Tag games!
thank you for tagging me Gabe!
Fave colour: Currently I'm obsessed with sailor shikiori inks so, pink (from Sakura Mori) and orange (from Kin Mokusei). But usually, salmon or rose pink.
Currently reading: Superman in the Fifties
Last song: Tinariwen (+IO:I) - Sastanàqqàm has been on repeat since I heard it on Future Man
Sweet/Spicy/Savory: Spicy and savory! Sweets - gotta be cold drinks.
Fav alcoholic drink: Never trained to handle alcohol properly so I don't drink anything alcoholic. Also a teacher thoroughly scared our class in middle school. ... considering i’ve never had sex or a relationship, i think the abstinence-only thing worked a little too well 😭
Tradicional or modern: (in terms of architecture) both have their place in a city.
Favourite writer: Arundhati Roy, Ryu Murakami & Salman Rushdie
Favourite dessert: Chocolate sundaes, baklava, apple crumble, kulfi
Favourite rapper: Snoop & Flav
Favourite soccer/hockey/tennis player: I don't follow sportsball and childhood heroes have been steadily letting me down 😂😂
Colours of my bedrooms: Cream
Favourite politician: Dangerous to idealize anyone but in terms of people I look up to, Jimmy Carter.
Loyalty or lust: Loyalty with UST and undisclosed lust.
Pizza or pasta: Pizza!
Vegan/Veggie: Wish they weren't so hard to prep and cook cuz vegan food is pricey.
Favourite time period: The 90s (if going by what I remember), the 70s based on TV & Movies
Love or hate: Both are dangerous (so naturally, both)
Last series watched: Beyond Evil (done), Future Man (in the middle of S2)
Classical or Rock: More of a Pop person.
GOT or LOTR: LOTR because I loved that world. GOT - I got lost somewhere in S5 or S6 where Jon Snow was fighting the White Walkers on a very tall wall..
Fairy or dragons: Dragons are really cool.
To tag - anyone who wants to have a go!!

Weekly World Music: “Sastanàqqàm” - Tinariwen
Tinariwen (translating to something along the lines of the "The Desert Boys" in the Tamashek language) began in 1985, when its original members met whilepart of a Libyan Tuareg rebel army. According to Wikipedia "the musicians joined together in a collective ... to create songs about the issues facing the Tuareg people ... and vowed to record music for free for anyone who supplied a blank cassette tape." After the 1990 revolt, members left the army and decided to commit themselves to music full time.
Wikipedia states that "the core elements of Tinariwen's music are traditional Tuareg melodies and rhythms including those played on the shepherd's flute, which is primarily a man's instrument; and those played on a one-string fiddle known as an imzad which is played by women. The primary percussion instrument is the tindé drum which is played by women at festive occasions. Another important traditional influence is the lute (known as the teherdent) which is played by the griots of the Gao and Timbuktu regions."
The band describes “Sastanàqqàm” as “an ode to the Sahara and its Nomads. It expresses the needs of the traveller as he crosses the desert on his mount. Essential needs: find water and a way to preserve it, find a good mode of transport. But also the love-hate relationship with the desert, the natural elements and the certainty that we will always go back to it.”
Lyrics:
Ténéré sastanàqqàm Indek tifut n- imidiwàn Tiled tasnit, tiled achàkwa Aynayàn wàràn issindjày Tissanàd tabaràt S- àkkoz itran dàgh ichinnawàn Chorus Ténéré sastanàqqàm Indek tifut n-imidiwàn Tissanàd umàgh i-aman Dàgh-idàggàn wàràn anfalàl Tissanàd asissinkàr Dat adu indid inkàr Chorus Ténéré sastanàqqàm Indek immik was mad nàrti Nàkk d- kàmm wàr nànmàksàn Nàkk idjodadàgh nilmàd tekle Isikilàn djer ikallàn Ténéré Ténéré Ténéré naghehàd-kàmm
English Translation:
Ténéré, can you tell me of anything better Than to have your friends and your mount, And a brand new goatskin, watertight, To find your way by the light Of the four bright stars of heaven, To know how to find water in The unlikeliest of places, And enlist the momentum of the wind To help you move forward. Tell me, Ténéré, how you and I Can remain united, with no hate for each other. Ténéré, I can now admit that I have travelled far through this wide world. Ténéré, I give you my oath That as long as I’m alive, I will always come back to you.

Tinariwen (+IO:I) - Sastanàqqàm
“A thousand miles from their homeland in northern Mali, across a vast expanse of desert, the music of Tinariwen has found shelter in the hearts of six young musicians from M’hamid el Ghizlane. They were only boys when the desert rockers first visited their home, back in 2006, but they saw an immediate reflection of their own dreams and aspirations in the music they heard. In the years that followed they learned the Tinariwen songbook note for note, word for word, even though they couldn’t speak a word of Tamashek, the language of the Touareg.
youtube
When Tinariwen returned to M’hamid in 2016 to record a new album, those young disciples from M’hamid had achieved a remarkable mastery of the desert guitar repertoire. The torch had been passed from hand to hand and heart to heart across the great desert.  The young musicians from M’hamid were invited to perform Abdallah’s ‘Sastaqanam’, standing in for their older brothers and playing with uncanny fidelity. But first the members of Tinariwen wrapped new turbans around the heads of their young acolytes, marking not only the passage from boyhood to manhood according to ancient desert custom, but also the transmission of their music across the generations, a transmission that is taking place in the hearts of youth from every corner of the great Sahara.” SASTANÀQQÀM (I QUESTION YOU) Ténéré, can you tell me of anything better Than to have your friends and your mount, And a brand new goatskin, watertight,  To find your way by the light Of the four bright stars of heaven, To know how to find water in The unlikeliest of places, And enlist the momentum of the wind To help you move forward.  Tell me, Ténéré, how you and I Can remain united,  with no hate for each other. Ténéré, I can now admit that I have travelled far through this wide world. Ténéré, I give you my oath That as long as I’m alive,  I will always come back to you.
