So this was pretty much just a vehicle for JLo to be put in one fish out of water situation after the other. Not only is that unoriginal, it’s boring! It wouldn’t have been so bad if the scenes were funny, but unfortunately the laughs are few and far between. We do get glimpses of legitimate comedy, that mandarin dinner scene especially, but then the film skips over to the next scene. Due to the predictable storyline it seems the filmmakers are just checking box after box of things that need to happen and once the resolution happens it feels unearned. JLo and Vanessa Hudgens are the shining points and deserve to be working with better material than this. ⭐️ ½

Relationships are powerful--they can either be remarkably inspiring or overly detrimental. However, most relationships evolve and change to shape our lives and give us direction.

Second Act's main character Maya is presented as an insecure woman lacking appreciation from her employer, whilst she juggles career and personal life. With encouragement from her friends and colleagues, she takes matters into her own hands. Unwillingly at first, due to a minor deception, until she finds herself riding the wave and thriving in a world she would never have dreamt herself. She blooms and transforms into a fierce and confident woman filled with determination. This comes with sacrifices and losses which leads to important truths coming out.

Second Act is a light-hearted film we all may have seen before, but it has something distinct and new to offer worth watching. A strong narrative with complex issues and conflict, making it more realistic and empathetic. Hence a very effective and engaging story. Also, just in time for the holiday season, a deep and sincere movie to snuggle into and enjoy with friends and family.

I remember seeing the trailer and I think i was going to see it at the cinemas for some reason never did..well now I get to watch it. Its interesting to watch this when your unemployed. Like, I get that I'm much younger than JLO but the way upper management treated her at the beginning is similar to how many are treated, especially those unemployed because our "experience" means nothing, we're expected to have all this paperwork attached even order to even get the bare minimum for some roles. Which is quite frustrating and makes you feel like you'll never achieve anything outside of your comfort zone. When Zoe reveals she's adopted, it started to feel cliched real quick. I'm not sure if it's because I've watched one too many adoptive movies or one too many where woman regret giving up their baby and end up watching from the background instead. By the end of this movie, I instantly went "I've seen this movie" but after doing a search through my watch list, I couldn't find that I had.
