he's laid out on your bed, and you're sitting on top of him. his hands are gripping your hips and waist as you talk him through what you're doing.

"close your eyes." you tell him, dipping your ring finger in some sparkly blue cosmetics. "what's that for?" dorian asks, keeping his eyes open as he looks down at the pallet. "it's for your eyes." you try to explain. when he kinda just stares at you, you give him a light smack on his shoulder. "i said close!"

"yes, ma'am." he laughs, finally closing his eyes. you smear the blue shadow over his eyelids and feel there's no need to apply a dark coat over his lashes since they're already so long.

"you're all done!" you grin, staring at him as he opens his eyes. he blinks away extra powder, and you move to help him sit up. "do i look like a princess?" he puckers his lips, blinking his lashes at you. you roll your eyes as you smile, "yes. a very pretty one."

"obviously." he stands up to look at himself in the mirror.

HE LOVES IT. he literally falls in love with himself.

now you're stuck watching him kiss at the mirror and touch up his hair for hours.

it's late, late into the night when you finally convince him to take his makeup off.

"can we do this again?" he asks as you run a warm, damp rag over his cheeks. "sure. i'll teach you next time." you reply sleepily.

Modern au

As much as Dorian loves Manon, she isn’t the one he takes out to authentic ethnic restaurants that open around their city.

Aelin is the person he picks, along with Chaol, Yrene and also Rowan. They’re more open to trying different foods and they don’t mind the spice.

Manon though? She’s too white for that like any spice might kill her because he face gets red and she just doesn’t handle spicy food at all. Worst yet, if something is too hot she can’t drink any milk to sooth away the heat so she just suffers and it’s all… not good for her.

Funnily enough, Manon and the girls frequent this one steakhouse where it’s just all kinds of meat and steak and they spend hours there because the food is actually really good so Manon isn’t averted to food because she’s not. She just doesn’t handle spice very good this is why she got her 12 friends because they’re as bad as she is (except for Sorrel, Edda, Lin and Ghislaine)

Sometimes I miss well written books, and then I remember when Chaol, Dorian and Celeana had their really messy breakup so they were not speaking to each other anymore.

Then Dorian happened to see Celeana sneak into the forbidden section of the Library and he followed her caused he thought he was slick, just for both of them to get chased out by a demon. 💀💔 And she practically had to half carry him out cause he's a prince and doesn't do running from demons. 😭😭🤣🤣💔💔

Just remembering them floundering and struggling to keep out the demon that kept banging against the door.💀 Then Dorian tries to use his magic to seal the door shut and Celeana is staring in awe because this is the FIRST TIME that she's finding out that Dorian has magic. 💀💀😂😂😭😭

And he looks so pretty and awesome, until she realises he is dying because he does not know how to use his magic and he is burning out too fast! 💀💀 So she makes him stop and starts using her own magic, and he is in awe because he is also JUST FINDING OUT.....😂😂😂🤣🤣😭😭 Their madness was PEAK writing. 🔥

And then, near the end of the book, Chaol, who is still nursing the wounds from the heartbreak, gets dragged into all of this and now HE has to deal with all the revelations slamming down on him at ONCE with barely any room for him to breathe or process. 😂😭

He nearly gets killed jumping after his ex girlfriend's dog, and then she nearly kills the demon that dragged him away in the first place for daring to drag him away. 💀 And their boyfriend, Dorian, is outside trying not to collapse from the anxiety, and Chaol just found out both his best friends are national level threats.

I NEED to go back to reading books like that. 😂😭🔥

Literally every single one of the SJM endgame couples either hated each other or had a rough start when they first met.

Feyre hated Rhysand

Nesta hated Cassian

Aelin hated Rowan

Yrene hated Chaol

Lysandra hated Aedion

Elide hated Lorcan

Manon and Dorian, Nesryn and Sartaq, Bryce and Hunt, Ruhn and Lidia… They all started out tense. They grew to like one another.

SJM is even quoted saying there will be “tension, growth, and healing” for Elain and Lucien.

We’re going to witness, ON PAGE, Elain and Lucien grappling with the mating bond and then growing to love each other.

Just like EVERY OTHER COUPLE.

Elucien is endgame.

Why e/riel doesn’t work. This post isn’t about why the characters don’t fit together based on traits. That’s a whole separate story. But e/riel doesn’t work out, simply from a writing perspective.

The only way I could’ve seen e/riel work out is if at the end of ACOSF, Elain is already with Lucien, trying to do what “society expects of her” but there’s foreshadowing that she’s not happy. That way, e/riel would bring growth. Something would change. Imagine e/riel is endgame. At the beginning of Elains book, she is not giving Lucien any chance or attention. She is actively rejecting him. She is also already into Azriel. Nobody is pressuring her to be with Lucien, including Lucien himself.

So we have to ask ourselves: what would change? What growth would it bring her? In stories, and especially SJMs love stories, characters start with wanting A, only to go through this inner journey and realizing that they actually wanted/needed B. Feyre started acomaf with wanting Tamlin, only to later realize she wanted and needed Rhys. Nesta started her book with not wanting anyone, only to later realize she wanted and needed Cassian. Chaol started TOD with wanting Nesryn, only to later realize he needed Yrene. Aelin started HOF with wanting Chaol, only to later realize she wanted and needed Rowan, etc. They all follow the same storytelling pattern. They all started wanting A, and at the end of their stories wanting B. Because that’s what makes a compelling story.

If e/riel happened, it would start with both characters wanting A, and ending with A. Nothing would change. No character growth. No change of paths. No inner journey. If Sarah wanted to go the e/riel route, the only way she could’ve made it work, is if she had Elain accept Lucien. That way her story would start with her thinking she wanted A, and then getting B. The fact that SJM didn’t do this, tells me that she doesn’t intend for e/riel to be endgame.

Now, if you follow this pattern of characters starting with wanting A, and ending up realizing they actually wanted/needed B, the only logical pairings would be Elucien and Gwynriel.

i have been thinking about rhy$ putting that shield around feyre

okay, right off the bat, if tamlin had done the whole bubble trap thing to feyre, the fandom would have had issues. i could stop here.

alas, i will not.

this whole plot point is particularly worrying for f3ysand because of how important physical freedom and autonomy is to feyre. i mean, it’s a massive part of her character arc/story!!

it’s like rowan calling aelin a monster after she confides in him about chaol saying the same thing! (i’m not a chaol hater don’t worry xxx)

acosf displays multiple violations to feyre’s very valid boundary by rhys4nd himself. (shield and lying about the baby.)

and for those who say the bubble was not limiting her freedom…

feyre says herself on page 129,

“he’s a pain in the ass…” “…i haven’t figured out how to BREAK FREE of it…” “…rhy$ is perfectly happy to leave it on.”

look, i don’t even like the girl that much. BUT, feyre did not enjoy being trapped inside. she was actively trying to get out, but rhys4nd was HAPPY to keep her in it.

We have Rhys breaking Feyre's arm and drugging her.

We have Feyre spitting at Rhys with vitriol in her voice.

We have Nesta kicking Cassian in his balls and shouting that she wants nothing to do with him.

We have Cassian calling Nesta names right back and saying she's difficult.

We have Ruhn actively believing that Lydia, the Hind was their enemy

We have hunt and Bryce getting on each other's nerves over and over again.

We have Rowan who punched Aelin in the face

We have Yrene who despised Chaol for working with her enemy, believing him to be no different from the men who hurt her.

We have Elide who called Lorcan a monster, hated that he "didn't fight the blood oath" and was crawling back to Maeve.

All of these characters and pairings became endgame despite their rough beginnings, and antis really believe that Elain ignoring Lucien is more egregious than what other endgame couples went through?

"But all those couples had chemistry"

Not all of them had instant chemistry off the back! We were lucky enough to get their POV for that chemistry. We got to see and hear and feel what they thought and how their actions of them lashing out rivaled what was happening in their heart. We got to see their inner struggles, fighting their desire for them while acting aloof or indifferent.

SJM has been very cautious about not letting us In Elain's head. She's had others speculate about Elain, while Elain saying herself that no one truly knows her (evident about how her own sisters talk about her). If what these characters did and said meant so much, then none of the above couples should have gotten together since they were all at odds with one another.

Their relationship is so much more nuanced, and it's boggling how people can give all these couples the green flag but draw a line at Elucien, especially when they follow the exact same pattern as above.

It doesn't matter what happened in ACOWAR or ACOFAS. Where do E/riel stand after ACOSF? Using the previous books "build-up" argument is poor.

It is like arguing, “Hey! Aelin said she will always choose Chaol, so Chaol is her endgame.”

Acosf? You mean the book SJM gave us canon confirmation Elain and Azriel are into each other? Ok let’s look at all the little elriel breadcrumbs there..

✨Azriel gets upset when he finds out something happened between Nesta and it upset Elain..

“Because of the shit with Elain?” Azriel stilled. “What happened to Elain?” Cassian waved a hand. “A fight with Nesta. Don’t bring it up,” he warned when Azriel’s eyes darkened. Cassian blew out a breath. “I take that as a no regarding the meeting topic, then.” “It’s about what I discovered. Rhys said he requires you both there.” “It’s bad, then.” Cassian surveyed the shadows gathered around Az. “You all right?” His brother nodded. “Fine.” But shadows still swarmed him.

✨Azriels shadows wanted to physically strike nesta for insulting Elains personality

“Look who decided to grow claws after all,” she crooned. “Maybe you’ll become interesting at last, Elain.” Nesta saw the blow land, like a physical impact, in Elain’s face, her posture. No one spoke, though shadows gathered in the corners of the room, like snakes preparing to strike.

✨Azriel is protective of Elain the same way Cassian was protective of Nesta

Amren said, “We do not have the time to wait for Nesta to decide. I say we approach Elain tomorrow. Better to have both of them working on it.” Azriel stiffened, an outright sign of temper from him as he said quietly, “There is an innate darkness to the Dread Trove that Elain should not be exposed to.” “But Nesta should?” Cassian growled.

✨Nesta notices Azriel has feelings for Elain & is upset seeing her near Lucien

Shadows darkened his eyes, full of enough pain that she couldn’t stop herself from touching his shoulder. Letting him see that she understood why he stood in the doorway, why he wouldn’t go near the fire. His secret to tell, never hers.

✨3 days after his Soltice scene Bonus Chapter he’s around Gwyn in training but is thinking about Elain and is upset

Three days passed with no word from Cassian. He’d been replaced in training by a stone-faced Azriel, who was more aloof than usual and wouldn’t even give her a smile.

✨Azriel doesn’t need his shadows to read Elain

Lie. Well, the second part was a lie. He didn’t need his shadows to read her tone, the slight tightening of her face.

✨Azriel saved Elain Soltice gift and kept it on his nights stand to look at

She hadn’t bought her mate a present. But she’d gotten Azriel one last year — a headache powder he kept on his nightstand at the House of Wind. Not to use, but just to look at. Which he’d done every night he’d slept there. Or attempted to sleep there.

Interesting observation SJM says she likes to keep things she loves in her night stand too…

Because her mate was here, sleeping a level up. Because her mate had been in the family room and Azriel had needed to stay by the door the whole time because he couldn’t stand the sight of it, the scent of their mating bond, and needed to have the option of leaving if it became too much.

✨Azriel has been staying away from family dinners because of his feelings for Elain and not being able to do anything about it

Elain’s large brown eyes flickered, well aware of all that. Just as he knew she was well aware of why Azriel so rarely came to family dinners these days.

✨Azriel got Elain a gift specifically tailored to her and her interests and his head goes quiet when he touches her even though he’s been having “sharp thoughts”

Too many razor-sharp thoughts sliced him any time he grew still long enough for them to strike.

His head went quiet. But he took the necklace, opening the clasp as she exposed her back, sweeping her hair up in one hand to bare her long, creamy neck.

Azriel’s fingers lingered at her nape, atop the first knob of her spine. Slowly, Elain pivoted into his touch. Until his palm lay flat against her neck.

Elain bit her lower lip, and it took every ounce of Azriel’s restraint to keep from putting his own teeth there. “I should go,” Elain said, but made no move to leave. “Yes,” he said, his thumb sweeping in long strokes along the side of her throat.

But he could have this. This one moment, and maybe a taste, and that would be it.

✨There has been attraction and tension building between Elain and Azriel

It had never gone this far. They’d exchanged looks, the occasional brush of their fingers, but never this. Never blatant, unrestricted touching.

Azriel’s hand slid up her neck, burying in her thick hair. Tilting her face the way he wanted it. Elain’s mouth parted slightly, her eyes scanning his before fluttering shut. Offer and permission. He nearly groaned with relief and need as he lowered his head toward hers.

Then in hofas we learn the cauldron was corrupted..

The Cauldron was of our world, our heritage. But upon arriving here, the Daglan captured it and used their powers to warp it. To turn it from what it had been into something deadlier. No longer just a tool of creation, but of destruction. And the horrors it produced … those, too, my parents would turn to their advantage.

✨Azriel is losing sleep over Elain..

Sleep, they seemed to whisper in his ear. Sleep.I wish I could, he answered silently. But sleep so rarely found him these days. Too many razor-sharp thoughts sliced him any time he grew still long enough for them to strike. Too many wants and needs left his skin overheated and pulling taut across his bones. So he slept only when his body gave out, and even then only for a few hours,

✨Azriel would beg on his knees for Elain

He’d beg on his knees for a chance to taste

✨Elain understand Azriel they can communicate silently

“Yes” Elain breathed, like she read the decision. Just this taste in the dead of the longest night of the year, where only the Mother might witness them.

Sooo yeah ide say we got a lot of foreshadowing and Elriel moments in Acosf.

The biggest clue of all is how she left Azriel & Elain unsettled and unresolved after his bonus chapter. The same way she left Cassian & Nesta unsettled and resolved in Acofas and then we got their book next. The same way she left Feyre & Rhysand Unsettled in Acotar and then we got their love story in the next book. Ya noticing a pattern here right?!?!

We’re not the ones who created this atmosphere

The ship war started becoming toxic the day Gwynriels decided to put their ship on the same level as Elriel or even Elucien.

Elain and Azriel have a mutual interest. They have romantic interactions and want to be together.

Elain and Lucien are linked because they are mates. Even though I’m not a fan of this ship, I stay objective because they are, unfortunately, tied by the mating bond.

Gwynriel is not on the same level as Elriel or Elucien.

It’s just an interpretation of the bonus chapter. There is nothing in the books that shows Gwyn and Azriel share anything significant.

They had five interactions related to training. They haven’t shared anything personal like Aelin and Rowan, nor have they built a particular bond in the books like them.

Azriel didn’t even worry about Gwyn when she was kidnapped, and that alone is enough for me to refute the theory that they are mates. Because yes, it’s a theory, not a fact. (Please make the difference)

All this to say that if Gwynriels stopped acting as if their ship was on the same level as Elucien or Elriel, there wouldn’t be any toxicity in this fandom.

Some people act confident as if their ship were confirmed when, in reality, they are the ones who created it.

Elain and Azriel : canon because they have a mutual interest.

Elain and Lucien : canon because they’re mates.

Gwyn and Azriel : not canon. This ship is based on a theory.

A theory that for me can be debunked by the fact that Lorcan and Aelin had similar interactions—which could simply mean it was magic—and by the fact that we know a mate reacts violently when their mate is in danger, yet Azriel never displayed such behavior with Gwyn. (And other things, like the fact that I don’t think an author would write a scene where the mate in question is begging on his knees for a woman who isn’t his mate knowing that he has met his mate.

In short, Gwynriel is not on the same level as Elucien or Elriel. This ship didn’t exist in the books—some people made it exist.

So once again, if some people stopped acting as if Gwynriel were on the same level as the other two ships, as if Gwyn and Az being mates were a fact and not just a theory, maybe this fandom would be a lot healthier.

But no, the Gwynriels chose to look down on Elriels, to act as if Elriel doesn’t exist, as if this ship isn’t even a possibility—which is absurd considering that Elain and Azriel are clearly interested in each other.

They behave as if Gwyn and Azriel being mates were a fact when it’s just a theory. They reduce Elain and Azriel’s relationship to lust and twist their romantic interactions.

They act as if the bonus chapter put an end to Elriel when, in reality, they are the ones who interpreted it that way. An interpretation is not a fact.

So yes, in the end, we’re getting tired of people who completely deny Elain and Azriel.

And they’ll say, « But Elriels are also confident »

The difference is that there’s a distinction between your ship and mine. One ship shares a mutual interest, and the other doesn’t.

And because people will say, « But don’t forget about Rowan/Aelin/Chaol or Chaol/Nesryn/Yrene » all it takes is rereading the books to see that these situations are nowhere near comparable to Lucien/Elain/Azriel. The fact alone that Lucien and Elain are mates, yet Elain wants Azriel and Azriel wants Elain, already makes this situation different from any other love triangle.

So I don’t even understand the Gwynriels who rely on TOG couples to reassure themselves or justify their confidence.
