Tree Plantation for In Bangalore

Tree Plantation Initiatives in Bangalore: A Green Step Towards Urban Sustainability
Bangalore, often hailed as the "Garden City" of India, is renowned for its lush landscapes and verdant public spaces. However, with rapid urbanization, the city faces significant environmental challenges, including air pollution and rising temperatures. To combat these issues, several tree plantation initiatives have been launched to preserve and enhance Bangalore's green cover. Here’s a look at how tree planting efforts are shaping a greener future for Bangalore and how you can get involved.
Importance of Tree Plantation in Bangalore
Tree planting in Bangalore serves multiple environmental and social functions. Trees help moderate urban climates, improve air quality by filtering pollutants, reduce the urban heat island effect, and provide habitat for various species. Moreover, they contribute to the mental and physical well-being of the city's residents, creating more serene and attractive environments.
Key Tree Plantation Initiatives in Bangalore
BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) Tree Planting Drive: The local municipal corporation frequently organizes tree plantation drives. These are often conducted in collaboration with local NGOs and community groups, focusing on increasing the city's green belts. Residents can participate in these initiatives by volunteering during planting drives or by providing spaces like private gardens and terraces for plantation.
SayTrees Environmental Trust: SayTrees is a prominent NGO dedicated to protecting and creating green spaces in and around Bangalore. They organize multiple tree planting events throughout the year and collaborate with corporates, schools, colleges, and other institutions. This NGO not only plants trees but also ensures their survival and growth through regular maintenance and monitoring.
Project Vruksha Foundation: This foundation is focused on creating an inventory of trees to protect and manage the urban forest. Their work includes not only plantation but also documenting the health and status of existing trees, which helps in conservation and policy-making efforts.
How to Get Involved
Volunteer for Plantation Drives: Volunteering for local tree plantation drives is a direct way to contribute to greening your community. Organizations like SayTrees and BBMP's initiatives often seek volunteers for various activities ranging from planting to maintenance.
Donate to Tree Plantation NGOs: Financial contributions can aid the sustenance and expansion of plantation activities. Donations are used for buying saplings, tools, and other materials needed for tree planting and maintenance.
Educate and Advocate: Awareness is key to the success of any environmental initiative. Educating your peers about the benefits of tree planting and advocating for support from local businesses and authorities can amplify the impact of tree plantation efforts.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiatives: Companies in Bangalore can incorporate tree plantation into their CSR activities. This not only aids the environment but also boosts company morale and creates team-building opportunities.
Conclusion
Tree plantation is essential for maintaining Bangalore’s status as a garden city amidst its rapid urbanization. By getting involved in local tree planting initiatives, residents can contribute significantly to making the city a healthier, greener place to live. Whether it’s through volunteering, donating, or educating, every small step can lead to sustainable urban development. Let’s join hands this planting season to deepen our roots and green our beloved city, Bangalore.

Our forests are growing. And growing well.
Thanks to Nischitha Shenoy for this amazing video about how these urban forests and changing landscape of our cities. These forests have been created around lakes, parks, schools etc. And people are thrilled that their 2-4 hrs of volunteering can give this to the city. Each forest is taken care of properly and hence the result.
Special thanks to all nature lovers who have been part of this journey to create many carbon sinks for the city. Special thanks to all corporates who joined hands with SayTrees and supported these #forests in the #city under their #CSR Initiatives.
Increasing green cover of cities , one #FOREST at a time.
See how the urban forests we are creating are changing the landscape of cities. These dense forests will act as carbon sink for the cities in future as they are 30 times more dense as compared to traditional forests. The saplings grow 10 times fast so within 2 years we have a dense green patch of land.
SayTrees has created 15 Miyawaki forests so far with more than 70,000 saplings. More than 7000 volunteers have been part of these forests. Forests have been created in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and soon we will have forests in Noida, bhubaneswar and other cities.
This is our fight for RIGHT TO CLEAN AIR !!!

Bengaluru gets its first vertical garden to curb pollution
VIDEO SOURCE
As fast as the city name changed to Bengaluru from Bangalore, so does the growth of its IT sector over these years. "Today nearly 40% of the country's IT industry is concentrated in Bangalore." Source: BBC News
With more than 500 companies offering IT services, the industry here generates more than 17 billion revenue a year. Bengaluru is said to be a one-stop destination for a humongous number of IT jobs and career opportunities.
The IT Industry Is Booming!
No doubt, Information Technology sector has been a strong pillar in planting India's economic growth. But, does it even occur to anyone what impact the giant computers and thriving IT industry has on the environment? The concern is self-evoking.
Bengaluru that was once known for its lush green parks & farmlands is now abode to the best global and domestic technology companies. As reported by The Hindu, "Bangalore is among the 14 cities with high levels of pollution."
The consequence of this growth has a threatening impact on the environment despite the fact that this sector is flourishing with endless opportunities. What could be done in this case? Shut down the IT hub or launch more go green campaigns that hardly succeed?
Well, the officials of SayTrees, an NGO, thought of something different and implementable. Their idea was to wrap the city pillars with greenery. Hosur Road flyover balusters were the first project undertaken by the NGO.
Let's learn more about this creative measure that will prove to be beneficial in restoring greenery to the barren IT city.

Bengaluru's Vertical Garden: Symbolic of New Beginnings
Yes, an initiative has been taken by a group of "ordinary people extraordinarily determined to protect the environment." says a report by NDTV
The NGO is positive about the step was taken to control pollution in the city. They are also hopeful that the vertical garden will restore the greenery as well. With an overpowering response of 24k on Facebook, Bengaluru's people are giving the initiative big thumbs.
The Whole Idea
To make the city pollution free, SayTrees team has planted around 3500 saplings of more than ten species. This vertical garden has embarked its presence in one of the pillars of Hosur Road flyover with also an intent to bring out the scenic qualities of the city. How?
Every side of this garden has a creative pattern which makes the plants look like a work of art. An automated drip irrigation system is installed that will water the 3500 saplings every day. The journey doesn't end here.
Kapil Sharma, the founder of SayTrees, stated, "I want to convert all 200+ pillars of the Hosur Road flyover to the vertical garden soon and make the entire road look out-of-the-world. Something not present in any city in India."
The NGO is making efforts to wrap all pillars of this 9+ km flyover with such artistic looking vertical garden to make the vicinity look beautiful. Also, the SayTrees team intend to do the regular maintenance of the saplings. The project is being supported by the Bangalore Elevated Tollway Private Limited.
Packed with Environmental Benefits
As per the Facebook page of the organization, below are some of the advantages the Vertical Green Walls offer:
*  Mitigating air pollution levels by lessening extreme summer temperatures through trapping particulate matter, photosynthesis, and capturing gases.
*  Cleansing of outside air of pollutants and dust, and offsets the carbon footprint of people and fuel emissions.
*  Reducing urban heat island effect and smog
*  Home creation for birds and beneficial insects, increasing biodiversity
*  Acting as a sound-proof barrier. Hence, full stop on noise pollution as well.
The key to healthy living and a greener place is passed to you by the SayTrees initiative. It's your turn to pay attention to mother nature before it all gets ruined. As quoted by Wendell Berry, "The earth is what we all have in common."

It Started With Just 7 Friends And After 4 years It Became A Family Of 19k: Virander Sarohi's Bangalore Trekking Club (BTC)
We have been seeing quite a revolution in the recent years with youngsters coming forward to start communities, clubs and organisations to help fellow people in need. While most of their weekdays are occupied with college and office, their weekends are all the more different. Instead of lazying around on the couch and hitting a bunch of those TV remote buttons, they choose to walk in the glory of nature and not the “Four walls”.
We caught up with Virander Sarohi, founder of Bangalore Trekking Club (BTC), one of the largest sports/adventures sports community in Bangalore to know more about the activities of BTC and how it all began.
Bangalore Trekking Club ( BTC) is a non-profit organization which was founded in the year 2013 by Virander Sarohi along with a bunch of his friends. The main motive of this group was to bring in fellow trekking enthusiasts, be a point of contact for them and start to organize treks together. What started as a trekking community with just 7 people soon grew into an organization of 19000 members in just 4 years. Today they also organize events for Biking, Cycling and Running.
The Organizers of the Bangalore Trekking Club
BTC has grown quite unexpectedly. Four years ago we were just 7 guys and today it is around 19000. Now we have more responsibility in organizing the events and we need to plan accordingly.
says Virander about BTC’s mammoth growth in the past years. He also recalls the first trek that BTC organized back in 2013 to Anthargange, Karnataka. Currently, they have about 30 organizers in the community who are solely responsible for creating, scheduling and organizing the events.
Virander, a software engineer working for NS technologies says that BTC is driven only by volunteers who work full time with tech companies like HP, Dell, etc. Taking a break from their daily routine of office hours and engaging themselves in refreshing activities planned by the group during the weekends de-stresses them and ensures they stay with a positive outlook. Every weekend they almost plan around 4-5 events.
Check out: Meet the President of this Bengaluru-based NGO sparking sports in the lives of underprivileged kids
BTC recently organized the BTC Countryside Run on January 22, 2017 in association with two other NGO’s namely Rupee for Humanity and SayTrees. The Run started off at Decathlon, Sarjapur and featured 3 formats 3k,5k ad 10k formats. This marathon was an initiative to raise funds for the NGOs SayTrees, Liter of light and Rupee for humanity. BTC is also involved in many social awareness initiatives like clean-ups at Skandagiri and Makalidurga.
Clean up activities as part of the BTC community
BTC has various treks scheduled right from a “One-day” trek to the most toughest Himalayan treks. The beginner treks start off with the “One-day” event. Until and unless you complete the one-day trek you are not allowed to proceed to the “Two-day” trek as per the organization rules. They also maintain the records of every member part of their community and the events will be tagged to the respective names. The “one-day” trek events are scheduled around Bangalore namely, Horagina Betta, Ramnagara and Shivgange. BTC also follows strict rules that should be adhered by every member of the group.
Happy members of the BTC Trek
We follow strict policies. If we have planned the event at 10.30 am, we’ll start exactly and even if you are a minute late you would be missing it. If you had registered for an event and if you drop-out without informing, you will be banned for 3 months. Smoking and Drinking during the trek will land you in a life ban.
explains Virander, about the BTC rules and policies that are to be followed by every participant. Trekking has been trending in the past few days with the number of software jobs on the rise, people want to go out into the wild and detox themselves. No matter in which part of the world we exist, there will always be a spot to wander about and enjoy nature. So why should you trek? This is what Virander had to say:
Trekking has a lot of health benefits. You just dive into the nature. With the level of pollution rising up at an alarming rate in the cities, when you go for a trek you feel refreshed. 5 days at work and 2 days in the wilderness will be a good balance. Moreover when you come back and work, the productivity also increases.
Be a part of the Bangalore Trekking Club
If you want to be a part of the Bangalore Trekking Club community, you can log in to their website bangaloretrekkingclub.com and register yourself today. Become a part of one of the largest communities in the city and have fun trekking with your folks.
Also watch out for the BTC Countryside Run which will be happening every November and the Annual Badminton tournament organized by BTC.
