GOD. SAM SHOULDVE KNOWN EVERYTHING ABOUT LUCIFER.
He should’ve known it wasn’t Cas from the second they got back. He should’ve known where Lucifer would go, he should’ve known all his plans.
They were together for DECADES. And Sam knows nothing? I refuse to believe that.
Casifer makes one movement, says one thing after coming back and Sam sinks to the floor, screaming “That’s not Cas.” At the top of his lungs and Lucifer is QUICK with his “Never could’ve fooled you, Sammy.”

Lucifer telling Sam "you've gone soft" in 11.10 is soooooooooooooooo...
Yes it's all a manipulation tactic, but Lucifer walking Sam through his memories, things that seem a lifetime ago, saying this is how you were before: bold and decisive - this is the Sam that saved the world, this isn't you anymore - when Lucifer is the reason why Sam is the way he is now. Insane. There are rare moments of gold in supernatural and one of them is when they play on the psychological horror in the fact that Lucifer; his torturer, tormentor, abuser and other half of his soul is the one that knows him best. He knows how powerless Sam feels - now that he's got lifetimes of trauma from the Cage that have skinned and flayed him on every level. His rigorous, borderline obsessive routine he keeps in his daily life through exercising and healthy eating - all to maintain a semblance of control. Yet deep down, it's like he told Rowena in s13:
"It’s not going to change anything. You’re still going to feel helpless."
Just as Lucifer knew that playing on Sam's desperate faith in religion and scramble to achieve purity (to be saved - as he said in s2) would be the only thing to get him to even go near the Cage, Lucifer knows that throwing back in his face his increased docility as time goes on as Sam's true failure and the reason why he will fail everyone around him is the only thing that could make Sam let himself be Lucifer's vessel. The way he spins it to sound like Sam not letting Lucifer out is proof of his weakness and helplessness. What if that was my last straw?
This scene, this whole episode, was so good and it made me want to claw my eyes out.
Lucifer calls him prissy. He says I never liked you but at this point - when you made the hard choice to save the world and condemned yourself in the Cage to me in holy matrimony, I respected you. You're not that person anymore. You're soft and placid and weak and that's something to be ashamed of. You're going to doom the world now because you're too screwed in the head. Look at you and your first romantic affairs when you were younger - Solid B on the tongue action - yes I know that about you too.
Lucifer being all righteous in saying that its the fact that Sam and Dean would do anything to save each other that is the problem that keeps dooming the world. And it's horrible because Sam knows he's right, the viewer knows he's right - their codependency is their moral pitfall, but it's all spiraling to the worst conclusion.
Tell you what - the second half of s11 can shove it's sympathy for the devil routine down my throat all it wants, but I will never stop hating that slimy bastard. The potential of s11 was unmatched in reaping psychological warfare on Sam, and it was a shame that it played out in such a... goofy... unnuanced... cheap semblance of a redemption arc... way that it did. But still, it is scenes like this one that pull through to make the season worth it.

One of my dearest concepts wrt a Stockholmed Sam post-cage or, more generally, a Sam who is basically dealing with having to integrate and acknowledge all the non-malign moments in his relationship with Lucifer, is that I do not think Lucifer ever really tried to make Sam like him. Certainly not post-5.22, but even before then, Lucifer’s not using a sales pitch: he courts Sam with inevitability, not with an appeal that he thinks is particularly likely to endear himself to Sam.
Lucifer is a character who never really cares to present himself as something other than what he is, and what he is is generally insufferable. What he’s got on his side is not his personality; it’s his sheer power and the sheer amount of time he’s spending with Sam. So, Sam doesn’t have complicated feelings about Lucifer because he thinks Lucifer has legitimate mitigating personality traits, or because he makes good points, or because Lucifer’s put any true effort into getting Sam to like him, or similar: it’s because of psychological inevitability.

op ur post about post-cage sam with stockholm syndrome has changed my life how do u see that manifesting in sam. how does he feel about it. ur wise words. i want to know what u think.
Anon, this is such a lovely ask, I don't know if you'll ever see this but I'm really sorry this took me more than three months to answer 🙈🙈
I think Sam, no matter what scenario, would and does feel deeply, deeply ashamed for any kind of attachement or connection to Lucifer.
Anyway I think there are many different ways to stockholm syndrome!Sam:
S6B: Sam feels like there's something missing. He doesn't know what it is, but there's a deep ache within him. It's not for Dean. God, he wishes it was Dean. And the shame of that tastes like bile: that Dean is not enough for Sam. That he wants something else. He thinks of Ruby and the demon blood. He thinks about Jess dying on the ceiling. Wanting things has never worked out well for him. He wishes he knew what he was yearning for - . Then Castiel breaks his wall and Sam remembers - bits and pieces, but it is enough. Oh, he thinks, of course it is you.
S7: When Sam starts hallucinating, Lucifer doesn't threaten him. He tries to make Sam believe he's still in the cage, but it's not to hurt Sam. He's understanding, almost apologetic. I know you miss Dean, but he's not here. You're with me. He's pointing out lucky escapes, making pointed remarks about the events of S6+7 (Purgatory, Eve, Leviathans...does all this not seem absurd to you?), the state of his and Dean's relationship (I don't know why you do this to yourself, Sam. Why do you imagine Dean treating you like this? The brother who trusted you to defeat me, who stood by you just as my brother did not...). Sam tries to dismiss everything he says, yet sometimes as he lies in bed at night after a long, tense, depressing day, Dean long since lulled to sleep with the help of whisky, he can't help but wish Hallucifer was right and none of this was real. And sometimes Lucifer hits a particular apt point and Sam spends days staring at Dean, looking for signs that can tell him if he's real or not. Sometimes - sometimes Lucifer feels much more real than Dean.
S11-13: There's something very compelling (to me) about Sam remembering exactly what Lucifer did to him in hell and hating him for it and yet being drawn to him. After all the time in the cage together he knows Lucifer - too well. He knows how he thinks, how he sees the world, what motivates him, how he feels about everything he does. Lucifer's mindset is as familiar to him as if it was his own. The certainty of his own experiences of suffering from Lucifer's hands vs the certainity of Lucifer's righteousness in making him suffer. And Lucifer knows exactly what Sam feels and of course wants to exploit it. Needless to say in this scenario Jack would explicitly be Lucifer's attempt to babytrap Sam...

I don't know if anyone from the SPN fandom is still on tumblr, but I realized something today...
Sam is short for "Samuel" (hold for sarcastic applause, that wasn't the whole revelation).
..."Samuel" sounds like "Samael"...which is another name for Lucifer.
Lucifer didn't choose Sam Winchester because they have the same relationship with their fathers or because Sam was predestined for evil - he chose him because they were Name-Twinsies.

Post-cage headcannons for Sam
- He has so much of Lucifer’s grace, nothing supernatural believes him to be human
- He can see angel wings, and can sense when Angels are nearby due to being around Angels for so long
- He cannot be around the cold (Lucifer burns cold remember? The air conditioning accidentally turned on in his room and Sam couldn’t speak english for the rest of the day.)
- Can speak and read fluent enochain (has an actual hard time with english, will sometimes substitute english words with enochian ones because he can’t think in english, Deans ears have bleed because of this, many times. Reverts to pure archangel enochian when triggered
- He can tolerate extreme pain (at one point walked around with a huge gash on his stomach that he did not notice at all because of the pain he’d be forced to endure during the cage, he only noticed bc blood started to soak his shirt)
- He can’t remember a lot from before the cage. (He gets Deans name wrong once and is very confused, when Deans almost breaks down)
- Knows almost everything about Micheal and Lucifer and the entire family (he makes a comment about micheal when gabriel was in the room and gabe just stares at him, bc what he l

the difference between sam and dean talking to the celestial beings they are linked to in 11×09 is so funny to me JDJSJSJWJS. the sunlight and nature that envelopes dean and amara, and the way that dean doesn't seem too afraid of her. in comparison, sam and lucifer are in hell where sam is trying not to shrink in on himself and all of the fire and metal and darkness surrounding the two of them. and you can just see how manipulative lucifer is being right off the bat HDJSJEJWJ. it's so sad that it's funny.
"who would've thunk it?" ALRIGHTY, you got me chuckling a bit, lucifer.
