BIOGRAPHY
tw: mentions of manslaughter, death, violence November 9, 1991 — Youngil is born mere minutes after his brother, Seyoung. The twins became the new addition to the Nam family consisting of two scientists, who quickly started trying to implant their own interests and ambitions in the boys’ heads. Immediately it was crystal clear the siblings were like two peas in the pod only on the outside. Seyoung was always more willing to submit and follow dreams which weren’t exactly his own, Youngil was his opposite. He hated being told what to do, he resented strict rules existing in their house. From a young age he was a flame hard to tame. Despite countless declarations they loved their sons equally, bubbly and obedient Seyoung was naturally the favorite child. At first it didn’t bother Youngil, but as he got older he soon noticed his parents were neglecting his needs more and more just so they could focus all their undivided attention on his brother. He hoped he could attract the same limelight. After all, his grades weren’t any worse than Seyoung’s, he wasn’t wreaking unmanageable havoc and his teachers actually praised him for his ambition and composure, the traits that were easily making him stand out next to his peers. But, still, none of it was enough for his parents to notice there was another treasure under their roof. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Youngil needed an outlet, something that would ease his mind at least temporarily, a reliever for the jealousy and frustration settling at the bottom of his chest. He found his remedy in physical exercise. When his body was sufficiently exhausted, he had much less energy for dwelling over the mistreatment and injustice he was forced to face on a day-to-day basis. And on top of that, he was rarely at home. At the age of sixteen he joined a ballet group. For a teenager, he was already quite muscular and at a glance it might’ve seemed he harbored little to no delicacy, but once the music played, he was proving the disbelievers wrong with the subtlest of movements. Ballet got him several medals and cups, Youngil got himself a spot in a few international contests. Unfortunately, for his parents he was a shadow lingering in their home. He quit ballet and started dabbling in a more violent activity — street fighting. If he had to endure this intangible ache and constant humiliation, he reckoned he could as well get hurt in a way that would leave visible bruises and scars. It appeared his parents began to see him when he was returning home late at night, with a bloody nose and scratched knuckles. There was no room for compassion; they painted the ghost they had been overlooking as a villain, and Seyoung applauded them for that. December 26, 2008 — Youngil was walking to his bedroom when he picked up on shuffling footsteps. His brother must’ve taken advantage of the fact their parents were already sound asleep and had some sips of liquor. He could hardly decipher what Seyoung was slurring out, but he surely could figure out those single insults directed at him. The drunken smugness, combined with the acrimony he had been nurturing over the past years, threw Youngil off balance. He grabbed the other by his shirt and before his brain digested what was happening, his sibling was falling down the flight of stairs. Seconds later his head was laying in a crimson puddle. In his view there were only two solutions, telling his parents the truth or waiting it out till the morning when he would put on a clueless mask. He had chosen the latter. Youngil didn’t get a wink of sleep that night. The accident scenario was accepted almost right away and he could never tell whether his parents really believed that version or simply didn’t want to deal with the idea of living with a killer. When he turned eighteen, he legally changed his name to Hwang Seungwon. He got into Hwaryung Academic Institute to study philosophy, concentrating particularly on ethics. It was the time of his new self-discovery. Sporadically he was still visiting his parents, who seemed to have grown more suspicious of him. He completely broke off contacts with them when his father’s Alzheimer deepened. The man would often mistake Seungwon for his deceased brother, what was beyond unbearable for him. After getting his master’s degree, he started working at HAI as philosophy professor. He was hesitant whether it was the right place for him. He wasn’t much of a speaker, no matter how confident he felt in his field of studies, the idea of talking in front of a crowd was giving him jitters. But he successfully got over his fright surprisingly soon. In truth, doing lectures could dig out the assertiveness he buried years ago. Even though he did step outside his comfort zone, Seungwon still is withdrawn and tries not to engage in more meaningful relations. Having lived in Hwaryung all his life, he’s aware keeping his secrets hidden under the rug may not be as easy, but his attachment to the city also makes it impossible for him to pack his bags and move out for good. Will everything fall into place one day?

We have a new citizen in Mount Phoenix:
Cha Seungwon, who is known by no other name,                                    a 48 year old son of Morrigan.                                      He is currently unemployed.
FC NAME/GROUP: Cha Seungwon CHARACTER NAME: Cha Seungwon AGE/DATE OF BIRTH: 48, 07/06/1973 PLACE OF BIRTH: Seoul, South Korea OCCUPATION: On indefinite hiatus from his company DEFINING FEATURES:
⊱ Tattoo of an angel on his right arm with the name ‘Rachel’
⊱ Almost always has a well-trimmed moustache
PERSONALITY: He is, and has always been, a bright and warm person, or at least that is what he thought of himself. But apparently that isn’t entirely true considering his family abandoned him claiming him to be all the bad things in the world. So maybe he’s a little self-centred, or maybe he cares more about the environment than he cares about people, or maybe... Maybe he loves the battle more than he can love a person.
He is a son of the Morrigan, born of spirit and spite, destined to wage war even when he is not a violent person per se. So he wages his wars in court rooms and business ventures. Life holds no interest to him unless he can be in a battle against something, and he just so happened to have chosen the environmental battle. But a battle can be found anywhere one goes, and so perhaps Seungwon is a bit too easy to start a discussion, to try and get that adventure in his life through battles that aren’t physical.
Still, he isn’t mean, he isn’t angry and he definitely isn’t greedy. He loves to share what he has, whether that is money, possessions or wisdom, and he loves to learn things about other people so that he can learn even more insight in the world and how it works. Just don’t make him angry, because once his temper sparks, it might just become violent.
HISTORY: The Beginning
He grew up on Mount Phoenix, doted on by his mother and countless others as well. A bright child with opportunities aplenty and the world at his feet. His smile could charm almost anyone into liking him and his generally kind disposition earned him many friends. But he had an adventurous soul as well, which yearned for more in life than just the island. So when he finally grew old enough and with control over his shifting ability, he set out into the world.
The Later Beginning
College was an adventure, an experience, meeting all kinds of different people, having to hide his heritage, adapting to life as a pretend mortal. It was strange, but it was fun as well and he enjoyed every bit of it. He made plentiful friends, had several wild love affairs in there as well, and discovered more about himself than he had in all of his life until then.
He graduated with honours, of course, nothing less would do to make his mother proud, and started to advocate for nature’s place in the world. He became a known face on the television, leader of many protests, starting up a business to use innovative technologies in order to provide a cleaner, healthier world for the future.
Somewhere In The Middle, Maybe?
He got a wife. He got kids. He got the house, garden, tree, pets, babies sort of picture perfect life that everyone strived towards. With his mother’s lessons still fresh in the back of his head, he did his best to raise his children, to build up a family he could be proud of.
He worked hard to provide for them, building his business from the ground up, using his skills and insights to create something worthwhile that would not only support his family but also bring about a better future.
He watched his kids grow up, go from one school to the next, then eventually end up in university. He watched his children grow up the way his mother watched him grow, and he praised himself lucky for the love he was given in his life.
It’s Still The Middle But Later
We’re done, were the words out of his wife’s mouth, and that was that. She’d hired someone to come pack her bags and had promptly taken a limousine out.
The kids took her side, telling him he should have cared for her more, he should have put more effort into his family, he shouldn’t have been so quick to anger, should have taken their feelings into account more. He should have and shouldn’t have, an endless list of blame.
His wife took him to court for everything he was supposedly worth and more, and he let her have the riches she wanted, because there was plenty more to go around, money he’d stored away and planned for his children to inherit upon his time of (supposed) death.
They had never known. They would never know. They had cut all ties with him and told him to never contact them again.
Now, Which Is Sort Of Late Middle, Probably
Left alone and forgotten in his large villa - which the wife didn’t want to have because it was full of memories of him, so she’d made him pay for the newly built one she is now inhabiting - he found himself suddenly rudderless. With no family to provide for and no one to come home to, the house was empty, and a sudden restlessness permeated his life. He wanted to go out, to do, he wanted to discover the world anew, relive his glory days. He wanted to...
In the end, he decided to quite literally revisit the past, driving his fancy car over to the Mount Phoenix bridge to go see what his mother was up to these days and how much his childhood home might have changed.
Who Knows When It’ll End
PANTHEON: Celtic CHILD OF: Morrigan POWERS: Can shift into a raven at will, great battle instincts, increased strength
STRENGTHS:
⊱ Open minded
⊱ Charming when he wants to be
⊱ Good business instincts
WEAKNESSES:
⊱ Easily pulled into discussions
⊱ Impatient
⊱ Somewhat self-centred

My Top 10 K-Dramas of 2017 - What’s Yours?
Tumblr media
2017 is ending soon and K-Dramaland has once again brought us so many goodies this year. As per our blog’s tradition [For 2016 faves click here] , below are my Top 10 favs of the year (my faves in alphabetical order so it might not be yours so please don’t judge)
My only specific criteria this year is that the show must have had started in 2017 to be considered a 2017 series (Hence, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bookjoo and Goblin were in last year’s list)
Chicago Typewriter (tvN)
Tumblr media
Ever thought of a haunted typewriter that will slowly help you recover stories of your past life? Maybe not but this innovative drama does just that. Featuring talented movie focused actors Yoo Ah In and Im Soojung (HER FIRST DRAMA IN 13 YEARS SINCE THE LEGENDARY “I’m Sorry, I Love You”) as lovers separated from the past life but current bickering duo and rising talent Go Kyung-Po of Reply 1988 fame as their half puppy-half manipulative ghost friend from the past, the drama is one rollercoaster of emotions jumping between two equally interesting timelines of modern South Korea and Japanese occupied South Korea. I really enjoy the combination of working out the characters’ mysterious past life and also the commentary on the modern literary world. If you want an intriguing and fun story-line with revolutionary history shenanigans and early 20th century speakeasies, Chicago Typewriter is the drama to watch!
Duel (OCN)
Tumblr media
Finally, CLONES ARE PART OF K-DRAMALAND. After many dramas on multiple personality disorder and twins switched at birth etc., we see the concept of genetic copies and the ethics of such science finally pursued in this well-written and exciting thriller. Yang Sejong plays the clones in question and as a newcomer who only debuted in 2016, he is one to watch out. He expertly played the two dramatically different clones and honestly got me super freaked out watching the show. OCN continues their amazing run with thrillers and I cannot wait for more new content from them.
Fight My Way (KBS2)
Tumblr media
Every year there is one bomb slice of life drama and this year it’s “Fight My Way”! Inspired by the real-life romance of mixed martial artist Choo Sunghoon and his wife Shiho Yano, this rom-com about a UFC fighter and his childhood love is sweet, funny, and poignant, touching on realistic experiences of everyday couples. Park Seojoon excels as the fighter Ko Dongman and I think he honestly does the best when acting in these common man roles like in “She Was Pretty” and “Witch’s Romance” versus the over the top hero ones like in “Hwarang.” Kim Jiwon proves she is no one-hit wonder and here to stay after her “Descendants of the Sun” fame in this relatable role of a girl who has to abandon her dreams due to practicalities of the real world and Ahn Jaehong continues to be a pure delight after “Reply 1988”.
Hwayugi (tvN)
Tumblr media
Only 2 episodes in, the Hong Sisters already prove that once again they are the producing queens of K-Dramaland and Hwayugi is going to be scoring home runs like their earlier supernatural dramas “My Girlfriend Is a Nine-Tailed Fox” and “Master’s Sun”, whilst riding the wave of another widely popular mythical tvN drama “Goblin.” Reinterpreting the Chinese fantasy story “Journey to the West”, this drama plays with characters already well-known in Asian folklore and throws in interesting ghost/demon/monster fighting side stories along the way. Having worked with the Hong Sisters many times, Lee Seung Gi shines in his first role back from the military, playing the mischevious Monkey King Son Oh Gong. The other castings are also great - with Cha Seungwon fittingly being the eccentric and mercurial Bull Demon King, FT Island’s Hongki as the super flirt Zhu Bajie, and Oh Yeon Seo as the pure but strong-willed reincarnation of Xuanzang. If you need a fix after “Goblin”, just watch this already.
My Secret Romance (OCN)
Tumblr media
OCN’s first ever rom-com is a fan favorite locally and internationally and for good reason. It is one of those expected rom-com plots with chaebol male lead, awkward grassroots female lead, BFF with a crush on her, etc. but just done very well. It does do something innovative - going around all the awkward will they kiss or not KDrama stuff to a male and female lead who meet three years later after an awkward one-night stand. Additionally, the chemistry between Sung Hoon and Secret’s main vocalist Jieun is great and made the drama all the more fun, cute and entertaining. Also, THE OSTs ARE AMAZING BECAUSE BOTH LEADS ARE GOOD SINGERS.
Ruler: Master of the Mask (MBC)
Tumblr media
One of the K-Dramas I looked forward to the most this year was “Ruler: Master of the Mask” because of the amazing cast of Yoo Seungho, INFINITE’s L, Kim Sohyun, and Yoon Sohee and boy I was not disappointed. Going with a Prince and the Pauper-esque plot in Joseon Korea, Yoo Seungho and L did a great job in the delivering the two roles respectively. While some people complained the show was kind of slow, I rather the PDs slowly build up the story than rush a lot in the first few episodes then drag on forever at the end.
Strong Woman Do Bong-soon (jTBC)
Tumblr media
Following the popularity of another tough female lead drama “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo”, “Strong Woman Do Bong-soon” also made a strong impression on viewers. The story surrounding a cute and petite girl with supernatural human strength, played by popular actress Park Boyoung, made for a lot of laughs and also led to some fun romantic moments with male leads ZE:A’s Hyungsik and Ji Soo. The pairing of Park Boyoung as Hyungsik’s bodyguard was a well-done flip of normal K-Drama gender roles and I am excited about more female empowerment in K-Dramaland!
Tunnel (OCN)
Tumblr media
After tvN’s “Signal”, I was not sure if I can find another amazing time-travelling thriller of that quality to watch. But OMG OCN is back at it again with their thriller generating machine and they delivered me with “Tunnel.” The male lead, played by the honestly still underrated talent Choi Jinhyuk, is a detective from 1986 who finds himself in 2016 after traveling through a tunnel. Discovering the case he was working on is still unsolved, he joins forces with a modern police officer played by Yoon Hyunmin and a criminal psychologist played by Lee Yooyoung. This show inspired by the Hwaseong serial murders is very good and deserved to be the major hit it was in South Korea, being the most viewed OCN drama of all time.
While You Were Sleeping (SBS)
Tumblr media
Suzy and Lee Jong Suk is one drama already sounds like aesthetic goals but this drama also had good writing and plot to carry itself well. With Suzy playing a journalist who can dream of future deaths and Lee Jong Suk being a prosecutor who acquires her ability after moving into her neighborhood, the two form a likable team and really took us on a roller-coaster ride of emotions. While I am not the biggest fan of Suzy’s acting in the past, she has definitely improved a lot and I think people who are avoiding the drama just because of her should really give it a try.
Whisper (SBS)
Tumblr media
Legal dramas with strong female leads are always fun to watch, be it tvN’s “Good Wife” or SBS’s “Punch.” Another such drama is “Whisper”, which is supposedly set in the same universe as “Punch” according to some eagle-eyed fans, and it follows the alliance between Lee Bo-young’s charismatic but debt-ridden female section chief police officer and Lee Sang-yoon’s virtuous elite judge in their journey to uncover defense industry corruption at Taebaek, the nation's biggest law firm. These two top actors of course delivered great performances and Kwon Yul continues to rise on my list of second male leads to watch out for.
Honorable Mentions:
Tumblr media
Circle (tvN): An ambitious exploration of dystopian futures by tvN featuring a talented cast including Yeo Jingoo, Kim Kangwoo, Gong Seungyeon and HIGHLIGHT’s Kikwang.
I’m Not a Robot (MBC): Yoo Seungho aka #BAE? Count me in and ready to watch all the episodes. Also, the robot thing is a newer drama trope that has lots of potential.
Tumblr media
The Liar and His Lover (tvN): While the storyline is the expected K-Drama rom-com fare, this was a solid debut performance from Red Velvet’s Joy and damn the OSTs were great. Crude Play needs to debut as a real band real quick.
Tumblr media
Mad Dog (KBS2): Another amazing action-packed K-Drama thriller starring the amazing actor Yoo Jitae of legendary movie “Oldboy” fame. Also, K-Drama fans need to watch out for Woo Dohwan as this young actor is very talented and has huge potential.
Tumblr media
Suspicious Partner (SBS): The final drama of Ji Chang Wook before his enlistment, this is a feel-good rom-com with a great cast of Nam Jihyun, Choi Taejoon, and Nara.
Tumblr media

something wicked this way comes…
now introducing bae seongwon, a witch who looks remarkably like choi yeonjun. learn more about this magical creature with a look into the grimoire !!
BASIC MUSE INFORMATION
faceclaim: choi yeonjun of txt muse name: bae seungwon gender: male pronouns: he/him age: 20 occupation: student
THE WITCH THEMSELF
what is your witch’s favorite aspect of witchcraft?: the ability to brew things and be in harmony with nature in a way. using elements from nature, to enhance nature with its own materials and magic. there are unlimited recipes to craft and spells to learn, and he loves to make nature grow. sounds cliche, & it might be, but it makes him feel so cozy at home. he likes to spend free time on the weekends to really come up with some crafty spell from scratch but it doesn’t always end well. due to this, seungwon also has many antidotes in the form of potions and balms, and spells when he ends up in his little messups. his ideal life would be one away from the city where he can be more with nature, but in the mean time, the bits and pieces he can take in are enough. just ‘cos he sounds all warm and fluffy doesn’t mean he doesn’t pack a mean punch if anyone wants to wage a fight with him though.
what is your witch’s least favorite aspect of witchcraft?: anything on the basis of emotions or empathy. he doesn’t quite have that gut feeling that others talk about, the pull from the moon, the lull of jupiter, or whichever direction. seungwon doesn’t feel it in his bones and it worries him. as if he’s missing a few notches that other witches get, and that he’s a few steps behind. he has to make up for what he lacks naturally with studying a bit more, or pure luck. so to put it frank, he’s lacking a lot in certain aspects of magic, and it is something he would like to educate himself on. he doesn’t feel a lot of inner strength, or power in general and finds that his magic tends to be more on the green, and gentle side. seungwon’s also very excited at the idea of a familiar, but doesn’t know quite how to handle being with one. his parents did not have familiars, and it’s pretty much a whole new world other than hearsay to him.

hyunsik let out a heavy sigh once his last students had left the classroom, closing his eyes for a brief moment as he tried to will the tiredness away. he'd been feeling a bit off from the moment he woke up this morning, body aching all over and head about to explode. he didn't get enough sleep last night, wondering if he'd made the right decision when he accepted going to that damn ball with ryujin. something was bound to happen and he wasn't sure how he felt about that.
when he opened up his eyes again, he started to gather his things. now was lunchtime and he’d usually just have some fruit he would bring with him in the teachers’ office. problem is, he’d been so tired this morning that he even forgot to get any fruits from his kitchen, and he ended up sighing once again when he realized that. oh, well. he’d have to deal with it.
walking out of the classroom with his bag over his shoulder, he made his way to the room where the other teachers gathered to eat together and talk, offering a smile to the other four people already in there who greeted him when he walked into the room. settling into a chair, he made himself comfortable, exchanging ‘hello’s with the other teachers.
of course, a couple of minutes into the conversation, one of them – bora –, realized that something was different.
“hyun-ssi, why aren’t you eating anything?” she asked, frowning at him, and hyun bit down on his bottom lip, shaking his head as if trying to tell her not to worry.
“i just forgot to pack some fruit in the morning for me to eat now”, he said, shrugging, and before bora or any of the other teachers (who were now silent) tried to retort, he smiled at them in the best way he could. “it’s okay, though. i’m not that hungry, one of my kids gave me some crackers a few hours ago”, he chuckled, but it wasn’t followed by anyone. well, this is awkward.
“if you want, you can take some of my cookies, okay?” the teacher next to him – seungwon was his name – offered, moving his cookies towards hyun, who shook his head and stretched out one of his arms, trying to decline it in the most polite way possible, a grateful smile hanging on his lips.
“thanks, hyung, but i’m really not hungry. seriously”, he tried to convince them, that apparently being enough since everyone just picked up the conversation from where they’d left it off, and hyunsik hoped they couldn’t hear his stomach churning. he did try his best to talk to them normally for the next few minutes.
at some point, though, a few knocks sounded on the door and all of the teachers turned to look at the person who wanted to come in, because it wasn’t common for anyone to knock before entering; every teacher had the right to come inside the room whenever they wanted, so it definitely wasn’t a teacher.
it was, although, the secretary, whose name hyunsik was pretty sure was hyebin; they hadn’t talked much through the years, as bad as it sounded, and he didn’t think she knew him at all. hyebin was holding a paper bag and scanning the room in search of someone.
“is… lee hyunsik here?” she asked, and hyun raised his eyebrows, sitting up straighter as everyone’s eyes fell onto him.
“um… yes?” he said in a questioning tone, a bit curious about what the deal was, and she offered him a smile when he came into view.
“this was delivered to you”, she said, holding the bag a bit higher and hyunsik frowned, confused, but stood up nonetheless so he could walk towards the door.
“to me?” he asked, receiving the bag from the woman and testing its weight. “but… i didn’t order anything”, or at least he didn’t think so. hyebin only shrugged, chuckling at him.
“it says your name on the bag and the guy who delivered it asked for me to give it to you, so…” she trailed off, soon enough excusing herself to walk away and hyunsik just stood there like an idiot, trying to remember if he had asked for something. he was sure he hadn’t.
when he finally came to his senses and walked back to the table, sitting down and placing the bag on the table, he’d captured the attention of the other teachers.
“did you really not order that?” bora asked him, and hyun shook his head, still a bit confused as he opened the bag, taking a peek inside and he was surprised to be met by the familiar smell of saengseon jjigae.
not really knowing what that was all about, he took the stew carefully out of the bag, opening its lid and confirming the fact that that was, indeed, his favorite dish. what the hell?!
“are you sure you didn’t ask for the food this morning and just forgot?” another voice asked him and he nodded, taken aback by the moment.
“yes, i’m sure. i would’ve remembered if i had asked for my favorite to be delivered to me at lunchtime”, he let out a small laugh besides feeling lost, and heard seungwon humming to himself.
“do you think someone ordered it for you?” he asked while hyunsik took the chopsticks and plastic spoon from the bag, but he ended up freezing with his hand midair as a thought hit him.
he had never received food like that at work, much less food that he really loved, so it was really freaking weird that he suddenly got a deliver of his favorite dish after he’d told ryujin how he wasn’t eating much. was it possible that…?
eyes widening slightly, he realized what was going on there. it was very much likely that ryujin had gotten annoyed at him not taking care of himself well enough, so he decided to send him food so hyunsik would get the message and eat properly. oh, shit.
fumbling with the chopsticks until he could set them down, hyun’s heart was beating erratically inside his chest as he picked up the bag to look for a sender name, but he could only find his own name and “1 large saengseon jjigae” written on it, as well as the address of the school. what the hell.
hyunsik probably lost himself in his own thoughts, staring at his food like it could come to life any minute now, because he jumped when he heard a voice next to him. “hey, are you okay?” seungwon asked, and hyun turned to look at him with wide eyes before biting his lower lip and nodding, trying to calm himself down.
“y-yeah. don’t worry about it”, he tried to offer him a smile before turning back to his food and sighed quietly to himself, caught in a dilemma.
if it was really ryujin who had sent him that… did he want to throw his own restrictions away just for the sake of satisfying his hunger? after all, ryujin was trying to take care of him in any sort of way and the thought made hyunsik’s insides flutter at the same time that he wanted to bang his own head against the wall for a good ten minutes (or more).
but he obviously couldn’t argue with himself anymore when he heard more than felt his stomach grumbling with the smell of the saengseon jjigae, and the only thing he was able to do was put his pride aside and dig into the food, relishing in the delicious taste of it.
for now, he’d take it. afterwards, though, he’d like to hit ryujin’s head repeatedly against the pavement for doing something like that for him…
… and then maybe kiss his wounds better.
just maybe.
