The game has evolved. When the game from the first movie is found again and given to a new owner it updates itself and finds four new players. even w/no Robin Williams I liked this one, it had a bunch of funny oneliners, and thought it could’ve stood on it’s own outside the Jumanji franchise, but it did pay nice homage to the original. A bit predictably the kids all choose game avatars the opposite of real life to help them grow, but they cast the groups of kids and avatars well. Explaining a few of the videogame elements was cool, and unlike the first movie with the game elements coming out, in this one they’re all immersed in the game (much like video games vs boardgames irl). The guys on the motorcycles were a tad Mad Max, Waterworld-y, and anytime i see people go over a waterfall like that I think of Predator’s waterfall scene. always. Interesting to note - just like Alan in the first one Alex had been in the game longer than the new players had been alive.
