Do you have any hidden gem fics or lesser known authors you would recommend for Lukanette?

I'm not going to lie, it's way easier to call to mind friends' fics so the same names tend to pop up when I'm trying to think of recommendations, so this is a great question. I don't really want to claim these are 'hidden gems' or 'lesser known authors' just because they're not in the circle of authors I hear from and talk to frequently, so let's put it this way: here's some works I love that haven't come up in the recs I've been asked for recently.

(full disclosure some of them are still written by friends 😂 but may be older or don't get as much love as I think they deserve)

This wasn't how they were meant to fight Hawkmoth. Chat Noir wasn't supposed to chase down every single butterfly. He wasn't supposed to take them for himself, or become Chat Blanc every other night. He wasn't supposed to show up on Marinette's doorstep and cage her in her room. He wasn't meant to strangle all rational thought by his presence alone. And Marinette definitely wasn't supposed to fall in love with an akumatized version of her partner-in-arms.

This does surprise me, actually! I don't usually see myself as an angst writer. Though yes, pretty much all of my fics are tagged with at least one of these, so it makes sense it would be my top tag.

Mmm, not that I can think of? I've definitely gotten pickier lmao.

33. If you write chaptered fics, what’s your ideal chapter length to write? Is it different from your ideal chapter length to read?

I try to keep my chapter lengths at like 2k-6k max, but I'm not too picky. I've had chapters that are 600 words, I've had chapters that are 8k. Mostly I just go with the flow of where my chapter takes me.

Zine Contribution: Writer

Why do you love Marichat? They have a fun dynamic because they aren't trying too hard to impress each other. Chat Noir will swagger from time to time and Marinette will preen for show, but they also fall into a comfortable middle ground that is really fun to play with.

If you could wield any miraculous, which one would you use and why? From the powers we've seen so far, I might have to go with the Mouse/Rat. With a young special needs son, a crafting business, and a house that never seems to stay clean, I could use a few more copies of me, haha.

“I can’t believe it’s her!” Rena Rouge was walking outraged around the top of the dome of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica.

“Why are we here?” Carapace asked, accompanying her in her walking, but still with no clue what had made her so upset.

“You can go, if you want to!” she narrowed her eyes ominously.

“I don’t want to. And I won’t leave you, Al.” he said calmly, and that made her stop walking.

She looked at her boyfriend and felt that he was her support, all she needed. Ever. Even now, even when he didn’t know what was the problem, he managed to calm her down. She sat down on the edge, letting her legs hang, and she stared at an evening afterglow over Parisian rooftops.

“I came here, because it’s not their place.” she whispered.

“Who’s ‘they’?” Carapace sat down next to her and glanced at her sideways.

“Ladybug and Cat Noir. I needed a place to calm down. The Eiffel Tower is their place. They always meet there. And the Notre Dame cathedral is ruined now… Still, it’s another their place. I needed to have our place.”

“It really had to be a church?”

“Churches are huge and usually people don’t visit their rooftops.” Rena explained.

“OK, I get it. So, will you tell me why we’re here?”

“I’ve discovered Ladybug’s identity.” she sighed.

“What?!” he exclaimed in shock.

“Yes… By accident, not intentionally! But I saw her transformation… I can’t believe she was lying to me all the time! She’s my best friend! She shouldn’t keep secrets from me!”

“Wait! Are you talking about… Marinette?”

“Of course I am!” Rena snorted.

Carapace became silent. That was shocking news, so he needed time to process it. Yet, it took him only a moment. Actually, everything fitted perfectly.

“I’m double thankful then…” he admitted finally.

“Why?” Rena glanced at him intrigued.

“Remember when she trapped us in a cage?”

“Of course, I do remember!” Rena replied with reproach. How could he think she forgot about that day?!

“This is the first thing I’m thankful for. And the second is when she chose me to help her to rescue you. Now I understand better why it was me.”

“It was you because you’re perfect for being a superhero!”

“Yeah…” Carapace only smiled. “Sure…”

“I’m serious!”

“I think she thought that I’d have an additional motivation to rescue the love of my life.”

“Oh, so I am the love of your life now?”

“You’ve always been.”

“If I remember correctly…” Rena teased, but Carapace stopped her by putting his finger on her lips.

“Shut up, Al…” he groaned.

“Make me!” she laughed.

“Deal…” he whispered and kissed her.
