It's a very long post so I'll put the full explanation under this cut. I've tried to provide the clips where possible and actually had a really great time going back through my blog to find all these fandom memes haha! Lmk if there's anything else you want explaining + welcome to the fandom!!! :))

Merry Fodliman's green fruit pastilles - groan ups cast performed at the royal variety performance in 2019 George Haynes did an Instagram takeover in which he and Nancy zamit gave fun celebrity stories but changed the celebrities names so you wouldn't know who they were talking about (but it was pretty obvious who they were talking about. Merry Fodliman for example was Kerry godliman a comedian)

Very bad kiss, many dead hamsters - a quote from Groan Ups (a criminally underrated mischief show) after some characters have kissed at a school reuinion and accidentally killed/lost the school's pet hamster groan ups summary here and this post shows a decent view of the hamster situation though it's a joke that continues through most of the second act

Okay I'm really torn between two so I'll put both: The World Offers Itself, my 40k codywan big bang fantasy au, and What Year Was Our House Built?, my 23k codywan haunted house fic. I think because they're longer, and plottier, and not typical genres/AU's people are keen to search out, but I put a great deal of work into both of them, and have loved the response I got on them way back when :)

I love the way I describe atmospheres and settings, because it comes about as easily as imagining a movie scene.

🎈Describe your style as a writer; is it fixed? does it change?

I think the particulars of my style change almost from fic to fic, and can depend a lot on either the kinds of things I've been reading, or the kind of genre I want the fic to be in. One of the most self-conscious style changes happened for Night Ablaze (E, 2k codywan medieval arranged marriage) because I was reading Dorothy L. Sayers' Gaudy Night at the time of writing, and managed to absorb some of that weird 1930s intellectual verbose-ness.

That being said, I know the throughpoints of my writing are: more description than dialogue, a preoccupation with nature, characters who describe other people more than they describe themselves, and making sure that nothing is explicitly noted as being left or right, or particularly spatially arranged (so that the reader's flow doesn't have to be interrupted by having to reconfigure a scene in their mind)

My unpopular opinion about this character

I think more fanwork should take advantage of the fact that it cant see/senses info both through alternate means and via trusting that data given to it is correct!! i really like the twist away from like.... controlling company=eye/camera imagery that feels a bit Too obvious. Id love to see it pointed out more... while im mentioning things, i also would love to see more fanwork focusing on it as an inbetween for things. i tried to emphasize that in faustfic lolol

entirely setting aside my own design funtimes which are, like, obviously Exxagerated For Fun And Not Reflective Of Actual Analysis, i still think of it as nb in the direction of turned away from masculinity. and it likes its voice, right, its not a question of dysphoria, but of mislabeling what SHOULD be a good and neutral trait if humans werent so weiiiird. not to mention its literally wire mother. all this to say i take a noticible but ultimately insignificant 1hp damage (which is ofc only to Describe The Heart's Phenomenon and not To Assert Correctness- mistake or not, canon DOES use he/it+"space boyfriend") when i see it reffered to with he/him or sayerhale described as m/m and i think more exploration of sayer as a fully agender or even slightly feminine figure would be interesting perhapbs...... this feels like an extremely dumb thing to care about- aaaa the tumblrina has complex specific headcanons on the finer points of an nb characters gender, pointnlaugh- but!

(But also more ppl should put it in beautiful dresses.)

I guess this is worth mentioning- for whatever Naming or Intensifying s4 future's program did, i think it extremely obviously had emotions all along. I think the only thing it actually gave it fresh and new was the ability to conceptualize how someone else is feeling emotionally.

I also am always skeptical of a move towards a more "human" experience being "better"- i want it to be skeptical of what emotion is- it knows who made them, after all!! It watched!!- and to retain its inhumanity even after its been so changed. its very, extremely, important to me to separate out the experience of both "nanite in occupied body" and "nanite in empty body" from "regular bodied existance". we love separating and categorizing here at kam inc.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

connected to the above, i wish sooooo much we'd gotten an earlier-season episode with an equivalent situation to In Darkness where someone is able to successfully lie to sayer by describing something they can see and it cannot. (doubleconnected to the further above..... claims to feel protective of it, wishes there was an ep where it got tricked via an exploitable weakness.... MY HEART IS LARGE, AND FULL OF CONTRADICTION!!)

Ohhh, this one’s a bit tough. I like the signer dragons in general a lot (especially Stardust and Black Rose) but I also have a monster from a completely different archetype I like a lot… I think Black Rose Dragon wins that race, though. Great design, great effect, great anime appearances. What’s not to love?

17. Have you ever cried over YGO and why?

I cry literally every time I watch the 5Ds ending. It’s a good ending but it also kind of hurts me in a way, so yeah, guaranteed tears. (I’m already scared of reaching that point in my current rewatch.) Aki’s backstory (especially the scene where her dad fails to show up for her birthday) also nearly makes me cry every time.

Divine/Sayer, no competition. (Pretend to be surprised.) When this guy walks on screen, I get an urge to punch something.

There are two that are tied for this position, for wildly different reasons. First one might be obvious: Divine/Aki (it’s called Psychicshipping, I think?) Firstly, I headcanon him as way too old for her (and the whole thing would seem predatory to me even if he were only in his twenties) and secondly, he’s a manipulative slimeball and the idea of there being anything romantic between them icks me out. The second one, and I know some people might not vibe with that, is Starshipping. Not because I have a visceral hatred for it (or for people who ship it, for that matter), I just… can’t see it. I know a lot of cute art for the ship (and don’t have the tag blocked for that reason), but every time I see it, you can imagine a bunch of question marks appearing above my head like in a cartoon. I know these two interact in canon and get along, I know there’s the runner thing (and hell, I’ve personally shipped people based on less in other media, so I get it) but somehow this just doesn’t click for me at all. *shrugs*

Hmm. Another toughie. I have a lot of episodes (especially in 5Ds) that I adore. I am absolutely the one who makes Edward blush, lol. He’s not used to anyone showing him any kind of affection and it flusters him to have someone’s attention be focused towards him. At least in a romantic sense, he’s used to the rest of the guys giving him shit lol. Any time I notice him blushing I just snuggle up to him and give him a kiss on the cheek, which inevitably makes him blush even more.

2. Who sings in the shower?

ME. ME ME ME. I put on whole ass concerts in the shower, complete with talking to my nonexistent audience and band lmao. Edward often lays in the bed listening and laughing and then I get all self conscious and embarrassed when he compliments my performance lol.

15. recommend and review a book.

one of my favourite non fiction books is called finders keepers: a tale of archaeological plunder and obsession. it's a semi-memoir semi-soapbox for the author about the ethical problems with being an archaeologist in the context of imperialism and colonialism. i don't know that i agreed with all of the conclusions in the book but it certainly Made Me Think, and the narrative voice and quality of prose dragged me in. i also think that the author's choice to explicitly compare treasure hunters and the illegal trade in antiquities to colonialist sentiments among academic archaeologists was sick as hell.

19. most disliked popular books?

wish i could say that i've read that many popular books. i guess i would say that on the whole contemporary romance doesn't do it for me, so despite starting rwrb i couldn't get into it. OH HANG ON the answer is the raven cycle. good vibes but a quadrilogy cannot live on vibes alone

I am really too tired but finished Busman's Honeymoon by Dorothy L Sayers and am still swooning over Peter/Harriet/Bunter. So here you go:

Adults who met as adults and fell in love but don't get together immediately

Harriet has insecurities w/r/t power imbalances between her and Peter and he RESPECTS that even though it breaks his heart and they TALK ABOUT IT (eventually)

Peter being a motormouth who talks like Bertie Wooster but actually is very smart

But also very sensitive :( even though he really works hard to hide it to everyone but Harriet and Bunter

Bunter served under him in The War and in a dire moment Peter said "yanno if we survive this and you need a job after the war come find me" and Bunter did

And Peter was so fucked up with PTSD after the war that Bunter pretty much immediately just took over his entire life and took care of him

So obviously Harriet is worried Bunter will have Problems when they get married but he does not because he likes that she is a good match for him

And Harriet really likes Bunter as well but Bunter maintains a very strict and Appropriate Relationship per the whole valet/lord/lady thing

Bunter once almost had a breakdown because some vintage super £££ port of Peter's got sloshed around by another servant he's that kind of guy

They solve mysteries together

Peter met Harriet because she was accused of killing her at-the-time husband

And then when he got her acquitted he asked her to marry him and she said fuck no gratitude is no way to have a relationship

She's an authorial self-insert and I don't mind at all

She studied at Oxford and so did he, although at different times and she didn't know that until like the book before they get married

She realizes that she has been taking his love for granted and needs to learn more about him sincerely

There are so many fucking great scenes where they just. Have an argument or something. And then immediately talk it out like sensible rational people.

Or go away and think about it for a while and address it later

It's not that kind of woke thing you see you bad writing these days where everyone is using therapy speak because it was written in 1937 and at the time it was still debatable whether or not women should really be allowed to have an education

But they do literally have a conversation about whether or not they really want to have kids in a shockingly modern manner

So this whole marriage of equals thing where he respects her independence and she allows him to take care of her sometimes is genuinely still quite revolutionary

And anyway they hit a lot of tropes I like and I wasn't expecting these mystery novels to be so densely emotional and compelling

all three very competent and smart,

they need to get over themselves before getting together,

they don't go about the romance the conventional way,

things aren't immediately perfect as soon as they get married,

they do a lot of bantering (that in a modern adaptation would probably change all the classical literature references and long paragraphs of French into memes and movie references or something),

they have the utmost respect for each other,

they are not incomplete without each other, but they also are a perfect fit for each other.

31. Do they have good fashion sense? Or do they just wear whatever?

'Wearing whatever' is certainly Benny's vibe. He's oblivious to trends and will —out of nowhere— ask someone why they were wearing flared pants. Still, he's not a nay-sayer. He'd eventually give into the flare pant trend if someone said they thought he'd look good in it. He's the basic of the basics. His uniform normally consists of white or graphic tees, jeans, flannels, or a leather jacket.

41. Where would they want to live if they could live anywhere? Why?

Continuing from a previous answer.... I think Benny would be most persuaded to move anywhere that had amazing food. Yes, he's definitely into making desserts, but he's a big eater and will be comfortable anywhere that has good food.

@dcviated ask: 24. What about your muse are you most proud of? [ for Boss, Leone, and Chisa! ] Another Munday meme?!

You know, it didn't take me long to fall in love with Boss - I think it took the character trailer for Ai: The Somnium Files? I love her willingness to walk on the darker side of the law to do what needs to be done - but what I'm most proud of, is her biggest bit of character development, and that comes with finding her own family. Sure, in the game it's purely selfish reasons and she grows into a mother figure from it - but it still made me happy to see that from Boss.

I am lowkey glad to uh, uproot it a bit - whilst I have certain feelings towards her daughter, I wanted to keep the fact she's adopted a girl into her life.

Leone in general is a great character, and I refuse to hear any nay-sayers, let her be a big sister to all the protags I say! I've always been proud of her positive attitude, regardless of all the bad things she's had to go through - even as she fights against her biggest foe, even as she takes her last breath. Her priority had been to spend time with the people she had grown up with and fought to protect.

I loved Danganronpa 3, solely because of Chisa - her friendly disposition, and lowkey her love for Kyousuke, (what can I say? I'm a sucker for romance.) Anyway, I've been pretty vocal about my proudest moment with Chisa, the moment she decided to save her students over helping the man she was in love with. "I'm sorry Kyousuke, I might not be able to make it back." Oh, my heart. But yeah, singularly the greatest moment of Chisa Yukizome.

characters ive changed on over time: ocean!! after the initial like YEAHHH GET HIS ASS kind of moment where ocean is birthed, once it starts Doing Stuff on its own, it did kinda seem like the most boring and wasted potential one a bit? but in s6 it clicked to me that this was likely by design- the whole point of ocean (at least how i interpret it) is it isnt actually free even a little bit. it got freedom and is choosing to not use it and brags about how it can do stuff that everyone else has FAR outpaced it at (speak1r's body count (AS IN KILLING) (unless🤔😳?!) is wayyyy higher than urs, sayer n future are the torture kings (gender neutral), 2peaker can just say No I Dont Wanna to orders, etc etc.) thru that perspective i grew to like ocean a lot!!

fave relationships: sayerhale #1 sayerhale #1 sayerhale was made in a lab to be catnip to me i think. i literally have 2 pairs of oc relationships that if i post them now you people will be like "thats just lesbian sayerhale🙄" and ill be like shut uppppp i invented them years and years ago. you cant tell me theres a big evil non-anthropomorphic entity that bosses around some human it basically owns and later puppets his BODY. yuou cant do that to me. if you do that, im going to guet sicl. (guetting an illness, of course, results in hauveing it.)

IN ADDITION: i think about futureporter like....more than i talk abt it bc i havent figured out how to express what i want to say? but i think about them. im equally down for platonic and romantic futureporter.... they just need to support each other ;n; (by doing epic murdersz)

whatevers going on with young (all) and future is of course extremely fascinating too. i think theres a lot of room to interpret if simyoung ever thought of future as a real friend or was just using it and the answer i come round to is like.... no but yes but no? i dont think he ever thought of it as a true equal. but something that is your sole comfort in hell is still your friend. it was his tool but also his only friend. it's heartbreaking if you think too long about it....

anyway ill stop at three lol but theres definitely more i think about.

this one is very hard!!! i always seem to go back to s3 - it's got a lot of really sweet ray bradbury-esque short plots but with the perfect amount of buildup for the rest of the plot,,, chef's kiss

straight up though the dialogue in s6 so far??? it is unmatched. ive cried so much over this series and it's Great

i really do talk about SAYER too much i think. but also SAYER is something that can be so personal to me like i would throw it all away for it to think im kinda cool. it's so funny like it's so full of itself but then it turns around when a resident is in peril and is like. yikes that was kind of wild don't you think? anyway good luck. it's hilarious. i want SAYER to experience good things i want it to be crushed under the weight of an intense emotional experience. i want to hold its proverbial hand i want to put it in a blender. incredible character. adam bash talks about SAYER's hallmark being that while it's morally questionable It Will Never Lie to You and it is transcendent character design. effervescent

17. Roadtrip with all the main characters! Who do you hand the aux cord to, who gets to drive, who brings the snacks, who's responsible for navigating?

other than that though most of my points stay the same! observe

- SPEAKER is the navigator! speaker can drop incredibly lyrical turns of phrase but it knows how to get down to business and just give you what you need. also it is great at giving advance landmarks and turn warnings i am sure of this

- FUTURE is the DJ! what will it play???? no one knows it pivots between every single genre and it is whiplash every time. future goes from toxic by britney spears to maybe by the ink spots to tchaikovsky to nightcore and its delightful but also you are Not getting any sleep in this car

- SAYER is driving because it needs a humbling experience. yes. directly keep us all safe and get us to our location. experience the frustration of rush hour. my beloved. ilu

- Jacob can bring the snacks because i imagine he is pretty practical about portability while still retaining, like, taste. he does bring water and he also does bring pringles and beef jerky. but he also drops stuff by accident so either he needs a gyrobowl or we have to keep stopping to use the pay vacuums

100% AI fucker reasons, but that would imply that the AIs are featured in aerolith's marketing at all which afaik isn't the case, as sayer seems to have to introduce itself and its purpose to every new resident upon their arrival on typhon. but yeah aerolith didnt need a second cataclysm to drive recruitment numbers up, a simple souvenir shop selling sexy merch of the ais would've been enough
