Paleovember 2023, Homotherium! A distant relative of Smilodon with smaller fangs hid behind its lips, Homotherium was a particularly widespread cat, ranging from Africa and Europe all the way to the Americas before its extinction at the end of the Pleistocene. Unlike Smilodon, Homotherium was much more adapted for chasing and running down its prey instead of ambushing it.

Happy Ice Age Week: Homotherium is an extinct genus of machairodontine scimitar-toothed cat that inhabited North America, South America, Eurasia, and Africa from the Pliocene to the Pleistocene epochs around 4 million to 12,000 years ago. Making them to be one of the most widespread of all felines throughout time second only to the domestic cat. The first fossils known to belong to homotherium consisting of a partial skeleton were described in 1846 by Richard Owen as the species Machairodus latidens. It wouldn’t be until 1890 after several addition specimens where recovered that one Emilio Fabrini would determine them to be a distinct genus which he dubbed Homotherium for the Greek homos meaning same and therion meaning beast. Over the next century and a half hundreds of specimens have been recovered representing over a dozen species including: H aethiopicum,‭ ‬H crenatidens,‭ ‬H crusafonti,‭ ‬H hadarensis,‭ ‬H idahoensis,‭ ‬H ischyrus,‭ ‬H johnstoni,‭ ‬H latidens,‭ ‬H nestianus,‭ ‬H nihowanensis,‭ ‬H sainzelli,‭ ‬H serum,‭ ‬H ultimum,‭ ‬and H venezuelensis. Reaching on average 3.5ft (1.1m) tall at the shoulder and 425lbs (190kg) in weight, homotherium was around the size of a male African lion. Homotherium had shorter upper canines than other machariodonts such as Smilodon or Megantereon, but these were still longer than those of extant cats. The incisors and lower canines of Homotherium formed a powerful puncturing and gripping device, and its jaws were adapted to clamp and hold prey while inflicting damage with the canine teeth. Homotherium is notable for its unusual shape and proportions, with a comparatively compact torso and long legs. They had thick necks, large shoulders, and a sloped back giving them a profile more akin to a hyena than other big cats. These adaptations mean that Homotherium was built for energy efficient travel,‭ ‬and may have used this advantage to wear prey down in a manner similar to how wolves will constantly harass a prey animal until it collapses from exhaustion. This anatomy coupled with findings of multiple homotherium individuals found to have died together, points to Homotherium being a well adapted diurnal social pursuit/ persistence predator.

xenosmilus means “strange knife” and it’s called that because for a while there was a belief that there was a distinct divide between the bulky, long-toothed sabercats and the lean, short toothed sabercats, but the xenosmilus genus takes traits from both groups and combines them. in reality, it is closely related to the lean, short-toothed cats (its dentition is very similar), just xenosmilus was probably juicing

This is an idea I've had in my head for a while now, but now I finally made something out of it. Behold my new headcanon - that the mythological Clans in the nursery tales (LionClan, TigerClan, LeopardClan) are actually big cat species from ice age europe!
Basically, I've been watching a lot of paleontology-related videos lately about prehistoric wildlife, and it got me thinking about how there actually were big cats in England once like in the stories about the ancient Clans, but they weren't the lions, tigers, and leopards we know today. That gave me the idea that maybe the stories the Clans tell about those ancient Clans now are just heavily distorted versions of true events from England's ice age era and the real big cats that roamed the land at that time, twisted through many generations of retelling. Here, we see Squirrelflight telling her brood of three (more on why I chose these particular cats in a bit) the tales of the ancient Clans, while the true ancient cats are visible to the audience above her head, and the deeds from the nursery tales about them are painted on the cave walls.
As for the big cats themselves, there were (coincidentally enough) three big cat species in the UK during the ice age to choose from. I've chosen cave lions to represent LionClan, European ice age leopards to represent LeopardClan, and scimitar-toothed cats to represent TigerClan. Scimitar-toothed cats aren't as closely linked to tigers as cave lions are to African lions or ice age leopards are to today's leopards, but they were the only ones left to choose, and dangit they look cool so who cares? :P They didn't live in real Clans as the Clans imagine them in stories, they roamed either as solitary hunters or in loose groups (or in tighter groups like prides possibly, not totally sure what the consensus is for how these big cats lived, but there's a bit of wiggle room here considering these are fictional intelligent group-forming versions of these cats).
It was interesting trying to draw these three extinct species with no living photo refs. I used photos of lions and leopards for the cave lions and ice age leopards, but made some changes like adding more fluff for the leopard and giving the cave lion the shorter and broader muzzle and thick dense fur (but no sexually dimorphic mane) they were known to have. For the scimitar-toothed cat, there's really no living analog with quite the same facial features, so I ended up using this bit of paleoart as a reference. I gave the cave lion pretty simialar coloration and pattern to an african lion, only with a bit of a duller grayer coat. The leopard I made a bit paler than the leopards we know today, and the scimitar-toothed cat I used similar colors and pattern to a lynx, but with more darker stripe-ish markings to justify the "how TigerClan got their stripes" story.
I would like to stress here that I am not a paleoartist, I am not a paleontologist or a biology expert of any kind, I am simply a humble English major and website editor who likes to watch paleontology videos in my spare time. If there are any glaring inaccuracies in this in regards to how I depicted these species, I do apologize, I tried my best, but as I stressed I am in no way an expert or even a novice in this field.
The cave paintings above each cat's head represents the story told about their "Clan" in "Secrets of the Clans". For the scimitar-toothed cat, it's the moon shining its light down to create the shadows that will carve the dark stripes into their pelts - obviously just completely made up to explain the dark stripes these cats developed, which can be far more easily be explained as a form of camouflage in tall grass. For LeopardClan, it's the tale of Fleetfoot fighting the boars to claim the river, and for LionClan, it's Sunpelt's standoff against the giant snake Mouthclaw.
But here we have another twist. These cave paintings actually depict events, and creatures, far older than even these ancient Clans, stories passed down from their own ancient ancestors, or else surmzied through finding remainds of the ancient creatures and creating a story around them. The giant snake Mouthclaw is a titanoboa (they didn’t live anywhere near the UK, but oh well - maybe just one managed to find their way over there :P) and the "boars” Fleetfoot supposedly faced are actually the terrifying “hell pig” (actually more closely related to hippos, far more terrifying than boars in my opinion), the enteledont! I based the painting of Sunpelt on a real cave painting thought to be a cave lion, the one of Fleetfoot loosely on a real painting thought to be an ice age leopard, and the enteledont loosely on a real cave painting of a running boar. I couldn’t find any really old cave paintings of snakes in that same style, so I had to kind of wing that one. Not sure it totally fits the art style of the others, but oh well, best I could do.
Now for the last bit - why I chose Squirrel and her first litter to be the ones telling/hearing the tale. Mostly because of an interesting AU I thought of - what if the Three (not counting Hollyleaf, but oh well, I couldn’t exactly stick Dovekit in here when she wasn’t born yet) weren’t reincarnations of ancient Tribe cats, but of ancient big cats? Lionblaze would be a cave lion, of course, then maybe an ice age leopard for Dovewing and a scimitar-tooth for Jayfeather? Dunno, but it could make for a really fun AU. :D
Anyway, this was a lot of fun to draw and I’m super happy with how it turned out: :D

GENUS: HOMOTHERIUM
Common name: “Scimitar cat”
Tumblr media
LONGEVITY: About 4 million years
DISTRIBUTION: Extensive (North America, South America, Eurasia, Africa)
NOTABLE ATTRIBUTES:
Short, strong saber teeth capable of both gripping and stabbing
Large, powerful incisor teeth that interlock to create a vice or beartrap bite
Evidence suggests pack hunting behavior and caching food for later, implying high intelligence
Non-retractile claws grant increased traction and speed when running
Gracile body with hyena-like proportions which allows for high-speed pursuits
Huge eyes and nasal passages similar to modern cheetahs, creating excellent vision and increased oxygen intake when sprinting
Bite force comparable to modern cats (much higher than the “dirk-toothed” sabercat lineage)
WEAKNESSES:
Physically smaller and weaker due to slender build
Unable to do severe damage with paw swipes or climb efficiently, due to non-retractile claws that become worn down when running
A very formidable group with an impressive paper record, homotherium cats may not be the biggest, but certainly have a strong argument for being the baddest. Their near global distribution and relatively long run is a testament to their efficiency as pursuit predators. As another testament to their effectiveness, isotopic analysis of their bones show that they were regularly killing and eating mammoths, one of the largest animals in any terrestrial ecosystem. All of this suggests that they operated in coordinated groups as a well-oiled killing machine. Even in areas where they had to contend with bigger, nastier cats like lions and smilodon cats, homotherium established themselves as capable and efficient predators. However, due to their overall lack of bulk and raw power, they often found themselves as less than apex predators, and most species were overshadowed by their bigger, meaner felid cousins.
I give the homotherium genus the rank of A Tier.

thinking about dinomas instead of the many other things i need to do
previous post about it:
so. more about pre eeby:
Tumblr media
Akari the T-rex, and her three Pteranodon siblings, Dawn, Barry, and Lucas, love going on the Dinosaur train pretty much every day.
Ingo and Emmet basically run a sort of... Sociology/physiology class, where the kiddos observe different dinosaurs and try to figure out why/how they do things ("i have a hypothesis!" as Buddy says in the show)
Ingo and Emmet have friends! like Skyla the microraptor, or Elesa the Dromiceiomimus!
pretty much everyone knows about Ingo and Emmet and thier love for battles. there are specific cars on the train to house small ones, but mostly its just done near the Train station. many dinosaurs try to test their strength against the twins.
Troodons are verrry smart! so once Ingo and Emmet meet a species they've never met before, and battle them, they immediately try to figure out an effective way to take them down (again, these are all friendly battles. its enrichment, if you will)
basically Ingo and Emmet can tag team pretty much anyone. if they've met the same species before.
this is getting long so more post eeby under the cut
so, the Dino train can travel thorough time, but there are some places, if the gate is not big enough, the the train cannot go through
that, however, does not mean a dinosaur cant go through =]
so basically Ingo doesn't remember how to leave the timezone he fell in (somewhere in the Pleistocene period) and Emmet cant get there bc the time tunnels (apparently that's what they are called in the show) are too small.
pearl clan, a group of Scimitar Cat (kinda like the saber tooth/Smilodon but their teeth are Much smaller.) take Ingo in after their Lady Sneasler carries him over
no one really knows what the heck ingo is, but they let him be warden of Sneasler. both clans are actually mammals in this one, with diamond clan being Beringian lions, (who, fun fact, might have been completely maneless! which is confusing considering the cold climate, but they might have been completely covered in thick fur...)
ingo chills there for a long while, until suddenly, out of the tiny time Tunnels (or space time distortions, as the Clans call them) a T-Rex appears. the group of Tigers called the Galaxy Team take her in and they occasionally meet up with the other clans.
a few days after Akari lands in the future (ha!) a bolt hits the nobles and they go into a frenzy. Akari is sent to take care of it.
the nobles are!
Kleavor- giant beaver (cut down trees) (they were the size of bears today!)
Lilligant- Scrophulariaceae (its a flower. its kinda sentient. don't ask.)
Arcanine- Dire wolf (but a big one. for context- Dire wolves are around the same size as a yukon wolf, which is 85 cm (~2.8 ft) tall.)
Electrode- a rock. (it'd be funny)
Avalugg- the ever approaching glacial movements. (melts and gives fresh water- that's why its a noble)
and the ride pokemon just to cover all basses:
Wyrdeer- caribou
Ursaluna- giant short-faced bear (VERY big. one and a half times the size of a grizzly bear. which is. Big.)
Basculegion- Quinkana (a crocodylian! big guys!! in the time period they are in, around 6 m (20 ft) long!! there is even some debate of them being 9 m long!!)
Sneasler- giant ground sloth (up to 3 meters long!)
Braviary- Haast's eagle (one of the larges known true raptors- but with a strangle small wingspan for its size- possibly up to 3 m)
i am well aware these guys would not live in the same area btw- but im talking about a universe with dinosaurs that built a time traveling train and magic- so...
anyway, eventually Akari and Ingo meet, and both are like "i have seen you before!!" but other than that vague feeling they don't really remember. she and Ingo talk a lot, and eventually come to the realization that the space time distortions (time tunnels) could lead them home.
Ingo instinctively knows that they should Not just. walk in one, and instead they chip away the the surrounding rock of one until ingo feels its Just the right size. for what, he isn't sure. he does think that there should be some shiny metal things coming out of it... but he doesn't know where to get that kind of material, so he doesn't bother with it.
one night, they are woken up by a sheer whistle, and then a horrible crash. Ingo rushes out to the Time tunnel to see a train completely derailed in front of it, tipped over onto its side.
a white Troodon stumbles out of it.
anyway thanks for reading this far! here is some art of ingo i did =]

Shortened version of whats below:
TL;DR: name of species: Machairodontinae its a saber tooth cat idk how to describe it but ye
Longer version:
The Machairodontinae contain many of the extinct predators commonly known as "saber-toothed cats", including the famed genus Smilodon, as well as other cats with only minor increases in the size and length of their maxillary canines. The name means "dagger-tooth", from Greek μάχαιρα (machaira), sword. Sometimes, other carnivorous mammals with elongated teeth are also called saber-toothed cats, although they do not belong to the felids. Besides the machairodonts, other saber-toothed predators also arose in the nimravids, barbourofelids, machaeroidines, hyaenodonts and even in two groups of metatherians (the thylacosmilid sparassodonts and the deltatheroideans).
The Machairodontinae originated in the early or middle Miocene of Africa.[citation needed] The early felid Pseudaelurus quadridentatus showed a trend towards elongated upper canines, and is believed to be at the base of the machairodontine evolution. The earliest known machairodont genus is the middle Miocene Miomachairodus from Africa and Turkey. Until the late Miocene, machairodontines co-existed at several places together with barbourofelids, archaic large carnivores that also bore long sabre-teeth. Traditionally, three different tribes of machairodontines were recognized, the Smilodontini with typical dirk-toothed forms, such as Megantereon and Smilodon, the Machairodontini or Homotherini with scimitar-toothed cats, such as Machairodus or Homotherium, and the Metailurini, containing genera such as Dinofelis and Metailurus. However, some have recently regrouped the Metailurini within the other felid subfamily, the Felinae, along with all modern cats. The last machairodontine genera, Smilodon and Homotherium, did not disappear until late in the Pleistocene, roughly 10,000 years ago in the Americas.Based on mitochondrial DNA sequences extracted from fossils, the lineages of Homotherium and Smilodon are estimated to have diverged about 18 Ma ago. The name 'saber-toothed tigers' is misleading. Machairodonts were not in the same subfamily as tigers, there is no evidence that they had tiger-like coat patterns, and this broad group of animals did not all live or hunt in the same manner as the modern tiger. DNA analysis published in 2005 confirmed and clarified cladistic analysis in showing that the Machairodontinae diverged early from the ancestors of modern cats and are not closely related to any living feline species. Saber-tooths also coexisted in many places with conical-toothed cats. In Africa and Eurasia, sabertooth cats competed with several pantherines and cheetahs until the early or middle Pleistocene. Homotherium survived in northern Europe even until the late Pleistocene. In the Americas, they coexisted with the cougar, American lion, American cheetah, and jaguar until the late Pleistocene. Saber-toothed and conical-toothed cats competed with each other for food resources, until the last of the former became extinct. All recent felids have more or less conical-shaped upper canines.
The jaws of machairodonts, especially more derived species with longer canines, such as Smilodon and Megantereon, are unusually weak. Digital reconstructions of the skulls of lions and of Smilodon show that the latter would have fared poorly with the stresses of holding onto struggling prey. The main issue was the stresses suffered by the mandible: a strong force threatened to break the jaw as pressure was placed on its weakest points.Smilodon would have had one-third the bite force of a lion, had it used only its jaw muscles. However, the neck muscles that connected to the back of the skull were stronger and depressed the head, forcing the skull down. When the jaw was hyper-extended, the jaw muscles could not contract, but the neck muscles pressed the head down, forcing the canines into whatever resisted them. When the mouth was closed far enough, the jaw muscles could raise the mandible by some margin.
On occasion, the bone of a fossilised predator is preserved well enough to retain recognizable proteins that belong to the species it consumed when alive. Stable isotope analysis of these proteins has shown that Smilodon preyed mainly on bison and horses, and occasionally ground sloths and mammoths, while Homotherium often preyed on young mammoths and other grazers such as pronghorn antelope and bighorn sheep when mammoths were not available. Examinations published in 2022 of tooth wear patterns on Smilodon and bite marks on the bones of the peccary Platygonus by Xenosmilus suggest that machairodonts were capable of efficiently stripping and de-fleshing a carcass of meat when feeding. They also show a degree of bone consumption on par with that of modern lions, which themselves can and regularly do eat smaller bones when consuming a meal
behind the carnassials. Regardless, reconstructions of Smilodon, Machairodus, and other species are shown with long lips, often resembling the jowls of large dogs.Studies of Homotherium and Smilodon published in 2022 by Mauricio Anton et al., suggest that scimitar-toothed machairodonts like Homotherium itself possessed upper lips and gum tissue that could effectively hide and protect their upper canines; a trait they shared in common with modern cat species, while Smilodon had canines that remained partially exposed and protruded past the lips and chin even while the mouth was closed due to their great length.
Comparisons of the hyoid bones of Smilodon and lions show that the former, and possibly other machairodonts, could potentially have roared like their modern relatives.
A 2009 study compared the ratios of social and solitary carnivores in reserves in South Africa and Tanzania with those of fossils of California's La Brea tar pits, a well-known fossil bed from the Pleistocene, and how they responded to recorded sounds of dying prey, to infer whether Smilodon was social or not. At one time, the La Brea tar pits consisted of deep tar in which animals became trapped. As they died, their calls attracted predators, which in turn also became caught. It is considered the best Pleistocene fossil bed in North America for the number of animals caught and preserved in the tar, and may be similar to the situation created in the study. The assumption was that solitary carnivores would not approach the sources of such sounds, because of the danger of confrontation with other predators. Social carnivores, such as lions, have few other predators to fear, and will readily attend these calls. The study concluded that this latter situation most closely fit the ratio of animals found at the La Brea tar pits, and therefore that Smilodon was most likely social.
These cats were tenacious and adaptable animals, thriving for hundreds of thousands of years before their time finally came to an end. Saber-toothed cats went extinct between 8,000 and 10,000 years ago, as the ice age drew to an end and their prey began to die out.
many of the extinct predators commonly known as "saber-toothed cats", including the famed genus Smilodon, as well as other cats with only minor increases in the size and length of their maxillary canines. The name means "dagger-tooth", from Greek μάχαιρα (machaira), sword. 80. earth tones or jewel tones?
OUGHHH god this was so hard...... jewel tones for me personally however on other people i tend to be more drawn to earth tones!! (my gf is an earth tones guy for example!)
98. favorite historical era?
oh good heavens im gonna explode. ok. SO. man. man. man. theres so many im probably forgetting because i am very autistic about a lot of historical eras. however. wait i need to mention. i took art history classes however sadly due to the time in my life i took them at i do not remember jack shit</3 and also i was super autistic about history as a kid but ive forgotten most of that as well. the things i remember clearest however are:
italian high renaissance (who else is a davinci girl bc I AM!!!)
pleistocene epoch (aka: the ice age) SHOUTOUT TO THE SMILODON!!! i love you more than anything american scimitar cat<3 american scimitar cat smilodon is my best fucking friend now and forever. FUN FACT. i was so autistic about this when i was like 6 or 7. that when assigned a school project to get a cardboard box and turn it into an animal and then put facts about the animal on the box. i turned mine into a scimitar. wait i havent elaborated. those are a relative of the sabre-toothed tiger. Anyways. my box animal was a scimitar. i was later informed i was the only child in the history of that project in that class to have done a presentation on an extinct animal. i felt So Special and happy. :)!!
honorable mention: baroque period went off the shits as well. AND YOU KNOW WHAT. SHOUT OUT TO SPECIFICALLY THE 1880S. THATS WHEN THE LAST TARPAN (widely considered ancestor of majority of modern horses) AND THE LAST QUAGGA (subspecies of plains zebra) PERISHED. YOU WILL FOREVER BE FAMOUS. speaking of the 80s. big huge fan of the (19)70s for architecture and musical purposes. and also i just miss the 2000s every day. lol<3 oh god wait i cant post this without saying shoutout to the thylacine i saw one at a dc museum unexpectedly and legit almost started crying. wait. i think i have a photo of me with it. hang on. ( i visited the museum for my birthday<33) ok i found the photo and im gonna preface this with: this area of the museum was Empty and in a corner i was wearing my mask the rest of the trip. wanted to clarify that its important to me. anyways. when the fucking autism hits:
Tumblr media
it was the one behind the curtain btw. thank you so so fucking much for these questions btw so so fun to answer they hit Niches in my Autism brain.<3333

Common Types of Mammal Fossil for Sale and Their Significance
Tumblr media
Mammal fossils offer a glimpse into evolutionary history, preserving anatomical details across vast spans of time. Many major groups like saber-toothed cats, mammoths, and ancient horses have no living descendants, making fossils the only evidence of their existence. For scientists, mammal fossils provide data points to study and compare anatomy, reconstruct phylogeny, and piece together aberrant ecologies of the past. But fossils also captivate public and collector imagination, spurring interest in acquiring mammal fossil for sale from legitimate commercial sources.
But what specific mammal fossils are typically available for collectors seeking a special addition to their personal paleontology holdings? Here is an overview of common mammal fossil offerings, from iconic carnivores to obscure herbivores, and how their skeletal remains contribute to modern evolutionary understanding:
Saber-Toothed Cats
Several saber-toothed cat species (Machairodontinae) appear frequently in fossil sales. Smilodon, the giant saber-tooth, headlines this group with its eight-inch canines. Less familiar relatives like scimitar cats (Homotherium) and dirk-toothed cats (Megantereon) show parallel evolution of elongated teeth for shearing flesh. Studying their skeletal adaptation illuminates the rise and fall of mammalian apex predators across different continents.
Primitive Whales
50 million years ago, whale ancestors resembled large deer, with hooves and long snouts. Primitive whales like Pakicetus and Ambulocetus seem wildly disparate from today’s leviathan cetaceans, but their fossils document an intriguing terrestrial-to-aquatic transition. Key evolutionary milestones like Pakicetus retaining wolf-like teeth while adapting inner ears for underwater hearing have come to light through fossil study. These fossils remain rare, but museums occasionally deaccession duplicate specimens into commercial trade.
Tumblr media
Oreodonts
Unusual mammal fossils called oreodonts epitomize the eclectic selection collecting offers. These sheep-sized, hoofed herbivores filled ecological niches between camel and horse varieties for over 25 million years but disappeared in the Miocene. Well-preserved oreodont fossils like jaws laden with cusped molars turn up for sale, allowing scientists to refine obscure branches in the mammal evolutionary tree. Oreodont fossils for sale provide a unique glimpse at a successful group of plant-eaters now extinct.
The fossil mammal offerings above only scratch the surface of available specimens that illuminate everything from marine carnivore gigantism (megalodon shark teeth) to the rise of mammals after dinosaurs (Eocene mammals). Amassing fossil data aids scientists in painting intricate ecological portraits of the past. Mammal fossils in a mineral store offer more than aesthetic appeal or financial value for serious collectors - they are windows into eras, epochs, and specialist herbivores before the age of man.
Summary
Whether shopping dentitions of saber-tooths, splay-tusked mastodons, or the molars of peculiar oreodonts, consumers bear responsibility for sourcing reputably when acquiring mammal fossil for sale. Supporting commercial paleontological dealers invested in ethics preserves fossils’ scientific worth along with their collectability. Destructive excavation practices or illicit trading hampers studying specimens in crucial geologic context. But the legal fossil market provides celebrated artifacts and bizarre oddities to enjoy while also advancing public understanding about the progression of mammalian life across deep time.

i need a warrior cats like book where they’re saber or scimitar toothed cats during the pleistocene. instead of fuckinh up the birds in the local ecosystems for the kill pile they hunt big shit :))
seriously. i think it’d be so interesting to create a sort of mythos for them too??? like maybe these cats really respect mammoths. maybe there’s a clan that exclusively preys on them and they are looked down on idk. or giant sloth stuff. i want to bring up those aquatic sloths.
and then there’s people—who usually killed carnivores due to prey pressure—what role would they have in the story? this is at the start of civilization too

Dogs or Cats? His Mabari.
Birds or Nugs? Bird songs are nice.
Snakes or Spiders? Neither, they kinda spook him.
Coffee or Tea? Coffee is too bitter, tea tastes a lot better.
Ice Cream or Cake? Before leaving his clan he's never had sweets, loved a small piece of carrot cake he tried in Denerim.
Fruits or Vegetables? He loved picking berries with his friends when he was little.
Sandwich or Soup? Convenient and easy to make. Now, the issue is bread.
Magic or Melee? Magic is hard to understand, he prefers "throwing fists", or just using any weapon really.
Sword or Bow? Used mostly the bow during his hunter days but got used to swords after becoming a Grey Warden.
Summer or Winter? It's nice staying outside in summer, and he doesn't risk freezing his fingers off when he ventures in the woods.
Spring or Autumn? The sounds and smells of autumn always enticed him to stay out until it was too dark to see where he was going. He got scolded many times.
The Past or The Future? After seeing how much of the world he'd missed up until then, the possibilities in front of him shone just a little brighter.

Tattoos: No, but would surely like to get one.
Dogs or Cats? Both, preferably small and fluffy
Birds or Nugs?
Snakes or Spiders? Snakes scare him a bit because they are slithery and long, so he'll definitely go for spiders.
Coffee or Tea? Back when he lived in Neverwinter he got to taste rich, expensive brews. It was one of the only nice things there.
Ice Cream or Cake? He has a sweet tooth.
Fruits or Vegetables? Most fruits he'll like, but vegetables? You'll have to hide them in his food if you want him to eat them...
Sandwich or Soup? Lentil soup was the only thing he could eat back when he traveled with his mom. He still thinks soup is still very good, but can't even touch lentils.
Magic or Melee? Usually, the fire speaks for him.
Sword or Bow? His aim is quite off... Let's just say he prefers to keep it simple and slash through his enemies like butter.
Summer or Winter? Winter is chilly and fun. He really likes cold nights and walking around in the snow.
Spring or Autumn? Autumn makes him feel at ease, as if the wiltering of the trees were some sort of cleansing for him.
The Past or The Future? His life has been stolen from him until his escape when he was eighteen. This freedom is very dear to him, and he has rarely reflected on his time in Neverwinter. The only thing he misses are the "two pieces of his soul" as he calls them, Bacchus and Crema.
