COMM 3070 Prompt #4
On our trip to Schwbisch Hall, find one example each of transmission and ritual communication. Explain how it fits either the transmission or ritual. What information is being transmitted? What social group is being ritualistically created and maintained?

Transmission
The advertisement department of the media center in the Farmer Producer Association's office is a form of transmission communication. It is transmissive communication because it is directly informing the public of the Farmer Producer Association's values. By owning their own media center, Farmer Producer Association is able to do their own communication with the public. Within their advertisements, they make sure to only transmit information that supports their values on foods from animals (no antibiotics, free ranged, heritage breeds, etc.) and foods from plants (no pesticides, earth friendly, non-GMO, organic only, etc.). By directly putting this information in their advertisements, the Farmer Producer Association is teaching the public more about their values.

Ritualistic
The farmer's market is a form of ritualistic communication for Farmer Producer Association. It is ritualistic communication because it indirectly demonstrates their values as opposed to directly informing the public about them. While in the farmer's market, we we were able to physically take in aspects of the Farmer Producer Association's spice products like smell and sight, which communicates the celebration of their products. Additionally, selling their spices in the farmer's market instead of larger, more mainstream markets communicates that the Farmer Producer Association focuses more on demonstrating their values of organically growing food that is clean of any antibiotics and pesticides and is healthy for you as well as sustaining and maintaining organic culture within people than any other aspect such as income. By doing this, the Farmer Producer Association is ritualistically maintaining their own image to the public.
