Before considering what to say next, Hunter looked at the time and shook his head. He deleted the message and made another attempt at cleaning, only to hear his own scroll buzz on the table. 

hello_willow: Knock knock. 

A matching knock tapped on the front door. Raising an eyebrow, Hunter padded quietly to open it, and there, under the light of the Noceda’s porch – bundled in a thick jacket and a woolen hat in the shape of a bee, stood Willow Park. Her breath hung heavy in the air.

Willow: It’ll all work out! My dads had no idea what they were doing when I was born and I’m okay.

Hunter: Okay! So I’m making all of her onesies and socks and stuff out of organic fabrics and we’ve gotta get some free range griffins to make sure that the eggs are super fresh…

Also, I don’t want to put too much pressure on you Willow, so we can supplement her *goes red* feedings with spider milk formula, but I’m milking the spiders myself so you can get some rest. Oh! What kind of spiders give the best milk? Maybe the free range griffins could provide the spiders? And I’m making all her food from stuff grown organically in our garden… gotta make sure she’s got all the physical contact. Babies need lots of love, so I’m making a sling.

One for each of us and also a double sling so we can carry her together?

So if SCOM! Hettie is obsessed with House (think Patti and Selma with MacGyver) what’s the other Coven Heads favorite shows? Might as well throw Kimimora in there for good measure.

SCOM Micro Writing Notes: Guilt.

There's a lot of guilt explored in SCOM. Obviously, Hunter has his own guilt of his past under Belos -- but he also experiences the guilt of those around him.

With the Sigil Sickness becoming more of a concern, Hunter has to accept the fact that he branded witches under Belos -- and this led to families losing their loved ones.

Hettie is problematic in so many ways -- and even though she has a loving family, including a nephew who adores her -- Bettie implies that sometimes even those you love choose paths that make it VERY difficult for you to love them.

It's fair to assume that while Bettie (and likely her siblings) LOVE Hettie, they struggle with liking her.

In general, she has been one of the most fun background characters to write and I kind of love her family. That's about as close to OC's as I am going to get attached to.

In an earlier chapter, Hettie mentioned that not only did she have a hand in the beginnings of the Basilisk Experiments, but the "perfection" of the Sigil. She admits that there shouldn't BE a Sigil Sickness -- but her research is the reason that Bettie lost her husband (Bennie's Dad), and why the Cutburn Matriarch (The siblings mother) passed.

She may lack tact and a TON of self awareness, but it's safe to say that Hettie -- who in spite of turning her back on Hunter as an abused child soldier -- LOVES her nephew. It's safe to say she holds guilt to what she's done if even only as to how it directly affected her own kin.

And then there's Darius.

Still recovering from writing that one! I was quite happy with how it came out!

Needless to say, this reveal has been building up FOR A VERY LONG TIME.

Cutburn Sisters asks open! 🤷‍♀️

Feeling surprisingly attached to SCOM OCs (or partial OCs like Josh).

This comes after writing a scene with Hettie and her sister which went longer than expected, because it was such a blast to write.

I’m really bad with OCs (main characters at least) but I’m having a great time with these side ones.

As I mentioned, Bettie and Bennie’s main appearance arcs are done in SCOM, but I have ideas for them if I get to a follow up.

Same with “Josh” who was a background character in TOH.

Tomorrow's chapter is ALMOST THERE and Hunter has a ton of rage -- but this mostly closes out the False Golden Guard arc as it had been established A YEAR AGO?!?!?!?!?! I hope you all enjoyed that ride.

After this we will be heading to the Inner Circle Parole Hearings. Or at least the first of the three.

How 'bout no longer being masochistic?

Hunter wants to ask Gil and Harvey to dinner at Camila's. But his own guilt is still heavy on his shoulders. After all, he's never done this before and even after a year? Unpacking the trauma of being raised under Belos' neglect haunts him.

But Luz might have managed to find a way to make the holiday even more awkward for everyone.

SCOM New Chapter:

Through my full-blown implosion, I'll stay golden and retreat.

This was a fun one to write.

As the sun rose above the red trees, a bleary eyed Edric Blight opened the doors of the storefront to greet Hunter and Willow. But while Ed seemed surprised at how easily Hunter slipped behind the barista counter, speedily restocking the fridge and wiping down the counters, Ed also seemed equally annoyed at Josh, who had insisted on following Hunter around. 

“Heeeeeeey. Josh! Wanna verse me in some Street Fighter II before it gets crazy?” Ed had taken a spot near the retro arcade cabinets, but Josh waived him off. 

“I already know all your moves, man.” Josh had shrugged dismissively before turning back to Hunter. 

“Oh! I’m sorry! I didn’t realize I bore you now!” Edric visibly had scowled in Hunter’s direction, but he hardly had the time to figure out what that was about.

SCOM WRITING NOTES:

The Sweet Child Universe has its own Coffee House AU!

Maybe it is me being nostalgic for my barista days, but I really enjoy the headcanon that Hunter would take a job at Robin's Roast as a barista.

It is the type of work that is very task oriented and focused, but it provides small comforts for those you serve. Coffee is life.

I keep saying that this phase of SCOM is all about Hunter taking control of how his story is told by the public as Willow's due date closes in, and a whole new book of unwritten pages and experiences will be placed before him.

If he's going to be stalked by the media, he is going to make sure he is doing things that make him happy and help heal the damage done by Belos that remains ten years later -- lest others try to re-write a part of that.

So, while the entire stint making specialty drinks with intricate foam art -- and some of the weird requests for his autograph -- exhausted Hunter greatly, he did enjoy just doing some menial tasks that made people happy and encouraged them to donate to a good cause.

Also, he got to see Willow chill and relish in her own accomplishments outside of his drama and her difficult pregnancy.

There's a bunch of personal stuff in here. It is February in SCOM universe. I recall really, desperately trying to cling to anything that could be ME outside of what was happening in my own body. Literally all anyone wanted to talk to me about was my pregnancy or how my size (4’11 with a tiny frame) and the fact that I was carrying twins meant I’d definitely be delivering early (I didn’t!) and how difficult having one newborn was and that the two would be too much for me. (It was nuts but I have no frame of reference for anything else.)

Willow isn’t having twins, but it is a high risk pregnancy. As we know, Hunter feels VERY responsible for the complications Willow is having, but he's determined to face whatever is needed with her! I recall work shopping this fic with a mutual and they mentioned that they'd seen fics where Willow gets pregnant and Hunter freaks and runs... and I just don't see him being like that?

As Loz AKA @probablyhuntersmom has noted in multiple Metas, "Family" and "Our Family" are keystone phrases for Hunter. He's got his found and chosen family now, and he's about to start one of his own. He's in it for the long haul, and though the fear that coming from abuse would perpetuate the cycle still lingers, there's a lot more there now.

Hunter knows he wants to be a loving father, but outside forces are shoehorning him into a narrative he's realizing FINALLY isn't fair, because his own story is much more complex, and by the Titan's will, he's going to knuckle down and stick by Willow no matter what. Because this is what he's always wanted.

Unfortunately there are some who have given into wild conspiracy theories that Hunter had something to do with the disappearance of this crazy biotch.
