A/N: This is kinda beauty and the beast inspired although really dark. But im currently working on it. Snow is going to be an absolute menace and simp for the reader.

Summary: Coriolanus isn’t too fond that the young nun, who once took care of him as a child during the dark days, has her attention taken away by others. An unhealthy obsession for you to belong to him and no one else plagues him and with the “flower lungs” a.k.a. Hanahaki disease shortening his lifespan and slowly deteriorating his mind, kidnapping you in what could possibly be his final days doesn’t sound like such a bad idea.

Coriolanus pinches the bloodied flower petal between his thumb and index finger, studying it profoundly. What an enigma the human body is. This single rose petal had been produced right from his own body. From his own bloodied mouth. At his fingertips rests his fate. Coriolanus knew it well. After all, it was the same curse that ate away at his grandfather then years later his father.

How could he have been so foolish to have let his guard down? To think for a second that he wouldn’t fall victim to the same disease that coursed through the veins of the men in the Snow family?

He could feel his rage burning so deeply within the pits of his stomach, he’s almost convinced he’ll spontaneously combust. Instead, he crushes the rose petal in a closed fist, eyes narrowing in you and Sejanus’s direction.

You don’t seem to understand the pain you’re putting him through. Or maybe…maybe it isn’t that you don’t understand but rather you don’t care! Despite all his best efforts to show you how much he cares, you turn your back on him! For village scum!

His condition is your doing! The underlining deformity will chip away at the perfect image he’d created for himself all because you couldn’t just stay loyal to him and only him. Now instead of focusing his time with Lucy Gray, Coriolanus’s physiological, biological—even mental—state is dependent on your compliance to remain his property. Even if it meant locking you away from the world, you will learn to accept that fact.

Hmm. Locking you away from the world? Actually… that thought sounds quite enticing. And you’d seldom reject any form of punishment if it is in your best interest to pay for your sins like a good little lamb should.

Building on the last posting it would bother Snow to see formal academy!reader fall for Sejanus and the two get into a relationship. Especially if this is after Snow tries(key word tries) to implement Tigris' suggestions about him being nicer to you. Like in Coriolanus' werid and convulsed mind and lack of morals. He thinks because he puts forth the effort to "change" then reader should be willing to submit or accept his advances. Not him realizing that just because you make forth the effort to change doesn't mean that person is obligated to accept you or your requests. Not to mention he still got that capital pride that makes him think that Reader should be more than happy to enter into a relationship with him. He's a Snow after all... even though they're broke and the only currency he has is the family name and his charisma. So it isn't money that's makes you better than the districts but the name/prestige that comes with the money. Not to mention the value of the name itself and not just monetary.

Like just because the Pliths are rich most of the Capitol including Coriolanus still sees them as district. I think because of this mindset it challenges/bothers Snow when reader isn't interested in him beyond the surface. And like you said before she sees something in him and stays away. It's like Coriolanus doesn't understand that there's more to a person than status or wealth. Or that genuine relationships and/or emotion can occur without any underlying agendas

Yeah, after some thinking, Coriolanus would decide to take Tigris' advice and be nicer to you. He only approaches you when you don't seem busy, he'll offer to hold your books or bag to class, he asks about how you are, etc, but you feel like you've already learned what he's all about so this gesture, while somewhat genuine, only comes across as fake, like he's trying to get something (which he is).

And when he learns you and Sej had gone on a date and then sees the two of you holding hands, he's literally foaming at the mouth over it.

Yes, I agree, he's like thinking about how he tried to change his approach and you still ignored all of his advances and to him, that's just not fair. He thinks he deserves more than that. Coriolanus would resort back to his more hateful way of thinking so fast because he's impatient and you just won't let up. He can't crack you and it drives him completely insane.

And yes! He also tells himself that you'd be unhappy with Sejanus, that only if you saw he was trying to be nicer and better, you'd realize he's the right one for you to marry. Then he'd snap out of these thoughts by reminding himself that you're district. It's like a constant battle in his head; Coryo is thinking, 'I'm so in love with her,' then 'she's district, I hate her being here.'

Plus he'd be trying to understand why you ignore him. Part of him is aware of your intelligence, but part of him think so poorly of you, he's like she can't be smart enough to see through me. But you do.

And I agree, I've mentioned this before, but he would always be thinking you're just interested in Sejanus cause of his money and family and for that sole reason, he doesn't understand why you wouldn't be interested in him. Despite his lack of money, the Snow name is still powerful and isn't that enough to lure you in his direction? And like you said, he just can't comprehend that there could be just genuine feelings and desire in the capitol beyond wealth and status.

Reading the new hunger games book up until the halfway mark is an intresting thought experiment of what makes a good person. From Snows POV we know everything he does is for his own gain. Every action, conversation and relationship he makes is solely for his own gain and to watch out for himself. He actively does not like most people and almost exclusively interacts with the world via manipulation.

BUT snows actual impact of the world is positive (as positive as it can be in a dystopia). He saves Sejanus’ life, he quickly gives comfort and friendship to those around him, he spends time with the Pliths, he feeds and advocates for the welfare of the tributes, he does the work for his classmates and covers for them, etc. He genuinely brings comfort and well being to those around him!

We know that ever action is calculated and selfish, just him manipulating others for gain and self preservation. He does not like anyone and would throw them under the bus for anything. But (at least until the halfway point of the book) his actions result in good in the world.

So if you believe that actions matter, not intent, then Snow is a very good person. He acts kindly and comforts those around him, despite how insincere it is.

If you believe in intent over actions, Snow is a bad person. BUT you would also make the case that therefore, Sejanus is a bad person. His actions result in Snows life being put in danger in the arena, negatively affecting his classmates, and causing his family distress. Besides his actions towards Marcus, Sejanus only causes pain, danger and discourse.

I think most people reading the book would say that Snow is a bad person and Sejanus is a good person. However, I think it’s a popular option that actions matter more than intent, especially if they are to help others. The book is a really good example of how your intuition of what ‘goodness’ is in a person can be challenged

ballad of songbirds and snakes spoilers

i dont think any of the hunger games movies are bad in general (never saw the last 2 movies tho) because i try to view them as their own thing.

i know some minor things got lost bc you cant hear katniss's thoughts in the movies: but that works just fine because you don't Fully need them so to speak. Katniss is a clear character (if that makes sense)

but uh. yeah without snow's inner dialogue a ton of things get lost in the movie and his character is completely different imo.

and honestly, if someone only saw the movie it's pretty easy to see why they would like snow/lucy grey as a couple. because yes, on the surface he does have feelings for her and you can tell she feels the same.

but an entire layer of how fucked up it is gets lost without his inner dialogue because you don't hear in the movies how incredibly possessive he is of Lucy Grey. He calls her "his property" multiple times throughout the book, even gets mad at the idea that she had to sell herself to get by (when she sings how she "lived by her charms, spread kisses like honey").

Tigress even tells him "people have to do what they can to survive right now. I'm not proud of some of the things i've had to do"

but he can't even grasp that. He just hates the idea of Lucy Grey not being his. He even gets upset when she dedicates the song to her ex back home. The very thought that she even had a life before him, complex feelings, anything: he doesn't care.

and even his relationship with Sejanus is lost. You dont really hear how much he hates him. He plays him like a fiddle and constantly tries to "get ahead" of him and use the Plith name to his advantage (hoping Sejanus' dad will give him a reward for saving him from the arena).

Even getting mad that he showed up to feed the tributes. but in the movies you wouldn't have even guessed. Snow just comes across has a semi decent friend.

I just think this movie would have been better if there was like. an american psycho like voice over for Snow. Just so much of his character gets lost in the movie.

Lmfao, I can't belive that snow even dares crying about Sejanus death when he's the one responsible for it. Like how dare he mourn him and feels sorry??? That's your fault,  he could just stop talking with him, told him that he doesn't support him. Instead he wanted to use him for his money and use his family to further his career, I literally hate him. To think that perhaps Ma' viewed him as her son, an ally to her death son, his best and only friend in Capitol. It's devastating to think that Plith raised the murder of their own son, he deserve to die thousand time...

Woooooow so just finished the ballad of songbirds and snakes and daaaaaamn does this put the hunger games in a whole new light.

Can you imagine, Snow sitting there watch Peeta and Katniss, thinking Katniss is the one to watch out for. Thinking ‘oh she’s the one to watch out for’, because she’s just like Lucy Gray isn’t she? Probably right down to the way she looks.

He’s probably writes off Peeta, slightly unnerved about the way he seems to remind him a bit of Sejanus, but he’s no threat. Sejanus’ sense of justice was his ultimate downfall after all.

It’s not until it’s interview night, that he starts to get this prickling sensation that somethings wrong. And he’s watching Peeta do his little “do I smell like roses” bit getting increasingly more paranoid, because something about this is wrong. And he can’t tell why. It’s not until Peeta drops the “because I came here with her” that he finally understand why.

Peeta might look like Sejanus, a good, kind and just boy.

But he knows how to play people like Snow.

And he see’s it so clearly. Lucy Gray, and the version of himself he might have been had he just made one different decision-

And it haunts him

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes - Spoiler Free Thoughts!

You on the fence about reading a Hunger Games prequel?  Why couldn’t Suzanne Collins leave well enough alone?  Is this just a cash grab?  

Oh fellow tributes!  Fear not - Suzanne Collins has weaved a story that is not only brilliant, heart-breaking, infuriating, and shocking but also infuses even more weight and layers to her original trilogy that will leave you floored.  Understanding the origins of some of the key elements of the trilogy only adds to the stories’ poignancy.

Please read below for some of my thoughts on the characters.  I HATE spoilers so I will not be discussing key plot points but if you want to stay pure - just order this book and come back when you are done!

I am no great writer so I apologize in advance - I just wanted to share my love of the book.

Here’s a character run-down:

Coriolanus Snow:

This is not a redemption story.  What you get is a Coriolanus Snow that is a multi-dimensional character on the precipice of sealing his fate.  Here is a character that feels remorse, who loves, feels guilt and is conflicted by his actions, but you also see he is a selfish and self-serving young man.  Will his quest for self-preservation help lead those he loves to escape their own struggles or will his actions sink them all?  You see why Snow ends up so entranced and infuriated by Katniss Everdeen because now you understand the choices he made to became this tyrannical dictator and how the people in his life shaped who he became.

Lucy Gray Baird:

The original girl on fire.  What a spitfire!  Full of moxie and guts.  She feels the weight of her mortality and mourns for those left behind but she doesn’t give up. She charms and cajoles all the while singing her songs of sorrow and joy and love.  (OH MY GOD - THE SONGS!)  Lucy comes alive off the page and you fall in love with her too.  I picture her as a young Reba McEntire (she’s a country singer from the 80′s) - a down-to-earth-goddess who shoots straight but knows her fate rests on luck and the kindness of strangers.

Sejanus Plith:

Sejanus is probably my favorite character - the “rebel” that won’t go away quietly, the mentor full of compassion and empathy, the young man that wants to help but is trapped between two worlds.  You get angry at his impetuousness but admire his courage and his need to do what’s right.

Tigris Snow (I’m assuming her name is Snow):

Coriolanus’s cousin!  A young women dealt a harsh hand.  She tries valiantly to keep her family together and fed and safe.  And her utmost goal is to help her young orphaned cousin who she’s nurtured from childhood.  (Sound familiar no?)  How did this Tigris end up the Tigris in Mockingjay?!

I haven’t even touched on the baddies - Dr. Gaul - Nazi-level evil - and Dean Highbottom - Haymitch 1.0 without anyone to help.

I won’t say more about additional characters since it may spoil you.

If you are a Hunger Games fan - this book will not disappoint.

Gago talaga na gusto lang siya turuan ng lesson. Plus, what's this thing about control.

I'm convinced that unless you came from the Capitol then all your hard work is disregarded. Like if you don't got status then your achievements means nothing compared to the so-called "elite". It's like you is grass and they are the mountain goats on top of the grass. You 'll never get to experience the fullness of their bloodborne/blood money status. Even if you're someone like the Pliths, new money. But they always been seen as grass by the majority of the Capitol. They're too big for lake but still small for the ocean. If that makes sense

Oh totally, it makes sense!

Even if you could make somewhat of a name for yourself in the capitol, being from the districts is basically burned into your skin. And despite the Plinths’ money and status, they still have district in their blood you know, so that’s always gonna follow them, even if Sejanus or you were to achieve something so spectacular.

I think that’s also why Coryo is so hellbent confused on why you won’t be with him because with his own status and name, you’d be able to rise up more.
