. he didn’t mean for you to hear it, but he says that he loves you and you almost drop the plate you’re holding in shock because!! no way! he feels the same? and you turn around and he’s got this absolutely devastated look on his face because he’s convinced he’s just ruined your entire relationship

-you rush over to him before he can start apologizing and self-deprecating again (he gets a few out before you reach him) and you pull him up off the couch and into your arms because boy does he look like he needs a hug right now. you stroke his hair and reassure him that you feel the same! in fact, you were planning on confessing to him yourself at some point tonight, but he beat you to it! you congratulate him on being brave enough to say it aloud, even if it was an accident

-doppo’s in shock. he doesn’t know what to say, but he loves the feeling of your hand stroking his hair and leans into it, unable to believe his luck. he probably starts crying as soon as his emotions catch up to him because he’s SO RELIEVED, that was so stressful for him, and he’s not sure if he’s felt this happy in a long time

Ichiro - god. where do you even start with him lmAO i feel like ichiro loves pretty much every meme, he probably references vines a lot though, and references old shitty memes just to annoy people!! also is super on top of what memes are new. he loves minecraft memes a lot too (he shows Jiro and Saburo minecraft cursed images to wii music or something and Saburo just cries)

Jiro - JIRO IS AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND WHEN IT COMES TO MEMES I’ve been thinking about this for so long oops. he references memes so often (”what up, i’m jiro, i’m 17, and i never fuckin learnt how to read”) and sometimes you won’t even understand his entire sentence because of how incomprehensible it is. he tends to say nonsensical things out of nowhere like something stupid like “i cant believe ichi-nii died for real after he died in minecraft..oh my god” and yeah Saburo is just huddled in a corner. Jiro also uses tiktok i feel like he loves those ones where it’s just a head and neck attached to a leg he’s probably made one. (you know there’s this one video
