I am breaking my silence here - after taking a break from the shit load of uni work - with this quick and messy doodle.

First of all I’d like to thank y’all of the support on my previous piece of the bachelors, I really appreciate it 🥹

Second of all: I KNOW canon x canon in the sdv universe isn’t much of a thing… but these two stole my heart and brain okay? I am so normal about them.

Every time I see any post about Sebastian from Stardew Valley, I absolutely devour the content. I don’t tend to obsess over a lot of fictional characters so I really wish I knew what it said about me psychologically that this man, this angsty, frog-loving, mildly antisocial, video game husband has me giddy. (My IRL partner is nothing like him?) What’s the science behind this!

Demetrius: Good Dude, Bad Dad

I’d like Demetrius a lot more if he were a stand alone character, or even if he had better writing. At first I saw him and Sebastian’s relationship as emo son and step dad doing his best,,,,but the more interactions I had I realized it was more than that. Especially as a kid who had issues with their sibling when their parents favored one child over the other, I know how it causes depression and anxiety and low self esteem to the point where you think no one cares about you and if you disappeared “would it even matter” as Sebastian puts it. Where you just become so depressed you isolate yourself and don’t even try to fix things because after so many years of the same behavior from your parent, why even try changing it because it never has. 

The first thing that hit me was actually a scenario between Robin and Demetrius. Not the tomato one—in which it’s clear that Demetrius being right matters more to him than someone’s feelings—but the one where Robin is proud of her four poster bed. 

In this scenario Demetrius argues that the aesthetic is useless and an inefficient use of materials, which obviously hurts Robin’s feelings because she was showing it off to the family after being so proud of it. If you agree the aesthetics are beautiful and well done, Robin is very happy, so is Maru, and Sebastian vocally supports his mum, meanwhile Demetrius gets angry and storms off.

If this was a stand alone incident and they made up after it, fine, but it seems like Demetrius cares more about being right and logical than his wife’s feelings. Be proud of your wife dude. She’s trying to make you happy. 

And in rebuttals to this incident I see people diagnosing Demetrius as autistic, which is a possibility, but there’s a difference between explaining and excusing behavior. It doesn’t excuse the behavior as an over a decade married man putting down his wife and making her feel bad about something she is proud of. 

The second thing I noticed was the incident with Maru. We all know what happens here. Over protective dad, blah blah blah, but what bothers me is after. After he straight up lies to Maru and says that “I just didn’t want to embarrass you” and something like that. And she believes it. When it clearly isn’t at all what happened. 

Finally, his relationship with Sebastian. It is not abusive, but it’s just,,,so toxic and unhealthy. Between Demetrius never talking about him unless it’s the comment where he says that he’s so relieved Sebastian is out of the house, and that he was worried he was never going to get out, set off the first red flag. The second was how it seems as if Sebastian is uncomfortable in his own house and later state how he did not feel appreciated in his own home. He comes out of his shell and starts becoming more happy and optimistic when he moves I with the farmer—showing what he’s like when he’s in an environment he’s comfortable with and feels safe in. Not one where someone favors another kid over him, never talks to him, only nags him, and seems to want him gone. A man who also makes him mum feels bad. Favoring one child over another is so mentally damaging to the less favored child that that alone made me not like Demetrius. 

Yes Sebastian is a young adult who should be standing up for himself, but when you’ve isolated yourself out of depression and anxiety given to you by your step dad favoring your sister over you? You’re not going to stand up for yourself because a) you know nothing is going to change b) you don’t think it’s worth it and c) you don’t think you’re worth it. It’s awful. 

BUT 

That’s why I wish Demetrius was a stand alone character. I love his passion for science and how he loves bringing his daughter into his passions. When my dad did that we only became closer and it’s honesty such a good parenting move. And I’m a scientist and seeing Demetrius geek out over everything or observe the local environment is so awesome!! 

And it would be so much better for representation too: showing a black (possibly autistic) man with a passion for science who is overly friendly to the farmer and such a kind man to others? YES PLS 

Oh my god and all the funny quests he has you go on too? Killing crabs, giving him random things to dissect, learning about what he likes and dislikes? I’d love his character so much more if we focused on him as a stand alone too. 

But I cannot get past how bad of a family man he is. Because I don’t see any other good interactions between him and Sebastian or him and even Robin besides them dancing at the saloon or standing near it each other at events. I do love Maru and Demetrius father daughter science tho. Adorable.

This the day of the feast of Winter star! (Aka it's Christmas) Wish y'all safe and peaceful holidays! Merry Christmas! It is a super rushed piece as I did not have much time for myself these past days (never really have). My idea was here that probably Haley set up a mistletoe somewhere (she is super into decorating the whole town for the holiday) with her camera to capture the local's cute moment with each other, then the ASS trio happened to be there and Sam took his opportunity there. Abby was being Abby in the bg.

Sebastian x AFAB Reader - 'Ashes' Part Two

M RATED - Angst and Mature Themes

TW - Doctor's surgeries, passing out, acute malnutrition, Demetrius

"FUUUUCK!!!" You scream ferociously as you slash the mosters attacking you from within the carverns of the mines. The echo pierces your ears, but you were too mentally and emotionally drained to care.

It had been six weeks since Sebastian had left for the city, not that you had been counting. You had barely eaten. Each bite made you sick. You were angry. Scared. Melancholy. All that you knew how to do to release your aggression was take it out on the mobs within the mines. It wasn't their fault you were hurting, but damn it felt like your pain was slowly releasing with each sword strike.

As you begin dragging your large burlap sack of loot back to the surface, you feel a sharp pain hit your spine as you fall to the floor. You whince as the sharpness of the shock travels up your spine, up your neck, and to your head. Probably one of those wretched Shadow Shamans shooting its spells at you. You couldn't help but feel your eyes begin to gradually close as the mixture of toxins penetrate your body.

"Farmer!!! Farmer!!! Wake up!!!" A sharp panic in your rescuer's voice brings you back to consciousness. You were too weary to wake up properly, but you were able to make out who it was. Gently lifting you up, Robin and Demetrius run to their large pick-up truck and make haste to Dr Harvey. He was your only hope of recovering from the toxins of the Shadow Shaman, after all.

Demetrius carries you in, lying you on Harvey's hospital bed.

"Oh my Yoba...! What happened to her?!" Harvey, clearly worried, begins checking your vitals before inserting an IV full of fluids.

"We found her alone in the mines..." Robin whimpers, a small trail of worried tears trickle down her cheeks.

Demetrius hugs her tightly. "It's alright, my love. Harvey will get her right as rain. We believe she's inflicted with Shadow Shaman poison, Doctor."

The life within Harvey's face drains. "You know this could be fatal if we don't treat this quickly, right? Demetrius. I need your help."

"Anything, Doc." Demetrius springs up ready for action, clearly worried about you.

Harvey points over to the lab in his surgery. "Head in there quickly! Everything is in there for an antidote! I trust you know what you need since you live so close to the mines! Ill run her bloods and see what damage has been done! Be back here in the next ten minutes!" Harvey takes three samples of blood, before running into the lab himself, followed by Demetrius.

Robin sits at your bedside, gently rubbing your hand. "It's going to be okay, love. I'm here..." She begins to gently wipe your face with a warm wash cloth to remove any dirt.

Demetrius runs back in with the antidote and begins injecting it into the IV. "This'll do it." He looks at Robin, reassuringly.

Robin gives him a small nod. "Thank you, darling...I wonder how Harvey is getting on..."

Harvey walks back into the room with extreme apprehension, face drained. "She's not out of the woods yet...She's iron deficient for a start..."

"Well thats okay, Harvey! That can be fixed with some spinach and other veggies." Robin scratches the back of her head, clearly worried.

"I mean...yeah...but shes also pregnant." Harvey walks over, showing Demetrius the test results.

His eyes widen as he scans through the black and white of the paper before him. "He's right, Robin..."

"Sh-She can't be..." Robin's heart drops.

Demetrius looks smugly at his wife. "Haha. I always knew that boy of yours was trouble, Robin. He should have moved out sooner and this wouldn't have happened."

"Demetrius. He is your step-son! Why would you say such a thing?! We don't even know if he is the dad!" Robin, clearly intensely enraged by his comment, squares up to her husband.

Demetrius continues to push his luck. "Well, I knew he would turn out like your shitty ex-husband. Gets a girl pregnant and up and leaves just like that. Runs in the blood it seems."

Seeing red, Robin cant help but scream. "DONT YOU FUCKING DARE SPOUT SUCH CRAP ABOUT MY SON."

Harvey, clearly more worried about his patient than family feuds, spoke up. "Look. I think we need to worry about the farmer right now. Not who the father of the child is. If you would like to continue then please leave."

Robin, in disbelief with what her husband had said, swiftly left the surgery. Demetrius running out after her.
