Why are pokemon card people (ie scalpers) so fucking insane. For context I work in one of two stores that sell pokemon cards in our town. This isn't even about Prismatic evolutions. This is about regular S+V Card packs.

Some crazy (reseller) decided that online orders are not as strict for the 3 per person as going in store is. So she ordered 3 card packs 12 times. Online team thought it was weird but the store manager let those 12 orders go though. by the time they packed those 12 another 30+ orders came through then another 20 or so.

Come in this morning to 86 orders from the same lady for the same 3 pokemon packs each order. Mangers pinged it as suspicious and sent an email to higher up before taking on those orders.

By lunch time I got the gossip from the online team that all her orders have be cancelled/refunded and she'll be blocked from ordering again.

Come to find out that in my state she ordered over 800 times through the night for the same 3 packs and other stores had pinged it and sent off emails. I think they said a total of $1700 of just S+V packs.

I need to go on a rant about the whole Pokemon cards scalping situation.

When I was a kid, I used to collect Pokemon cards. Back then, there was no such thing of cards that cost hundreds of dollars and buying everything off the shelves to sell twice or three times the price on Ebay or other sites where you can sell stuff. People were collecting them because they were Pokemon fans and collecting the cards were fun.

I decided to get back into collecting them again very recently, and seeing the hype with them gave me flashbacks to collecting when I was younger, and I've been playing the TCG Pocket app. I also work in retail, and where I work does sell Pokemon cards. We used to have them in the toys section, but now we have to keep them behind the registers and are only allowed to sell two pack per customer a day (including the tins and pre-made decks). Fortunately, where I work, we haven't dealt with scalpers coming in. However, where I work is in the same plaza as a grocery store that has one of those Pokemon card vending machines. The vending machine doesn't get stocked often, and some of the workers have to deal with people getting pissed off because the machine is sold out.

This bullshit has been happening since the pandemic. I've seen videos of grown ass men literally fighting over Pokemon cards. The majority of these people are only buying them just to sell them for more than their retail price. Meanwhile, there are kids who are around the same age I was when I started collecting them, wanting to collect them for the same reason I did when I was a kid, just for these douchebags who are in their 20s or 30s (maybe 40s at most) ruining that experience for those kids.

I'm going to say this with my whole chest. Any grown ass adult who buys an entire store's worth of Pokemon cards and does not leave any for others are losers. You are absolute scum. You make us retail workers' lives a fucking nightmare. We don't get paid enough for you to get pissy at us when we tell you we can only sell you a certain amount of packs. I found out from my manager that some guy got mad when she told him that she could only sell him two packs after the dude said that he wanted all of the cards that we currently had at the time. I've been lucky that I haven't dealt with anyone giving me trouble over the limit of Pokemon I'm allowed to sell to customers. But I have a feeling that it will happen because it has happened in other places.
