Thinking about the duality of endstone reset Icarus “I don’t need to be fixed” Morningstar and third reset Icarus “after learning about me not being, entirely, me I need to work to fix everything I do wrong and fix myself to make up for the fact that it’s me” Morningstar

Just thinking about in the first reset Icarus when under corruption would always insist that they don’t need to be fixed. That this is how they were and nothing could change that. In the third reset, Icarus generally keeps that same mindset- but theres also that theme of fixing. Of them needing to be fixed because something was wrong with them. Of them needing to be fixed because their eye wasn’t *theirs* and that blood wasn’t theirs and-

And their death- being something fixing them. Fixing- getting rid of- the problem. Because they were a problem, and they were supposed to fix those. Icarus’s whole thing about fixing everything they’ve done just proceeds to extend to themself- thinking they need to be fixed that they’re broken or wrong because something in their head doesn’t seem to be quite right even if you ignore the eye not being theirs.

I just. Care. About Icarus and thinking they need to be fixed in particular.

I feel like Sage would be that one person in the robotnik family to reach out to her older brother and the middle child E - 123 Omega. Like she's seen his schematics, knows he was abandoned and how angry he is, hasn't met him yet, but wants to reach out to him.

This storyline could go so many ways that it's fun to think of the possibilities. I've listed some below:

Omega gets angry at Sage and Eggman dies to protect her because he's the first thing he's felt genuine love and connection to.

Omega tells Sage off and that he doesn't want a family.

Omega tells Sage off and mentions that Team Dark is what he would consider his family now.

Omega tells Sage enough terrible things to get her mad at Eggman too. It would take a lot of convincing though. (Queue awesome Big brother little sister bonding moments I WANT)

Sage takes over Omega's programming and rewrites him back into the family. Good luck rewriting sheer and unbridled rage.

Eggman actually wants to apologize for how he treated Omega because Sage has changed him. Omega ain't having none of that shit and kills Eggman anyways.

Same as the one directly above, except Shadow sees the change and can't help but think of Gerald, thus he saves him from Omega.

Sage creates an AI form for Omega to have. In return, he shoved Sage into a robot body. "LET'S SEE HOW YOU LIKE IT TWERP!"

The oldest child Metal Sonic comes face to face with Omega again and they start fighting, Sage is the only one who can split them up. Mostly because Metal Sonic would sooner disobey his creator than his younger sister.

Omega "I'VE DIVORCED THIS FAMILY BEFORE YOU WERE BORN." Sage "But I want you in my life!"

Gemerl is like that cousin who sees all the family drama and nopes out real quick. I don't think he has any feelings regarding Sage other than she has that innocence that he sees in Cream, but also knows the AI is very deadly.

Sage studying Gamma and wishing he were still alive to ask him questions.

Dude! If they brought Gamma back with a different core than a flicky, he'd be the robot everyone liked except Omega. Omega would be the "I'm better than you" brother and try to maim him any chance he got.

Gamma would still appreciate him the same though and it would drive Omega up the fucking wall.

"I WILL DESTROY EGGMAN'S WORK."

"Oh good job little brother! I'm so proud of you!" *Pat pat*

"HOW DARE YOU PATRONIZE ME!" Omega can't touch Gamma though or Amy will have his head.

Gemerl enjoys watching Gamma torment Omega with kindness. He uses it as black mail.

Eggman's just like "I should stop making children."

I just found out browsing through Ao3's relationship tags for Sage that she has nine fics where she is paired with Sebastian Shaw. So now, I have a goal: 10. At least 10 OmegaSage fics where she gets to have a good, happy, healthy, and healing relationship for once and where her character gets some love and focus. So far, there are 6 where she is paired with Arkady. That means at least 4 to go!

I have noticed when it comes to characters like Arkady and Sage, if they appear in a fan work, it's not often at all (Arkady's tag has 64 listings while Sage has 141) and they're not given much attention, even if they're a listed character. More often than not, they're regulated to a side role or are just used/named-dropped once and never heard from again. It's really a shame since both Arkady and Sage are great characters with a lot more going for them that make them fun to use in major roles and to explore themes and concepts with.

This is something I do also note doesn't help much in encouraging fanfic writers to try their hand at writing these less used/popular characters. They don't have as many appearances to their name in the comics, so for some people, it's hard to figure out how to write them even after some research. And that gets reflected in fanfiction where they're not used as much because -- unless you happen to be a die-hard fan of one or both of them -- people aren't sure how to write them or how to use them. It's a perpetual motion machine in a bad way: readers of fics only ever see these characters in supporting roles in fics and don't get to see the real magic that comes with a deep dive. So even when you see that a character like Omega Red or Sage is in a fic, there's a high chance they still get put into a support role because that's all people ever see them appear as and nothing more. Nothing deeper for either of them.

So that will be my goal. Keep writing OmegaSage content and hope that my writing for both Arkady and Teresia helps change some of the narrative and use of them in fanfiction if anyone ever happens to stumble on my writing. They're both interesting and engaging characters -- and personally I think they're even more fun/better together -- and they deserve some love.
