Saitama, casually bending reality?
A funny thought struck me when I read reddit.
Saitama does his omnidirectional punch where he said he's gonna go full power against garou, meaning he knows he's bending reality and does not bat an eye when he grabs hyperspace gates. Then he chooses to appear from all directions, at the same time.
Tumblr media
It means he's conscious of the usage and logic defining of his powers. This is important. Because he never goes full power in terms of strenght usage, he even fights with just one arm and keeps growing stronger the whole fight. So what he refers to is something else entirely.
Manipulating reality itself.
It's really not afterimages that we're seeing is it? He's literally just everywhere, even inside Garou's portal at the same time because he visualizes it happening. Garou can't believe his eyes when he sees it that Saitama is everywhere, even inside his hyperspace portal, which should be impossible. But it's only another possible direction that Garou opened for Saitama to appear from.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the reality manipulation that Blast and Genos confirm is happening. That Saitama manipulates the reality of the cosmos and causality itself. That he visualizes something and he can make it happen. He bends and kicks hyperspace portals, which is a feat that should logically be impossible. But he interacts with them, because he wants to and visualizes to move them away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But I realised that...we've actually seen him do the reality manipulation this whole time. And the first iteration is extremely pointedly presented in the anime.
Consecutive punches.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He actually grows extra fucking arms. And then they disappear. My god.
Consecutively punching at the same exact time, not just punching fast enough that it seems to be everywhere. So multiple punches happen at the same time. The consecutive punching he did against Boros, THAT is an actual speed feat and it is depicted as such when his fist blurs.
I can't believe we attributed this to being just anime effects and a depiction of speed feat and afterimages. It was there this whole time.
This is so fucking clever misdirection and hiding the fact that Sai's been bending reality this entire time. Actually genius. ONE even tweeted about season 1 and 2 reruns like "hey you should go watch em btw" when he hasn't tweeted anything in years. Now with more understanding of the character, I'm suddenly having this lightbulb moment.
He also does it against Genos, when Genos believes it's just an afterimage. He multiplies himself.
Tumblr media
Saitama's image even appears frozen in time, like a ghost and it does not move, compared to the actual fast speed punches Genos is throwing that cause afterimages.
The important thing to note here is that Genos had the target lock on. A biological lock. Even if Genos own senses were being fooled by Saitama moving too fast to track, a biological lock on would inform him immediately that his target is gone. Biological lock only needs sensors to detect the biological signature being present and would not be fooled by something like speed and either lose the lock on or inform Genos his lock on has moved elsewhere.
Unless said Target is still actually there ofc, so he never loses the lock on until the body disappears.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we know that Genos can track Saitama's biological target from any visual distance away, when he fought Garou in the clouds too. Biological signature does not change even if Saitama came back from the future.
No wonder Genos was so confused.
This was just Saitama himself being in two places at once. Just like Garou, other people perceive it to be afterimages when it's actually not, he multiplies himself but far better than a measily kage bunshin from naruto lol.
Then there's ofc the death punch that just magically curves around Genos. Because Saitama visualizes the obliteration behind him but does not want to harm Genos.
Guys I think Saitama is even more busted than we originally thought.
Tumblr media
You know what Genos? You're right, again. There is a secret ingredient to Saitama's powers lol. And the spar you had definitely was insightful too.
That's why you're the appointed narrator of facts in the series. You're the one with the highest IQ.

WC! Saitama about Genos: ? Yeah he's cool, a friend of mine. I'm not good at paying attention to you or give you advice. I forget about you sometimes but if you ever need me as support to beat your archnemesis I'm here :). I promise to take care of you.
Manga! Saitama: I nearly destroyed the earth and kill everyone trying to punch your killer. I never let go of your core the entire fight bc I knew if I lost it I would lose myself. I was so affected by your death that I unlocked an unimaginable and unprecedented level of power I didn't even know I was capable of. I suck at expressing this vocally but I cling unto your invaluable support. You're the greatest tether to my humanity and you keep me sane. You're the most important person in my life.

the disastrous life of saiki k its only a comedy anime because we see everything from kusuo's pov and the things that's happens in the episode are just a normal day for him so he sees everything like normal and even comedic
I just KNOW that if it was from someone else's pov the anime would turn into psychological horror

When you realise the dark spot in space in 167 was Bok's globule.
Tumblr media
Bok globules were first observed by astronomer Bart Bok in the 1940s. In an article published in 1947, he and Edith Reilly hypothesized that these clouds were "similar to insect's cocoons" that were undergoing gravitational collapse to form new stars, from which stars and star clusters were born.[4][failed verification] This hypothesis was difficult to verify due to the observational difficulties of establishing what was happening inside a dense dark cloud that obscured all visible light emitted from within it. An analysis of near-infrared observations published in 1990 confirmed that stars were being born inside Bok globules.
And then Garou sees the Sun and then another separate glowing star right next to Earth.
Tumblr media
Saitama's powers created another goddamn star.
Holy shit.

Another AU idea:
Genos and Saitama never meet before joining the Hero Association. Genos joined shortly after it had started—he was sought out by the H.A. and, realizing he could use the benefits they provided to find the Mad Cyborg as well as fighting for justice in general, he agreed. Saitama joins after about 2 ½ because he happened to hear other heroes talking about the H.A., asked about it, and decided to join. Why he joined?
It's because he's a massive Demon Cyborg fan.
Ever since he found out who he was, he though he was the coolest hero ever. Sure, the guy was younger than him, but goddamn, he was badass as fuck! With his Machine Gun Blows and his Incineration Cannons- he was just so amazing. And he inspires Saitama. There's not much content of him out there, the guy isn't on social media much (he only posts things once every few weeks, if that), he doesn't do photoshoots or signings or interviews. He's just a hero wanting to be a hero. And fuck, does that speak to Saitama’s soul.
So Saitama joins. He does his heroing things. Incidents like the Deep Sea King encounter and the Meteor incident happen, but Saitama and Genos aren't together for it. So rumors spread like wildfire, and because Genos isn't there to dispute any of it... he believes it when he hears them. And he hates Caped Baldy for it.
Faking heroic deeds, stealing credit, causing hundreds of millions of yen in damages? Just who the hell let him join the Hero Association?
When they meet for the first time, it's due to a battle with Mosquito Girl. Genos was fighting her, got his ass kicked, Saitama saw, defeated her, the whole shebang. Saitama saw his favorite hero of all time about to die and saved him, so he's reeling, even if he doesn't show it. (His emotions are dulled, and even more so because of the non-stop hate he's been given for the last few months and having no emotional support).
But Genos? His disdain for Saitama is fucking with his head. Cuz how did he do that? And why was Caped Baldy here to begin with? Was he trying to steal credit again? But he just saved his life. What's going on? What just happened? Did he weaken the monster girl and he stepped in for the final blow or was Caped Baldy really strong?
Eventually his hate wins out and he snaps at Saitama. Tells him his "plan" to steal credit for popularity and rank-climbing won't work, how it's disgusting that he does that. He tells him that saving him won't win him favors or respect from anyone.
And as he goes on and on, Saitama's wide and glittery eyes go dull and flat. Genos almost stops talking when he notices, but he's beaten to that when Saitama suddenly asks if he's okay again. When Genos says yes, the bald man turns and walks away. Genos feels a small pang of guilt for a reason he can't place, but he shakes it off and waits to get taken to Kuseno's lab for repairs. He thinks about the interaction (if it could even be called that) the entire way there and throughout the entire repair.

warning ⚠️ short essay ahead
pitting characters from different media against each other and headcanoning who would win is fun and all, but there is one problem with how people go about it imo, in that they just look at what the characters are literally capable of instead of taking into account any sense of relative power. this is fine, obviously - i'm not going to show up at anyone's doorstep demanding they change their ways. but it's very easy to look at... say, Joe the Super Spy from a show where magic and crazy technology don't exist, and, like, Dragon Rage Meteor Crusher, from an anime where entire galaxies are destroyed during battle, and say with certainty that Dragon Rage Meteor Crusher could kill Joe the Super Spy in a picosecond. what isn't quite so easy is looking at their relative power within their respective media and comparing that. to some that might not be as fun, which is fine, but i think it's pretty fascinating, personally! say that Dragon Rage Meteor Crusher can destroy a planet with a snap of his fingers, which he can perform in less than a nanosecond. and, relatively, he's powerful - say, S-tier equivalent. however, there are a bunch of other S-tiers who can duke it out with Dragon Rage Meteor Crusher. on the other hand, say that Joe the Super Spy exists in a world without any kind of magical power or crazy technology, but is overwhelmingly competent and powerful compared to everyone else. he exists in a league of his own. he's completely overpowered. comparing Dragon Rage Meteor Crusher and Joe the Super Spy from that perspective is low-key more interesting to me...
as an actual example: this is why characters being pitted against Saitama from One Punch Man is so interesting. Saitama is overpowered. he can defeat gigantic monsters with one punch, hence the name. he performed a "serious sneeze" by accident and destroyed jupiter. however, it isn't this that makes him overpowered. it's the fact that absolutely no one is a match for him. the other super powerful characters attack him with their insane amounts of power and the guy just stares. he doesn't even care until it turns out they ripped his cape again and now he has to get it repaired, which is a hassle. in a recent fight, it was shown that anyone who begins to approach his power level will only cause him to grow exponentially more powerful in retaliation, thereby reaching a level they cannot hope to oppose. the guy is the definition of overpowered. there are characters in fiction who are capable of more than he is but aren't necessarily entirely, unmatchably overpowered within their media - but he is. another example might be, say, Sung Jinwoo from Solo Leveling, but i'd have to read it again to make sure. in a power fantasy, it is not a character's actual feats (e.g. destroying planets with ease) which draw you in - it's their specialness. an incredibly overpowered high school martial artist in a non-magical world of less powerful high school martial artists functions fine as a vessel for a power fantasy because they are special. a basketball player who stands head-and-shoulders above everyone else in a show about basketball is still overpowered.
hence, i posit that Joe the Super Spy could be considered more powerful than Dragon Rage Meteor Crusher and could beat him in a fight. that will be all.
