“Dawn of DC” Makes Way for 3 New Limited Series Under “We Are Legends” Banner
Tumblr media
Spinning out of the Lazarus Planet series, the “Dawn of DC” will introduce three new limited series featuring Asian Super Heroes for the “We Are Legends” banner.
Spirit World, from writer Alyssa Wong and artist Haining, follows Xanthe, first introduced in Lazarus Planet: Dark Fate #1, who has the “ability to travel in and out of the Spirit World – the realm of the dead, and that of the living. Xanthe possesses the ability to burn items folded from ceremonial joss paper and turn them into real objects that can be used in the physical world. Their super power is based on the East Asian custom of burning joss paper at gravesites to send resources to ancestors in the spirit world.” (DC Comics) Xanthe will have to forge an alliance with John Constantine to rescue Batgirl Cassandra Cain from jiangshi (Chinese hopping vampires).
Spirit World #1 (of 6), featuring covers by Haining, Dustin Nguyen, Trung Le Nguyen, and Zu Orzu, goes on sale on May 9, 2023.
Tumblr media
The Vigil, from writer Ram V and artist Lalit Kumar Sharma, follows the team of South Asian metahumans consisting of Arclight, Saya, Dodge, and Castle (first seen in Lazarus Planet: Next Evolution #1). The Vigil were given powers they didn’t ant and are “determined to stop metahuman research and tech created for military applications at any cost. Along the way, they’ll encounter super heroes that could be allies or enemies, not a surprise for a group that exists to shut down state-sponsored superhumans…and clean up the mess before any hero or villain arrives, as if both the crime and The Vigil were never there.” (DC Comics)
The Vigil #1 (of 6), featuring covers by Sumit Kumar, Mukesh Singh, Lalit Kumar Sharma, Anad RK, and Pop Mhan, goes on sale on May 16, 2023.
Tumblr media
City Boy, from writer Grek Pak and artists Minkyu Jung and Sunny Gho, follows Cameron Kim / City Boy, introduced in Wildstorm 30th Anniversary Special #1 and Lazarus Planet: Legends Reborn #1. Cameron is a kid trying to get by who uses his powers of speaking to cities to find lost items to pawn. “But having these powers also means that he hears everything about these cities, everywhere and all at once, including their histories and the truths behind them. In his two current appearances he’s already made “friends” with Gotham City (including a rat avatar made from the city’s scraps), but only time will tell if City Boy is received as openly by Metropolis, Amnesty Bay, Themyscira, or other cities in the DC Universe.” (DC Comics)
City Boy #1 (of 6), featuring covers by Minkyu Jung, InHyuk Lee, Michael Choi, and Alexandre Tefenkgi, goes on sale on May 23, 2023.

The Quills chose their name based on what lead them to follow the Unum, often burying their old name with their old life. But Onkko is defined by his love for his wife, Saya, and so he is anchored

good day madam, i am a hungry lesbian in need of your gayest wresting moments. can you spare me a cup of gay?
Anon you have come to the right person. Everything's been leading up to this. This is what it's all been for. This will probably be long.
Anon I got so excited about this I even solicited my friends for THEIR gayest moments so I'll do those first. You were recommended:
Mahiro Kiryu briefly getting a takarazuka gimmick in TJPW's Hyper Misao produced show HYPE
Tumblr media
Giulia vs Konami from the 5 Star GP 2021, which was described as "the first match I remember watching and going OH MY GOD KONAMI AND GIULIA ARE FUCKING", and their feud did later give us a promo where Konami was like "Hey Giulia, you know how I bully you and you like it?" and Giulia was like "Ahaha, yeah?" and Konami was like "Well that's basically our entire relationship, so there you go." She did have examples.
pretty much anything with Raku/Pom Harajuku/Yuki Aino in TJPW, who my friends have lovingly dubbed the Pomycule
Okay enough from them though. You didn't ask them, you asked me and I asked them. Now for the me. I think it's important to note as well, anon, that not all of the gay shit in wrestling happens in a match, or even in the ring. Sometimes it's just shit on social media, a lot of the time it happens at press conferences, you must maintain constant vigilance. Anyway.
Whatever the fuck Syuri and Utami have going on, which I wrote about here.
Tumblr media
There was the time Himeka kissed Syuri last year
Tumblr media
There was Komomo enjoying getting beat up by Saki Kashima a Little Too Much, which I wrote about here.
Tumblr media
There was the exchange between Utami and Syuri at the press conference for Stardom Gold Rush last year
Tumblr media
There was Tam Nakano starting an entire faction to, in her own words, surround herself with women with big boobs (their focus has since shifted)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was AliKaba, the tag team of Giulia and Syuri, which was basically just one long enactment of gay longing from Giulia
Tumblr media
There was the time Giulia posted this picture with the caption ^-^ and then deleted it
Tumblr media
There was the time FWC, the tag team of Hazuki and Koguma, spent 5 hours in the bath together (sadly they just talked about that I don't have pictures)
another time FWC both got matching bruises at the same time, and then later confirmed that yes they got them together. In the bath again
Tumblr media
There were both Cosmic Rules matches at Stardom in Showcase 1 & 2 which I unfortunately don't have any great screenshots of but I'm positive were inspired by lesbian porn
There are constant small exchanges like this that don't even have a lot of context they just happen all the time
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was the time Hikari Noa had a hardcore match against Nao Kakuta and after they did this
Tumblr media
There was the time Mina Shirakawa spat on Saya Kamitani and then licked her face
Tumblr media
There was this shit in Act Wres Girlz, which for the record kind of depressingly does not do gay stories super frequently but has legitimately I think the highest percentage of out wrestlers I've seen in any company
There was the brief Tam Syuri feud which shockingly somehow did not involve anyone kissing but had the vibe that they were kissing mentally the entire time
Tumblr media
There was every single exchange Tam and Natsupoi had before they realized they were still in love with each other but ESPECIALLY their cage match
Tumblr media
And, for my money, the gay moment that lives the largest and dearest and most bittersweet in my mind was when Tam and Unagi had their singles match as part of the 5 Star GP last year, which was, unknown to us at the time, something of a farewell tour for Unagi before she went freelance, where afterwards they hugged in the ring for two minutes and then kissed.
Tumblr media
I'm gonna cut myself off there but trust me I could go on and on and on for way too long but that's why I think you should watch for yourself. Wrestling is always moving and new gay stuff is always happening. In conclusion,

Another Warframe PSA especially useful before you start The Sacrifice. CMIIW Theres also another one but its in spoilers territory but useful if you're having a hard time dealing with it.
Get the Amp if you haven't already then upgrade it, this helps your Operator a lot especially earlier if can. You can get them in Saya's Vigil quest in Cetus upon completing it. It'll help you also in the long run. (Since Cetus was not reccommended for me to do when I was still starting new and I avoid it for a long time even after The War Within, I'd say you do the quest before Chains of Harrow from my experience)
---Now we get to the spoilers tips:
When fighting Umbra during the stages of the quest of you trying to transference him, face him straight in line and don't be void slinging around to avoid him. This only makes it harder for you to aim your void beam at him and he jumps and avoids you around easily. Then when he gets near you immediately void sling to the far opposite side of the room. It makes you have more room to breathe and more time to aim your beam at him. Rinse and repeat until you deplete his shields. It'll took a few tries with the timing but it saves a lot more time than slinging around in panic while trying to aim.
Tanky Warframes also help if the Umbra gets too close and you have no time to dodge then he clothesline your operator so before it happens immediately taps back to your Warframe. I unfortunately picked up Volt and was absolutely wrecked. Since his shields only get weakened by the void beam your Warframe can only dodge or run so your operator can recover in meantime. The Void was laughing their asses off I bet from my constant deaths
Kite him around planters or corners since he gets stuck rather easily that way and it might buy you some time to void beam him.
(I just finished the quest and there are things that you can do to make it easier to complete. I was dumb and persistent enough to complete it with starting lvl 1 Amp and took few tries do not do this)
Also if there are any veteran Tennos out there who could give some tips to prepare for The New War or The Sacrifice in this post it would be a great addition thank you in advance!

Why you should read The Vigil (as well a brief history of South Asian representation in DC Comics)
In February 2023, DC Comics announced 3 new miniseries based on 3 new Asian casts that would launch during AAPI Month: Spirit World, starring Xanthe, a Chinese American non-binary Chinese American with powers connecting to the Spirit World and the dead; City Boy, which follows Cameron Kim, a Korean American thief who has city related powers that let him talk to the animal manifestations of cities such as Gotham and Metropolis; and The Vigil, starring a team of Indian characters with superpowers who are tasked with controlling technology so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. 3 interesting ideas which all turned out to be great. I highly recommend all 3, and it's so exciting to have more AAPI characters in one of my favorite pieces of media. I'm specifically focusing on The Vigil, but please check the other two out too, they're amazing.
The Vigil is good. Like, really good. It's refreshing, has really fun and interesting characters, and has an engaging plot. This is a bit surprising. Not because of the creative team (most of the people working on it are South Asian themselves), but because of the company. DC has historically not had very many good Desi characters. Many of them started off as stereotypes, like most BIPOC characters. But unlike other races that fit into that acronym, which have typically had at least some attempts to fix those mistakes and create new ones, the best South Asian people have ever really gotten in my knowledge is Solstice, who has been in like 3 comics. Sure, there are others, but most of them weren't incredibly well written or had pretty bad things happen to them (Celsius was killed after being on the Doom Patrol for 17 issues, and Jinx was whitewashed by the Teen Titans shows which have done irreparable damage to the character). I mean, this is the company that released a comic during the 2010s that thought "Pakistanian" was a language. So while I was hopeful, I was a bit worried about it. Luckily the series is written by Ram V, who is Indian himself and has written many amazing comics (i personally recommend The Many Deaths of Laila Starr as well as his recent run on Detective Comics). Still, I was a bit worried. I read Spirit World and loved it, but still had to wait a week for The Vigil to come out. And when the time came, it was well worth the wait.
The Vigil stars a team known as The Vigil, consisting of five members: Arclight, who I see as the leader of the team, has extremely powerful electrokinesis; Dodge, my favorite, is extremely fast; Saya, whose powers allow them to wear another person's face and gain their memories; Castle, a kid who is the hacker of the team; and a woman named Nia Saha, an NIA operative who is the newcomer to the team and was assigned to it after her mentor retired from it. It's run by Dr. Sankaran, who has just lost the clearance from the government to keep the team going, as well as a mysterious Mr. Lightless. Each member of the group is just so interesting and their own unique character that is well written and they all have really fun powers. The designs are cool as hell too, and really fit the characters.
Out of all 3 We Are Legends series, which are all criminally underrated, The Vigil is by far the most underrated. It's barely talked about, despite it being one of the best things DC is putting out at the moment. It's a breath of fresh air for comics, and I really think it brings something new to the genre. Each issue is seen through the point of view of Nia, but focuses on a different character each time. The second one follows Arclight on a solo mission, while the third follows Saya as they go undercover as Nia to see if she's trustworthy. The writing's great and it's all just so entertaining.
It's also a great jumping on point for DC Comics. There's obviously a lot of lore in DC, but The Vigil doesn't really get into all of that in a way that seems overwhelming. That being said, there's still a lot here for DC fans, tiny references like one about Kiteman in issue 1. A reviewer described it as "Doom Patrol meets The Authority meets X-Men", and I could not agree more. It takes a lot of stuff I love from those series, but leaves behind some of the baggage that could turn fans away. And it's just so goddamn nice to see people that look like me as cool and interesting superheroes. I don't get that enough, especially with the unfortunate thing happening to Kamala Khan over at Marvel.
Please read the series. It's great, probably my favorite series that DC is putting out right now. It's only got 3 issues so far so you can catch up in under an hour. If you end up reading it, please tell me!! It's so good and I would love to talk about it with another fan.
Thanks for reading!!

Anna: Just because it's summer vacation doesn't mean you shouldn't stay focused. A momentary lapse in vigilance can be fatal.
Neko: Can't wait, can't wait…
Anna: Neko, be especially careful. Also, don't skip supplementary classes.
Neko: Eh, what?
Anna: …Listen properly to what I'm saying.
Neko: Haha, sorry-sorry!
Anna: Well then, everyone. Have a nice summer vacation.
Neko: Whoo-hoo! The first semester is over!
Neko: I'm so happy! I'm going to play as much as I can during the summer vacation!
Kuroh: Don't forget about supplementary classes.
Neko: Supplementary classes? What are you talking about?
Saya: Ahaha, you forgot it right away…
Shiro: Neko, remember, you had a bad test grade.
Neko: …Ahhh.
Kuroh: She remember.
Neko: Uuugh, I don't want supplementary classes! I hate supplementary classes! But… you'll get mad if I don't show up on them, won't you?
Saya: We're going to be mad, very mad.
Neko: Uuugh, don't~. Kurosuke, take my place!
Kuroh: Why should I attend your supplementary classes? I refuse.
Saya: Ahaha, I told you, Neko-chan…
Shiro: If you hadn't fallen asleep in class, you wouldn't have gotten a red mark.
Saya: Uhm, you're right. Shiro-kun amazing in this point.
Saya: You get good grades even though you sleep a lot in class.
Shiro: Huh, did you notice that?
Saya: Of course. Because the best students are announced.
Shiro: Ah, not that. …That I'm sleeping in class.
Saya: Eh? …Sleeping?
Shiro: Uhm. You're the first person who's ever caught me sleeping.
Saya: Eh, is that so?
Shiro: The teachers don't know anything about it.
Saya: Come to think of it… I'm pretty sure I've never seen anyone get mad at Shiro-kun.
Shiro: Right? I was pretty confident about it.
Shiro: But, after what you did the other day deactivating Kuro's ability, I'm glad I discovered something interesting about you.
Saya: That was…I really wonder what that was. I can't get the ability out at all again…
Shiro: Hmmm…I think your ability is still unstable, but if something happens, we've got you covered, so don't worry.
Shiro: We're on summer vacation now, forget about you ability for once and have fun!
Saya: Uhm, thanks. I'm really looking forward to summer vacation!
Saya: (Shiro-kun encouraging me…I shouldn't worry too much about it. Maybe it's better to take it a little easier)

thoughts on wf's early game now that i'm just playing through the entire game again with my pc account i guess
the hint at the lotus' "true" nature as a sentient during saya's vigil is very cool
i love saya. i really wish we got to see more of/hear more from her and that she wasn't just relegated to being "onkko's ex-wife, konzu's current wife." the speed with which she decides to move on from onkko and get with konzu after five years of holding onto the idea of seeing onkko again and holding konzu responsible for his disappearance is pretty whiplash-inducing!
the jackal fight is NOT forgiving if you cannot parkour lmao
the lotus confusedly saying "i thought it would be bigger" before the jackal fight because she thought the moa was the jackal is so fucking cute 😭

Warframe story, Act I: Awakening
Tumblr media
1. Intro, Awakening and Vor’s Prize. Earth becomes free to explore.
TW: Vor’s Prize is not replayable, link to the playthrough below: https://youtu.be/W0gHWGjzxSQ
2. Make your way to Cetus on Earth --> Saya’s vigil. Plains of Eidolon are free to explore once done.
Cetus intro cutscene: https://youtu.be/tVb0DpcJQmc?t=5
TW: Saya’s Vigil replay starts from the Plains, so for the first part of dialogue you’d have to read the wiki transcript:
https://warframe.fandom.com/wiki/Saya%27s_Vigil/Transcript (also I’d recommend to read some idle chatter aftewards)
3. Go to Venus -> Operation False Profit starts.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiijDeTTdrk
Since this was an event, do Tessera defense wave 20 and face bursas as a substitute.
4. After observing Bursas produced by Nef Anyo, Lotus decides to send you to Fortuna to investigate Nef’s Operations. --> Vox Solaris starts.
Fortuna Intro Cutscene: https://youtu.be/mPTCq3LiZSE
5. After Vox Solaris, make your way to Mercury --> Once Awake. This unlocks Infested invasion missions.
6. The Conclave (My addition) - Teshin contacts you, offering to teach you after your long slumber. (Join the conclave on any relay.) He gives you access to the Conclave and gives you “Nightmare” mission challenges with special rewards. He also imparts some wisdom to you:
While Orokin craftsmanship was beyond any in the system, the true power of the tools was unlocked by mods – creations of Cephalon Samodeus. The warrior makes the weapon, not the other way around.
Knowing each enemy’s weakness and strengths is the key to victory. Study them, for a warrior prepared is the warrior that triumphs.
Mastering different arms will make sure that you have the experience and tools to deal with any foe. Seek them.
True warrior seeks to challenge himself, even if it means facing his nightmares.
TW: Teshin Conclave voice lines: https://youtu.be/N_e1W6nKeOc
7. Make you way to Mars --> Gradivus Dilemma starts.
https://www.orokinarchives.com/gradivus-dilemma/
Summary: Alad V has discovered a cache of Warframes on mars. Grineer, led by Sargas Ruk, unwilling to give the Corpus the valuable tech, escalate the tensions to all-out war between Grineer and Corpus. We get to choose the side we help and maybe be able to save our comrades.
Do 3 invasion missions on Mars for the faction of your choosing (You can skip this part if you want since the availability of these missions is a bit RNG and do just crossfire missions.)
Ending: After continues skirmishes, Alad V retreats having gained some tech out of it, and Grineer solidify their foothold on Mars. Our efforts helped evacuate more civilians out and free some of the warframes. Grineer vs Corpus invasions become available.
8. Rebirth.
– “Tenno, there are some reports of Captain Vor being alive. Please investigate”. Rebirth Cinematic of Vor being… alive is shown.
Link: https://youtu.be/y-exvbGpksM
Corrupted Vor seemingly starts a campaign against the factions. Void Fissure missions become available. (Additional note - maybe making this event as an introduction to the Void missions and Corrupted Vor would also be neat.)
9. Get to Phobos --> The Hunt For Alad V
https://www.orokinarchives.com/hunt-for-alad-v/
With the events of Gradivus Dilemma, the Corpus Board of Directors is dissatisfied with Alad V. Frohd Bek, the current chairman, contacts us asking for assistance to clear the ships searching for his whereabouts off infestation Alad V unleashed on them.
Do 1-2 infested invasions for the Corpus on Phobos. (You can skip this part if you want since the avability of these missions is a bit RNG.)
Ending: With ships clear the hunt continues but it’s probably gonna be a while.
10. The ties that bind

 – “Darvo has been captured by the Corpus, but he managed to send a message to you asking for assistance. Liberate him.”
Unfortunately, this mission is entirely unavailable in the game now, despite its story significance. DE could easily make it available if they moved Hyena boss fight to Phobos and changed it up a bit.

Summary of the story: It is revealed that Darvo is the son of Frohd Bek, and the later has captured his son and is pressuring him to take the now vacant seat of Alad V on the board. Darvo manages to deactivate the Hyena models but they are reactivated again and you have to fight them. (Their actual fight on the star chart is waaay later unfortunately.) Once defeated, Frohd Bek mentions “Project Tethra”, which becomes another mystery for the Tenno.
11. TW: Howl of the Kubrow. A short quest, mentioning a person from one of previous events. Best done after Phobos, when you have the access to the Void.
Unfortunately, replaiying the quest requires an egg and breeding a Kubrow, which takes 24 hours (or 15 platinum :) ).
12. Heart of Deimos – Unlocks Deimos and Cambion Drift, along with its activities.
TW: Heart of Deimos is not replayable. Link to the playthrough below: https://youtu.be/0UrvqXEy2cs
I’d like to add, even if placing Heart of Deimos here makes sense from the Star Chart progression point of view, it’s better to do this quest only after the end of Act III and The Sacrifice. The quality of quest, its visuals highly differ from everything you’ve encountered so far.

The Vigil #1 (DC, May 2023) cover by Sumit Kumar. Part of DC’s “We Are Legends” line.
This mysterious team of South Asian metahumans made their first appearance in Lazarus Planet: Next Evolution #1 and can be seen again in issues #1070 and #1071 of Detective Comics. Written by Ram V (Detective Comics, Swamp Thing), with art by Lalit Kumar Sharma (Truth & Justice, Marvel’s Daredevil), The Vigil is Arclight, Saya, Dodge, and Castle, a group of individuals given powers they didn’t want, determined to stop metahuman research and tech created for military applications at any cost. Along the way, they’ll encounter super heroes that could be allies or enemies, not a surprise for a group that exists to shut down state-sponsored superhumans…and clean up the mess before any hero or villain arrives, as if both the crime and The Vigil were never there. Artist Sumit Kumar provides the main cover, with variant covers by Mukesh Singh and series artist Lalit Kumar Sharma and Anand RK, with Pop Mhan providing a special AAPI Heritage Month variant.

Read The Vigil 1.
I’m not AS into this as I was Spirit World and I suspect I’m also going to like City Boy more (sorry, ‘dangerous artifact recovery team’ is less my jam than ‘magical/spirit shenanigans’ or ‘talking to the anima of cities’) but it was enjoyable and gosh it’s nice to see more comics based out of somewhere that’s not America.
Also Saya’s mask is SUPER creepy, not gonna lie.
