A heartstring-tugging piece by the talented @rou-tan-tan for my latest chapter of Guide and Guard! <3 It’s beautiful and it hurts and I can’t stop admiring it!

There on the bed is Keith. He’s sitting on a simple cot, arms full of his guardian spirit, hiding his face in the creature’s rich auburn fur. The sight of him takes Shiro’s breath away.

“Keith.”

The boy looks up, teary-eyed, a huge smile across his face. Once he takes in the sight of the two of them, however, his smile falls.

“Lance, Shiro! What are- I thought I blocked you! It isn’t safe!”

Shiro charges forward, Lance right on his heels, sweeping Keith up into his arms. Keith gasps, and Shiro pulls back, inspecting Keith. “Did Zarkon get you? Are you hurt?” He eyes the bandages on Keith’s body, and the nasty bruise across his neck. Lance doesn’t wait, and grabs Keith from behind, toppling all three of them to the ground.

Laughing and shaking his head, Keith tightens his arms around his Guide while his Sentinel buries his face in the back of his shirt, tears freely running down his face. Keith sniffles, trying to keep his own at bay.

Hi :) Sorry to bother you - but you reblogged a post about The Sentintel series and I am incredibly curious about this show due to all the fanfics xD Would you recommend it? And where/how do you watch it? I can't find the series anywhere safe to stream (or the DVDs for that matter in an affordable range). Have a nice day :)

Hi! The answer would probably be yes, but with a very, very big BUT at the end. See, this show is old — very old — and there are a lot of parts that haven't aged well. It's sexist, racist, culturally appropriates (or just generally misrepresents cultures, especially the indigenous people of Peru) etc.

That said, it has an interesting premise and does fun things with it, with a mostly light-hearted tone and some actually successful humour. And it's pretty damn gay. But it's also pretty repetitive, kinda dumb (in that way a lot of action shows/movies were back in the 90's), and, as mentioned, very problematic in many aspects.

As for the connection to Sentinel and Guide AUs, it's... well, it's THERE, but you can tell that most people who write those AUs have never seen the show. Which is totally fine! It just means that the concept has taken on a life of its own and you'll find the foundation for it in the show, but a lot has been removed, added, or changed. Like, the term "guide" isn't even really a thing in the show. It's just a throwaway line used once or twice. Which says quite a lot about how far the concept has evolved from the original xD

So, basically, you don't HAVE to have seen the show to understand the Sentinel and Guide AU concept, since at least half of it is made up by the countless fandoms it has been filtered through anyway.

That said, do I regret watching it? No, I don't. Especially since I walked into it expecting some cringe and made sure to keep my expectations low where the sexism, racism etc. is concerned. It's not a bad show by any means — I thoroughly enjoyed myself as I watched it — but... just be cautious.

As for where I watched it, I honestly can't remember because I did so YEARS ago, on some dingy site I no longer have the address to. I have no idea where you might find it now. Sorry I can't be of any help there.

Still, I hope this answer has been at least somewhat helpful :)

About the last ask, can you elaborate on Sentinel playing matchmaker to OP?

Early on, Sentintel was OP’s mentor and sort of saw him as a son figure! He wanted OP to be an extension of what the perfect law enforcer should be and didn’t want him hanging around lower class riff raff like that damn coal mutt Megatron that would put silly ideas in his head, so he’d go around seeking potential ladies from ��good stock’ so OP could settle down and keep busy with a family, perhaps even establish a new legacy one (ie. when a family/clan specializes in one line of work)

You know how that’s that weird thing older folks sometimes say that when you get older and have a family you automatically become more conservative? He was sort of banking on that too.

Unfortunately OP simply isn’t interested in anything but a friendship with these candidates (Sentinel tries to hide his exact intentions) and many to actually end up becoming good friends with him in the end.

The usual smiling banter Matthias found himself doing with his betrothed was gone as he stood in front of the door like a sentintel as they were locked inside. His height was a supreme aid to this at a little over six feet. The beautiful princess in front of him had eyes clouded over with flint and a bit of rage buried deep into her belly. Sure, the blonde was used to her snark that never seemed to completely follow the current of malice anyone else would be scorched from. Matthias had learned the constellation of maps in the woman who had his heart in a vice grip. As a diplomat, the nuances were not always noticable beyond the crinkle of her eyes or the slow, slight turn up of her lips. Never had he wanted to see her so upset on his account, but who was he to deny the kings begging for his child. Besides if he had gone out to the battle like he had planned, the thoughts of his powerful woman in danger would be like a palpable ghost on his shoulder. It was conflicting in his very soul. His bright pools of blue eyes were holding the indecision, pain, and worry torturing him. She was a force to be reckoned with and he was very very aware that she could take anyone out there. But as the heir, her protection would affect a lot more than those who knew her intamitely should she die in the siege. The king had made him promise to keep her safe above all else on the very breathe in his lungs that was a vow that he could not deny in any lifetimes. Her strength was in her wit as well as her sword. How could he let her out into a world with assasians lurking at any corner just to find her? The now growing halo of hair on his head was worried from the journey of his hands down and around them. “My love, I promised and I will not break my word. I do not doubt your prowess and strength though it is nothing that will affect my acts for your safety. No matter what you see fit to punish me with.”

Best caretaker when one is sick: the first sign of a sniffle and Sentinel is Gone, there’s just a cartoony Sentinel-shaped dust cloud left where he was standing. He may have slowly gotten used to dealing with a healthy organic but they're just So Fuckin Gross when they're sick

Does the housework: Between the military training and the germophobia I feel like he’s kind of a neat freak. 

Designated driver: Probably should be me since I don’t drink but he’s Literally a car so

Has good penmanship: lbr it’s not great but mine is absolutely horrendous

Sensitive to subtle changes in their partner: this is less “Sentinel notices when I act weird” and more “Sentintel does not DO subtle changes.” He wears his heart on his sleeve and is a very expressive dude. 

Which one dies protecting the other: The real answer is either Sentinel dies trying to protect me or I die of old age while he’s got a zillion more years left but neither scenario is fun to daydream about so I don’t ㄟ(ツ)ㄏ

Found my first erased moon today. Sentintels were Threatening but didn't stop from filling my inventory with gravitino balls.

Hope knew very well that her parents would be less than pleased that she had been missing from the compound for two weeks now. She had thought about leaving a note, but that would certainly have them stopping her for the reason that she had had in mind to leave. Hopefully, the absence of her bracelet being left behind would have comforted the overprotective sentintels she called family. Kol had an interesting set of grimiores that she had found in his room on the compound. it helped her remain outside of the path of tracking spells. It had been quite boring to be locked in that place for so long especially with most of her family being incapable of having the time to play with her. Klaus had hung the moon in the sky for her since he had waltzed back into there life keeping him safe. As much as they tried to hide it from her, Hope was well aware that her father had quite the reputation. The auburn haired seven year old had thought the town would be painted red. It was part of why she had shuddered at the cold New Orleans air pressing butterfly kisses to her skin. It was a surprise no one had made a move to hurt her upon walking alone in the big easy as the Mikealson heir. Not that she wasn’t extremely capable of protecting herself against most threats. There had been no family members vamping her into her arms as she had expected. The journey to the compound had been a long time to think. What supernatural force had been unleashed or changed in the stead of her missing? The sound of furniture splitting had put a chill in her spine though she was aware any vampires around would no doubt hear the slight tap of her hands much less her hybrid parents picking up her very smell. The whiz of the air that came from a supernatural speed filled her senses before her wild ocean blue eyed father came into view. A slight wince left the tribrid’s lips. “Daddy-” She started looking at him with big eyes unsure if she should attempt a hug. The answers would come,but she had missed him and wanted to help ease the worry and pain a light on his features. This was the person that she had wanted more than anything to see in the last weeks as well as feel the warm protection of his arms. “I’m home. i’m okay. I needed to do something to keep us safe.”

Klaus was pacing rapidly in the main open room of their compound in the French Quarter. It was all he could do to not punch a hole through a wall in the compound. The compound he had been spelled to stay in by Freya so he could not do anything to the tender alliances of the factions of New Orleans while his child was missing. He would have torn the city apart to find her and his siblings knew that. There was a small, small part of him that saw the reasoning in his sibling's choice, and he knew that they would do anything to find Hope, but they would probably not go straight to violence. He had also convinced himself that it was good that he was at the compound, in case Hope returned of her own volition, he would be there.

The Hybrid was snapped from his thoughts as he heard a knock at the door of the compound. He stared at the door for only a moment before he rushed to it and threw them open.
