plus, all but what, 2 or 3 days? of the time Max has actually been friends with El, and of the quality sibling time Will has spent with El, she's been without her powers anyway. without any world-saving going on, she's just a gentle quiet kid who's very behind on love and social skills and the ways of the world. I love the idea of Max and Will having so much fun showing her things that are utterly commonplace to them, and patiently teaching her stuff they've all known since they were little.

the scene of max confessing to vecna that she actually wanted something to happen to billy before the whole plot unfolded was honestly the realest part of the whole story. I don't know about the others, but a character wishing something bad on someone who hurt them and then feeling bad because something actually happened is something I don't see explored in teen shows these days. usually they focus on the hero wanting to save everyone or the villain's redemption or whatever, but YES, people are allowed to feel that way about someone else who has wronged them and that doesn't make them a bad person

The company I want to be at only goes up to T4 instead of T5 like my last spot, which, still works for me, but, maybe for only the next 2 years?...max...was kinda hoping to go for maybe even a T5 position at my next place, but T4 sounds good, especially since it's a new company?...Idk if that is me being conservative & safe22 or insecure

The company I want to be at allows you to do a 6 month fellowship at a non-profit! I've always wanted to work at a non-profit but was afraid of the money situation. This is great news! It looks like an even better choice!

Next month, I'll have to pay for transportation and all of my phone bill, both of which were covered by my job...and the Black tech professional org I was in outside of work I probably cannot participate in because usually I get my job to cover the almost $400 membership, but I need every dolla right now, and I don't want to get to a point next year where I regret that I paid for membership...True, I could dip into my savings for it, but maybe I just need to sit it out next year...I can't keep telling myself, 'Well you have savings and you'll have a job soon to re-up"...or can I??

My company actually paid pretty well compared to other companies in the industry...I just was not getting paid what I wanted to because of my age and what I SHOULD be getting if I didn't make a career transition...

Feeling

Slightly nervous and anxious, but much better than last week. Like, I did my dishes, meal prep, juiced, had a work-related meeting, took some calls, redid my schedule. With SOOO many people laid off, sometimes I worry if I will get a job in 6 months with so much more competition and with hiring generally slowing down for the next 3 months, but, I'm trying not to worry. I am also wondering if I should be helping others more, because so many people are reaching out to help me.

I also feel determined.

I don't want to let myself down...I've been trying to learn these concepts for years but they always get put on the back burner. I have no choice now, but I hope it doesn't take me MONTHS to get my act together...or understand the concepts well enough

I wonder if I need to take the rest of this week off just to relax...And if I do so, I need to do it without feeling guilt/lazy or like "time's a wastin'"...

I don't know what he's up against though. He may be trying to avoid being next on the chopping block...but nuh un sir. The disrespect...GOTTA protect my energy because a lot of people are masking as being helpful but are really being self-serving, even when they know it's a sensitive time; very few TRULY GAF about you, but you have to GAF about yourself and your peace

Wait, I thought this whole time that season 4 was the last season of Stranger Things! That’s why I got so excited I couldn’t sleep (also, I feared seeing spoilers if I didn’t watch the finale right away). But there has to be a new season after this one. It ended on a big cliffhanger.

Sadly, Jonathan and Nancy are not off the hook yet! They ended up together, of course, but there was no time to break them up anyway. Knowing there’s gonna be a new season means there’s a huge chance Stancy will be endgame. Nancy definitely loves Jonathan, and there was no hesitation on either of their parts to reunite and become attached at the hip again, but... Steve is the preferred character, so the question is whether they want him to get the girl and live happily ever after, or, in alternative, become the martyr and further elevate his status as the cool hero everyone loves and who deserved better, an “underdog” of sorts - it seems they quite like making Steve the fake underdog. 

I think Steve sharing his dream life with Nancy showed they weren’t quite on the same boat in terms of goals, and Nancy looked sad, rather than enticed, by Steve’s confession. He might still die next season, otherwise this entire storyline with Nancy was weird. I think they’re either endgame or Steve will really die, but, like I said, they might just be making him the martyr. Or maybe they just wanted to create entertainment and test Jancy? It’s a bit ironic that, at first, Robin was the hopeless one while Steve and Nancy still had a fighting chance, but, then, the tables turned when Jonathan came back and the other girl’s boyfriend left town... Is this how the story ends? Jonathan and Nancy still have tons to talk about. There’s a distance between them now, because they were apart for so long and went through a lot separately - especially Nancy, who might be feeling a bigger connection, in a sense, to her fellow comrades this season, but Jonathan’s guilt is eating away at him too. However, Jonathan asked if they were okay, which means he wants them to be, and Nancy wants that too. Nancy will be upset about Jonathan’s lie, but they could still work it out. Having the world almost end puts things into perspective... 

Nevertheless, I fear they won’t be endgame and that saddens me. I love Steve a lot, but Jonathan and Nancy overcame so much together already, and I think they’re so cute together too! But I was glad Steve thanked Nancy for helping him grow. The end of a relationship isn’t just an ending but also a beginning - as cliché as that sounds. 

Moving on, it was obvious someone was gonna die, but I figured it would be Steve or Robin. It was only Eddie. I liked him, but I didn’t cry over him. His ending was pretty cliché and made little sense. What did he even accomplish by chasing the bats? They just wanted to kill someone off in a heroic way... I did cry when Dustin told Eddie’s uncle of his death. Dustin’s tears made me sad. (There’s still time for a major character to die though...)

I also cried two other times during this season finale. One was when Will and Jonathan talked. That shit was so moving and heartbreaking. Poor Will... But he’s lucky to have Jonathan. Jonathan’s awesome. 

The other time I cried was when Mike was talking to El who was in Max’s mind. He loves her so much! It’s so sweet. I love how his love saved her. He’s the heart... speaking of which...

Will’s “coming out” scene was pretty heartbreaking too. Mike was clueless but Jonathan figured it out... 

And Max and Lucas were both cute and super sad. I’m proud of Lucas for figuring it out. I think the writers are learning how to write his character. 

Overall, I liked how the characters were written. There was a lot more substance than usual in these episodes. The heroic bits were the same as always, but a lot of the characters were more emotionally vulnerable and real. Of course, the California gang were always the realest. Mike, Will, Jonathan and El’s drama made the most human and interesting storylines apart from Max and Lucas’s storylines (I’m not talking about plot here). I’m glad the CA gang came back and got more screentime because they were the heart of the show for me. Until this finale, the Hawkins gang mostly just acted cool and brave. With a few exceptions, such as Max and Lucas, everyone was usually unflappable, especially Robin, Dustin, Erica, and Eddie; this is why these episodes were an improvement over the previous ones, character wise, because Robin finally showed vulnerability, Steve opened up, and even Erica showed fear and emotion for the first time. 

Another great thing about this finale was El finally getting closure and Papa getting his just deserts. I really loved how, at last, El saw through Papa’s schemes and “overcame” her trauma. She didn’t forgive him, and he didn’t get a redemption arc. I loved that when he was dying and begging for her understanding, she looked back at her real family and saw what love was and what love wasn’t (ie. him).

In the same vein as this, I think fans will be happy that Billy didn’t really get a redemption arc after all. But, however much I get Max’s pain, I’m not sure that her wishing to die because of Billy is necessarily better than her just grieving him and feeling bad for him. She did both, I guess. 

Unrelated, but I think the episodes were too long. They dragged at times. I liked everything with El and the CA gang, but sometimes things in Hawkins, Russia, or even in CA just took too long. The pacing was off sometimes too. They had three separate storylines which they eventually figured out how to reconcile (and I love the idea that, even apart, the characters could reach and help each other, and that every little bit of help matters), but, until the last hour or so, the story felt rather disjointed -  they cut from one location to another quite abruptly, and that cut the flow of the show. I don’t see why they couldn’t split the finale episode into two tbh. They also took too long to reunite all the characters. The biggest drawback - and strength, I guess - this season was that one (apart from retconning the previous seasons). The characters are stronger and more interesting together. The show is at its best when it capitalizes on the bonds between the characters. That’s precisely why these two episodes were so touching. 

I’m kinda sad the show didn’t end this season. I was ready for it tbh, but a lot of things were left hanging in the air. At least we have another season with the characters all in the same place. 

Final observation is that the Duffer brothers’ weaknesses and strengths were equally displayed this finale. The exciting plot; the cool music, wardrobe, special effects, cinematography; the characters playing heroes and the dynamics between them, etc. - these have always been their strengths, but their greatest weakness has always been their self-indulgence imo. Eddie’s death, for example, or Steve getting “rejected” by Nancy which could be seen as the final act of his redemption arc - a lot of the heroics and theatrics were unnecessary and on the nose. Ultimately, the finale was really good though. I don’t know about plot consistency - I think they might’ve retconned the show even further - but I’m happy with where the characters ended up - provided Max is okay!!! 

PS: I wrote all this and forgot to mention how cute Lucas and Max were, and how much I liked El saving Max. It’s nice that Max and El care for each other, but it also feels like the writers just wanted to be able to say their show has female friendships. They have exactly one episode of El and Max becoming friends, which is like a day in their lives, and they keep using those scenes because they have no others. Max and El were close for a few days before El left, so it’s a bit weird that they’re so close now, but their friendship was a highlight in season 4.

Kali gives an awkward little wave, and the room once again falls into chaos.

Everyone had so many questions, all of them shouted out at the same time to be answered by Kali or El, who was clearly overwhelmed by all of this noise. Steve understands, all the commotion makes him feel jumpy too, his nerves stretched thin.

It’s Joyce who calms them all down, appreciating the sense of urgency that came with their arrival, guiding El to elaborate, “Kali is number 8. She was in the lab with me.”

“Jane came and found me two years ago, but we were.. separated again.” Her face looks reserved and sad as she explains, and they all get the sense that that isn’t the full story.

El grasps Kali's hand a little tighter, “I don’t have my powers, but Kali does.”

“With them, I should be able to find your friend and assist them.” The determination in Kali’s voice makes them all feel somewhat better, the situation one they never thought they’d have to be in again, so having someone who knew what to do was comforting.

To everyone except for Steve.

He doesn’t like leaving this mission, the efforts that would save his Billy, up to the charge of Kali, who was to him a complete stranger. He had been able to get this far, finding and communicating with Billy, it feels like giving up to let someone else he didn’t know or trust yet be in control.

“What can you do then?” His question comes out snappy, his tone surprising to the kids, who were optimistic that Kali could help.

In response to his bitterness, she doesn’t say anything at all, only smirking at the challenge he had given her.

From Steve’s perspective, all of the lights go out, and he’s suddenly in the room by himself. Only because he'd just asked about her powers did he consider that this was an illusion, but all the same, he feels like his feet are going to go out from under him, and his heart is beating unusually fast.

He turns to Kali, watching the slow drip of blood from her nose that she quickly wipes away with her sleeve that confirms his suspicion, “What the hell was that?”

Smugly, Kali responds, “I can make anyone see anything I want them to. I just sent you to the dream circle.”

“How does that help us?” Robin asks on Steve’s behalf, though her intentions are nowhere near as harsh as his.

“It doesn't, but I also have access to the dream circle. From there, my powers can reach your friend and help him.” Kali explains, El nodding and adding onto the end, “Billy was strong in the dream circle. It will work.”

Quick glances around the room confirm they’re all in agreement that this is the best shot they have, so next step is coming up with a sound plan.

Kali starts by asking, “So who is it I am looking for?”

Max immediately begins to describe her brother in detail, “His name is William Hargrove, but he goes by Billy. He’s blonde and his eyes are dark blue. He’s about the same height as Steve, and he has a tattoo.“

Steve cuts her explanation short when he pulls out a little Polaroid he always keeps in his pocket of Billy.

It’s a shot he’d taken of him after a basketball game, the both of them bored in the back of the bus for a five hour drive. It’s a little blurry and washed out from the flash, but it was the realest smile he’d ever captured from him, crooked and wide, his eyes wrinkled at the corners as he threw his head back to laugh at something stupid Steve said. He keeps all of the pictures they’d taken in a box shoved under his bed, but this one is special, so he keeps it close.

Only hesitantly does he hand it to Kali without a word, Max stopping mid-sentence and looking at Steve, a cross between sympathy and jealousy that he had a memento of her brother in her features, the kids who still didn’t know giving him strange looks. They all recognize that now isn’t the time to interrogate Steve about keeping photos of Billy though, so it goes unmentioned.

Kali carefully takes it, sensing his hesitation, “You’re sure this is him?”

Steve nods, “He contacted us earlier and told me.”

“How did he do that?” Kali frowns, approaching the coffee table.

“We asked him questions, and he used this to answer.” He explains, gently touching the planchette. Kali looks at the board, surprised and impressed that something so cheap could be used for interdimensional communication that took years of practice for her and her sister.

“Did he tell you anything that could be of importance to us?”

“He just said there were still monsters over there, but that they come and go.” Steve says, leaving out the parts where Billy talked about their relationship.

“And how long has he been in there?”

“Since last year.” Steve answers, and suddenly Kali's face looks solemn, warning gravely, “Then you understand then that even if we do get him out of there, he might not survive.”

“What?” Steve and Max exclaim at the same time.

“The air is extremely toxic over there, and now that Billy has been there for so long, there is a chance he will not be able to adjust to our environment.” She explains, carefully holding Billy’s picture in both hands, looking down at it as she promises, “That isn’t to say I won’t try. I just want you to be realistic.”

El offers, doesn’t like the sad look on Max’s face, “We don’t know how it is like now. Billy is okay.”

They clear away some of the lights they’d set out and turn the TV back to static. The coffee table's surface is cleaned off except for Billy’s picture and Kali sits on the floor in front of it where Steve and Max had been, a piece of an old dish cloth Robin’s mother had given her when she’d moved out as a blindfold.

El and Max sit on either side of Kali, while the boys pile onto the couch. Nancy leans against one of the arms, chewing on the corner of her nail. Robin had brought out extra dining chairs for Steve, herself and Joyce, and the latter two had sat down, but Steve paces back and forth across from Kali, nervous and scared after all she’d said.

Kali takes a deep breath, holding the makeshift blindfold in her hands. She looks to Steve and says, her voice confident, “Remember, no promises.”

El holds her sister’s hand tightly, leaning into her side with her eyes closed. Kali narrates what she sees, which is nothing but death. Dead demodogs, rotten plants, but no Billy, the lack of news setting Steve’s teeth on edge.

He doesn’t care that it seems empty, or that it was darker than before and the air thicker, he just wants to, no, needs to know where Billy is and that he is safe.

“Here. Billy is here.” Kali announces after more silence and searching the empty representation of Hawkins, following it up with a quiet, “He’s hurt. ”

Steve freezes, “Hurt? What happened? Is he okay?”

“Shh.” El puts a finger to her lips, so Kali continues, “There is a monster at his feet. It’s fully grown, but he has slain it. It attacked him and he tended his injuries, but he lost a lot of blood.”

Ignoring El’s warning, Steve prods, “Where is he now?”

“Patience, please. He’s in the woods, traveling between the home where my sister’s family once lived, and the woods behind his lover's home.”

“What the hell is he doing out there?”

“He’s looking for something. A gate. The monster he killed, the demogorgon as you call it, was looking for it too.” Kali takes off her blindfold, can’t do anything more from here, “With my powers I can show him the way to the gate, but only if we are close enough to him.”

“That’s it? We can’t talk to him, or do anything to help him?”

“We can, but not from the dream circle. We have to go where he is and try to guide him out.”

On the edge of manic, Steve insists, “Then let’s go. We have the people and we know where Billy is. What are we waiting for?”

“On that, we can agree.” Kali stands determinedly, wiping the blood from her nose, “We’ll have to hurry if we wish to save your friend.”

Peace, loves! We’re back. Thank you to all who hit me up about this story. My laptop died back in July so I’ve been trying to write on a tablet which…yeah. A struggle is a nice way to put it lol😔. Go ahead and catch the vibes and thank you for the reads, likes, comments and follows. Y'all are the realest. 

“I thought you didn’t smoke”

“I don’t. Doesn’t mean I haven’t…”

You take a strong pull of Dave’s blunt in conjunction with heavy breathing caused by his right hand causing a madness in the between. The cracked window of your car brings enough of a cool down so that the both of you won’t pass out from the nighttime haze and the heat travelling from your bodies. Finally, after two weeks, Dave understands your love language; he can’t keep his hands off of you even as you try to take a break from him. He lifts up your left leg with ease, draping your thickness over his right toned, tatted up thigh. The madness is now turning into magic.

“Dave…let me ch-chill. Shit.” He immediately relents, pinching your quivering thigh with that same right hand while grabbing his dutch away from you.. As you sit in puddles of sweat and Dave’s ruins, you stare at the stars above you. It’s the clearest night you’ve seen since you arrived in the city. It just so happens to be your last.

Dave catches your gaze at the night sky through the skylight above you. “You good, shorty?”

“Yeah, I just…” a slight chuckle escapes your lips. “…I can’t believe I’m smoking blunts and fucking in a backseat like high school.”

Dave feels the ping of your words. It’s the first time in the two weeks of your summertime escapade that he’s reminded of how different you two are.

He felt the slight of your words. You and his relationship always reminded Dave that he had some growing up to do. Because of his lack of a place – and the privacy that comes along with it – you two got it in whenever and wherever you could; after his brother went to work in the AM hours, when Aunt Jerri left the house for bingo, in the backseat of your car. Your surroundings would never get in the way of what you two were there for.

Just like Dave wouldn’t let anything stop him from getting at you the day you met. It was an unseasonably cool day for a block party. He and his boys were on the stoop, shooting the shit as always, when Dave saw you walk outside of Aunt’s Jerri’s house carrying trays of food. He knew all the girls from the neighborhood but he never laid eyes on you before. Your cut off shorts toed the line between modest and disrespectful. A white crop top tee and Air Max 90s sandwiched your goodness in the booty shorts you bought with the intention of showing off.

You turned around to see this caramel-covered king, 6’5, tatted from root to tip, body sweating through a white tank top inquiring if you needed any help. You froze like the bucket of ice Aunt Jerri laid down in front of you. He caught you by surprise. You didn’t remember boys from this part of town looking this damn fine. Dave was beyond that. The man you were supposed to be in the Bahamas with didn’t look like him either. Suddenly you were happy he bailed on you.

“Oh. My bad. I didn’t see you there…” You acknowledged Dave’s reach around you to grab a bottle of water from the same ice bucket that mimicked your gaze.

“Yeah, you bad…” Your right eyebrow never arched so high. It wasn’t the only body part that moved. You didn’t know how to respond to Dave’s street-laced flirtation, only to let your tongue peek out the side of your mouth, leaving Dave no choice but to stare at your lips. Dave’s stare and loitering in your presence caught the attention of your Uncle Trace. As Trace schemed Dave down to the basement to grab more lawn chairs, Aunt Jerri gleefully tapped you on the shoulder to remind you that what happens in Philly, stays in Philly. Trace told Dave to not let anything happen.

But as you kept talking, Dave slowly fell into your grooves. Dave didn’t know that you fit in so well because of your summers visiting Aunt Jerri, Uncle Terrence and the rest of the characters that made up your Dad’s side of the family. You acclimated to the energy. Half of your DNA was Reed Street, North Philly; the same as Dave. You two fit especially well in the spare rooms, backseats and basement meetups to you hid from Trace and the rest of the world that thought you had no business together.

But after this last backseat episode, you would be going back to the place that made you so different; to your senior grant writing job, your townhouse and your Roth IRA. Dave was just months into an overnight warehouse job that paid just enough to give him some change to save money to move out of the spare bedroom of Pardi’s already packed rowhouse. He was a work in progress while some would look at Dave as a sign of regression.

But for you, in that moment, nothing – and no one – would or could be better than Dave.

Until he disappeared and you met Yahya.

Right now, you hate Yahya’s guts. It’s been weeks since he told you that he’s taking on Dave’s case on a pro bono basis as a favor to Aunt Jerri. Still seething as you tried on wedding dresses, you kept your cool just enough to keep peace between your mother and her arch nemesis. This time you sided with your mother.

Yahya caught the rest of your static. He caught the silent treatment all weekend, the AM news radio station being the only background noise as you and him drove Aunt Jerri to Union Station. Once her and her hot pink suitcase rolled out of view, you went at Yahya’s neck. You never called Yahya so many words for “inconsiderate”, your Masters in Communication coming in way too clutch. But Yahya passed the bar, so his combative energy matched your loquaciousness. Onlookers got a good look at you two spar as he weaved through Beltway traffic.

To say that you were mad that Yahya took a case this close to the wedding would be a lie. You knew him to have a kind and caring heart, a heart that wouldn’t let injustice slip by. If this was anyone else’s plight, you’d be all for Yahya’s gracious spirit. But it was Dave. Dave who ignored you not once but twice. Dave who, in the very backseat of the car you’re yelling at Yahya in, told you to give him a few weeks and he’d be down to see you. The same Dave who defied all of the rules – and Uncle Trace’s threats– to get at you. Only to leave you. Dave needed to reap that.

But the Dave you knew – despite what others thought – wouldn’t hurt anyone. He was just a hair over eighteen when he caught the gun charge that sent him to prison. A gun he carried because he witnessed his brother die in front of him. He kept it on the straight ever since. Dave was saving up money for his own place, you understood the grind. He was a stone-cold sweetheart covered in a North Philly veneer. He didn’t sow a seed worth anything for this to happen.

Despite the battle on the Capitol Beltway, Yahya and you came home to convene the most obnoxious session of make up sex known to man. Damn the celibacy. Y’all needed to be on good terms and he needed to get Dave out of jail.

“How it’s going, love?” Your dining room is becoming Yahya’s makeshift work office. You couldn’t help to sneak down at night to read some of what Yahya’s been putting together for the case. Seeing Dave’s name all over his papers remind you of how many times Dave’s name escaped from your lips.

“Man, it’s good. We got enough for this bail hearing. I think we can secure a bail low enough that his family and the local justice coalition can afford.”

“Good. Let’s get him home…”

Yahya smiles at your enthusiasm toward Dave’s case. Despite the ninth-circle-of-Hell type of sex you two had in the aftermath of that fight, Yahya knew you steamed from him taking a case just mere months before the wedding. Yet your insistence to know details – like spotting you reading his notes – remind him of why he wants to marry you in the first place. “What date is the hearing?”

“The sixth of next month. You should come up with me. Watch me in action…”

“I can’t. I can’t be in that courtroom. I’d make you nervous.” And make yourself nervous to see Dave.

“You make me nervous regardless, Y/N. But I was thinking you’d want to see your friend get out of jail…”

Your breath stops dead in its tracks.

“My friend? Dave isn’t my friend.”

“That’s not what Jerri told me…”

Although you support Yahya, you still kept you and Dave’s past relationship a secret. Knowing Aunt Jerri, keeping secrets ain’t in her resume. You grip the kitchen counter to brace yourself for Yahya’s inquisition. He passed the bar on his first try; you got some work to do.

“Yeah, about that, I … didn’t think it was relevant.”

“Of course some puppy love shit ain’t relevant. It’s cute, actually.”

Nothing about what Yahya is saying to you makes sense like it does to him. As Aunt Jerri told Yahya about Dave’s case, she slipped in a farce that you and Dave “dated” when you both were kids, Dave buying you water ices and shrimp egg rolls from the “chinese store” whenever you asked. You two allegedly fell out once puberty hit the both of you like a ton of bricks.

So when Yahya peeped Dave staring at you from across the living room of Aunt Jerri’s house, he knew that as the look of a man who now knew he let something good get away. He knew Dave ventured down to the basement not to grab a bottle for Trace but to rspit game at you. Yahya knew you would turn him down, having seen it before. When Dave grabbed your hand , Yahya wasn’t jealous nor hurt: you were set to be his wife. He won. The baddest girl in the world belonged to him.

You start breathing again as Yahya explains Aunt Jerri’s novella of you and Dave’s teenage love affair. In her own twisted, demented yet genius way, Aunt Jerri covered for you. She knew that if she gave Yahya the honest details, he would – as a man –hesitate to help Dave. Apparently you both thought Yahya wasn’t mature enough to handle the truth.

Aunt Jerri’s lie is broken up by the high pitch screeching of your cell phone. You run to answer.

“You have a collect call from PICC. Do you accept the charges? …”

How many times can you stop breathing in one night?

“Hello?”

“Hey, yo… it’s Dave. I hope ain’t hitting you up at a bad time. Ms. Jerri gave me your number…”

“Oh, no … it-it’s cool. I, uh… how are you holding up?”

Dave couldn’t believe that you asked your fiance to help him get out of jail. At least, that’s the narrative that Aunt Jerri sold Dave on as she and Dave’s mother sat in front of him during their biweekly visits. Dave’s face, once pretty-boy and perfect, carried more wear. His jaw slipped when he talked, causing him a pain sometimes much worse than what happened that night in the store.

“This bail hearing is in two weeks.”

“Yeah, Yahya just tol-” You didn’t want to keep bringing up Yahya’s name. Though that man is Dave’s savior, he’s still the one that’s in the way of a final go around with Dave. “…the 6th, yeah.”

“I want you there.”

“You do?” Your aversion toward sitting in the courtroom subsides as Dave’s voice – sexy as ever, even through a prison phone – calls for you to be there for him.

“Yeah. If I get out, I got a chance. Especially with your dude as my lawyer. Thank you for that, for real. That’s why I’m calling, to be real. And I want you to be one of the first people I see when I get out..”

You wonder what story Aunt Jerri told Dave but you can’t take any more of her creativity. “So you comin’…?”

“…you have less than fifteen seconds left on this call…”

“I’ll…”

“…this call has ended. Goodbye…”

“…be there, Dave.”
