To start off with this oc is heavily influenced by Bungo Stray Dogs, Madoka Magica, Oshi no Ko, and Sasami's Magical Girl's Club.

Long long ago witches and humans lived in harmony. Magic was used in every aspect of mundane life, that was until a singular witch would ruin it all. A superiority complex none could dissuade, Aka would take over the world until she obrained her blood stained crown. And centuries would come to pass until she was overthrown. Falling her demise, witches were hunted or ostracized until the few remaing would return to their realm.

In the modern day, those with witch like abilities are known as Magical Girls who operate in small groups to conceal their identities and help the public. In one such group is Red. Her bubbly airhead attitude is a stark contrast to her powers.

When not working as a magical girl, Red is an idol [song doubles as her voice claim!] she struggles a lot with her self image and strives to be perfect. A puppet for the entertainment industry.

And what she views herself as is manifested best in her abilities, to make those around her puppets that obey her hallucinations.

Thinking about it...

Tenchi Muyo original OVAs -> Pretty Sammy voice dramas -> Pretty Sammy the Magical Girl music video in the Songfile -> Pretty Sammy playing a major role in the Mihoshi Special OVA -> Pretty Sammy episode in Shin! Tenchi Muyo/Tenchi Universe (adaptating the voice dramas) -> Pretty Sammy OVAs -> Pretty Sammy TV -> Sasami Magical Girls Club

(I think that's the order.)

These are all different continuities (unless you want to tie the dramas and Universe together). Each one played off of the ones before it but ultimately did its own thing. The identity and family situation of Sasami, her antagonists, the tone, and the stakes vary considerably.

Sasami Magical Girls Club is the biggest departure of the bunch, only "Pretty Sammy" in the sense that it's also a (completely Tenchi-less) Tenchi magical girl AU centered around Sasami, and it preserves Misao (a Sammy OVA and TV original) as the best friend turned dark magical girl rival. It's neither a magical warrior series nor a parody at all; it features the more classical magical girl concept of witches from another world.

I'm still waiting for them to give us more about the crowdfunded Pretty Sammy promo video project, which to my eyes appears to be yet another continuity entirely. It absolutely did not hit its funding goals, though, and was supposed to have been out in 2020. From what I saw, they just said it was delayed rather than cancelled, but I feel like this one's dead in the water, tragically. Or... perhaps blessedly, given the state of modern anime and the nature of the last few Tenchi products. Still a bit of a bummer, though.

As in, Sasami Magical Girls Club? I'm vaguely aware of its existence, but since it's a spin-off of a large non-magical girl franchise I'm not familiar with (at least I think so?) it's not as appealing to me as stories that stand entirely on their own. I do like that it has a distinct art style and I think the outfits are fine too. Cute wing round wing shapes, and some unusual colour schemes too!
