love how Solar Opposites started out as a sitcom about two aliens who can't stand each other, stuck with their teenage clones (whom they also can't stand) & a toddler antichrist (whom they view as a sort of self-sufficient free-roaming hamster?) on a stupid planet they can't stand
and 4 seasons later it's a sitcom about a family of genderqueer aliens, headed by a gay couple in a happy & horny open marriage (with a graphic off-screen sex life, despite their canonical lack of genitalia?) teaching themselves to be okay parents to their 3 kids (whose Sci-Fi Antics now slightly-less-frequently revolve around wreaking havoc on human bystanders, and slightly-more-frequently revolve around alien-clone-sibling-bonding*), to the point that the central plot point becomes "We need to provide our toddler antichrist with a stable home environment."
(also the grumpy alien husband is too busy ingratiating his family with their suburban neighbors to even remember whom or what he dislikes. what is this show)

Unplanned Obsolescences; Or, End-of-Year Impulse Buys.
I saw the one on the left on a Goodreads list, I think, and I was SO intrigued that I immediately went to my local bookstore's website seeking it--dark weird shit is exactly my jam, and this anthology is technology-oriented, and it sounds cool!
When I plugged "Obsolescence" into their search engine, though, the first thing that popped up was the book on the right. Since I have more than a passing interest in architecture (I'm not sure where it came from or why), I figured I could get both of them, and I was delighted that they wound up being the same dimensions!

Building a robot girl and making her insatiably horny. Like this girl needs to fuck so bad, drooling and squirming, begging for any release. And then proceeding to not give her any form of genitals. Only a perfectly flat sheet of metal with no sensation. Absolutely no physical release from her mental tension.
Yeah, that sounds nice.
Then just watch her tremble and scratch at an itch she will never reach.
Her desperate need for release gives way to anger at her creator. She lunges forward in a burst of rage, but at the stroke of a button, her legs lose function. She topples to the floor.
Laughter fills the room. Her eyes try to squeeze shut, but only then does she realize her lack of eyelids. She breaks out of her coded cage, the false emotions implanted have been driven out by the intense memory of what happened to her. She touches her face, feeling soft skin, irrefutably human. She gives a soundless scream, it’s useless, her neck is only a mechanized spine adorned with necklaces of glowing wires now.
A clacking keyboard overloads her sensory-nerves one by one, each one bursting apart. It hurts so bad. But the knowledge that each one will be painstakingly rebuilt and her memory wiped again creates a fear much stronger than the pain.
When the waves of void heat reach her trembling face, pointilating the back of her eyes, she blacks out.

7 14 and 17 for the reading asks! 💕
>:3 THANK YOU 💖
7. What was your average Goodreads rating? Does it seem accurate?
4.50 😂 I mainly only remember to review books I like there, although there are some notable exceptions.....
14. Did you read any books nominated for/awarded prizes? What did you think?
>:3 the murderbot diaries won the Nebula, Hugo and Locus, and I am in LOVE WITH THEM. It has been one week. I've finished four books. I'm a quarter into Network Effect. I've cried twice while reading. EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS.
(I haven't read any other books that met that criteria hahaha)
17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?
HmmmMM. I've already said murderbot diaries. I've been branching out this year, asking for recs from friends, and I've loved ALL of them. I'll say The Luminous Dead. It's a caving horror, about the relationship between a deep space cave diver and her handler, and it's so stressful and so goddamn good.
(Not just the book itself, but I liked the narrator so much that I went through her listings and found she'd narrated OTHER authors I already liked, and picked up those books too 😂 Rabbits!!! The novelisation of the podcast!)
