Today is awful. So maybe Lenny looking around at his life and being happy with midge and the kids.
It's a tight fit in the bungalow these days, but it's fun to be on top of each other like this. Midge and Lenny, Abe and Rose and the four kids.
He likes to spend late nights out on the porch, watching the stars reflect off the lake.
Convictions overturned, Supreme Court doing their fucking job in making sure the police can't arrest him for speaking to a paying audience as of last year, he's been working nearly nonstop. There's been a lot of gigs. Good paying gigs. High profile gigs. Interviews, articles, TV offers.
And he could be working now. So could Midge. But they'd collectively decided on a break, so for the first time in a few years, they're back at the Catskills.
And he hates to admit how much he likes it. How beautiful it is up in the mountains. How peaceful it is when someone isn't trying to drag him out of his hammock to do an activity.
How good it is to spend so much time with the kids.
He's been feeling a little guilty, working so much. Missing out, but this is good. Sarah is four now and old enough to remember this summer. Kitty is twelve, and has found two other little girls to hang around and giggle with, but she still makes time to go fishing with him some mornings. Ethan will be thirteen and Bar Mitzvah'd in the fall, and he's been spending his time on the baseball diamond with a big group of other kids, taking Esther with him when she feels like it. She's been flitting around a lot, playing with the other kids, hanging out at the salon with her mother.
And it's nice.
It's all nice.
Lenny pulls a cigarette from his pack and lights it, taking a drag. "The fuck did I get here?" he mutters to himself.
"Headed north out of the city," Midge says quietly from the door.
He looks up and grins sheepishly. "Hey."
She smiles and wanders over, sitting next to him on the porch seat. "Hi. It's nice out tonight."
"It is."
"You okay?" Midge asks as he hands her his cigarette for a drag.
"Mhm," he mutters. "Just enjoying the quiet. Y'know. One can only handle so many of Moishe's pu-pu platter jokes."
She laughs softly as she hands the cigarette back, and he smiles, sitting back.
"I'm glad we decided to do this," Midge tells him. "I know it's weird and the gossip is ridiculous, but this has been fun."
"Yeah," Lenny agrees. "As an added bonus: Pauly is terrified of us."
"Well, between the two famously dirty comedians, the Upper West Side's premiere matchmaker, and the scourge of the Broadway plays, we're pretty scary," Midge grins. "I tried so hard to fit in and be perfect when Joel and I were married, and I never realized how much fun it is to be the opposite and scare the bejesus out of people."
He laughs softly, a short sound, and nods. "We still fit in okay. We clean up good for dinner. You still do your dance challenges. People here still love you. Just not Pauly. Or Buzz."
Midge cuddles up to him. "Fuck Buzz."
"I'd be awfully jealous if you did," he tells her teasingly. "I'm very partial to this thing we have going here."
She pecks his lips. "Me, too."
"Think Sarah will want to go play with the other kids tomorrow?" Lenny asks.
Midge shakes her head. "Not a chance."
He sighs softly. "Oh, well. I guess she'll just have to come fishing with me, and go with you to the salon and go with Abe to play games. Such a terrible life she's leading."
Midge chuckles a little and cuddles in against him. "Just awful."
"We should be locked up for our abhorrent parenting skills," he jokes, wrapping his arm around her.

I feel like showing off my vinyl collection, feel free to show me yours!
I'm an avid 70s/80s/90s collector, and deeply wish I could've been alive for all of that, most of my vinyls are 70s/80s, some older, some newer. Some are 100% vintage, others are newly made/released. My dad (who brought me up on literally everything 70s and 80s) got me a record player for Christmas and helped me start my collection, since then it's grown rapidly.
First I must show off my RDR2 vinyls, with Marty Robbins' "Gunfighter Ballads", his songs are perfect to listen to while playing RDR2, "Big Iron" being one of my favorites.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dad got me all 3 of my Queen albums for Christmas, as he knows that Queen is perhaps my favorite band of all time, I've been trying to find vintage vinyls of their albums rather than the newly remade ones, haven't had much luck yet but we will get there. :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Did I mention that my dad and I are diehard Gordon Lightfoot fans? "Summertime Dream" and "Sundown" are perhaps my favorite albums. Lightfoot's song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" holds a special place in my heart. While the song is based off of a true story, about the tragic sinking of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald on Lake Superior, this song has a deeper connection with me. My dad, my Uncle Rob, and my Uncle Rodney, they loved this song so much, they would sit and listen to it on repeat for hours and hours mesmerized by the story that it told, along with Lightfoot's iconic voice, and the instruments itself. This was their group song essentially. Unfortunately, on July 25, 2019 (a year ago this coming Saturday), my Uncle Rodney lost his battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), he was only 49 years old, a year younger than my dad. It was something we would never expect happen to any of us, let alone him. Uncle Rodney went out of his way for everyone, he'd help everyone whenever he could and would never ask for or expect anything in return. He put his family first, he loved and cared for his kids the best he could, he worked his ass off hand crafting furniture out of cedar wood, and adding onto his home and designing it just the way a true country boy could ever want it, he was dedicated to his job, his family, and his friends. Hard to believe it will be a whole year this weekend, not a day goes by where I don't think about him, he was like a second dad to me, and I greatly wished that I'd had more time with him, especially hugs, he gave the best hugs.
However he'd want me to carry on and continue to be happy, and it was hard the first few months after he passed, I went into a depression spell, and starting coming out of it in February, and then I met the man who is now my boyfriend. I don't know if it was just coincidence, or if Uncle Rodney had a hand in all of it, but I shit you not, my boyfriend reminds me so much of him, including my dad. My family absolutely loves him and has taken him in already, and I've never been this happy. But alas, this isn't supposed to be my life's story, but some of these records mean so much to me, and Lightfoot's records will forever hold a special place in my heart, for the very sole reason you just read about.
Tumblr media
Moving on! These are some great records I found on a clearance rack at a record store, all under $5 a piece! My grandpa is a huge John Denver fan, so he very much appreciates it when he stops by our house and hears me blasting that album from my room haha. My boyfriend loves The Oak Ridge Boys, and let me tell you, he can sing the oom poppa mow mows in the song "Elvira" perfectly, and I melt everytime haha. Rosanne Cash, her music gets played constantly whenever we are having a party at my Uncle Rob's house, so when I hear her voice, it makes me want to go down there and have a great time. The Outlaws, I only recently discovered them but I really enjoy this album in particular, "You Are the Show" is perhaps my favorite song on the album, I sing this one a lot no matter how terrible I may be at it, I can't help it lol.
Ah yes, more classics. My dad really enjoys when I decide to blast my CCR album (a birthday present from my boyfriend). "Fortunate Son" is probably my dad's favorite CCR song, and it is definitely his theme song. Boston and Molly Hatchet are two of my other favorites for sure, including Chicago, it has been awhile since I listened to them, but they sure are fun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh these three here I love talking about. I mean, who doesn't love Footloose and Dirty Dancing? The Footloose record is vintage, the Dirty Dancing one is a newly released version, but I ended up buying it anyways as the record itself is that purple color of awesomeness. The Quiet Riot one I found at an antique store, my favorite album of theirs, and because it's a picture vinyl, I had to have it. It looks kickass watching it on the record player.
Tumblr media
Any Fleetwood Mac fans? My witchy sisters, this is our music. I can actually sing Stevie Nicks pretty decently, my boyfriend absolutely loves it when I do. "Tango in the Night" is my favorite Fleetwood Mac album, I listen to this record religiously. Once I listened to it on repeat for about 3 days straight, and my dad eventually had to tell me to switch to a different record because he was ready to hear some other great music 😂 The song "Twisted" which Stevie sang with Lindsey Buckingham, was part of the 1996 movie "Twister" with Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. My favorite movie, and my favorite Stevie Nicks song, might I also mention that I'm a weather nut and also studying for a degree in meteorology? Yeah, I also chase tornadoes, hence why "Twister" is my favorite movie.
Tumblr media
And last but not least, these two little guys. Tiësto is perhaps my favorite DJ of all time, his classic hits and even the new ones, always give me such a vibe that is so enjoyable. My favorite mix of his? "Silence" by Delerium with Sarah Maclachlan, this was one of Tiësto's "In Search of Sunrise" mixes, and I still get absolute chills hearing it.
Tumblr media
Oh yes, I forgot to add, a bunch of the vintage vinyls I bought, I got at Guestroom Records in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma while I was there back in May. They have a giant clearance section with records under $5, and of course they have all the newly released music, and even full collection sets. My favorite part? They also have a beautiful kitty cat that lives at the store and he/she is such a lovely kitty. So if you're in OKC and wanna buy some vinyls? This is your place.
So that's all of my vinyls I have so far! I hope you enjoyed seeing my collection, and reading about why they mean so much to me, I hope I didn't bore you too much with them haha. Again, feel free to show me some of yours! Tell me why they mean so much to you! :)

A Whole New World
Tumblr media
Author’s note: Thank you! Thank you, babe! I had so much fun writing this I hope you like it! And in line with the recent Father’s day celebration, I decided to put a little twist to the story ;)
Warnings: none
Description: MC tells the tale of Prince Jumin Han.
Masterlist // Requests // Buy Me a Milktea?
Milestone Fairytale AU Celebration
The storm was unyielding outside. MC frowned, her anxiety building with every minute that passed. Her husband was supposed to be home hours ago. However, due to the unexpected arrival of a hurricane his flight was postponed, leaving him stranded at the airport of some far away land. Lightning flashed and thunder followed soon after, shaking up the sky like some big lumbering giant had started to stumble up his castle in the heavens. MC perked up when she heard a squeak by the door, not entirely surprised at her young daughter’s head peeking through the small gap of between the eaves.
“What are you doing up, sweetie?”
“I want to wait for daddy,” her daughter’s voice was as timid as a lamb’s her round features accentuated by the dark hair that framed her face. MC couldn’t help but copy her softness, carefully standing up from the bed to where her daughter stood. MC bent down and almost immediately the young girl of four lifted up her arms, expecting to be picked up.
“Honey, daddy is still travelling he won’t be back until much later. So maybe it’s best if you go to sleep.”
Cradled in her mother’s arms, MC and Jumin’s daughter nuzzled  her nose along the hollow of MC’s throat, shaking her head no. “I don’t want to sleep, not without daddy.”
MC couldn’t help but sigh as she reached her daughter’s bedroom. Refusing to be put down, the young child remained in her mother’s embrace, stubbornly latching her arms around her mother’s neck. MC honestly blames Jumin for their daughter’s behavior. He spoils her rotten. In their current position MC decided to sit down on the bed with their daughter still in her arms.
“Okay,” MC shifted her daughter in her arms, so that she was looking down at her, “how about I tell you a story?”
Her daughter looked up, suddenly interested, “What kind?”
“Well, we could read one of your books--”
“I don’t like them,” the young girl buried her face on MC’s shoulder.
“Why not? They’re full of magic and princesses--”
“Lame princesses!” she said defiantly cutting her mother off, “They don’t do anything except wait around for things to happen to them! I don’t like that!”
“Okay,” MC struggled to contain her laughter, her daughter really was something, “okay no lame princesses.”
MC’s daughter nodded fervently in agreement, “Yeah! I want a fun princess! Strong and brave!”
The little girl squealed in realization “I want a princess like daddy!”
“But daddy is a boy, sweetie,” MC tried to argue but of course, her daughter was not having it.
“Then make the story about a boy princess!”
“That’s called a prince, sweetie.”
The child blinked up blankly at MC. Okay, maybe that lesson should be for later. MC thought about how she would begin her story--rather Jumin’s story. How do you tell the story of a prince with Jumin in mind. She had to laugh at that thought. Jumin was already a prince. She just needed to gain some inspiration from experience.
“Okay,” MC cuddled her daughter close bringing a blanket over them, “once upon a time...
there was a young prince named Jumin Han. He lived in a palace that overlooked the kingdom, made of alabaster and gold. His father, the king, loved Jumin very much and thought that it was time for the young prince to get married.
MC’s daughter latched on to every word, her wide eyes sparkling with intrigue. This allowed MC to continue the story with fervor.
“Jumin, my son,” said the king, “it is time for you to wed a bride. I have found someone suitable woman for you, a student of my most trusted advisor! Her name is Sarah and it would please me if you would take the time to meet her.”
“What did he say?”
“Patience little, one.” MC chided, dotingly.
Prince Jumin was not happy with the sudden mention of marriage. He knew nothing of this woman and did not want to know her either. This led to a fierce argument between the father and son.
“I am only looking at your best interest at heart, please consider this.”
“Did you ever take the time to consider my thoughts on the matter?” the prince answered back, clearly angry with his father’s decision, “I am not one of your commodities.”
Steaming the young prince took off to find comfort in his trusted friend--uh--the rare siberian white tiger, Elizabeth III.
The child giggled at the mention of the family pet. The said feline stretched leisurely on the foot of the bed. Her bright blue eyes looked amused. MC smiled back and  then continued her story.
Prince Jumin was upset. He needed to get away from the suffocating palace. So, when night fell, Prince Jumin replaced his expensive royal clothes with simple commoner’s clothes so that no one woul recognize him.He wore a hooded cloak over it just to be sure and then snuck out of the palace.
It was nothing like he’d ever seen before. The prince had spent his whole life in the palace. The busy streets were a treat for his eyes. The prince roamed around the and saw vendors selling every kind of thing he could think of--jewelry, food, pots and pans. In one stand he saw a man selling fish. Beside the stall he saw three kittens and the their mother mewling hungrily. The kind prince took pity on the small creatures. Without thinking of the consequences, the prince grabbed the handsomest fish from the pile and gave it to the kittens.
“I hope this would help you,” he said to the cats and he swore that the mother meowed at him gratefully.
Satisfied with his good deed, the prince started to leave to continue his adventure around the city. That was, until a harsh hand grabbed him.
“You better pay for that,” a bearded man with a raspy voice asked, gripping Prince Jumin’s wrist tightly.
“I don’t have any money,” he admitted, a little confused. Usually, everything he asked for was free. What was different now?
“Fool!” the man bellowed alerting everyone around them, “you can’t just take what you want and not pay, you peasant!”
“There must be some mistake!” Jumin struggled with the man’s tight grasp, “if you could let me go, then I would ask money from the King!”
The man growled, pinning the Prince’s hand on a stone slab, he brandish a large sword above the air and with a scary voice yelled, “Do you know what the punishment is for stealing?!”
“No!” the child cried, jumping up on MC’s lap, “he was helping the kitty! He left his money at the palace because he changed clothes!”
“Yes,” MC said sadly, “but the man didn’t know that. No one knew that he was a prince in disguise.”
The man held up his sword and was ready to chop off the prince’s hand but then the sword vanished, confusing the fish vendor.
“Thank you so much!” a voice sad from right beside them, “I have been looking everywhere for you!”
The prince looked up to see a woman, holding the sword behind her back. Of all the wonders he had seen in this new world, she was by far the most beautiful one. She caught him looking at him and surprised him when she smiled at him as if they had known each other for a long time.
MC winked at her daughter and the young girl giggled, realising that another one of her favorite people had come into the story--her own mother.
“Do you know this man?” the fish vendor asked the beautiful young woman.
“Yes!” she said, “this is my brother. Thank you for looking after him! He’s not quite right in the head.”
Prince Jumin was about to argue but the  girl silenced him with a sharp look. She grabbed the prince away from the fish vendor and placed him protectively behind her.
“He said he knew the king.”
“He thinks the cat is the king.” she rolled her eyes and looked pointedly at Jumin.
Realizing the gravity of the situation the prince decided to played along, and bowed down to the cats on the alley, “O-oh wise King! How may I serve you?”
“See?” the girl said tightly holding on to Jumin, “no harm no foul. Good bye!”
With that they bolted down the street, the prince still confused at this mysterious girl who had saved him.
“What happened next!” the little girl demanded now completely out of MC’s embrace. From across the room, standing along the open doorway Jumin answered.
“The prince fell in love with the girl.”
“Daddy!” their daughter squealed in glee, not waiting a minutte longer, MC laughed as she watched the four year old ran towards Jumin, leaping into his arms.
“How long have you been listening to the story?” MC asked her husband, a little embarrassed.
“Long enough,” Jumin chuckled, “what an interesting story.”
“Daddy, do you know how the story goes?” the child’s tiny hands were on either sides of Jumin’s face, gently calling for her father’s attention. She obviously was still not ready to sleep. “Maybe you and momma can tell it together!”
Jumin kissed his daughter’s temple, a fond look in his eyes as he glanced at her and then his wife “I already know how it ends.”

Mastering the Art of the Tablescape
When a room is nearly finished and all the major pieces of furniture are in place, there’s one thing you need to make the space feel complete: an artfully arranged tablescape, or grouping of objects on a console, coffee, side or center table.
“The poetry of a room is often found in these more intimate details,” said Dan Fink, an interior designer in New York. “Styling is about bringing a sense of personal beauty, and heart, to a room. The personality of the space, and the person who lives in it, can come through in personal objects.”
Empty tabletops, by comparison, often feel unfinished. “A room without accessories or styling is soulless,” said Sarah Bartholomew, an interior designer in Nashville. “Styling a table makes a room feel finished and lived in. It’s a way to personalize your home while adding depth and style.”
That’s harder than it sounds. The tablescapes that designers create for their clients may look effortless, but they require more than a little thought and effort. So how do you create a tablescape that looks artful, not awkward? We asked interior designers and home stagers to share their strategies.
Find Inspiration
A tabletop is an ideal place to express your personality and showcase your collections with a little decorative flair. A tablescape, Mr. Fink said, should be “a combination of all of the things that reflect one’s life and personal interests.”
In his case, that means tables scattered with nautical instruments; lion sculptures and prints (Leo is his astrological sign); objects that evoke his Austrian heritage; gifts from his husband, the interior designer Thomas O’Brien; and objects and books that recall Paris, a favorite city.
Or look to the key colors and materials in a room to inform the pieces you select to display on tables, suggested Steven Gambrel, an interior designer in New York, who collects curiosities while traveling and uses them as accessories in his projects.
“If you have a beautiful blue-glazed wall, and there’s a blue-glazed vessel on the table, it brings the wall closer to you,” he said. “It brings the big picture, which is the room, down to a smaller scale.”
When a tablescape isn’t working, he added, “it usually has to do with a missing color or material.”
Plan the Composition
Creating a tablescape is more art than science, and there are many ways to go about it. Few designers aim for complete symmetry, but most try to achieve a sense of balance or order across the composition.
“Look at the paintings of Morandi or other artists who were good at composition,” Mr. Gambrel said. “Sometimes the corner will be taller, and then it works its way down” to smaller objects toward the front and the other side of the table.
“You want to ensure there’s balance between the items,” Ms. Bartholomew said. “Sometimes I divide a square coffee table into four quadrants. Two kitty-corner quadrants might have stacks of books for balance, and then I’ll put a large vessel or bowl on the third quadrant and an interesting object, like a bone-inlay hurricane or something collected, in the fourth quadrant.”
Other approaches include placing the tallest pieces at the center of the table and working toward smaller objects at the edges, or creating two clusters of objects at either end of a rectangular table and leaving the center relatively open.
Start With Something Tall
Most successful tablescapes have objects of varying heights, with the tallest item often setting the tone for the composition.
“I usually start with something tall at the center of the table, or off to one side, and then work from there,” said Meridith Baer, the founder of Meridith Baer Home, a home-staging company with offices across the country. “For height, I like to bring in a statue, a nice floral or a lamp. The higher the ceiling, the more height you can bring in on a table.”
After situating the tallest object, she said, “I lay out the still life in relation to that piece.”
Mix Materials
The best tablescapes become more interesting the closer you get to them. One of the ways to create that kind of appeal is to include objects made with varying materials, textures and finishes.
“I like to combine things that are rough and fine, old and new, ancient and modern,” Mr. Fink said. “It’s about different juxtapositions. Perhaps it’s glass and crystal with pottery and ceramics, or stone with wood and metals.”
Most designers also like to include something natural, like plants or flowers. “I always love having something alive,” Ms. Bartholomew said. “Every vignette cannot always have flowers, but you can find ferns and plants that are low-maintenance. When you’re entertaining, it’s a moment for cut flowers from your garden.”
Use Books Creatively
A few handsome coffee-table books on art, design, fashion or travel can be pleasing to look at while also communicating your interests. And small stacks of books can be used as mini-pedestals to elevate decorative objects.
Some designers use books in a way that shows off more than their spines and covers. Cheryl Eisen, the founder of the New York-based design and home-staging firm Interior Marketing Group, often places open books on tables to call attention to favorite pages.
“I love an interesting art book — like a giant book of Picasso photographs I have — and I’ll have it open on a bookstand,” she said. “It’s an interesting conversation piece, because it’s open to a specific page and invites a conversation. And I change it to different pages all the time.”
Or she’ll try to find a page that picks up on colors in the room: “We’ll open the book to a page that matches the color story we want to tell.”
Create Groupings of Objects
Small groupings of objects within a larger tablescape can add visual interest.
“I like a small cluster of the same kind of object — maybe three or five things, with different heights,” Ms. Baer said. “A grouping of candlesticks, pieces of pottery from the same period or tiny carved statues from Indonesia. Right now, on my coffee table I have a few Chinese vases that are all in celadon colors, but in different shapes.”
To reinforce a grouping, the objects can be set on a tray, in a bowl or on top of a piece of stone.
“I’m keen on trays that have an inch-and-a-half- or two-inch edge to them,” Mr. Gambrel said. “It cleans up the composition. It frames the objects in the same way that a frame works with a painting.”
And “if you do two trays” on a single tabletop, he added, “the space you’ve created between the trays is also a great place for an object.”
Add a Sculptural Note
“One trick, for sure, is to bring in an organic shape,” Mr. Gambrel said, as a foil to objects with geometric forms. “Perhaps a piece of driftwood in the country, or a bronze sculpture with an irregular shape in the city. Those curvy shapes pull all the other pieces together.”
At his house in the Hamptons, for example, he has “a particularly gnarly driftwood piece on my table outside, under a covered porch,” he said. “It scoops around a hurricane and another vessel, and ties the whole thing together.”
It’s the variation in shape, he said, that “helps to make a composition a little more sophisticated, and loosens things up.”
Look Beyond the Tabletop
Once you have selected the accessories to display on a table, take a step back and consider the spaces around the table. The appearance of a console, in particular, will be affected by the objects mounted on the wall behind or placed underneath.
“You need to think through the entire vignette,” Ms. Bartholomew said. “Often I’ll put a basket underneath, or a potted fern. It’s something to finish it out, so there are no holes.”
Mr. Gambrel said he frequently hangs art above a console or corner table, with the specific objective of completing a tablescape. As a result, the art is not always centered over the table, and may be mounted lower on the wall than expected.
“It’s all put together like a collage,” he said. “You just play around with the pieces until it looks good.”

37 Hilarious Phrases Parents Say to Avoid Cursing in Front of Kids
Dean Drobot/Shutterstock
“Mrs. Andersen? We need to talk about your son’s new favorite word.” I’ll never forget that phone call from the preschool teacher of my adorable, cherub-cheeked four-year-old. Like many kids his age, my son had discovered a fun new word and wanted to use it all the time—and the fact that it got a major reaction from all the adults around him made it just that much better. The word? Motherf*****.
The day prior, I’d been bending over to tie his shoe when his older brother threw open the front door, nailing me right between the eyes with the metal doorknob. I’m not much of a curser but there’s nothing like pain so searing that you see stars (literally) to make a mom lose her, um, shiznits. I let out a string of curse words that would make a sailor blush. And of course, my kiddo remembered the best one.
When he got home that day, we had to have a long talk about appropriate language and I learned as much of a lesson as he did. If you don’t want to hear your toddler call their friend a “d*****bag” then you’d better not say it in front of him. As a parent, your creativity is one of your best skills—and we don’t just mean with Play-Doh. Here are some of our favorite swear-substitutes real parents use.
1. “My curse words come out sounding like a mix of Yosemite Sam, the Swedish Chef, and (before we knew what a horrible person he truly is) Bill Cosby, along the lines of Flootin’ frappin’ shligmen durnkin!” —Ted Williams
2. “I will call someone a ‘Richard’ as shorthand for ‘d*ck.’ My twins and several adult friends actually think my boss’s real name is Richard.” —Tracey Having a “creative vocabulary” is one of the 11 surprising signs you’ll make a great parent someday.
3. “The other day I dropped something in the kitchen and, because I could see my son watching me, I exclaimed, ‘Ugh, fork me!’. He thought it was so silly; I was glad it was safe.” —Kylie Larson
4. “Once, when I was opening a fizzy drink, it sprayed purple juice all over the bench top, the floor, the ceiling, and my clothes. ‘F…’ I started to say until I felt three sets of little eyes staring at me. I immediately changed it to ‘F… or coughs and colds take medicine!’ It was so funny that now we just use ‘for coughs and colds’ to express frustration.” —Nate Hamon
5. “Shut the f*** up used to be a part of my pre-kids vocabulary but now it’s ‘shut the front door!‘ which is way funnier anyhow.” —Amber Graves (Here’s why kids behave so much worse at home.)
6. “During the Great Lice Outbreak of 2015 (from which our household will forever be scarred), I discovered my new favorite phrase ‘holy cannoli!’ It replaced holy sh*t whenever I found another bug and it’s even better because it rhymes.” —Maryrose DeGroot
7. “My son once told friends from church that ‘my daddy says the F-word all the time at home.’ I had to quickly explain that I say ‘fart’ instead, and that’s what we call ‘the F word’!” —Tor Bailey

Award-winning author Sarah Beth Durst has been praised for her captivating novels that merge the darkly imagined with very real themes of self-discovery and destiny. In The Lost, we'll discover just what it means to lose one's way…. It was only meant to be a brief detour. But then Lauren finds herself trapped in a town called Lost on the edge of a desert, filled with things abandoned, broken and thrown away. And when she tries to escape, impassible dust storms and something unexplainable lead her back to Lost again and again. The residents she meets there tell her she's going to have to figure out just what she's missing—and what she's running from—before she can leave. So now Lauren's on a new search for a purpose and a destiny. And maybe, just maybe, she'll be found…. Against the backdrop of this desolate and mystical town, Sarah Beth Durst writes an arresting, fantastical novel of one woman's impossible journey…and her quest to find her fate.
#1 New York Times Bestseller * An Amazon Best Book of the Year There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from acclaimed author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books, This Savage Song is a must-have for fans of Holly Black, Maggie Stiefvater, and Laini Taylor. Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives. In This Savage Song, Victoria Schwab creates a gritty, seething metropolis, one worthy of being compared to Gotham and to the four versions of London in her critically acclaimed fantasy for adults, A Darker Shade of Magic. Her heroes will face monsters intent on destroying them from every side—including the monsters within.
This vividly rendered novel reads like HBO’s Game of Thrones . . . if it were set in the Ottoman Empire. Ambitious in scope and intimate in execution, the story’s atmospheric setting is rife with political intrigue, with a deftly plotted narrative driven by fiercely passionate characters and a fearsome heroine. Fans of Victoria Aveyard’s THE RED QUEEN and Sabaa Tahir’s AN EMBER IN THE ASHES won’t want to miss this visceral, immersive, and mesmerizing novel, the first in the And I Darken series. NO ONE EXPECTS A PRINCESS TO BE BRUTAL. And Lada Dragwlya likes it that way. Ever since she and her gentle younger brother, Radu, were wrenched from their homeland of Wallachia and abandoned by their father to be raised in the Ottoman courts, Lada has known that being ruthless is the key to survival. She and Radu are doomed to act as pawns in a vicious game, an unseen sword hovering over their every move. For the lineage that makes them special also makes them targets. Lada despises the Ottomans and bides her time, planning her vengeance for the day when she can return to Wallachia and claim her birthright. Radu longs only for a place where he feels safe. And when they meet Mehmed, the defiant and lonely son of the sultan, who’s expected to rule a nation, Radu feels that he’s made a true friend—and Lada wonders if she’s finally found someone worthy of her passion. But Mehmed is heir to the very empire that Lada has sworn to fight against—and that Radu now considers home. Together, Lada, Radu, and Mehmed form a toxic triangle that strains the bonds of love and loyalty to the breaking point. From New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White comes the first book in a dark, sweeping new series in which heads will roll, bodies will be impaled . . . and hearts will be broken.
The highly anticipated, mind-blowing New York Times bestselling sequel to Kiersten White’s New York Times bestseller, AND I DARKEN—the series that reads like HBO’s Game of Thrones . . . if it were set in the Ottoman Empire. A SISTER FILLED WITH RAGE Lada Dracul has no allies. No crown. All she has is what she’s always had: herself. After failing to secure the Wallachian throne, Lada is out to punish anyone who dares cross her. She storms the countryside with her men, but brute force isn’t getting Lada what she wants. And thinking of Mehmed, the defiant Ottoman sultan, brings little comfort to her thorny heart. There’s no time to wonder whether he still thinks about her, even loves her. She left him before he could leave her. HER BROTHER CAUGHT IN THE CROSSHAIRS Lada needs the support of her diplomatic younger brother, Radu. But Mehmed has sent him to Constantinople—and it’s no diplomatic mission. Mehmed wants control of the city, and Radu has earned an unwanted place as a double-crossing spy behind enemy lines. And for the first time in his life, when Lada asks him for help, he refuses . . . leading his sister to make the darkest of choices. THE ULTIMATE POWER PLAY Torn between loyalties to faith, to the Ottomans, and to Mehmed, Radu knows he owes Lada nothing. If she dies, he could never forgive himself—but if he fails in Constantinople, would Mehmed ever forgive him? As nations fall around them, the Dracul siblings must decide: what will they sacrifice to fulfill their destinies? Empires will topple, thrones will be won . . . and souls will be lost. Fans of Victoria Aveyard’s THE RED QUEEN and Sabaa Tahir’s A TORCH AGAINST THE NIGHT won’t want to miss this riveting and gorgeously written novel—the second in the And I Darken series.
I loved The Darkest Corners, you guys.
For fans of Pretty Little Liars, Little Monsters is a new psychological thriller, from the author of The Darkest Corners, about appearances versus reality and the power of manipulation amongst teenage girls. Kacey is the new girl in Broken Falls. When she moved in with her father, she stepped into a brand-new life. A life with a stepbrother, a stepmother, and strangest of all, an adoring younger half sister. Kacey’s new life is eerily charming compared with the wild highs and lows of the old one she lived with her volatile mother. And everyone is so nice in Broken Falls—she’s even been welcomed into a tight new circle of friends. Bailey and Jade invite her to do everything with them. Which is why it’s so odd when they start acting distant. And when they don’t invite her to the biggest party of the year, it doesn't exactly feel like an accident. But Kacey will never be able to ask, because Bailey never makes it home from that party. Suddenly, Broken Falls doesn’t seem so welcoming after all—especially once everyone starts looking to the new girl for answers. Kacey is about to learn some very important lessons: Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Sometimes when you’re the new girl, you shouldn’t trust anyone.
The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars in Gretchen McNeil’s witty and suspenseful novel about four disparate girls who join forces to take revenge on high school bullies and create dangerous enemies for themselves in the process. Bree, Olivia, Kitty, and Margot have nothing in common—at least that’s what they’d like the students and administrators of their elite private school to think. The girls have different goals, different friends, and different lives, but they share one very big secret: They’re all members of Don’t Get Mad, a secret society that anonymously takes revenge on the school’s bullies, mean girls, and tyrannical teachers. When their latest target ends up dead with a blood-soaked “DGM” card in his hands, the girls realize that they’re not as anonymous as they thought—and that someone now wants revenge on them. Soon the clues are piling up, the police are closing in . . . and everyone has something to lose.
