Evil Robot Head.

Little bit more progress on my evil robot model kit tonight, plus a photo. Sanded down the putty from yesterday, and glued on six little parts. Looks like the next section begins the assembly of the shoulders.

I think this may have been one of the Eastercons in the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool. I'm guessing Sou'WesterCon in 1994, and if there was a drawing or autograph from Barbara Hambly, that would confirm it.

As for signings, yup, @dduane's list is mine too:

There's advertising but no promo material and no extra books to sign, so the shop stock runs out and there's nothing for anyone else. (Cardiff - though the aftermath involved a far busier return engagement where I got my first writer's cramp since Final exams.)

The shop gets the date wrong so there's no advertising and nobody knows you're there ("But the signing's next weekend! Isn't it?") despite the air-ticket - which the publisher sent you - being for this weekend. (Birmingham - though the aftermath involved being taken out for some of the best Indian food I've ever eaten in my life.)

The extra stock and promo stuff is there, the advertising posters are up, and even then nobody but regular customers come into the shop. (London - though the aftermath involved being given a stack of rare and original SF3D model kits which I still have.)

And so on and so forth.

On the flip-side,we had one memorable session at Worldcon 1995 in Glasgow, the only convention my Mum ever attended.

That was where she saw with her own eyes - though its significance had to be explained later, I think by @su-whisterfield - that for four minutes by my watch - Four Whole Minutes! - DD's and my signing line was bigger than Terry Pratchett's at the very next table...

Balance was soon restored, of course, but I still remember the Voice From Under The Hat saying, in tones of mock outrage: "'Ere, have you two been passin' out bribes?"

Ah, good times, good times. :-D

Evil robot arms

Did a bit of work today on my long-neglected robot model kit. Finished one upper arm section, and so could assemble the arms for a quick pic like so. Started work on the head and have that about half-done. Trying to decide on parts options for the back of the head, and also waiting for putty to cure.

Pz. Spah 1124 Luna Ganz

Facing attack from the IMA’s SAFS-based Fireball and Prowler suits, the SDR requested space-capable upgrades of their own PKA-based designs. While this retooling was being accomplished, a stop-gap was requested, with the further request that it be based on existing parts as much as practicable. Bomvol Zionel responded with the Luna Ganz, essentially the main body and legs of a Krote merged with the sensor dome from a Neuspotter. The Krote’s ICE was swapped for a high-capacity battery system, and a high-mobility thruster system was also added. This Ganz is in the later camouflage of dark gray over camouflage gray, and wears the markings of the 71st Reconnaissance Squadron, 2nd Platoon, and was known as the “Dancing Crow”. This label was applied after photos showed the units standing with one legs raised , and unit patches were soon painted on the Ganz.

This is Wave’s kit, but is mostly based on Nitto’s earlier Neuspotter and Krote kits, so Nitto’s usual mix of plastic, springs and brass rods are present. The central “power unit” is new, and bridges the two older kits. Also included are armor panels for the legs from the Kuster, an evolution of the Krote. Construction was fairly straight-forward, and no issues came up. The unit is painted in Gunship gray over Camouflage gray, with the tanks painted in steel, the engine bells in burnt iron weathered with red and blue hot metal and soot, and various parts in titanium, steel, aluminum and black. I heavily weathered the model with gray stain after applying decals, as well as adding silver paint-chips. The decals are from the kit, except for the unit number. I hit upon using QR Codes in place of numbers (because why would an AI need Arabic numbers?). I found a code creator online, then saved the image, resized to fit the Ganz and printed off on decal paper. The base is an artists’ wood panel, covered with bentonite clay and small rocks. I printed off a Lunar panorama from an Apollo mission on three pages and attached them to the base, providing a backdrop.
