I'm really not a ship person (nothing against shipping its just not for me usually) but something about Scott rarepairs really intrigue me

Scott rarepairs are so awesome. That’s a man who cares so deeply about those he loves and never expects to be loved back with the same caliber.

The people who he’s commonly paired with are the same people he hangs out with a lot, so they’re more inclined to be aggressive with him when not allied with him. That’s their friend! Of course they’re gonna mess with him.

The people in Scott rarepairs usually don’t talk with Scott as often, but they know his kind of humor because most of them hang out with Cleo and Gem a lot. They also tend to know from the life series that Scott is not a force to be reckoned with. That means that they have a lot of respect for Scott AND a lot of affection for people like Scott.

Something that helps is that Scott is one of the friendliest people in that social circle. I believe that myself, but I say it aloud because so many other people in that social circle have stated such, which is absolutely a testament to how pleasant Scott is to people. People are SO quick to get comfortable around Scott. Tango, Etho, Grian, Bdubs, and Skizz don’t get to talk to Scott very often, and yet they’ve all had on camera moments where they expressed how cool or sweet they find Scott to be.

“Smajor was this other… guy on the life series, and, every time I passed him, he’s kinda nice, and then we talked more and he’s really nice, and now I admire him, and now I like him, and now I- I really like this guy!” - Skizz on the Imp & Skizz podcast describing how he didn’t want to make connections with people for their clout when he joined Third Life, but he couldn’t help but be drawn to Scott. This is also, coincidentally, how crushes tend to develop, Skizzleman.

Scott is a very earnest and caring person, even in the life series, a death game, where that’s not particularly rewarded 100% of the time. Everybody has so much respect for Scott, both because they know that he’s a lot like Cleo and Gem and they have a lot of love and respect for Cleo and Gem and because their personal experiences with Scott have made it clear how sweet and competent he is.

I love Smajor rarepairs, because I’m not into relationships where one person is pulling all of the weight. A lot of mainstream Smajor ships reduce Scott to his relationship and let the other person have their own things going on. There tends to be a lot of focus on the other person, like they’re Scott’s whole world. Rarepairs tend to have Scott’s partner(s) treat him with reverence, which forces Scott to confront his insecurities, how he feels like he needs to earn other people’s affection.

Tango is immune to flirting, but he’s very responsive to Scott’s teasing and eager to banter with him. He doesn’t talk to Scott a lot, but he clearly really likes Scott and how earnest Scott is.

Etho absolutely thinks that Scott is incredible. You can see it in literally every single interaction they have. Etho and Scott probably talk the least out of everyone I mentioned, but I think Etho pays the most attention to Scott and has simply become endeared to him because he sees so much of Cleo and Gem in Scott.

Grian ALWAYS has a compliment for Scott. When he first met Scott, he didn’t trust Scott because “no one’s that happy”. When he learned that Scott’s just like that? Instantly loved Scott. How could you reject someone who’s clearly so happy just to spend time with you? He loves to tease Scott. I think he sees Scott as someone he can properly match wits with, what with how they both love to make short little games and are usually chaotic until they’re the least chaotic in a group and immediately become the responsible one.

Bdubs is terrified of Scott. There’s no other way to put it. Bdubs is more afraid of Scott than he is of Cleo and Gem. He commented during the fourth episode of Wild Life on how Scott is a really hard target. There was fear in his voice. He later tried to convince Tango not to go after him. He really didn’t want to upset Scott. He’s so traumatized after that game of tag. HOWEVER. Bdubs knows that Scott is a man of reason. Bdubs isn’t usually worried about attacking groups that his group is on neutral grounds with, because he knows that they’ll eventually attack him first if he doesn’t beat them to the punch. That’s how this game works. Scott doesn’t do that, and Bdubs has taken note of that and trusts that. Bdubs trusts Scott not to attack him without a reason.

Skizz? I could go on for HOURS about Skizz. Skizz has literally admitted to subconsciously treating Scott like he’s Impulse, who Skizz loves to death, who Skizz trusts when he can’t call anyone else, who Skizz kisses on the temple when they haven’t seen each other for a while. Skizz is a very kind person, but, in game, he’s not the most levelheaded person. Scott is both kind AND levelheaded, which Skizz has a lot of respect for. Scott doesn’t even have a temper to lose when it comes to verbal conversation. Hurt him or his friends and he’ll make you wish you hadn’t, sure, but words will never hurt him. I think Skizz honestly sees a lot of Impulse in Scott, whereas most people see Cleo. People compare Cleo to Scott, because they’re both petty and witty. Skizz compares Impulse to Scott because they’re both petty and survivalists. Skizz has commented many a time on how Scott is so much better than Skizz at PVP and how impressed he is that Scott can evade the entire server when they’re hunting him. Apparently, Skizz (and Impulse) thinks that Scott gives the BEST hugs. Apparently, Scott is the only person whose hugs make Skizz feel like he could fall asleep right then and there.

Another thing I’ve noticed about my favorite Smajor rarepairs is that they all love to make Scott laugh. When Tango teases Scott, it’s never about anything serious. It’s always to make Scott giggle. When he’s around Scott, Etho LOVES to do and say things that would make Cleo or Gem laugh, and they work on Scott too. It’s the “wet cat” behavior he emphasizes when he’s with Cleo and Gem, because he knows that it makes them laugh. Scott has never poked fun at Etho for being “washed up” or “a wet cat”, but he does laugh when Etho emphasizes the “lost puppy” behavior. Outside of the life series, Grian isn’t particularly interested in making Scott laugh, but he does like to impress Scott. When Grian knows Scott’s watching, he really challenges himself. I think it’s because he, himself, is very impressed with Scott. Bdubs absolutely loves to make Scott laugh. You can see it in Scott’s escape room videos. He says so many silly things just to get a reaction out of Scott. You CANNOT tell me that “Bdubs, there’s something in this room that will allow you to swim up lava” “the bed” “no, think something you can drink” “the lava” was genuine. I’m completely sure that Bdubs knew Scott meant that there was a hidden fire res potion but just wanted to be silly. Skizz LOVES Scott’s laugh. He’s said it before. Skizz loves to make Scott laugh so much. He loves hearing Scott’s laugh. It’s so giddy and full and joyous.

Maybe I’m projecting a little bit. As a lesbian, you can’t believe how grateful I am that the only traits my mother has ever asked me to find in a partner is 1) someone you can trust and 2) someone who makes you laugh. She doesn’t ask for my partner to be rich or cisgender or a man or conventionally attractive or of a certain race or religion. That’s kind of what makes me love Smajor rarepairs so much. They respect and trust Scott, and they love to make him laugh.

im so sorry i got this in my inbox and chuckled really hard and knew i wanted to try and do this properly but that ended up being harder than i thought it would be actually. this is so awesome i had to draw my own little scott 👍 and 👎 to be friends with urs.

behaving out of line - thought process here is that scott obvs doesn't like it when his male or female allies go out of line. i tried to put it a little closer to 🚫WOMEN🚫 because I do think he reacts more when Pearl does it vs Impulse or Martyn but he also is too scared of Gem to question her so I think it balances out a bit. the absolute craving of control overrides the internalized patriarchal mindset.

showing vulnerability - extends to shows of "weakness", specifically scott historically looks down on men who rely on their teammates, such as Jimmy with himself or Bdubs with Pearl in SL. women can show vulnerability but if said vulnerability is in contradiction to one of his stronger beliefs he will override it i.e. with Pearl who doesn't exactly do it in the most palatable way.

emotional support and validation - scott cares much more deeply for womens opinions on him and will go to them first for validation, cleo is the most obvious example but him constantly fishing for forgiveness from pearl is very similar, as is him appealing to gem at every given opportunity. jimmy is the only man he chases for validation from but to me that rings more true for validation of their romance than his actual emotions.

sexualisation - also fair self-explanatory. usually tagged on with a haha jk

being my ally and winning a season -despite the whole "girls and the gays" reputation he has, Scott has teamed with just as many men as women and clearly is not against his male allies springboarding off of him like Martyn does in LimL. He does, however, tend to favour female allies when it comes to trying to make them win (i.e. see: his interactions with Gem vs Impulse in SL)

self sacrifice* - this one's a bit tricky but as mentioned in the vulnerability section Scott seems to be of the mindset that men should sacrifice themselves for women and not the other way around. Bdubs and Pearl being the key example here but also Gem and the Scotts' whole dynamic. His attitude towards the Nosey Neighbours is a bit harder to talk about but it's fairly clear that he Does Not Like Them. This might also tie in to his whole thing with Pearl and not acknowledging the sacrifices she made for him during LL.

being my object of desire - yeah duh. jimmy yes but scott is very open with flirting with men, including etho in the latest episode. women can be attractive but they can't be attractive specifically To Him.

Our thoughts and observations under the cut!

Round 1:

I clearly thought Ninjaslap would be the biggest sweep, but pixltoile suprisingly fought well, And fish yuri left no shot to Zaypixel and Geminitay

Round 1.1.3 was extremly close, but Shubble x Hypno won by O.8%! (≈4 peoples!)

We already got two piece of "propagandart" (propaganda art) in round 1, and both were for Fish yuri! (by @t4tpolypd and @staringamassivemistakeintheface)

Round 2:

Mogbeans/Swamp boys tried hard but T4T yuri was stronger (My boys 😭 - Admin 1)

Littlesoot got its ass kicked by hotguy/fundy and was crying in a corner when suddendly, out of nowhere, it took itlwblr by storm, broke containment, the poll broke 1k votes, became the most noted of the brackets (yet) and won with a large margin!

FWhilza fought well but Bighills was stronger

Fish Yuri still prevail with the biggest sweep yet (87.3%!!!)

Jojosolos/Jack Manifold vs Tommyinnit/Scott Smajor was the closest yet! (50.1 to 49.9!!!!)

Thoughts/Theories:

I think that Lizzie would fit right in with the besties specially with her and Cleo’s dynamic during session 1 and the hilarious moment of her attempting to make Etho and Cleo question her secret task during session 2. I know they rarely interacted this session but with Cleo and Lizzie both having this aura that intimidates people and Etho being our favorite wet cat in his weird and quirky arc, this could become a very interesting group of people to watch moving forward. Honestly if they group together they’d be this typical and iconic trio of best friends between two girls and one guy in tv shows.

Grian and Scar should join up with Jimmy and Martyn and they could upgrade the big dogs to a wolf pack. I know Scott interrupted this canon event earlier but with Grian and Martyn to babysit them its gonna be alright… I think? Also more Grian and Scar?? Yes please! Tbh it’s only a matter of time for scar to be on yellow so it’s perfect haha.

The Bog dogs might join the secret pupper patrol alliance with the invitation from pearl to also have a dog army. It’s very fitting and imagine the final battle. I feel like this season will be the one where having a dog army can really overpower a player and win the game for someone since there is no regeneration so moving forward I’ll add those who are planning to make a dog army in the list of possible winners this season. So originally I thought one of the Gem and Scotts might win this season and I still think so but I’ll add Cleo and Pearl to that. The Big Dogs too if they go through with having a dog army.

Expand your thoughts on a smajor bdoubleo alliance being bad please. I would like to hear how specifically bdubs and scott are weird about loyalty in a Bad Way.

i honestly don't know enough about smajor to say, he's a pretty complex character and i'd be worried i got stuff wrong 😭 but i do think a lot of it comes down to how others (aka fandom) view them (similar to jimmy and etho. this fake alliance is sort of like the misinterpretation brothers). scott has a wider fandom reputation as an extremely loyal giver and self-sacrificer who loves his allies sooo much. i mean you just have to look at the theory that he won last life by spiting the watchers and being the only loyal person to understand how fucked the view of him was. (this is an extremely wrong take btw. i will kill you. i WILL kill you.) despite his shortcomings and actual insane person behaviour (see all of dl + aspects of 3l if you're willing to dabble in toxic fh meta) he still often gets portrayed as some sad angelic character who is extremely loyal and always has and always will be- a character who in spite of, or even because of, his frequent disloyalty, as seen as the epitome of loyalty, largely because of his own attempts to disguise the narrative and portray himself as such.

bdubs, however, is the polar opposite- a character who, because of his extreme commitment to loyalty, is actually seen as the epitome of disloyalty, largely because of others' attempts to cast him as such. i have said this a million times before but i will always go to bat for bdubs being one of the most loyal characters in the life series, just in the wrong way; he is loyal to a select few within the group, even when he is not allied with them or even actively against them (see his relationship with etho in 3l or liml). because his priorities are skewed he then becomes disloyal by default to all others, including his actual allies. a lot of this stems from his relationship with impulse in both 3l and dl but getting into that would double the length of this post and also my blood pressure count, so i'm not gonna do that here.

the problem with this is that while they're individually fascinating characters i have absolutely zero idea how they would interact in a close alliance, especially since i can't even think of a situation where they've even worked together briefly. so yeah. would scott immediately cast bdubs aside and blame that perceived disloyalty to put bdubs in the wrong and himself in the right? if anything i can see them being an alliance in name only, sharing a base and tools but barely speaking to each other before eventually splitting off. i really don't even know where to begin with them.

I'm baffled that people are hating on you for having an opinion on a fictional Minecraft block man aksbahf. Even as someone who does enjoy FH (mostly the fandom version of it honestly), it's bonkers to judge someone for NOT liking a ship? Or not enjoying a character's behavior? Or for interpreting on-screen interactions differently than they do??? Like jesus, the whole point of fandom is to enjoy it the way you want to. You're not hurting anyone by seeing a pairing as negative based on what you watched. Look at friggin' Desert Duo, half the fandom writes 'em as toxic and divorced, and the other says they're devoted and inseparable. Different stances and interpretations make for a mixed and flavorful fandom experience and a melting pot of awesome stories and art. Good lord, god forbid you like something different or dislike a specific part of a media that you love lol

Oh god if only it were like desert duo, if only... But lmao yeah right!! I'm sorry that Scott smajor damnthatsalongusername is a guy that exists in real life I really don't care. I just want to discuss what I see from the series! And the more I see people with similar opinions to mine talk, the more evident it becomes that those opinions used to be so minimal because of this kind of fandom treatment. And so my heart goes out to anyone who dares talk about said opinions even if it gets them accused of homophobia lol. I'm with you guys...

And the fact that you like FH... but you're on my blog and share this sentiment... Is that so hard... Is it so hard to be decently sensible about different opinions and interpretations...

Also I do like FH too haha, I don't think I can say I ship it but obviously it's really compelling to me, and I've said it before and I'll keep saying it that I very much enjoy a lot of fluffy FH art and I really like them in ESMP1 for example. But no, I said they were toxic in 3L so that means I hate them!!!! It's ridiculous how much of a black and white matter this is to so many people, I don't understand... And the thing is that I WANT to understand! As you said, it's cool and intriguing! Differing discussion only adds to any one subject matter. Soft FH people probably wouldn't change my mind but I'd love to understand their points if only those points weren't something along the lines of "shut up you're wrong" (obviously not everyone!! But it is what I keep seeing in the FH tag lol)

I've seen people proclaim Jimmy as the abusive one, or proclaim ranchers as toxic etc, and I don't see it but man does it intrigue me! It's absurd to me personally, but I'm not telling you to shut up - you can't just say that and not tell me more! I wanna know what people are thinking without shutting one another down...

My 'new Hermit' thoughts and predictions

Might as well record these thoughts here, so people can come back and point and laugh once we know who the new Hermits actually are ;)

So far, we have a few clues from the existing Hermits:

In a reply to Xisuma's tweet, both Doc and Cub made references to Snoop Dogg.

As a result of this, some people are speculating new Hermits whose names begin with 'S' and 'D'. We have a few choices for 'S' but the three that I've seen mentioned most often are:

Solidarity (Jimmy)

Smallishbeans (Joel)

Skizzleman

For 'D' there's only one I can think of (I'm not counting Dream, because there's no way it'd be him) and that's:

Dangthatsalongname (Scott Smajor)

However, Snoop Dogg could be a reference to something else entirely: "Fo shizzle". Which... kinda rhymes with someone's name, right?

Remembering here that the new Hermits are very likely to be people that many of the existing Hermits have interacted with in the past, either through the Life Series, MCC, Clash of the Creators, or other SMPs such as the Empires crossover. We know that new Hermits have to be agreed upon with 100% 'Yes' votes from all existing Hermits.

Two that I think we can discount are:

Both of them, when asked (multiple times) in their streams, have said they're not interested in joining Hermitcraft. And in Pix's case it would be doubly awkward, since he's also the voice of the Hermitcraft Recap. So, much though I would love to see them both (Pix especially) on HC, it's not likely to be either of them. Of the two (if it were either of them) it would more likely be fWhip than Pix (though I would love to be proved wrong. This is mostly a Pix-centric blog, after all.)

Another outlier is:

Much though I love Sausage, and much though I think he'd be a great fit for HC, I don't think it's him. He loves his smaller, modded servers, and he's really into his roleplay, whereas HC is not really a roleplay server. They do have story arcs - and Sausage would be great in those - but I honestly don't think he's one of the two new Hermits.

So then our second clue comes from something ZombieCleo said, which was posted in Tango's Discord server. I'll paraphrase it below:

i know there have been other hints (and slip-ups) on places like Twitch streams etc, but given just those two clues alone my predictions are:

New Hermit no.1 - Smallishbeans Joel has the building chops, and he's capable of putting in the grind typical of Hermitcraft. He'd also be all-in for pranks and server-wide shenanigans. He would be the Balanced/Builder type. New Hermit no.2 - Skizzleman Because honestly? Everything's pointing towards him being one of them. Particularly the Snoop Dogg references. Fo shizzle, it's Skizzle. (Although where he would find the time is another matter. From listening to the Imp & Skizz Podcast, that dude already seems busy as heck.)

what a horrible world we live in that interpreting some of Jimmy's relationships as unhealthy gets equated to Jimmy being bad at things. I have no real gripes with your or anon's interpretations excluding all the "this is correct and what the others think is wrong" bits forced into the maintags for everyone to see and feel bad about, but I can't help but be annoyed how much of the time, people, in defending flower husbands, resort to "so you're calling Jimmy stupid. Hi Anon! Thanks for the ask! 🩵 I actually have never said that Jimmy was bad at anything. I said that he suffers the consequences of his actions just like everyone else does, and that is okay and normal. He is often reduced to his failures without focus on his successes and strengths. In fact, the point of my post was not about Jimmy! It was about Scott, and how Scott, oftentimes, is not playing a character in the Life Series. That’s why it’s very hurtful when people say that Scott is “manipulating” Jimmy. Scott is just being himself, because Scott and Jimmy are friends. When you call Scott “manipulative” or “toxic” or describe his relationship with Jimmy as “unhealthy”, you are talking about the content creator. Scott is not playing a character. That is just how he is. I even saw someone say that Flower Husbands was “canonically abusive”! This is not true! Scott and Jimmy were not trying to portray an abusive relationship. It is normal to punch your friends in Minecraft! Imagine punching your friend in a video game and everyone calling you “toxic” and “abusive” when you were just being a friend who knows your friend’s boundaries! Again, I am not talking about the characters, since you seem to have gotten really caught up in that. I am in fact talking about the creator Scott Smajor, who people keep calling toxic for teasing his friend but don’t bat an eye when other people tease that same friend. You can headcanon whatever you want, but please keep in mind that, when headcanoning about Scott in canon events in the Life Series, you are headcanoning about a real person who is loved and trusted by his friends and fellow creators more so than about a character. Also, I’m not a flower husbands fan! I’m actually a rare pair fan 🩵 However, I will defend Flower Husbands because Scott is only being criticized for things that Joel, Grian, and fWhip have done 10x worse, and yet Joel, Grian, and fWhip don’t get any of the hate that Scott does for those very things. In fact, Joel, Grian, and fWhip are all commonly shipped with Jimmy, and these are often considered healthy relationships by the fandom, even though they are way more toxic than Flower Husbands! It’s just very strange to me that Scott is called “toxic”, “abusive”, and “manipulative” for all the same things that make Joel, Grian, and fWhip hilarious and cool to see interact with Jimmy. Shipping is incredibly nuanced, yes and one should not be shamed or guilted for what they enjoy (so long as it isn’t immoral/unethical as you said). People are responsible for what content they do interact with and what they filter or avoid. Fandom space should be enthusiastic and happy. It is difficult with a media such as mcyt when there is c! vs cc! that can make things even more complicated and confusing.

I was meaning to inform but can see how my previous ask can cause shame or guilt in others who do ship Scott and Owen and apologize for any shame or guilt caused.

Kudos to you for talking about this, cause I know some of the more only Hermitcraft focused fans don't know how fucking common it is for fans of other ccs to be so fucking weird about cc!Scott. People on Twitter AND Tumblr were calling scott a creep for being roommates with Jack Manifold for a while (ignoring the fact Jack was the one who asked Scott to live with him). It's been a pattern for years of mcyt fans targeting the openly out gay man for "interacting badly" with his straight friends. Like ya'll do know if ccs have an actual problem with someone in their scene, they stop hanging out with them? We've seen that time and time again where it was revealed a cc was a shit person, and you can see the previous trend of less and less people doing content with them or mentioning them. And yet the ccs being brought up as suposedly being harmed by Scott keep hanging out with him in minecraft and in person. People can not enjoy watching certain bits or content, but stop being weird about it when those who are actually involved (the ccs hanging out together) don't have any real problem with what's going on.
