Future thinking
One of the hurdles faced with human/mechanical hybridization is the long term viability of any port installed on the human body. There are multiple medical applications currently where permanent to semi permanent ports are implanted, acting as a fixed gateway between the systems. The problem is keeping this hole happy— stop the body from pushing it out while not getting infected.
It’s the seawater donut issue. Humans are essentially donut shaped bags of seawater, carrying around our private oceans of nutrients and hormones (the donut hole is your digestive system passing through the middle). All complex life on earth is an expansion on this basic concept—keep good stuff in, keep bad stuff out, and a tube where you control stuff coming in and out.
How this plays out in humans is that skin acts as the main barrier (outside the donut), the digestive tract is outside the body, and your intestines pull all the nutrients they need and everything else passes through. This is why punctures to the intestines are so dangerous— it crosses the internal/external body barrier and allows your gut bacteria into your body cavity. Gut flora is incredibly important for our body to function, but it is technically outside the body, and is dangerous once inside.
So this is a long preamble to say that grafting monitors to your arm and passing wires through the skin are not without potential complications, because it goes against our body’s safety protocols.

Galvanic Corrosion
Metals have distinct electric potentials. When two different metals are in contact under the right conditions (presence of an electrolyte), the difference between these electric potentials leads to a flow of charge. Ultimately, the more reactive metals dissolves under attack by the less reactive metal in what is known as galvanic corrosion. This form of corrosion is fairly common when parts are joined with bolts, screws, etc., as dissimilar metals can be involved. The presence of seawater is also the mostly likely environment to lead to this form of corrosion to a strong degree, though it occurs frequently in plumbing applications as well. Because galvanic corrosion mostly commonly occurs where parts are joined, excessive corrosion can lead to failure and separation of the components of an assembly.

Hagfish slime is an ultra dilute, elastic and cohesive hydrogel that deploys within milliseconds in cold seawater from a glandularly secreted exudate. The slime is made of long keratin-like fibers and mucin-like glycoproteins that span a network which entraps water and acts as a defense mechanism against predators. Unlike other hydrogels, the slime only confines water physically and is very susceptible to mechanical stress, which makes it unsuitable for many processing operations and potential applications. Despite its huge potential, little work has been done to improve and functionalize the properties of this hydrogel. To address this shortcoming, hagfish exudate was mixed with a soy protein isolate suspension (4% w/v) and with a soy emulsion (commercial soy milk) to form a more stable structure and combine the functionalities of a suspension and emulsion with those of the hydrogel. Hagfish exudate interacted strongly with the soy systems, showing a markedly increased viscoelasticity and water retention. Hagfish mucin was found to induce a depletion and bridging mechanism, which caused the emulsion and suspension to flocculate, making "soy slime", a cohesive and cold-set emulsion- and particle gel. The flocculation network increases viscoelasticity and substantially contributes to liquid retention by entrapping liquid in the additional confinements between aggregated particles and protein fibers. Because the mucin-induced flocculation resembles the salt- or acid-induced flocculation in tofu curd production, the soy slime was cooked for comparison. The cooked soy slime was similar to conventional cooked tofu, but possessed a long-range cohesiveness from the fibers. The fibrous, cold-set, and curd-like structure of the soy slime represents a novel way for a cold coagulation and fiber incorporation into a suspension or emulsion. This mechanism could be used to efficiently gel functionalized emulsions or produce novel tofu-like structured food products.

Some Adjustments have been made to the Bodie Sprite by my friend Froggy and I’ll take this time to discuss Bodie’s power set and Fighting Style more indepth (This is him at a level of Mid Orbit slight lower or equivalent to Lorelai in stat total)
Bodie’s Epithet: Tropical gives him a slew of abilities that he’s been able to develop and grow over the years, with three primary abilities and a few other key ones
Wind Manipulation- Bodie’s go to ability with everything from strike enhancements by adding a sharp gale current to his punches all the way to flying. Bodie will occasionally mix in wind based projectiles, as a way to pin someone in place or just as a big gust to hit someone with concussive force, however its usefulness in making his strikes land that much harder is the main reason he uses this as often as he does. Some special named moves Bodie uses under this ability are Zephyr Enziguri, A wind enhanced kick to the head of the poor sap, and Rolling Thunder, Punching the air to send out giant flying gusts of wind at an opponent.
Water Manipulation- “Screw You, Strong Water” Definitely the ability Bodie has put the most creative stock into, Bodie generates mass amounts of seawater to be used in a variety of different ways. Some common applications are as a defensive barrier, large violent streams and crashing projectiles, and as a battlefield adjustment with enough water that it becomes a detriment to the enemy. If the Wind is what Bodie uses in all his strikes, Water is what he uses in the in between, applying pressure, keeping up defense, getting shots in at a range, or sending out one final big jet stream of saltwater to finish off the bad guy, whatever his hands, feet, or mouth can do while available. Some notable attacks here include Whitewater Jetstream, a large powerful blast of water from his mouth Scuttle Shield Ball, where Bodie surrounds himself in a bubble of water to defend himself from incoming attacks, and Final Tsunami, where Bodie throws as much water as he can make in one direction in a last ditch effort.
Sand Manipulation- The most low key of Bodie’s main manipulations, Bodie uses his sand for most slashing attacks but more as a tool to put the opponent on the back foot, changing up terrain or making it hard to see. Some notable uses are the classic Pocket Sand right in the eyes and the Giant Sand Viper Bodie produces as a defensive tool.
Some of Bodie’s secondary abilities
Tropical Plant Manipulation- A swarm of palm trees and other plants that keep the enemy on the back-foot and give terrain advantage to the highly mobile Bodie
Heat Generation-Bodie’s ability naturally causes him to exude more Bodie heat than the average person, so living in Taiga Country doesn’t really bother him regardless of what he’s wearing
Buff Drinks- Bodie can produce some fruity beverages to help in a pinch, like a Piña Colada that can buff his damage
The Other Two Major Abilities are Bodie’s ultimate Moves
Hurricane Bodie- Simply Bodie creates a miniature cyclone at Hurricane force wind speed to manipulate and use against his opponent in various ways, including just throwing the whole thing at the enemy.
Sweeping Horizon: Dawn Bound Lū’au- Bodie does a hand-sign and surrounds himself and his target with a forest of Tropical Plants, anyone fully enveloped being transported to a Tropical Beach set up for a celebration, in this pocket world Bodie’s abilities are enhanced and the environment is naturally saturated with the things he manipulates, cutting the stamina cost heavily. The area also gives Bodie access to special abilities only accessible within the Sweeping Horizon, such as manipulation of various beach like structures and the summoning of mystic sea creatures to assist him in battle.
Bodie’s fighting heavily relies on his creative uses for his abilities as well as comboing with his natural hand to hand fighting abilities he trained under his grandfather for, not relying on either exclusively(compare to a Sylvie or a Howie for both sides of the extreme) and putting his opponent off-balance for the opening.

Like a hidden enemy, pitting corrosion attacks metal surfaces, making it difficult to detect and control. This type of corrosion, primarily caused by prolonged contact with seawater in nature, is especially problematic for naval vessels. In a recent paper published in Nature Communications, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) scientists delved into the mysterious world of pitting corrosion in additively manufactured (3D-printed) stainless steel 316L in seawater. Stainless steel 316L is a popular choice for marine applications due to its excellent combination of mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. This holds even more true after 3D printing, but even this resilient material isn't immune to the scourge of pitting corrosion.
