Is it really a family photo if there's no chaos

as the sun rose for the fifth and final day of the king's celebration excitement began to bubble, anticipation for the joust to come rippling through all that were present. seats were taken, bets were placed before the king stood and reminded the crowd of his triumph at the trident that had allowed for all this to take place. as he sat a squire immediately handed him a chalice and he waved to signal they should start.

the tourney got underway with a match between isao serrett and vorian stone. the westerlander sported the favour of cerenna lannister but it failed to bring him the luck needed to beat the valeman. ser vorian was declared the winner after coming triumphant in two of their three clashes, to the applause of the host aysia tully who had given their guard their favour. the tully's cousin was up next with rodric stark going head to head with lord commander of the kingsguard. though he wore his niece, cassandra baratheon's, favour and had the support of king and crowd, the stag failed to triumph against the wolf - there was even a moment where it looked as though the northerner would be able to unseat him.

the next two contests took place between two sets of brothers in laws. the kings son, steffon baratheon, found himself facing lord lefford who was sporting argella lefford's favour. the first two bouts went in the prince's favour - to the king's delight - and though lord lefford claimed the last collision for himself, it was too little too late. the next showdown between good brothers was uthor hightower and royce caron, both wearing their wives' colours. the contest was a close fought one, lord hightower narrowly taking the lead before his brother in law narrow took the next two collisions. vysena caron, who had given her favour to her husband, stayed quiet apart from polite applause.

some were not so fortunate, however, with olynna blackwood's favour providing little luck to stop desmond tyrell from finding himself falling from his horse before a collision had even been made after a mistake from his squire. the accident was ruled in ursula upcliff's favour - perhaps luck granted by their liege araya arryn's favour - and the tyrell found himself out of the competition. ser dayne had the favour of a princess and the support of the crowd but even sporting selyse baratheon's colours could not save him from misfortunate. a loud noise caused his horse to spook and have him fall as control was lost, sending the knight out and lyonel frey through instead.

lorcan lannister sported the silver and sea green of dayana velaryon in his contest against lord fossoway. the fossoway fumbled his lance and the lion seized the opportunity to pounce, striking hard enough to knock the reachman clean from his horse and securing himself a place in the next round. a lannister of lannisport was next with willem lannister and iravan goodbrother's match coming to an equally quick end as the westerlander managed to unseat the ironborn on the first collision despite the master of coin landing a solid hit. there were murmurs in the crowd though whether they were for the lannister's skill or the favour from theon greyjoy he wore might be disputed.

the next round of the competition got underway with vorian stone and rodric stark crossing lances. the battle was tight with both men displaying skills that made it difficult for the other to make any kind of convincing contact with their lances. it was not until the last collision of their contest that the stark was able to gain enough of the upper hand to be declared the victor.

friends found themselves facing one another as willem lannister's name was drawn against lyonel frey's. the pair were well matched with the lion claiming the first collision and the frey claiming the second. breaths were held before their third collision with lyonel taking a moment to secure his green and gold favour from malina tyrell. while it did not bring him victory it did secure him landing a hit on his opponent, willem was simply have judged to hit more skilfully and allowed to progress.

triumphant in her battle with the lord of highgarden, ursula faced the heir to the realm next. steffon baratheon gained the upperhand, seeming to be set to win the bout until the lady from witch isle pulled off a master stroke and knocked the prince from not only his horse but the competition too. despite the display of skill, they only recieved a smattering of applause with the crowd taking note of the displeasure that marked itself clearly on the king's face.

the next context brought the king slightly more joy when the commander of the city watch came up against the queen's brother. it had been thought it would have been an equal match or that perhaps the lion would triumph with ease as he had done previously. but it was the lord of nightsong who emerged victorious after just one collision, hitting hard enough to send lorcan from his horse and the competition.

if royce caron hoped his luck would continue and his skill would carry him through, he would hope in vain. while he had triumphed over a lannister of casterly rock, he came up short against one from lannisport. the contest was a close one but willem gained the upper hand in all three of their collisions to gain himself a place in the final.

the question of who he would face was answered when ursula upcliff took on rodric stark. money exchanged hands in the stands, bets placed on either the northerner or the lady from the vale. but where the upcliff had found their other contests little challenge, it was the stark that proved to be too much. rodric claimed each of the three collisions with ursula only managing to land a few glancing hits.

the final brought stark and lannister together, their first collision being closely contested and rodric only narrowly being declared the winner of it. but the next was far more convincing, the stark leaving little doubt in anyone's mind over who should be victor when his well placed hit sent willem from his horse and shattered his lance. with the event reaching its dramatic conclusion all that was left was for the victor to collect his winning and crown his queen. the stark chose his betrothed, barbrey ryswell, placing the crown of flowers upon her curls and declaring her queen of love and beauty. for the king's part he seemed satisfied enough with the victory of his friend's son and declared the tourney over. he reminded all to make the most of their last night, hinting at a surprise to come later that evening.

while a tournament format was used all initial matches were randomised as were their outcomes.

The Three Years given for Daenerys Targaryen to return to Westeros are drawing to an end and Sansa Stark makes the journey South to witness the King's Moot that will define the future of the realm she fought so hard to protect. Much has changed since the North and the South have come together but some things have stayed just as they were.

Sorry to be predictable, but the Dreadfort.  It’s name is the DREADFORT.  Who wouldn’t want to live in a castle called that????

2. Would you rather be a rich and influential lord, born into wealth and privilege or would you rather be someone who wields power from the sidelines, like Littlefinger?

I’d rather be a rich lord... there’s a lot of security built into having money.  Your actions may be more up front and subject to scrutiny and rule of law, but if you wanna be shady you can hire someone like Littlefinger to be the middle man so you have some cover.

3. Pick one: platinum hair or purple eyes?

Purple eyes!

4. Based on a tag I made once, based on your physical features, which part of Westeros/which house do you belong to?

I’m not sure... my physical features are pretty boring, brown hair, brown eyes, white... My family background is Italian so I’m not as fair as some people, but pretty generic. Maybe I’d be a Stark because that description sounds a lot like how Arya thinks about herself, haha.

5. Who do you think will actually defeat the Night King?

Hmmm, that’s hard... Tyrion was my favorite right out of the gate, not surprisingly, but he loses me a bit in ADWD... Theon’s chapters are great and the Reek chapters are AMAZING (I know I’m biased but still)... I also really love all the Greyjoys, Cersei, Davos, Arya... I guess favorite overall is probably Theon, but those are the other ones that rank highly with me.

10. Your favourite ASOIAF/GOT antagonist?

Ramsay Bolton, Lord of Winterfell and Hornwood, Heir to the Dreadfort

Runners up (who aren’t Roose Bolton): The Brothers Greyjoy, Cersei for sure, and Littlefinger is definitely fun to watch (in before someone stones me to death)

I was tagged by @chillyravenart for some more questions, though some I struggle with because I am really not watching the show:

1. Which Westerosi castle would you like to live in?

Hmmmm, of the major houses probably Highgarden, but there is the slight issue that I suffer with hayfever and living in a place with a humongous garden and infinite plants is probably a bad idea. Riverrun sounds nice too, but the Riverlands doesn’t have the best history in terms of getting invaded...

2. Would you rather be a rich and influential lord, born into wealth and privilege or would you rather be someone who wields power from the sidelines, like Littlefinger?

I would like protection and I feel like that’s better assured from a position of birth privilege, whereas people like Varys and Littlefinger could theoretically easily be cast down and killed. I don’t want power, I just want comfort, safety and security.

3. Pick one: platinum hair or purple eyes?

Puuuuurpppppllllle anything, purple is best colour.

4. Based on a tag I made once, based on your physical features, which part of Westeros/which house do you belong to?

Fairly Lannister - I’m not nearly as blonde as I was as a kid, but I still have green eyes. But my Dad looks more like a Stark and my Mum like a Tyrell so it’s a bit weird (recessives ftw? My sister’s the same).

5. Who do you think will actually defeat the Night King?

I’d like to think it would be a group effort, but there might be somebody specific who sticks a knife in. If Jon does it on a dragon I’d count that as a Dany assist because nobody would have dragons otherwise.

6. Three people you think will die in season 8?

I feel like the remaining villains who were kept around for fan fave/adapted plot reasons probably will: Cersei, Euron... and the ‘Night King’.

7. What would you name your dragon/direwolf?

Depends on its colour probably. Would love a small purple dragon called Amethyst or something.

8. How must Ser Pounce be avenged?

Excuse you, Ser Pounce is alive and well, and I am going to headcanon that he is adopted by Balerion, who teaches him to pester noble asshats.

9. Whose POV chapters are your favourite? (If you haven’t read the books… skip this and hang your head in shame lol jk jk jk)

Hmmm, probably Cersei. She’s not my favourite character in and of herself, but I love her storyline in AFFC and the way she thinks and makes so many mistakes that you can see coming from so far away...

10. Your favourite ASOIAF/GOT antagonist?

Hmmmm, it depends on what I feel like a bit. Roose Bolton is interesting and insidious, but then you have Euron Greyjoy who is just batshit and promises to be terrifying on a grand scale. Probably Euron, I’m kind of excited in a prepared-to-be-horrified kind of way.

Not Winterfell because I hate the cold, not the Eyrie because I’m scared of heights, not the Red Keep because bad shit happened there and ghosts and no, not Storm’s End because I don’t want to live in a fortress nor get blasted by the sea, not Pyke because heights and blasted by the sea. I do love water but Riverrun is probably extremely damp and quite cold in winter. Sunspear might be a bit hot. So I would probably go for Casterly Rock or Highgarden unless the Water Gardens are an option, in which case Water Gardens.

2. Would you rather be a rich and influential lord, born into wealth and privilege or would you rather be someone who wields power from the sidelines, like Littlefinger? Well, I’d rather be happy and comfortable but I note that’s not an option. Maybe someone like Arya or Brienne with the power of Cersei or Margaery, so I could enact the kind of poor relief and charity that Anne Boleyn did irl on a grander scale.

5. Who do you think will actually defeat the Night King? That’s a show thing only right? Honestly, I only ever watched some of s1 so idk, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, Jon or Dany, possibly Tyrion.

6. Three people you think will die in season 8? Again see above. I don’t know how significantly the show endgame is going to differ from the books? Bittersweet is a lot harder to hit onscreen then in writing so Jon, Dany, and Tyrion possibly. If not, is Tommen still alive? (okay, checked and he’s not.) Then Cersei, Stannis (hopefully, given Shireen), and Jorah (hopefully, rly not a fan of him).

7. What would you name your dragon/direwolf? I know Nightsong is already the name of a castle in Westeros but I think Nightsong would be a really cool name for a dragon. Morgan for a direwolf, I think.

8. How must Ser Pounce be avenged? They killed off Ser Pounce in the show? That’s low. Even Balerion got to live on to become a cranky, mean old cat. No idea but he should be avenged.

9. Whose POV chapters are your favourite? (If you haven’t read the books… skip this and hang your head in shame lol jk jk jk) Well, I love having Dolorous Edd saying funny stuff which skews things in favor of Jon and Sam chapters but I like Brienne and Arya’s chapters the most I think.

if cersei killed him as per what d&d said, I’m sure ser pounce’s ghost will be on the sidelines waiting the inevitable moment of her death. or idk if ser pounce had time to have kittens/had siblings/if the others survive, jaime and brienne adopt them post cersei’s death and name one in the next generation after him

THIS IS THE FUCKING MOST UNFAIR QUESTION OF THE YEAR BECAUSE IT HAS MULTIPLE ANSWERS DEPENDING ON THE CONTEXT SO

if you mean ‘as a complete story arc with themes’s resolution and character development’ theon’s are the best hands down

if you mean ‘as the pov you see most of yourself in and actually changed your life’, then my fave are definitely brienne’s

if you mean ‘as an arc that I didn’t see myself liking at the beginning but then bought me over because that character was so well-written I couldn’t help loving every damned comma of their povs’ then catelyn (theon counts too but catelyn gdi)

if you mean as ‘your actual favorite to read/replicate in fanfic/spark immediate joy at the thought of re-reading’ then jaime hands down xD

10. Your favourite ASOIAF/GOT antagonist?

eeeeh..... given that who are and aren’t the *antagonists* in these books is the question it is I’m just gonna go with roose because he’s an a+ character, he’s tendentially sometimes relatable (ie when he facepalms at ramsay’s antics), at least he has utilitarian reasons to do what he does that I can understand if not approve of (WHY DID U HAVE TO KILL MY FAVE ROOSE), without him I wouldn’t have had the bear pit or the harrenhaal bath (xD) and he’s competent without being, like, tywin. jfc. yeah okay roose wins it xD
