#sh3 is my baby..

im really sad no one else saw the cult aspects of sh3 more compelling like i did when i first watched a playthrough of it. idk it maybe my religious trauma talking, but the constant talk of bringing salvation and being saved by god steams from the deep primal fear of the world and life and all its sufferings and just the gaping unknown of what comes after death and!!! idk it gripped me personally. along with heather’s struggles with identity, agency, and the constant themes of cycles repeating and rebirth?? 

Saint Alessa Gillespie Mother of God Daughter of God?? am i the only one who thought this went fucking hard as hell?? 

in this part of the game when we see this painting, Heather has been going through a lot of self reflecting, especially during the chapel section. We really get to see Alessa’s life was like when she was carrying God, and it’s during this part I think heather accepts that Alessa is an important part of who she is, even if she’s no longer Alessa anymore. I think she says something along the lines of “I’m not Alessa, but Alessa is still me.” at one point. I can’t help but see it as an allegory for self acceptance, specifically the acceptance of trauma/abuse done unto you. Heather’s denial of being Alessa makes sense during the beginning. She has no memory of being Alessa, and people (Claudia) who clearly want to hurt her keep insisting that she is. 

But the thing is, Claudia sees heather as Alessa: Mother of God... simply a vessel meant to carry their cult’s deity. not the true Alessa Gillespie. So as the game continues with Heather recovering more memories of her past life, along with suffering the same problems as Alessa did 17 years ago, she truly comes to accept that she was Alessa, who fought SO Hard to be and to live as heather!!! Being heather, or Cheryl Mason, was supposed to be Alessa’s hard won happy ending. After literal years of being tortured in a cocoon of pain and misery, Alessa does escape in the end too, through being reborn as heather. How can heather deny that part of herself that used to be Alessa, after all Alessa has done to get her where she is? 

the symbolism of agency and autonomy with the mother of god daughter of god stuff makes me go actually insane. The cult forcing her into motherhood, but Alessa embracing that role to birth a life that She wants to bring into the world? A life that is filled with love and joy (with harry !!! 😭😭😭), her OWN personal paradise??? WAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

What a way to make a horrible first impression. ...But to Claudia, Heather Mason will always be Alessa.

How could she forget the girl she held so dear to her heart? Sometimes, the memories of her are all that she has to keep her going. In that sense... it's horribly ironic, the fate that was written for them - the things Claudia did to hurt her can never be forgiven.

She seeks not forgiveness. But that doesn't mean she doesn't want it. ...However, servants of God must make sacrifices, and people do not always get what they want.

"I see you've made a new start for yourself." Distantly, Claudia realizes what a huge mistake she's made, just uttering that name. Perhaps Alessa may not even have recognized her otherwise, in this new, younger body - and perhaps now she's sealed her own fate, and Alessa will take her life where she stands. Who can say?

"...As have I. Although I doubt you were ever expecting to see me again."

sad for anyone whos first experience with silent hill 2 is going to be the remake; bloober cannot make a horror game to save their lives (ex. this twitter thread explaining the plot to the medium and on a lighter note jerma laughing at the layers of fear baby) and they're taking away things that make silent hill 2 actually. scary. (dramatic lighting is limited and no fixed camera angles, plus the newer graphics in my opinion aren't as scary in general, and on top of that, the fear of how they're known to treat mental illness which is a big part of the game) being on steam makes the game a LITTLE more accessible, but being a ps5 exclusive screams cash grab more than "we want silent hill 2 to be available for old and new fans!!!" silent hill 2 is just not a game that can be successfully remade without taking away what makes it silent hill 2, and this remake is definitely not getting the love and care that it deserves. (honestly nothing will come close to the hand animated facial expressions of the original cutscenes) if you don't have access to a copy or emulation of silent hill 2, please, please, at least watch a no commentary playthrough of the game to experience what the original was like before playing the remake.

if you do have a copy of sh2 on the pc, there is a project called silent hill: enhanced edition that makes it playable on modern pcs which you can find here!

edit: i saw someone say that you can buy sh2 on the xbox store, which is technically true! its the hd remake which includes sh2 and sh3 though, and i would definitely not recommend playing it. long story short, it’s basically unfinished versions of the games with not so good graphics overlaid on top. konami lost the source codes to the original games which means the hd remake is in fact a LOT worse than the original games. it’s definitely playable, but there’s a lot of known issues.

silent hill 3 is my favorite game ever in the whole entire world. I love it cause I get a lot of derealization and depersonalization in my day to day and I love how sh3 expresses those themes both in the world design and the story.

the sound design of the monsters, the static of the radio, and the everyday settings (mall, subway, hospital) being distorted all feels similar to how I experience derealization.

and then within the story there are themes of childhood trauma, and DID. it’s not the most accurate portrayal of DID but it is similar. alessa doesn’t create an alter(s) to remember her trauma so her mind won’t have to carry all of it, but instead she creates one baby child alter who remembers none of it, while she still recalls all of it. her mind wanted to give her or some form of her a chance at a good life, but unfortunately that chance was taken away when cheryl returned to silent hill and fused back with alessa.

and then alessa does essentially the same thing again, except this time there’s no ‘magic of silent hill’ materializing the alters, instead she ‘dies’ but then she remains dormant while heather is the host for 17 years.

and then throughout silent hill 3, heather catches glimpses of alessa’s (and cheryl’s) memories, slowly recalling all of it. but one big turning point is when (through the magic of silent hill), alessa materializes and tries to kill heather. I perceive this as a traumatized alter fronting and attempting to end the systems life. but then heather ‘kills’ her. now (and im kind of dumb so this might be wrong) but I don’t think that alters just disappear and become nothing. I do know that alters can split into two or more, but in this case I’d say it’s more like alessa fuses with heather and becomes one. I don’t know if this is the most accurate portrayal of what system integration is actually like, I think the DID symbolism isn’t exactly one to one, but there are faint similarities.

and this is why at the end of the game heather does not keep her name. because she’s not heather anymore, heather’s gone. she is heather, but within her she also keeps both alessa’s and cheryl’s memories. so by the end of the game, she’s not just heather, she’s not just alessa, and she’s not the same cheryl from 24 years ago. and so she picks a new name. and she does rename herself cheryl as an homage to her father and cheryl’s mother.

overall I just love silent hill 3 because of its themes of DID, amnesia, derealization, and depersonalization. also all of this might just be me projecting and not at all what konami was trying to portray but uhhhhh

I love the Harry lore from sh3 though. the fact that he's like "idk I thought about killing my own infant daughter I knew it was wrong and I loved her but the thought just kept coming back" baby I think you might just have intrusive thoughts which isn't impossible after the multiple traumas you just experienced ♥️

"obsessed with their character arc". Despite happening like completely offscreen I think Harry's entire post-SH1 period where he had to firstly accept that this baby would NEVER go back to being his lost Cheryl exactly the way she was, SECONDLY have to grapple with the fact that he doesn't even actually know for sure this baby isn't the demon god equivalent of a fucking cuckoo bird, ACTIVELY WEIGH THE RISKS of raising and loving a child who literally might be the harbinger of the apocalypse vs. murdering said child but potentially saving the world by doing so, and CHOOSING TO RAISE AND LOVE THE CHILD???? Is one of the most interesting characterizations in the whole series. There was no choice he could have made that didn't have horrific potential consequences attached to it, but even though he literally gambled with the fate of the world by doing what he did, IT PAID OFF and his fucked up reincarnate kid saved the world BECAUSE HE BELIEVED IN HER sobbing and wailing and tearing at my hair.

"my opinions would be received with wasps". This is actually kind of a weird one because it's not so much my opinions as it is bizarre canon details that didn't really jive with me (but that I eventually just incorporated into my interpretation because I couldn't ignore them). Some details in SH3 seem to imply that Harry is a devout church-goer (which is like??????? ok), and the novelization puts a kind of hilarious amount of emphasis on Harry being obsessed with the right to bear arms because how else is he going to protect his CHILD from SERIAL KILLERS like ALBERT FISH! SO I kind of interpret younger-Harry as a nice but kind of traditional small-town guy with slightly more rigid ~American Values~ and then after SH1 he chills way the fuck out (except for the gun stuff I guess, SOMEONE taught Heather how to fire all those weapons lmfao). This is, for reasons I COMPLETELY understand, not a common interpretation of him in fandom. IDK why those weird details were written in. Who did that. Why does Heather specifically mention calling "the church" for help in SH3 and leave a big honking cross necklace on his body. These are questions that I don't know the answer to.

Thoughts about gay rumors for Sherlock Holmes 3

When I saw the news this morning i fall down the rabbit hole again and wanted to share my theories with you.

First at all, I think we are all aware those are just rumors about a movie that did not even started filming yet. So many things can still change. Nevertheless I think there is a little bit of thruth in this rumor. Here me out please.

The treatment of queercoded characters has changed in the last few years. We still do not have reached the point were action heros are allowed to confess their love for eachother, leave alone kiss, but we are making baby steps into that direction. We had Negasonic and Yukio being girlfriends in Deadpool, with actually using the word “girlfriend”. Hikaru Sulu having a husband and daughter. Cherik who were not seperated and killed off in the end, but ended up in Paris, the city of love, offering eachother a ring chess men and asking eachother to move in together. And most recently the producer of New Mutants confirming that his movie will feature an openly lesbian love story.

So you see how the focus starts shifting from making side characters queer to making the actually heros queer. Still, a love confession or kiss is something we are far away from. Nevertheless RDJ Johnlock was allways really touchy. With locking their arms, holding hands, hugging and most imortantly dancing. If they add some extra more touches and jealousy it would not change much for the “regular” straight white dude bros viewer

Sure we have to keep in mind that “We got it covered” is not an official source. So their “rumors” and “inside sources” are often “hit and miss”. BUt we are not talking about Marvel here. There are no fake script and fake leaks to confuse the audience. There are not new rumors every day, most of them condradicting eachother. RDJ Sherlock Holmes 3 is too small for so many rumors. In the last few months "We Got It Covered” only published a few rumors about SH3 and they are really sticking to most of them.

Also when reading the actual article it says: “There is a workshop who wishes to take it further”. Most of the time only small bits of these workshops actually end up on screen, because lets admit, Hollywood movies are about money and many people do not want to watch an openly gay couple. But even with just a few things of the work shop ending in the final movie they would still influence the story and push it further to “canon Johnlock” then the last movies. Not perfect but every step is a good step.

Also Jude Law was allways open to an openly love relationship between Holmes and Watson (”it is a rom com”)

And the script writer wrote for Hannibal. You have to know how to write homeoerotic relationships when you write Hannibal

So in conclusion I would say, we will not see a love confession of any kind, but we will most probably see something that symbolysis a love confession (like Erik offering Charles a ring chess figure). They will move into 221B again and both are completly free of any bounds to women. And there will be a lot of jealousy, that can be seen as “Funny banter between two bros being bros” but someone only needs one remaining brain cell to know that it is actually romantic jealousy

So.... semi-canon Johnlock. But i seriously have to admit that i do not know how they can make RDJ Johnlock more gay and touchy while still hiding it from the homophobes. They even had kissing outtakes in A Game of Shadows. And what comes after dancing, hand holding, hugging and dancing? Kissing... so I am confused...

Favorite Animal(s): SLOTHS!!! I love sloths so much I think they’re super cute and find their slow movements to be cute too, and I can relate to them, every time I see baby sloths and their little squeaks I cry. If I could, I’d love to work at a sloth sanctuary although I think I might cry when they have to go back into the wild. Red panda is up there and I’m sure friends know this since they send me cat pics but I love cats!! And when friends send me the cat pics!! And also dogs, I love all animals man, it’s hard to pick just one.
