Fuck it Friday

Here’s Buck and May’s first meeting from I’ve been sleeping so long in a 20 year dark night (now I’m wide awake). I’m so close to finishing this one. It was meant to be just a small 2K fic but it’s more like 5K now .. whoops 😅. Got a few things left to type and then I can edit and maybe get someone to read it and she’ll be good to go!

Buck closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, letting the sea air fill his lungs to the brim. Evan Buckley has finally been boxed up, tape sealing the lid shut. This is his fresh start. He exhales, opening his eyes and setting off in search of breakfast and coffee, so much coffee.

The Main Street of town consists of different shop fronts including a grocery store, flower shop, hardware store, butcher and a cafe called Abuela’s. Buck sighs in relief as he opens the door to the cafe and it quickly turns into an appreciative moan as the smell of freshly brewed coffee hits him.

“If you’re letting out sounds like that just from smelling the coffee, we may need to put a warning sign up on the door for the noises you make when you actually drink some.”

A blush begins to creep up Buck’s neck as he looks behind the counter where a young woman is standing. She’s maybe 18 or 19 with warm brown skin, dark brown shoulder length hair and a face that should really be on tv or in magazines. She’s beautiful, and Buck can tell just from her kind eyes and warm smile that it’s not just a skin deep beauty.

“Uh sorry, it’s- it’s been a long couple of days and I’ve been living off of shitty gas station coffee and- and whatever they’ve had in their hot boxes.” He rubs the back of his neck, ducking his head sheepishly.

“Well today you’re going to be having fresh coffee and an equally fresh breakfast.” The young woman states, leaning casually against the counter. “I’d go with the chocolate chip pancakes, they’re extremely popular and for good reason.” She picks up a menu and slides it across the countertop towards Buck who steps forward to grab it, leafing through the pages. “I’m May by the way.”

May holds her hand out towards him and Buck accepts it, shaking her hand. “I’m Buck, and chocolate chip pancakes sound amazing.” She smiles at him and Buck is helpless but to return it with one of his own, a genuine Buck smile, not the fake one he’s had to wear for so many years. “And the biggest cup of coffee you have. I don’t care what kind, surprise me.”

Consoling myself over the fact that I’m spending my favorite holiday (Easter) alone with the fact that at least I have a dinner planned (kielbasa, pierogi, kapusta) and I have a thematic hyperfixation to indulge that day.

#my family lives 2000 miles away and I’m saving money bc I might have to fly for a funeral in the next month and I really don’t have time for #any trips but like it is a holiday I miss spending with my family and it’s been since 2020 and that was a Not Fun time #grad school has been me coming to terms with spending holidays alone and realizing that decorating for them and having festive meals is #IMPORTANT and makes me enjoy the day more!!

Ok. Real question. How many people Actually have believed in Santa? Bc I never did, mostly bc my dad never bothered with the entire pretense, so the whole concept is just. Really fucking strange to me

Putting an actual poll bc I feel like I'm losing my mind a bit thinking about how apparently widespread it is. Like. It's just so... weird? Why is this the thing people have popularized? It makes no sense.

how the HECK do I explain to my parents that I do not want bass guitar lessons from my dad, I want to teach myself from the books and videos that I have. I will literally throw away every plan I have to learn this instrument if I have to learn this way I'm not even kidding. this is why I quit guitar after two months my freshman year of high school.

#and I live in their house and pay pretty much no bills so it's not like I can make my own decision on this #like lol. I have no agency to choose to do things I want to do because my parents foot all my bills and unfortunately #they're actually really good parents despite the fact that I get frustrated with them so I actually do respect them #this would be much easier if they sucked.#I don't DO WELL with music lessons!!! I'm a self-learner I thought we learned this when I was in HIGH SCHOOL #I'm too much of a perfectionist to do ''proper'' lessons bc I get so stressed out and embarrassed whenever I do stuff wrong #that it completely shuts my brain down!! and it's WORSE with my DAD because I ESPECIALLY want to do well with him #like... this is why learning hobbies from my parents DOESN'T work for me!! I want it to be FUN not a fucking... class #and now I'm ticked off and about to cry when we were supposed to be having a fun family holiday outing. yay

#it's September which means my depression months are starting to gear up #this year I've tried my best to set up a lot of fun things to look forward to for the winter months so hopefully i dont go inactive #my boston bff is coming down for my bday #im visiting my LA bestie again for the sabrina carpenter concert #im seeing hamilton w my siblings #im going to a gender reveal party this month and also getting dinner w my high school bestie #my friend and his gf want to take me out next month for their halloweem shenanigans #christmas is coming up which means present buying which is my fav thing #im going to a rally w my college friend #gotta do a picnic at my city park w my siblings #thanksgiving is my fav holiday (the turkey eating part not the colonizer worship)#there's so much to look forward to - i hope i don't choke up and isolate again #sandy rambling
