This senior sweetie is Cricket. According to Yolo County Animal Services, Cricket can't get enough love! She’s eager and enthusiastic for attention and pets! Cricket is happy and loves everyone. She loves being held and you can hold her close and she will just purr and relax in your embrace. Cricket came to the shelter as a stray, with her beautiful, long fur tangled in mats. Cricket may be hyperthyroid based on her appetite (we will do bloodwork), and a felt bilateral thyroid slip. She’s also very petite at 5.3 lbs. Cricket also needs a dental cleaning.

As Yolo County Animal Services stated: “Cricket is way too sweet to have our shelter be the last home she knows!”

So the rest is history.

Senior kitty rescue! This sweet old girl was found as a very matted stray, and brought to Hamilton Animal Services. Shortly after her arrival, shelter staff shaved off as many of the larger mats they were able to. Within the twigs, burrs, and debris found in the mats, there was a Cheerio. Definitely one of the strangest things shelter staff had seen come off of a matted cat! Staff named kitty Cheerio, and we thought that was a very appropriate name. :) Cheerio is extremely thin, and blood work done at the shelter showed she is hyperthyroid. We were glad to get sweet Cheerio out of the shelter and into a loving foster home. She is happy to be out of a cage, and even happier to have a warm lap to curl up in. Cheerio will have a vet visit soon to get a plan in place to help her feel better. This handsome man is TJ. He's 17+ years-old and a very sweet senior. TJ was surrendered at a local shelter by a woman who claimed he was a stray. Naturally, the shelter scanned for a microchip and found that he had one. (I think you know where this story is going). Turns out, TJ was registered to the woman who brought him in.

Busted!

Anyway, no way the shelter is going to make the woman take the cat back. And a shelter is no place for a senior cat, so we took TJ to give him a nice, comfy space with lots of room, windows, and plush beds… and people who really want him!
