yo so there is this Philippine girl pop group called BINI and they've been growing in popularity on twitter not just because of their genuinely impressive vocals and performances, but because of them being one of, if not, the most unhinged OPM stars to ever exist. They are also going viral for being among seemingly the gayest group of Filipino pop girls to ever exist. Both unhingedness and gayness have been at display with surprising genuineness like I'm not kidding those two descriptors seem very much so real so go check them out-

So my ancient boofer here, who knows nothing but sleep and spaz for a treat or walk, needs a treat toy or puzzle toy. And I have no idea what to get her.
Tabby is 14 and couldn’t care less about toys anymore but immediately sits up to beg on her haunches when presented food. And everything I’m finding is for very small dogs. (I guess she’s just uncommonly old or smth but she’s puppy.) *baby kitten and thigh for scale
Anybody with an old dog have advice on a treat toy?

rian johnson has managed to evade all common ethical problems in his screenwriting and i want everyone to know that the knives out mysteries are a perfect representation of how to write about a certain community respectfully AND simultaneously not make a big deal of how good you are at being a diverse writer.
in knives out and glass onion, both main characters are women who have been wronged by the other main character(s)—in marta's case, she experiences xenophobia from the thrombey's constantly; in andi's, she came up with a billion dollar idea which was stolen by a white man. when she took him to court for it, her entire friend group sided with this man; this directly affects helen after andi's death.
andi and marta's stories specifically represent real experiences for women who are minorities in america, but the stories are told without being too ham-fisted or obvious about it. these aren't stories about racism, xenophobia, and misogyny, they're stories involving racism, xenophobia, and misogyny, which i feel is something you don't often see. they're not triyng to prove a point by telling these stories, they're just stories being told—it's a difference that's hard to describe, but you know it when you see it. it's got less of a looking-into-the-camera-for-emphasis vibe.
alongside this, benoit was never a white/male savior to neither helen nor marta (respectively). he helped helen when she came to him about andi and he stood behind marta when he saw the tox report, but he never took over the case and they were never treated like damsels in distress. in the end, helen and marta took control of their own revenge and benoit nudged everyone else to the side while they did it. benoit is not the hero of these stories, helen and marta are.
this is good fucking writing!!!! i need film bros to be positively insufferable about rian johnson NEOW
edit 12/26/22: i've been told that ana de armas is a white latina. genuinely i did not know, she always looked brown to me and i haven't seen her in anything other than knives out, that's truly my bad. i've updated the post now to change the language about marta, other than that everything remains!

“Are you ready to go, baby?” Lucy says after knocking on your bedroom door softly. Both your suitcases were packed, and Keira was on her way to pick you up. You all had a call up for the Lionesses, and were heading to the airport to make the trip over from Barcelona. Lucy sat down besides you, and put a hand down on your knee, when she realised that you were so zoned out that you hadn’t heard her. You jump at the sudden touch, “Oh sorry, what did you say?”
Lucy knew that there was a lot of emotion behind going back to England, it was the first time since your mother, June, had passed away. It had been hard for you to be around everything that reminded you of your mom, so when your contract with West Ham came to an end you grasped the opportunity to transfer to Barcelona, where your girlfriend was already playing. You had been struggling with the loss of your mom a lot, though you managed to separate those struggles and football, earning yourself a call-up.
“Keira is here, are you ready to go?” You nod and let her guide you out of the house. She made sure you were settled before her and Keira went to grab your luggage. “How is she doing?” Keira asks when once she’s sure you can’t hear them anymore. “I don’t think she got any sleep last night.” Lucy answers with a sombre look. “I hope she’ll be able to get some rest on the plane.”
On the drive to the airport you were quiet, a stark opposite to the thoughts in your head. It had been a little over six months since you had moved to Spain, and a few months longer since you had lost your mother. Going back to England wasn't what you were most worried about though, it was seeing your sister you were currently most in your head about. The two of you had always been close growing up, falling in love with the same sport, and pursuing a career in it only brought you closer. When things got hard, you had decided to move away, instead of going through it with your sister by your side. Sure, you had texted and called, but you felt bad for leaving her deal with the immense loss on her own.
Lucy brought you out of your haze by gently putting her hand on your thigh, “Come on love, we're here.” Her voice was soft. One of the things you loved about Lucy is that she could read you like a book, she knew what you needed without you having to ask for it. Once you boarded the plane, you realised just how tired you were. Lucy and Keira’s voices faded to the background, as you fell asleep on your girlfriend’s shoulder.
You woke up just before you were landing, and were glad that you had been able to catch up on some much needed sleep. Once you departed the plane, and got your luggage, a car was waiting for you to drive you to St. George’s Park.
When you arrived, both Lucy and Keira got in between you and the camera crew documenting the Lionesses' arrivals. They did it very subtly, pretending like it wasn’t something they planned on the plane to give you a bit of privacy. You put a smile on your face nonetheless, not wanting the world to see your struggles. Once removed from the first camera crew inside, you were met with another who was documenting the Lionesses reuniting after the international break.
You hugged a few of your teammates, before you saw Beth arrive. Your chest tightened, you wanted to run up to her, and hug her, but your feet felt like they were nailed to the ground. Beth looked around the room, and dropped her bag once she saw you. She made her way over to you, without greeting any of your teammates. You watched her move closer, until eventually her arms were around you, and you started sobbing into her arms. Beth was well aware of the cameras around you, and guided you out of the room, with tears in her own eyes as well.
Beth found an empty room, and closed the door behind you. “Come here.” She embraced you once again, not letting go until you did. “You don’t hate me?” You weren’t sure if you meant to ask the question out loud, but Beth shook her head. “Of course not, I would never hate you. Why do you think I would hate you?” You wipe away the tears still staining your cheeks, “Because I left when things got hard.” Your sister takes your hand and moves you over to the couch in the corner. “That’s okay, I understand why you needed to go.” You scan her face for any sign of her not being truthful, but find nothing but understanding. “I know how much I needed Viv by my side. I know it wasn’t the only reason you needed to leave, but you needed Lucy by your side, and I get that.”
You talked with Beth for a bit longer, until you were ready to head back to the rest of the team. Lucy sees you walk in with a smile on your face, it was a small one, but it had been one of the few real ones she had seen in a while now. She walks over and greets Beth with a hug, and puts her arm around you after.
Over the weeks of camp, you felt yourself starting to become more yourself again. You were back playing with your girls, and it was visible as a real smile was found on your face again more often than not. The thing that you had been dreading, was actually helping to pull you out of your depressive state.
Not only did your smile return, but you also started joking around a bit again. The team had always insisted that your humour was genetic, since both you and Beth loved to joke around so much.
“Ready baby?” Lucy said behind you in the tunnel before you were lining up to walk the field of your first match back with the Lionesses. You leaned your back into her, and let her arms wrap around you. “Yes, I think I am. Are you?” Lucy quickly placed a kiss onto your shoulder, “Good, I’m ready too.” You walk out onto the field, and immediately look out into the crowd, you always looked for your family before starting. Lucy didn’t have any game rituals herself, so she always helped to achieve yours. She was the first one to spot them, and pointed them out to you. After looking in the direction she was pointing at, you found your dad sitting with Lucy’s parents. Seeing them sitting together brought a smile to your face, you waved to them quickly before the national anthems started.
You were playing Australia at home, and so far the possession had been pretty much equal. You both had a couple shots on target, but none had found the back of the net so far.
A bad pass from Clare Wheeler to Katrina Gorry, was your chance to intercept the ball when the Australians least expected it. With the ball at your feet you start running forward, passing Australian players left and right. You looked up to see who was making the run with you and saw Alessia in the middle surrounded by defenders and Beth making the run to the far post. Since most of the defence line had followed Alessia, who started the run first, Beth only had one defender behind her.
You kept your eyes on your sister as you kicked the ball her way, and kept running in case a rebound shot was needed, but Beth volleyed the ball right past the goalkeeper. She runs your way, and jumps into your arms. Tears start filling your eyes, when you spin her around. Once you've put her down, you both turn to the crowd and send a kiss to the sky, dedicating your goal to your mother.
The rest of the team came rushing your way, celebrating the goal with you. During the group hug, you were trying to make your way to Lucy. Finally, when the group started separating again you found your way to her. She placed her hands on your cheeks, and kissed your forehead, before hugging you tight.
The match continued, and you were able to keep your 1-0 lead until the final whistle blew. After celebrating with your teammates, you and Beth get taken aside for an interview. “How are you feeling about the win?” The interviewer asks. “It was a special one.” Beth says, nudging you lightly. “I think overall we had a good performance, but in our next matches we need to work on finishing the opportunities that we are creating.” The interviewer brings the microphone back to himself, “Talking about it being a special one, the link up between you two was amazing, I bet your mother would be proud to see you out on the pitch together again.” Your eyes well with tears again, “Thank you, I think she would be too. She was always one of our biggest supporters, and I don't know about Beth, but I'm definitely playing for her.” Beth nods, and pulls you into her side. “Yeah, mum would be proud.”
Back at the training grounds, you're laying with your head in Lucy's lap in your shared room. “Hey Luce.” She runs her fingers through your hair, “Hi.” You let your eyes meet hers. “Thank you for everything you did for me these past months. I know I might not have shown it, but I appreciate you so much.” Lucy looks at you with nothing but love and adoration, “Of course baby, you don’t have to thank me for that.” You smile up at her, “I love you.” She returns the smile, “I love you too.”

exposed !
jen beattie x arsenal!reader
( a/n: omgggg this has been in the works FOREVER, before jen announced leaving arsenal which i am still not over tbh. but it’s finally here! especially dedicated to @mccabeswife since she requested it ! i hope you enjoy ! )
-
another media day at the arsenal training grounds meant a lot of bored footballers sat around waiting for their turn in front of the camera, the current youtube video being filmed was for three pairs only, another one of those ‘guess what the person is saying whilst you wear sound cancelling headphones’ videos that people went crazy over. the lucky girls who had been paired together for said video had been chosen at random, and you had ended up with leah with frida, manu with katie and viv with lotte which meant the rest of you were trying to entertain yourselves elsewhere.
which wasn’t really an issue when you were all shoved into a recreational room with an assortment of snacks, gossip and phones in hand. beth, the self proclaimed quidnunc of the group had been sat in between you and alessia for the last ten minutes, and had yet to stop telling you about the ongoing drama in the west ham team that she had found out about at an event over the weekend. you paid attention for as long as you could, sharing looks with alessia as you both struggled to keep up with the fast paced ramblings coming from the yorkshire woman but beth was none the wiser.
you felt a dip in the sofa to the left of you, the last bit of space being occupied by someone who threw an arm around your shoulder and when you got a whiff of the familiar perfume she sprayed on every morning, you knew exactly who it was.
you turned your head and smiled at the culprit, jen sat sporting her usual messy bun on top of her head and cheeky smile on her face. she pulled you further into her side and gently squeezed your upper arm, “she still talking your ear off?”
you huffed a laugh at that, looking to see if beth had heard but she was still too busy ranting and raving, now focusing her attention on alessia since you were now occupied elsewhere, poor girl.
“something like that.” you hummed, snuggling up to your taller girlfriend who was happy to let you lean on her. “you finished your influencer activities?” you teased, referring to the number of tiktok’s she had forced some of the girls to take part in since they all arrived.
“aye, i get a lot of love and appreciation from the fans for providing them with five star, behind the scenes content i’ll have you know.” she told you, “but yeah. letting steph take over for now, think she’s really getting into those football murder mystery filters.”
you glanced over to where she nodded towards, indeed seeing steph with her phone in her hand obviously recording herself, with kyra and vic sat either side of her laughing at the story that was unfolding on the filter.
“what happens when she steals your tiktok crown?” you asked with a sly smirk, knowing the older woman would have a meltdown if steph’s content starting getting more love than hers.
“don’t jinx it.” she shoved you lightly, “i’d have to post something outrageous to get me my title back. know i have some mugshots of you deep in my camera roll, i’m sure they’d come in handy.”
“you wouldn’t!” you gasped, sitting up slightly in your seat and the scottish woman laughed at your reaction.
you knew she had accumulated a hefty amount of embarrassing pictures of you over the year that you’d been together, ranging from you asleep with your mouth open to you pulling the ugliest faces whilst you awaited the impact of the ball to hit you during games.
“then you better hope steph gets bored quickly.” she shrugged.
you playfully rolled your eyes at that, finally relaxing back down beside her, grabbing ahold of her hand that was hanging over your shoulder, interlocking your fingers as you did.
“you’re so mean to me, sometimes i don’t know why i agreed to be your girlfriend.” you shook your head as if you were disappointed with yourself, trying your best to hold back the smile that was itching to come out.
that didn’t last long though, as only a moment later the defender jumped up from her spot on the sofa and leaned most of her body weight on you, her hands flew to grab either side of your face so she could get a good view of it as she began to lather every inch of your skin in kisses, her lips not leaving one patch of your face untouched. your squealed and thrashed wildly beneath her, your shoulder knocking into beth’s who finally halted in her gossiping at the interruption.
she kept going, stopping for a second to grin at your flushed state. “you fancied me too much to say no to being my girlfriend you goon.” and with that she continued her loving attack on you.
you wriggled around, laughing as you fought for breath and attempted to push her from you but she wasn’t budging.
“jen! stop, i can’t breathe.” you shrieked between giggles, hands gripping at her red jumper, “you’re right! you’re right, please let me go!”
finally deciding you’d had enough, jen let go of you and you caught your breath as you sagged against beth with a hand on your chest. “you could’ve killed me then, i hope you know.”
“so dramatic you are.” she tutted, pulling gently on your arm so that you were sat upright once again. “now gimme a proper one.”
you grinned, and gladly leaned in towards your girlfriend, giving her exactly what she wanted as your lips met halfway and you sunk into the display of affection almost immediately, your lips moving together in unison before you felt a harsh nudge in your side.
you yelped and pulled back, glaring at beth who only looked proud of what she’d done.
“not in front of the children please.”
-
the next day you arrived back at the training grounds, this time with a full day of practice ahead of you rather than a day in front of the cameras which you were very much looking forward to. media day was always fun, especially when you were partnered up with the right person and yesterday you were lucky enough to have gotten cloe as your pal for the day, so you had no complaints.
but you were excited to get back to doing what you loved, especially with an important match ahead of you. you wanted to get your head in the game and make sure you were one hundred percent ready to face the opposing team on sunday.
everything was normal for all of five minutes, you walked in and greeted some of the staff lingering near the entrance before you headed off to the changing rooms so you could change into your training kit, but before you even had chance to push the door open, a body came barrelling into yours, making you stumble on your feet and your arm fly out to steady yourself against the wall.
you looked to the person with furrowed brows, your jaw dropped in shock at the scare you’d just gotten. “christ steph, what’s up with you?”
she looked worried, as her hands gripped onto both of your arms and the aussie looked behind her where leah and lia were approaching, with much calmer demeanours. “i have to tell you something before you find out from someone else, but you have to promise you won’t be mad at me.”
you eyed her warily, your head cocking to the side before you looked over to the two other girls with narrowed eyes. “what is it?”
“no! you have to promise first.”
you rolled your eyes at that, beginning to panic a little as your mind ran wild with possibilities of what information steph could be withholding from you.
“fine, i promise. now tell me.” you told her, not really meaning it, you just needed her to spill the beans before you tired yourself out from overthinking.
“i kind of, may have, accidentally posted a tiktok that had you and jen kissing in the background of it.” she winced, waiting a beat to carry on. “but i promise it was a genuine mistake! if i had known it was in there i would’ve never, ever posted it i know you guys didn’t want your relationship to be public yet, and i am so sorry please don’t be mad at me.”
“what?”
a stupid question, most definitely but it was the only thing that you could manage to say at this moment in time. you didn’t know how to feel or what to say as you processed the information just given to you by steph who was still watching you carefully, as if she was awaiting some kind of wild outburst.
an array of different emotions passed through you simultaneously, you were annoyed at steph for outing your relationship on a platform that spread content like wildfire. no doubt screenshots and recordings of the tiktok had already been shared to the likes of twitter and instagram, posts made that couldn’t be taken back now. how could steph have let that happen? why did she not spot it before she pressed post?
you were also panicking. did jen know? would she be annoyed? would this change things between you? you’d both agreed when you first began dating, after months of mutual pining, that when you got together you would keep your relationship as private as you could, for as long as you could.
something that was unfortunately common amongst women’s football, was how invasive some fans could be in the players lives. you had seen how they could overstep boundaries and pry too deep into stuff they didn’t need to know about many times, which would then jump to them spreading their opinions without a care about who was on the other side of their sometimes vicious comments. you’d been witness to it ruining some of your friends relationships, and you didn’t want that to happen to you and jen. jen who you loved, who loved you back, jen who you could see yourself marrying one day in the future. so you had come to the smart, unanimous decision to keep it hush for as long as you could. but now, it was out there.
“does jen know?” you asked next, deciding that was the priority for you right now.
steph shook her head, “no. i was gonna tell her but she’s been talking to jonas since she got in.”
jen had set off an hour prior to you, with fans sometimes lingering outside the training grounds in hopes of getting a photo with some of you before you came in, you didn’t want to risk them seeing you and jen showing up together a few times too many and start to put two and two together, so more often than not you took separate cars and showed up at different times.
you nodded at that, and took in a deep breathe as you tried to think of what to do next. seeing as it was already out, there was no way you’d be able to backtrack or deny that you were in a relationship with jen, so the only real option you had left was to come clean to the fans about it all. you just weren’t sure how to.
“are you still my friend?” you were brought back into the present by steph’s quiet voice, her eyes were still scanning you warily and you probably would’ve laughed at how silly she sounded if you weren’t the person on the other end.
“course i’m still your mate steph.” you told her, and the blonde visibly deflated in front of you. “just wish you had the common sense to check what’s going on in your tiktok’s before you posted them.”
you were half joking, half serious. but when steph tutted and shoved you playfully, you didn’t have the heart to be upset with her anymore. it’s not as if she had posted it on purpose, and with how she reacted when she approached you, you were sure she’d been beating herself up over it since she’d realised what she’d done.
“see! told you she wouldn’t be mad, got yourself all worked up over nothing.” leah spoke up, and then you remembered her and lia were still lingering in the back.
“yeah well, i wouldn’t have blamed her if she was.” steph said, and you pulled the aussie in for a side hug.
“it’s okay steph, just gotta find jen now and spill the beans.”
-
it was only twenty minutes later when jen joined you all in the changing rooms, already clad in her arsenal training kit and with her water bottle in hand, she spotted you almost instantly and her face brightened when she realised you had arrived whilst she’d been busy.
“when did you get here?” she asked, pulling you into a hug which you gladly reciprocated.
“not too long ago.” you told her, rubbing your hands up and down her back. “got something i need to tell you though.”
she pulled back a little at that, looking down at you with a raised brow. “should i be worried?”
you shrugged, “i mean, it’s not anything to panic about but … i don’t know if you’re going to like it.”
you nodded your head towards the door, gesturing to the empty hallway on the other side where you could both have the conversation privately with nobody there to eavesdrop. jen nodded in agreement, retracting from your embrace and pulling on your hand to tug you in the direction you had just motioned towards.
now standing in the vacant corridor, you leaned your back against the grey wall and watched jen as she stood in front of you with her hands on her hips as she waited for you to speak, which you did after a sigh.
“steph practically ambushed me this morning, she um, did something stupid.” you began, scratching your head as you thought about how to put what happened into words. “you know all those tiktoks she was messing around with yesterday?”
you waited for jen to nod, which she did a second later so then you continued. “well she posted some of them and in one of them, it has you and i kissing in it, in the background. and it’s definitely too late for us to do anything about it.”
you stood with baited breath, similar to how steph had been when she was breaking the news to you, all of a sudden wishing you had the power to read minds as jen’s poker face came out in full force, the brunette not hinting to how she was feeling at all. at least she wasn’t tugging at her loose strands of hair, or biting at her nails, two big tell tale signs that she was stressing which you’d picked up over the months you’d spent together, which was a small win you were willing to take.
“well i guess the secrets out then.” jen shrugged, her hands remaining on her hips as you looked at her slightly puzzled.
“you’re not bothered?” you asked, half expecting a bigger reaction from the woman who was always so careful with how you interacted in public.
“i mean, it’s not great is it?” she asked, “but honestly, a part of me is kind of glad its out there now. i love our little bubble, not having to deal with people we don’t even know deciding whether we’re a good fit or not and all that stuff. but at least now, we don’t have to stress over the littlest things everytime we go out together.”
you listened to the points she made, nodding along with pursed lips in agreement with what she was saying. one of the most annoying things about have a relationship that wasn’t public, was having to be on guard everytime you both wanted to spend time with eachother out of the house, leading to the two of you just ending up having most of your date nights at home instead, not having the energy to make sure there were no prying eyes wherever you went.
“and we don’t have to watch what we post on social media. no more making sure our stories don’t give away that we’re at the same place, or triple checking that none of our stuff’s in the background.” she added on, and your lips quirked up in amusement at the amount of times you’d had to quickly delete a story or instagram post when you realised there was a beattie shirt in the background, or anything else that gave away who you were with.
“so this is kind of like a blessing in disguise?”
she grinned, “yeah something like that. but don’t tell steph i said anything, she’ll be gloating for weeks.”
you laughed at that, finally being able to relax properly for the first time since steph had practically jumped you whilst you were on your way to get changed. jen approached you, clearing the few steps that kept her away from you and pulling you into her warm embrace, pressing a kiss to your forehead as she did. “at least now we don’t have to do any big, relationship reveal post. you know how much i’ve been dreading that.”
you hummed, “think we should get steph to do a big post for us? i’m sure her drafts are stacked with videos of us.”
“we can ask. but not yet, wanna pretend i’m really mad at her for a bit so i can bribe her into pampering me for a bit.”
you scoffed at that, giving the scottish woman a faux disgusted look. “you’re evil beattie.”
“you love me.”

Arsenal x teen r where she has had a really tiring day and falls asleep on the bench during the game. (Minor ausenal x r bc she’s a Tillie)
the big screen
Arsenal x teen!reader
Tumblr media
super short but pretty cute
Warnings: none
———————————————————————
You were still sprinting. It felt like you hadn’t stopped in days. Receiving a ball from Lia you made your way around some of the west ham girls, ball at your feet, running towards Beth who seemed to be completely open and running up with you, before you no longer felt the ground at your boots and were knocked down.
Quickly getting up and throwing your hands up at the ref who kept on running with the play, you were running up and down once again. Your body was younger than the rest of the team, so you could physically handle longer minutes than most of the older girls. And were usually playing a full game, but, tonight it was killing you.
When you finally found your number on the substitution board you quickly made your way over to the sidelines, bringing in Kyra for a split hug before she was taking your position for the remaining time.
A few of your closest teammates were currently on the bench. You hugged Jonas briefly and he acknowledged your great efforts, Viv and Vic split from sitting next to each other so you could sit in between, vic shuffling over one seat.
Puffer and water bottle now in hand you comepletly collapsed into the seat. Throwing your head back in exhaustion.
“Brilliant work tiny!!” Vic cheerfully said ruffling your hair
“Thanks” you smiled at her
“Yeah you played incredible” Viv said rubbing your arm. Leah quickly made her way over from where she was to squeeze both your hands standing in front of you.
“Brilliant effort so so proud of you” she smiled at you.
During the match, you managed to assist two goals in the first half, with Beth and Steph.
2 minutes later, your head met Viv’s shoulder. You were incredibly tired and as the hammers slotted in their first goal, you sighed, your eyes slowly shutting.
commentators ;
“Now looking at that incredibly talented bench for the um Arsenal. Including injured Leah Williamson, England captain, who is set to play her first match back in early 2024”
the camera quickly zooms over to you asleep.
“And our teenage star for Arsenal seems to have fallen asleep” the commentator laughs along with the other two on the microphones. Some in the stadium laugh at your fast asleep state on the big screen amongst emirates stadium.
Vic, wanting to see your reaction, quickly shakes you awake, your eyes slowly flutter open with both Viv and Vic laughing. You immediately saw a replay of your face asleep, now flicking back to the present image of you laughing. Face bright red. Before it quickly pans back to the game.
“Why did you let me fall asleep!” You exclaim hitting Viv in the chest.
“You’re a cute sleeper tiny” Viv giggles.
——————
You were pulled by Leah to join her post-match interview with Alex Scott. You were familiar with the ex Arsenal girl and looked up to her as a role model.
“Hello star!” Smiled Alex as she hugged you, before hugging Leah. Someone working for the broadcast handing both of you microphones. “Now y/n, you ran insane, you were always on the ball. Your performance definitely impacted the result of today’s victory. How are you feeling right now?” Alex said slightly giggling with the last part.
“Physically; tired-“
“Oh sweetie we know” Alex laughed with Leah.
“You know I’m not super proud of Emirates stadium seeing that! I don’t know how I managed to fall asleep right there” you exclaimed laughing
“no but obviously a little sore in the legs but mentally so so proud of this team. To Steph and Beth for both of there incredible shots. And everyone who gave their ultimate effort, we took another win and we will take it again next week” you smiled with pride.
Slightly looking at Leah as you spoke, looking for an acknowledgment that you were saying the right words. She would just smile and nod at you to keep going.
“I’m sure the team is so proud of the effect you have made on the team since your singing” Alex said, directing towards Leah
“Yeah we all watch her play and give it 100% every weekend and it’s incredible, and you know in training she’s a tough player to get past I won’t lie” you smiled as Leah spoke, hearing the girls you have looked up to since you were a little girl made your heart heat up immensely.
“Oh awesome well I’ll catch up with you lot later and enjoy your night”
“Thanks Alex” you both smiled before leaving the interview and hugging her goodbye.
“Now let’s get you back home so you can sleep hey?” Leah said squeezing your shoulders as you walked across the pitch.
“Har har. Now please carry me” you said sarcastically before smiling at the taller girl. She slightly rolled her eyes before turning around ready for you to jump on her back.
“Woo!” You yelled as Leah ran with you on her back.

kinda made me cringe at this writing but oh well.
Love you all xx

Disgusting Food Roulette, M. Sturniolo
Tumblr media
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*
Summary: Matt can only take so much of disgusting food roulette, but luckily for him, you're always there to help
Pairing: Matt x feminine reader
Warnings: Gagging, mentions of vomit/nausea
Word Count: 1.5k
A/N: Thank you for the request! This video actually makes me feel so bad for Matt, so enjoy some fluffy care :3
*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*:・゚✧*
If there was one video that was a ‘must do’ for content creators, especially YouTubers, it was disgusting food roulette. The reactions that came with the awful smells and tastes were sure to get tons of engagement and usually go viral as memes. Matt knew this, but that didn’t mean he had to like it. He was so caught up in his own head that he barely comprehended exactly what his brothers were setting out. He was definitely a ‘picky eater’, and not in a typical sense. Matt was a picky eater in that if there was something he only slightly disliked in a food, he would gag and often throw up.
You could see the gears turning in Matt’s head and you blew him a little kiss from out of the camera’s view. Truth be told, you were a bit worried for your boy, especially after seeing things Matt despised like coconut water, pineapple yogurt, and a habanero pepper set out. You knew that he had ‘had’ to do the video in the sense that Nick and Chris would bully him relentlessly if he didn’t, but that didn’t mean you had to like it.
You listened as Nick explained how the app would decide who would eat what food, but all you could focus on was Matt. His anxiety was growing by the second, and it was becoming visible with the way he shuddered and steadied himself with deep breaths. All you wanted to do was scoop your boyfriend up and pepper his face with kisses, but you couldn’t do that while they were filming since it would mean more editing for Nick, so you opted to flash him encouraging smiles instead.
“Let’s begin!” Nick exclaimed happily.
Despite the giddiness in his voice and the way Chris was chuckling and getting Matt in on it, you had a deep feeling in your stomach that this could go horribly wrong.
⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡
So far, everything had been okay. The boys had been eating disgusting food and hamming their reactions up for the camera, but no one had been sick yet. That is, until they reached the coconut water. You could see Matt’s breathing picking up as he practically prayed not to get the drink. Something about the texture, taste, and smell of it nauseated him.
Things hardly ever went the way he wanted them to, though, so of course he landed on it. Matt picked the carton up anxiously, sniffing it and trying not to gag. “I don’t want to…” his watery little voice was barely audible, but you all heard it.
“You have to!” Chris cheered, unable to read Matt’s worry.
“I don’t wanna.” Matt was practically pouting at this point, stealing glances towards you every few seconds.
“One sip.” Nick promised kindly.
Matt swallowed down the worry building in his chest, lifted the carton to his lips, and took a large swig. Sure enough, he barely choked the liquid down before he was gagging, his face red and eyes watering. “I just threw up a little,” he groaned, tossing the box into the sink. “Fuck that shit.”
Your boyfriend made a great show of pretending to go to the sink, only to sneak around the island and wrap his arms around you. You let him lean into your touch for a moment, running your hands through his smooth, brown hair comfortingly. “You okay, bubba?”
Matt shrugged, already feeling quiet from the near vomiting. “Guess so.” he whispered, quiet enough that the camera wouldn’t catch your conversation.
“Matt, get your ass over here! Stop being a loverboy!” Chris yelled.
“Well, I guess my cover’s blown.” You chuckled.
The fans knew you and Matt were an item, but you tried to stay out of the videos as much as possible, unless the triplets invited you to join. You wanted people to focus on the brothers, not you and Matt.
Your boy moped back around the island to where Nick and Chris were, beginning to start the game again. Everything else went fine for a while, until they came to the habanero pepper. Matt was beginning to grow anxious again, gnawing on his nails. It was an anxious habit, and right now, he was beyond worried as the app picked their fingers, unfortunately choosing him.
“There’s no way.” he groaned.
“The app never lies.” Nick chuckled.
Without a second thought, Matt picked the pepper up, chewing off a hefty bite. The spice didn’t seem to hit him right away. In fact, it was like a delayed reaction. He chewed for a moment while you, Nick, and Chris looked on in shock.
“Oh my god. That’s fucking hot.” Matt yelped, eyes watering and cheeks red.
“Spit it out, Matt!” You practically yelled.
Camera be damned, you maneuvered your way around the island and grabbed Matt by the shoulders, guiding him towards the trash can. Your poor boyfriend was shaking and practically howling, but for some reason, he hadn’t had the idea to spit the pepper out.
“Dude, you gotta spit out!” Even Chris was urgent at this point as he opened up the trash can for Matt.
Once Matt had spit the pepper out, you pushed his hair back from his face, surveying his overly red skin. “Are you okay, baby?”
Matt shook his head, eyes watering and coughing. “Fuck no. What was that?”
“Only one of the spiciest peppers ever, and you ate half of it.” Nick snorted.
You sighed, placing a kiss on your boyfriend’s forehead. If Nick needed to edit out the footage of you and Matt, he could. Right now, all you cared about was whether or not your lover was okay.
“Let’s just finish the video,” Matt groaned, chugging down a bottle of water. “It can’t get any worse than that.”
⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡
“We aren’t doing that again unless this video hits ten million views.” Chris told the camera.
“Ten million views easily.” You and Nick said in unison.
While Nick made the statement because he didn’t want to eat anything weird again, you said it because you were heavily worried about Matt by this point. He was laying on the floor of the kitchen, whimpering just quietly enough that the camera wouldn’t hear with his blue juice in hand.
“Matt, what was the worst thing you ate?” Chris asked as he stood up.
Rather than responding, Matt let out a wet belch, his red face surprised at the noise that had come out of his own body. “I’m going to bed.” he said, voice cracking as he tried not to cry.
You watched worriedly as Matt retreated to your shared bedroom, Nick and Chris bidding him quiet goodnights. As soon as he was out of earshot and the camera was off, you turned towards two-thirds of the triplets.
“Okay, whose idea was the pepper?” You asked, raising a brow as you grabbed a cold water bottle for Matt, as well as a cold glass of milk.
“...mine…” Chris said meekly, simply because he knew you were pissed off.
“Matt could’ve gotten seriously sick, if he’s not already.” You said firmly.
“Y/N, I’m sorry.” Chris said quickly as he watched you head towards the bedroom.
“Just,” You groaned, running a hand across your face. “Think next time, okay?”
You stopped inside your and Matt’s shared bedroom, looking around sadly. All the lights were off, save for the lamp on the nightstand. Matt was huddled up under a heavy blanket, breathing shakily and sniffling.
“Sweetheart, you okay?” You asked, placing the drinks on the nightstand and kissing his hair.
Matt shook his head, still too anxious from the video to speak. His tongue still felt like it was on fire, which spread the feeling across his whole body. You frowned, sitting down next to your boyfriend and rubbing his back.
“I brought you some milk. That’ll help the spice, hun.” You said gently.
“I’m not drinking milk,” Matt sniffled. He already felt overly nauseous from the disgusting mix of food he had eaten. If he added milk to the storm already brewing in his belly, he was bound to vomit.  “I’ll throw up.”
“I know you don’t want to, and I know it sounds disgusting, but it’ll help the spice,” You reasoned. “Just one sip, baby boy.” You whispered, kissing his forehead.
Matt nodded after a moment of debate, slowly sitting up with a hand on his stomach. “My stomach is burning,” he groaned. “It hurts.”
“I know, baby. I know.” You said sadly, handing him the glass of milk.
Matt took a deep breath and quickly swallowed a sip of milk. He practically gagged, but laid back down, shuddering and whining. He did have to admit though, that the milk had cooled the burning on his tongue. He didn’t feel all the way better, but at least his mouth didn’t feel like it was on fire anymore.
You quickly got ready for bed, curling up beside your boyfriend once you were done. “I’m sorry your tummy hurts, hun.” You snaked your hand across Matt’s waist, softly rubbing his slightly bloated belly.
“I’m never doing that again.” he groaned.
“You don’t have to, angel,” You promised sweetly. “Just relax, honey. The pain will go away soon.”
Matt snuggled into your side, enjoying your embrace for a while until he fell asleep. Nothing took away his pain the way the feeling of your body softly pressed his did. It reminded him that you were always there for him, no matter what.

"First driving lesson. Are you ready?" "Absolutely not."
You gave a smile and thumbs up to the camera recording you and your husband, whilst max adjusted the strap to your helmet. "Learning to drive in a fast car is a bad idea." You warned him. looking around the controls to the NSX.
"It's not a bad idea." Max assured you, reaching over and buckling you up. "It very much is, liefje." [baby] You dismissed, looking out the open window to the Red Bull team filming you guys from the outside. "Can we get a slower car? I feel like We'd be much safter in . . . I have no idea. A slow car. A Kia maybe?."
Max laughed at you. "Are you serious? A kia? You think I'm a bad teacher." "No!" You turned to him quickly, holding his hands. He was teasing you but you still felt the need to make sure he knew. "Max, you're an amazing teacher. But you being intact is more for our home race is more important than me learning drive."
"You don't like my birthday present?" He gasped, putting his hand on his chest, being dramatic. "I—" you pulled him in a kiss only for your headgear to bump into his and stop you. "ow . . . I was gonna say I love it." Max laughed at you, leaning his head on the window while your glared at him.
"Where's the go and stop." You were commanding him now, putting both your hands on the steering wheel.
You did eventually get the basics, you were to scared to lift your leg off the brake that the car was literally only moving for a meter before it came to a full stop. The process of breaking every few seconds continued until max was able to get you confident in yourself to drive a steady 40 kilometre per hour around the long straight.
★ ☆ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"How is it, with the wife." "My wife?" Max's eyes light up at the mention of you. He was up onstage in the fan zone, sitting on a stool with checo and an f1 presenter. "Married life, how is it?"
"Well, I didn't know if the video went out yet, but i just gave her her first driving lesson this morning—" "really?" Natalie pink ham butted in, giggling.
"Is that what that was?" Checo laughed along with the crowd.
"I mean, no offense, Shatje; she sucks at driving. But it's nice to have that contrast, because I cannot paint or cook for the life of me." He laughed, leaning back to look at the side stage where you stood, smiling at him. "She's gonna kill me when we get home. Look at that smile."
The crowd erupted in laughter. Max waved you a hi, even though he was spending the whole day with you. You rolled your eyes playfully, folding your arms. You couldn't help the smile that curled on your lips as you looked at the cute puppy of a Dutch f1 driver. "Beautiful smile." Max chuckled, turning back to the fans.
You two were stuck to each other after the interview, sitting all cozied up in the hospitality, snuggled up to each other as you scrolled through your phone, both of you judging the décor and furniture you would need to renovate.
"This wallpaper is nice." You hum, pressing on the image. "My love, we don't need wallpaper. We have you." You chuckled, shaking your head. "I'm serious, you're very talented." He tilted your chin up kissing you.
★ ☆ ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Maxie!" you called through the house, peaking out of the bathroom door. You peaked down the foreign Belgian house, looking down the hall looking for your husband. "Maxie!" You called louder. "Ja, schat?" [yes, love]
"Kun je een handdoek voor me halen? . . alstublieft." [can you get me a towel, please]
"Wat? ik kan je niet horen."[what? i cant hear you] he called back. You could hear the faint noise of the tv from where max sat in the living room.
"Towel, Max." You sighed. What was he watching, foot ball? "I'm wet, and I'm cold and I'm naked—" yep that did it. You heard his footsteps run up the stairs at the word, his fluff of blond peaked from behind the wall to try and see you.
But you thought before hand and hid your body behind the door so all Max could see was your wet and messy hair and smile as you repeated the word. "Towel."
He pouted with a huff as he stomped to your room, returning seconds later with a fluffy towel. "Thank you." You hum, pulling the towel in with you, disappearing behind the door. Only, the towel was pulling from you. You peaked out the door to see Max holding the opposite corner, puppy eyes as he looked at you.
"Max, not now." You whispered feeling your face redden with embarrassment as he tried to peak in. "één kus, één kus." [one kiss, one kiss] you pleaded and you couldn't say no, leaning in and granting him his wish.
Well, you ended up granting him another wish as well because asking for one kiss turned into two kiss turned into 6 turned into 20 and so on. Which led you to being eaten out for the first time while sitting on the edge of the bathtub, hand entangled in blond locks, with gasps leaving your mouth.
You didn't know what max was doing, head between his thighs, eyes staring up at you as he licked and sucked and lapped and did things you never imagined of before. Your body shivered each time his warm tongue would drag across your gummy walls or take your bud into his mouth. You didn't even realize it when your orgasm dawned on you, heaving with whines and whimpers.
You caught his lips once he was back to your height and max was quick to return the favour, savouring your lips as he pulled you straight to your feet to his bedroom, 2 and a half hours from zandvoort f1 circuit; but he wanted you to have your first time in a home, under the moonlight of his windows.
Which you've got to admit, was a magical night.

omg hi I saw your requests were open and I loved loved loved ‘all of the ways’ could you please write something about readers reaction to Harry’s goal at the charity match? Thank you!!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
this was from last year omg... how did i not see it 😃 and also as a west ham fan this was absolutely beautiful to write 🤭
the real deal, harry lewis.
summary: you attend the 2023 sidemen charity game and just to your luck, harry scores his first goal.
warnings: not proof read!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
walking up the steps that led to the top of the lower blocks in the london stadium, you smiled, unable to contain your excitement for the game that was to follow.
the sidemen were having another of their charity football games, and as you always were, you came along to support harry.
arm in arm with freya, the two of you, along with faith and a few others of the sidemen family, walked towards your seats, your eyes flickering around as you took in the large amount of people who came.
it was a hot day, and despite feeling the material sticking a little to your body, you didn't regret wearing the black 'wroetoshaw 77' shirt, proud to show off your boyfriend.
leading up to today's event, harry had been moaning and groaning about not yet scoring a goal since the first charity match, but he was just happy to be out there with the boys.
"well, when you score your first," you'd told him, hand cupping his cheeks as you pulled his face towards you. "i'll be right there with you to celebrate."
that was more than enough motivation to give harry his end goal of the day ─── score a goal just for you.
collecting olive from ethan as they walked out onto the pitch, faith sat back down with the babbling bundle of joy, nervously tapping your thighs. "gosh, i can't wait for it to start already!" she squealed.
and you shared her excitement equally, a bright smile on your face as you watched harry looking around the block for you, blowing a kiss and waving your way when he spotted you.
you gladly returned the gesture, fanning yourself with the matchday program and shielding yourself from the burning sun.
as the match went on, you grew more and more interested. of course, it was for charity as well as for shits and giggles, but being with harry for such a long time, you become immersed in the sport that he loved so dearly.
with the first half over, freya had gotten you a drink with some extra ice cubes, and as you say with it, harry and the rest of the boys walked into the tunnel for their half time break, your lover giving you a wink as he walked past.
it didn't matter if he was sweaty or not; the sight of harry alone was enough to make you want to jump his bones.
holding onto that thought, you managed to make it to the second half without asking any questions like you usually would when watching football with harry.
"well, i don't get why they can't just run towards the other goal and kick it in then, if they're allowed to use their hands." you'd say.
"because... because that's just not how it works!"
and now there you were, stood on your feet as you watched vik pass the ball back towards harry instead of taking the shot himself, and your boyfriend didn't miss a beat; he kicked the ball beautifully into the back of the net.
you screamed so loud you couldn't even hear it, turning next to you to grasp freya's arms as faith turned her camera towards you to capture your reaction.
"oh my god!" you yelled, hands over your cheeks as you watched harry and the boys huddle together to celebrate his first goal for the sidemen.
breaking apart, harry turned to where you sat and held up a makeshift heart with his hands for you, albeit it looking like a circle at the first few seconds.
there was so much pride and love in your what for him, that when the game ended and he had his winner's medal and all on him, you couldn't help but smother his face in kisses, outwardly expressing your happiness for him.
"i told you you could do it," you whispered against his lips, his hair tickling your forehead.
"yeah, you did, didn't you?"
pressing his lips to yours briefly, harry pulled back to smile at you, his girl, and his number one supporter.
"looks like the wag life is about to become reality," he joked.
"oh yeah," you laughed. "the real deal."

matildas; the world at our feet ft Y/N
summary ― clips from the docuseries
pairing ― sam kerr x arnold!reader
warning/s ― fluff, character injury, mentions of IVF, pregnancy
based off this request
Tumblr media
[BLACK SCREEN: BADLY RECORDED AUDIO]
UNKNOWN MALE VOICE: We need to know if she is ready to play for the world cup. We can’t waste spots on someone who isn’t game ready, especially not after the hit she took a couple months back.
TONY GUSTAVSSON: I know she’ll be ready. I want her on my team - and help us win that world cup.
[SCREEN SLOWLY LIGHTS UP, FOCUSING ON Y/N SITTING ON KITCHEN STOOL]
Y/N ARNOLD: I know how much I want this, how much I want to be apart of the girls taking us to the world cup and I know i’ll do anything to get there.
[PICTURES OF Y/N KICKING A SOCCER BALL FROM HER MATCHES]
Y/N ARNOLD: As a young girl I knew I always wanted to play sport - I would watch men play at such high levels and wished that could be me.
[CUTTING BACK TO Y/N]
Y/N ARNOLD: And now that I’m here, I’m not going to let anything stop me.
[SAM AND Y/N’S HOUSE; SAM AND Y/N SITTING DOWN ON A COUCH, LAUGHING]
SAM KERR: It think one of the toughest things i’ve had to do so far is admit to Macca that I was dating her little sister (Y/N LAUGHS, THROWING HER HEAD BACK)
Y/N ARNOLD: That can’t be true! Mac isn’t that - (SAM GIVES HER A SHOCKED LOOK, Y/N LAUGHS AGAIN) - Okay, so she’s a little protective!
SAM KERR: She threaten to break my legs so I would never be able to score another goal again.
[SCENE CUTS TO MACKENZIE’S HOUSE; MACKENZIE, LOUGNING BACK ON A COUCH]
MACKENZIE ARNOLD: Yeah, told her she’d never be able to score another goal if she hurt my little sister.
(LOOKS STRAIGHT AT THE CAMERA, SHRUGGING HER SHOULDERS)
[SCENE CUTS BACK TO SAM AND Y/N]
Y/N ARNOLD: but you aren’t scared of her anymore are you? I mean she’s a lot better now
SAM KERR: Yeah, no. Macca and I are good now (LOOKS DIRECTLY AT CAMERA AND SHAKES HER HEAD, MOUTHING ‘NO, WE’RE NOT’)
[SAM AND Y/N’S HOUSE; Y/N STANDING AT HER KITCHEN BENCH, MAKING LUNCH]
Y/N ARNOLD: I think as important as this world cup is for us, it’s a million times more important for the fans and the future fans. Like my heart beats faster just thinking about all those little girls who are going to be at home watching us on screen and realise that this is a possibility for them.
[CLIPS OF THE MATILDAS TRAINING]
SAM KERR: I am so increbiley proud of the team we’ve become, you know. I feel like this is the team that’s gonna win it and in twenty years time i’ll know I was apart of the team that made history.
MONTHS TO THE WORLD CUP; 16
11th MARCH 2022
WEST HAM UNITED VS CHELSEA
[CLIPS OF THE STADIUM, CROWDS FILLING IN]
COMMENTATOR: The atmosphere inside this stadium is electric.
[CLIPS OF THE TWO TEAMS LINED UP ON THE FIELD]
Y/N ARNOLD: It’s really exciting getting to play these kind of games you know? Having my sister on field, even if it is for the opposite side.
[CLIPS OF THE GAME PLAYING]
Y/N ARNOLD: I don’t remember much of the game really but yeah.
[CLIP OF Y/N RUNNING FOR THE BALL IN THE AIR, HER AND AN OPPONENT JUMP IN THE AIR TO HIT THE BALL - A SECOND OPPONENT RUNNING AND JUMPING, HER BODY SLAMING INTO Y/N. Y/N HITS THE FLOOR - NOT MOVING]
COMMENTATOR: Something’s happened - Y/N Arnold has not gotten up after that brutal hit.
[CLIP ON Y/N LAYING ON THE GROUND, TEAMMATES FROM BOTH TEAMS RUNNING TOWARDS HER - SAM SHAKING HER]
COMMENTATOR: Y/N Arnold still down. This doesn’t look good.
[CLIP BACK ON Y/N, MEDICS TRYING TO ASSESS HER - STILL NOT RESPONSIVE, CLIP CHANGES TO THE CROWD, SHOWING FANS CRYING]
MACKENZIE ARNOLD: I think that was probably the scariest moment of my career.
[MACKENZIE’S HOUSE; MACKENZIE SITTING ON A COUCH]
MACKENZIE ARNOLD: I saw her go down, but you know growing up in our household you would always get up. And I remember watching my teammates walk off, so I turned my attention back to the ball.
[CLIP OF MACKENZIE RUNNING TOWARDS Y/N]
MACKENZIE ARNOLD: it probably wasn’t for another couple of seconds when I heard yelling did I look back and saw Y/N still on the ground.
[SAM AND Y/N’S HOUSE; SAM SITTING ON A COUCH]
SAM KERR: I remember her going down, and next thing I know Millie is running towards her with some of the other girls screaming at the ref. (pauses.) By the time I had gotten over there, she still hadn’t moved or woken up and my heart just stopped y’know?
[CLIPS OF Y/N SURROUNDED, MEDICS TRYING TO GET A REPOSNE]
MACKENZIE ARNOLD: She’s never been the one to stay down - and I think that was the scariest part. Like I know my sister and I know that she can come back from just about anything. But this - this was scary.
[SAM AND Y/N’S HOUSE; Y/N SITTING ON A COUCH, LOOKING PAST THE CAMERA]
Y/N ARNOLD: I’ve seen the clips, watched it over and over again. And like I know it’s me, I watch myself hit the ground but I just don’t remember any of it.
[CLIP OF MACKENZIE HOLDING Y/N’S HAND AS MEDIC CARRY HER OFF THE FIELD ON A STRETCHER, SAM HOLDING HER OTHER HAND]
Y/N ARNOLD: I had a grade three concussion, a dislocated shoulder and had split my eyebrow open, to which i needed to get stitches for.
[SAM AND Y/N’S HOUSE; SAM SITTING ON A COUCH]
SAM KERR: I still remember the second that final whistle blew, Mac and I were off that field and running towards the medic room. They were still doing examinations on her, and I still remember them asking Y/N for her full name and she couldn’t answer. That - I can’t even. (pauses.) I don’t ever want to go through that again.
[MACKENZIE’S HOUSE; MACKENZIE SITTING ON A COUCH, WIPING AWAY TEARS FROM HER EYES]
MACKENZIE ARNOLD: It was just so scary you know, (sniffling, as she shakes her head) the look on her face when Sam and I walked in that room - like she didn’t recognise who we were.
[SAM AND Y/N’S HOUSE; Y/N SITTING ON A COUCH]
Y/N ARNOLD: I honestly don’t remember much of what happened even a few days later, but I remember just thinking about the world cup and just believing that I’d lost my chance. There was no way I was ever going to be able to play again, not with these injuries.
[CLIP OF SAM AND Y/N PLAYING WITH Y/N’S NIECES]
Y/N ARNOLD: As a kid I always had two dreams, to become a famous athlete and to become a mother.
[PHOTOS OF YOUNG Y/N HOLDING BABY DOLLS]
Y/N ARNOLD: As my soccer got more serious, I kinda pushed the whole kids dream in the back of my mind y’know. It was like you could either be a soccer star or be a mother. You can’t have both.
[SAM AND Y/N’S HOUSE; SAM AND Y/N SITTING DOWN ON A COUCH, Y/N LOOKING OVER AT SAM]
Y/N ARNOLD: After the whole injury drama, I had been benched for minimum three months. Appointment after appointment, I wasn’t allowed back to training - couldn’t drive myself anywhere and I just found myself at home looking at photos of babies and watching my nieces over facetimes. (SAM LOOKING OVER TO Y/N, SMILING)
SAM KERR: We had definitely talked about kids before, but soccer was always more important i think - and neither of us wanted to give it up just yet. (Y/N NODDING ALONG) but suddenly Y/N had a lot more time on her hands and after many conversations with ourselves, our families and our coaches. Researching IVF and you know all the options within that we decided to start our family.
[VIDEOS AND PICTURES OF Y/N PREGNANT; SOME INVOLVING SAM, FRIENDS AND FAMILY]
SAM KERR: It was such a surreal experience, watching the person you love bring in your child into the world. (SAM BRINGING Y/N’S HAND TO HER LIPS AND GIVING THEM A KISS)
Y/N ARNOLD: Having delilah was just so eye-opening I think for both of us. And the second they put her in my arms, my whole world had shifted.
[CLIPS OF SAM, Y/N AND BABY DELILAH]
SAM KERR: I couldn’t love anyone or anything as much as I love my two girls.
[SAM AND Y/N’S HOUSE; SAM SITTING DOWN ON A COACH, AS Y/N COMES IN THE FRAME - DELILAH IN HER ARMS]
SAM KERR: Hi my little baby (REACHING OUT TO TAKE DELILAH OUT OF Y/N’S HANDS AS Y/N SITS BACK DOWN NEXT TO SAM)
Y/N ARNOLD: (WATCHING SAM AND DELILAH INTERACT) I remember throughout the whole pregnancy I wanted to create a legacy for her, y’know? Something she could look up to and know that she could reach whatever dreams she wanted. I think that was my tipping point like this was the moment I realised I wanted to be back in the game. I want to play in the world cup. I want to win that world cup for her. (LOOKING ONCE MORE AT SAM BEFORE BACK TO THE CAMERA)
Y/N ARNOLD: That’s that exactly what I intend to do.
[TRAINING FIELD; MACKENZIE HOLDING DELILAH, AS ALANNA AND CAITLIN TICKLE HER]
MACKENZIE ARNOLD: Who’s your favourite D? (DELILAH GIGGLING) That’s right Aunty Mac’s is your favourite and I always will be (KISSING DELILAH ON THE CHEEK, DELILAH GIGGLING AGAIN)
SAM KERR: Who’s torturing my daughter? (SAM COMING INTO THE FRAME, ARMS OUT TO TAKE DELILAH OFF MACKENZIE) It’s okay baby, mama will save you! I’ll always save you. (KISSING HER ON THE CHEEK OVER AND OVER AGAIN)
[CAMERA SHIFTS TO ELLIE CARPENTER]
ELLIE CARPENTER: Our own little mascot!
[SAM AND Y/N’S HOUSE; Y/N SITTING DOWN ON A COUCH]
Y/N ARNOLD: So many of my dreams have come true in this journey, I joined the matildas, I got signed on to play for Chelsea. I met the love of my life. Married the love of my life and had our daughter. Like I just can’t believe how my life has turned out. If little Y/N could see us now.
VOICE FROM BEHIND THE CAMERA: What else do you want to achieve?
Y/N ARNOLD: I want to take that world cup trophy home.

Kirsty hummed lightly as she walked through the corridor leading to the interview room, she opened the door, smiling at her girlfriend who sat happily in her Chelsea shirt.
"There she is." y/n cooed, standing up as she ran at her girlfriend excitedly.
Kirsty chuckled catching the bouncing striker as she launched herself at her, pressing excited pecks to her cheek multiple times. The crew around laughed, finding the sweet nature of the two humorous.
"Hi Baby." Kirsty chuckled. "Can I put you down?" She then asked and y/n squeaked, as if realising she was still wrapped around her lover.
"Oh yeah, course." y/n grinned, unwrapping her legs from Kirsty and being set back on her feet. "Sorry." y/n apologised as Kirsty followed her to their seats.
The two competed in their London Derby tomorrow, Kirsty being a West Ham defender and y/n being a Chelsea striker. The two were a known couple in the WSL and an enjoyed one at that.
"Right, so y/n, of course we have to talk about it. You scored your 161st goal for Chelsea over the weekend. How did that feel?" The interviewer asked and y/n grinned.
"Oh fantastic! I mean Chelsea has been such a big part of my life, with me growing up in the academy and then coming into this team, but there is something so special about getting that number in the net." y/n smiles softly.
"And Kirsty, we saw you at the game of course, having played the day before, how did you feel?" The interviewer continued.
"Just so proud, I mean she isn't called the best striker in England for nothing. But I am still so proud because she's done so well and even though I hate the colour she does look good in Chelsea blue." Kirsty smiles.
y/n lets out a laugh at that, smiling at her lover kindly as she traces her face with her eyes, Kirsty's hand slips into y/n's under the table and her hand squeezes tightly, loving the way y/n squeezes back.
"And of course, your relationship is big among the fans how do you find that?" He asks.
"I mean, I love that they love us and have done for so long, but it can get a little intrusive at times, if they don't see us together the rumours can be so vicious and hurtful." Kirsty admits and y/n nods.
"People love to talk to, when it came out we were together, all they could talk about was the four year age gap and it was so annoying and upsetting." y/n agrees and the interviewer nods.
"And obviously this weekend you are playing against each other, how does that feel? How does it effect the relationship?" The interviewer asks.
"I don't think it does really." y/n hums, looking at her girlfriend who shakes her head in agreement.
"Yeah, like we are loyal to our teams but we would never put us on the line because of football." Kirsty nods.
"Do you think some fans may find that un-loyal?" He continues asking and y/n shrugs.
"They're welcome to. But at the end of the day, football is not forever in our lives, this relationship will be." y/n states and Kirsty's head moves so she can admire her lover.
A soft smile on the blondes face as she watches y/n answer the nest question her eyes filmed with warmth as she makes sure to also pay attention to the questions being asked.
"And Kirsty, do you find it hard to defend against her?" He asks and Kirsty looks back to the camera.
"Yeah, of course I do, she's fantastic." Kirsty says and y/n smiles softly, running her thumb over the skin of Kirsty's hand which is still intertwined with her own.
y/n lets Kirsty let go of her hand, the older blonde now placing it on y/n's thigh, squeezing at it as she continues to talk about how talented her lover is at the game.
"But then again, I know her, I know the way she thinks, the way she sees the game, and I know I can use that to try and help my team stop the little rascal." Kirsty says and y/n laughs.
"And y/n obviously you had tough time of it in 2020, with your ACL then a broken ankle, how good did it feel to get back on the pitch just before the Euros?" The interviewer asks.
"I can't quite describe it honestly." y/n admits, the pain and heartbreak flashing through her quickly as she remembers the months it took.
"Take your time." The interviewer nods kindly.
"Well, to get back after an ACL was fantastic, I knew I had time as I was only 23 when it happened. But then first game back to instantly get a broken ankle, goodness, it was just horrid." y/n admits.
The game had been rough, it was against Arsenal and in the 70th minute while they were 2-1 up, Leah Williamson, her captain of her international team, made a bad tackle and broker her ankle.
"It was worse seeing Leah as well, because I knew she felt so awful and I just wanted to hold her and promise her it was okay, but I was in so much pain." y/n continues.
Leah had almost been in tears, she knew how much y/n meant to the Lionesses and the fact the two had such a close relationship didn't help either.
"Kirsty was fantastic however, I mean, I don't think I would have stepped foot back on the pitch without the support system I had. Chelsea, the girls, and Kirsty." y/n says softly.
Kirsty smiles, squeezing y/n's thigh once more as she leans her other hand down and drags y/n's chair to connect to hers, kissing her forehead lovingly as the interviewer smiles.
"I was lucky really, because I had such history at Chelsea and lucky to have such a good fanbase because I had been in the senior team so long already. But it is something I would never wish or hope for anyone because it is very hard." y/n nods.
"Okay, thank you." The Interviewer nods kindly before sighing. "One last question, what's going to be the score?" He asks.
y/n lets out a light laugh, Kirsty following suit as y/n finds herself grateful for the interviewer's way of lightening up the mood which had become slightly sadder.
"Well, I guess they will have to watch Sunday to find out." y/n grins and the interviewer chuckles.
"I agree with that." He nods before the cameras stop rolling. "Thank you so much for that ladies, I really appreciate it." He tells them as they shake hands.
"Thank you, it was lovely to work with you." Kirsty smiles.
"Yeah, you're lovely, thank you." y/n adds and the man smiles before Kirsty and y/n head over to their bags.
"You okay baby?" Kirsty asks quietly as they put their coats on.
"Yeah, I just forget sometimes that it hurt so bad, you know?" y/n asks and Kirsty smiles kindly.
"I know baby." She promises, pressing a light peck to y/n's lips. "Come on, lets get you home pipsqueak." Kirsty adds as she offers her hand and y/n happily takes it.
°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。°。
y/n sighed in relief as the whistle blew, her body flopping on the ground as the Chelsea fans cheered for their win around them. The 2-0 win was hard, y/n getting the first goal just before half time and Sam getting the second barley five minutes before the end of the match.
However, West Ham had put up such a good fight, they had kept close and tight to the Chelsea girls and even had some counter attacks which were nearly a problem.
y/n was kept almost silent by her lover during the match, and while she was coming away with a goal and an assist, she felt absolutely knackered from the game her lover had done.
"You okay down there Pip?" Sam asks, standing over her team-mate and friend.
"Yeah, good cheers." y/n nods.
The nickname pip had originated from Sophie Ingle nicknaming her 'pipsqueak', years ago when y/n first joined Chelsea senior, she was only 16 and eventually Sophie started to call her pipsqueak.
The team found the name hilarious and it seemed to stick once they realised the striker wasn't going to grow above her miraculous height of 5ft 1.
Eventually, pipsqueak was shortened to pip to make it easier and quicker to say, and it was usually said more by her team than her actual name.
"Come on up you get." Sam says offering her hand and pulling y/n to her feet. y/n sighs as she nods in thanks to Sam and goes to grab her water bottle, gulping it down and listening to Emma's talk.
Once they are dismissed, two familiar arms wrap around her middle, the familiar claret and blue colour meeting y/n's eyes as she turns around to face her lover.
"Hi baby." y/n hums, the crowds cheering getting louder at the sight of the couple.
"Hi my little superstar." Kirsty smiles pressing a kiss to her forehead which y/n accepts with a happy hum.
"Pip! Pip's girlfriend! You're up for interviews!" Emma's call rings and y/n groans.
"Emma, why can't you use my name?" y/n whines as she walks past her boss.
"I did!" Emma denies and Kirsty laughs as they get to the pitch-side interview and are handed their microphones and separate to their own interviewers.
"y/n congrats on the performance today, a good win or things to work on?" She is asked.
"Thank you. Look every win is a good win really, but definitely things to work on. We were late to all the second balls, we didn't close down quick enough and we missed some really good chances." y/n nods.
"Always looking for ways to improve right?" The interviewer asks.
"Completely. We always do look for ways to get better, because that is how you stay the best and today proves that we have got a lot to work on." y/n nods.
"Even so, a great goal from you. Did you think it was going to go in?" The interviewer asks.
y/n's first goal had been from about 40 yards out, she had recieved it from Sam and while being closed down by Hawa Cissoko decided to just have a go, hammering it into the top left hand side to everyone's shock and awe.
"Not at all." y/n says honestly which causes the interviewer to laugh.
"Well, I appreciate your honesty thank you." The interviewer nods.
"Of course, any other questions?" y/n asks her.
"I think one more." The interviewer nods, eyeline behind her and y/n turns around, microphone dropping on the floor as she looks at her girlfriend on one knee.
Sam is stood next to the interviewer, clearly having tossed Kirsty the ring when y/n wasn't looking and now the teams had crowded around as Kirsty tried to not cry.
"Marry me baby?" Kirsty asks, y/n wiping a few stray tears away.
"Of course Kirsty, it will always be a yes." y/n nods, Kirsty grinning as she jumps up and presses her lips to y/n's tightly, before sliding the ring on her finger as they pull away.
Suddenly both teams jump at them cheering and screaming as the video being recorded becomes a soon viral one at the show of love one simple question caused.

family heirloom (mat barzal)
day 23 of star’s ficmas
mat barzal x reader
Tumblr media
You had been in the kitchen, helping your grandmother with the ham. Mat and you had decided to spend Christmas with your family. You traded where you spent Christmas yearly, last year you had spent it with his family, therefore it was your family’s turn.
Mat was sitting alone on the couch. He had been kicked out of helping in the kitchen, apparently it wasn’t appreciated when he started eating the marshmallows for the sweet potatoes casserole. Your mom saw the opportunity and joined him on the couch.
“Mat honey, I know you spoke to me about wanting to ask (Y/N) that question,” your mom started. Mat froze, looking around to make sure you couldn’t have heard. “Tomorrow morning,” Mat confirmed. It was a plan. Christmas Day morning, before everyone came downstairs, just the two of you. Your cousin had agreed to wake up early to take the pictures and hide behind the couch.
“I want to give you something,” your mom said. Mat had asked your parents for permission to propose. Your mom pulled out the small box that Mat had no idea was next to her. “This is the ring that my husband got from his mother,” she said. The two both turned and looked at you and your grandmother in the kitchen, placing pineapple slices on the ham. “Which is the ring, (Y/N)’s grandmother got from her mother-in-law and so forth.”
“We want (Y/N) to have this ring, pass along when you two give me grandchildren.”
He opened the ring box and his eyes filled with tears. “What ring will you wear?” he asked softly. “Don’t worry honey, I’ve been waiting for you to ask to marry my daughter for years, I had a replica done when she brought you home.”
Mat knew you’d love it. It would be special. Your wedding ring, a ring passed through your family. He shoved the box into his pocket. You walked out of the kitchen and smiled at your mom and Mat sitting together.
“Everything good over here?” you smiled, leaning over the couch and kissing Mat’s cheek. “Perfect,” Mat said.
He could barely sleep, at six in the morning, he was blinking awake. Texting your cousin who was in a room down the hall to get the camera ready. You were exactly happy that your boyfriend decided to wake you up at the crack of dawn. “I just want to see the morning snow with you and I have presents to put under the tree for your nieces.”
You begrudgingly brushed your teeth and Mat kissed the top of your head and smiled in the mirror at your matching pajamas. Both of you were wearing the green pajamas your mom had bought you two.
He brought you downstairs, acting like he was going to get your coat to go outside while you placed the last minute presents under the tree. He wasn’t getting your coat, he was getting the ring he had hidden in his own coat pocket.
“Mat, the presents are under the tree, did you get my coat?” You stood from kneeling, turning and finding Mat standing there without coats. “Mat? I thought we were going outside.”
“I want to do something before. (Y/N) I have loved you since the moment I met you. I have wanted to marry you the moment you agreed to be my girlfriend. The only regret I have is not asking you sooner.” Mat Barzal sank to one knee, hands shaking like they did the day he was drafted into the NHL, shaking like they did the day he was knocking on your door to pick you up for your first date. “Will you marry me?”
You choked on your words, wiping at tears you suddenly became aware of. “Yes, yes,” you finally got out. Mat stood, holding your hand still as he slipped the ring on. You gasped. “My mom’s ring? That she got from my grandma?”
You remember trying it on when you were a kid, playing in her jewelry box, there was a new level of emotions. “Passing it down the family line,” he smiled as he pulled you in for a kiss.

Heartfirst: A Ted Lasso Story - Chapter Two
Tumblr media
Chapter Two: Part of the Team
Plot: On her first day working for KJPR, Y/n tours AFC Richmond’s facility and meets some of the staff.
Warnings: language, use of f!reader, (16+)
Word Count: 3.9k
A/N: Well, first off, thank you for the lovely response! I certainly didn’t endeavor to write anything for Ted Lasso (I was actually going to take a writing break) but this idea seemed good enough to indulge.
This has been added to the taglist in my bio, so don’t be afraid to click it and add yourself. It will be kept 16+ just for language and the show’s subject matter so I won’t be adding anyone unless your age/range is specified in your bio.
All that being said, I hope this nurses a little bit of your finale hangover. No Greyhounds to be found in this chapter, but a wild Ted does appear. Writing for him is going to be a hilarious exercise for me lol. Enjoy!!
—————————
Wanting to be prepared, Y/n had started doing research on AFC Richmond the morning after accepting Keeley’s job offer.
The slight buzz she’d managed at the bar had blocked from her memory that she knew more about Rebecca Welton than she thought. Years before, she’d seen her face splashed across all the tabloids at news stands and markets talking about her divorce from…for the life of her, Y/n couldn’t remember the man’s name. All she remembered is there’d been perfect pictures of him and his various models of the months, while the cameras always managed to catch Rebecca with a sour look on her face. Y/n remembered feeling like she could read the whole situation without without ever perusing a filthy word.
As she studied, Y/n put together that Richmond consisted of three coaches. The manager, Ted Lasso, was a name the whole country knew, regardless of whether you watched football or not. It wasn’t Y/n’s place to judge, but she assumed if he was still around, there was a reason. He’d brought along an assistant coach from the states with him, along with Roy Kent joining their staff the previous season. Another name she didn’t need to bother to learn as it was already burned in every Brit’s brain. There also seemed to be a scandal with a previous coach, Nathan Shelley, having abandoned Richmond for West Ham United as Richmond reentered the Premier League.
Having gone to school in London and staying after, Y/n had gone to plenty of football matches with friends. Much like American sports, she’d never been as interested as those surrounding her, but she enjoyed the atmosphere. However, she pulled up highlights of old Richmond matches on Youtube and studied them to try and get a feel for the players. Two in particular stood out to her.
Sam Obisanya caught her attention for his raw talent, the graceful way he managed to move in such a brutal sport. She’d also seen the way he handled himself in press conferences, always soft and well spoken. He’d been fearless in his defense of Nigeria, his home country, and against Dubai Air and Cerithium Oil. She had mad respect for him and his bravery.
Then there was Jamie Tartt. Going through videos of his stints at Richmond left Y/n puzzled. He seemed to have started out the cocky striker, too busy kissing his own foot to realize there were twenty more on the pitch waiting to shine. He never passed. He never assisted. It was all him. But then, after his swift departure and return to the team, his playing style shifted. Suddenly, he did pass. He did assist. A few months difference and it was practically night and day.
Y/n sighed as she shut her laptop, having just finished the video of him letting Dani Rojas take the penalty goal that secured Richmond’s return to the Premier League. She hoped Jamie Tartt, and all other Greyhounds, wouldn’t be a PR headache.
The night before she officially started at KJPR, Y/n found herself nervous. It seemed like too ideal of a situation to meet someone at a bar and be offered a job right after losing yours. She felt hesitant to trust that when she walked into Keeley’s office, she wouldn’t find a complete nightmare. She went to sleep with a clenched jaw and stiff shoulders, praying that this wouldn’t be another loss to face.
—————————
Y/n pulled up to the KJPR office building at 8:55. She adjusted her carefully ironed pants, smoothed down her blouse and blazer and took a deep breath. Her capabilities were the one place her insecurities had no place living. She was good at what she did, she just needed a place to do it.
When the elevator doors opened, she was surprised to find a small office with multiple occupied desks set up. Keeley had made it sound much smaller than it actually was.
“Y/n!”
A familiar voice exclaimed and Y/n peered across the room to see Keeley rushing out from behind her desk and bursting out her office door.
“I’m so glad you showed,” she grinned as she scurried to Y/n and took hold of her hands.
“You offered me a job and you thought I wasn’t going to show up?” Y/n asked with a confused chuckle.
“I mean, to be fair, I offered it to you in a restaurant after, like, a glass and a half of wine,” Keeley replied, “I’m not sure I’d have believed me either.”
Y/n laughed a little, very aware that all her fellow employees were not only watching the unprofessional display, but hearing the story of her even more unprofessional hiring.
“Should we…” Y/n gestured towards Keeley’s office.
“Oh, right,” Keeley practically shouted, leading Y/n back and through the door.
True to the little Y/n knew about the woman, Keeley’s office was head to toe…Keeley. Pink everything, floral patterns, a ceramic jungle cat in the corner…it was, most definitely, the most unique of any boss’s office Y/n had ever entered.
“Right,” Keeley said as she took a seat on the couch in the corner, leaving a spot for Y/n, “Let’s get to it.”
Y/n settled onto the couch, leaving a fair amount of space that Keeley immediately cut in half.
“So I know you said that you’ve been more of a manager lately, but that you’re good with PR,” Keeley recounted, “What did you do for you last companies?”
“Oh, I floated around a lot,” Y/n began to mentally run through her old positions, “I managed small teams under a much larger umbrella of board members. Minor stuff. But in the public relations department, I’ve been in charge of social media campaigns, run a few accounts, and handled plenty of press conferences, interviews, that sort of thing.”
Keeley’s smile grew with each task that Y/n listed off. “I think you might be the most perfect fucking fit!”
Language, another unprofessionalism Y/n felt she was going to have to get used to.
“Before all of this happened,” Keeley gestured to the frilly space around them, “I did full time PR for AFC Richmond and did all that kind of stuff. That’s actually where I wanted to potentially start you off.”
Y/n shrugged, silently grateful she’d gone the extra mile with her research, “I’ll go anywhere you need me.”
“Perfect,” Keeley grinned, already getting off the couch, “I was actually heading over there for a meeting with Rebecca. It’d be a great opportunity to show you around and introduce you to some of the staff.”
“Uh, sure,” Y/n quickly picked her purse back off the floor.
“I really think you’re gonna love it there,” Keeley continued, collecting her bag and a pink binder, “I feel bad I’m not there full-time anymore. It really is one of the best places to work.”
As Keeley spoke, Y/n followed her out of the office. She struggled to keep up with how fast Keeley managed to move in her high heels. As they waited for the elevator to arrive, a brunette woman passed them by.
“Oh, Barbara,” Keeley called out, “I want you to meet the newest member of KJPR. This is Y/n.”
Barbara looked Y/n over from top to bottom as if inspecting the latest crop. Y/n’s confidence in her extended hand began to drop under the pair of judging eyes.
“Pleasure to meet you, Y/n,” Barbara seemed to shake her hand with caution before turning to Keeley, “You didn’t mention anything about bringing on a new hire, Miss Jones.”
Keeley visibly shrank at Barbara’s words, “It was a spur of the moment thing.”
“Ah,” Barbara replied, turning back to Y/n, “May I ask what, if any, experience you have?”
Looking between Barbara and Keeley, Y/n listed off the positions she’d previously held and the companies names. With each title, Barbara’s frown turned into…something between a smile and a frown.
“Ah, well,” Barbara took a breath, “Lovely. Welcome to KJPR.”
With one more firm shake of her hand, Barbara departed, off to whatever task needed her attention. Keeley and Y/n were left in an awkward silence not of their creation.
“We’re still getting to know one another,” Keeley explained with a nervous smile.
“I got that,” Y/n nodded.
“Right,” Keeley shifted gears and gestured towards the elevator, “Let’s go. I’ll drive.”
—————————
Richmond wasn’t far from the heart of London, where Y/n had spent most of her time. Functioning nearly exclusively within the corporate world had kept her within a bubble that rarely gave her opportunities to venture outside its walls.
As Keeley drove them through Richmond, making pleasant small talk, Y/n’s eyes were transfixed on the sights. Nothing was particularly extraordinary looking, but compared to the grays and blacks of London office buildings, the place was like a daydream someone like her might create during their 9-5.
“Do you live near here?”
“Hmm?” Y/n snapped out of her thoughts, “Oh, I’m about 30 minutes away. But I’ve never really spent any time here.”
“Oh, it’s lovely,” Keeley replied, turning them down another road, “You should take some time this weekend to roam around.”
Y/n filed the idea away, first she needed to confirm that AFC Richmond was the right fit.
Soon enough, Keeley pulled them into the parking lot of Nelson Road Stadium. Y/n recalled that she’d been there once to see a match with friends in college, but that had been on the spectator side. Parking mere feet away from the pitch felt surreal, even for a non-football fan.
“I’m gonna take you up to Rebecca first,” Keeley said as she shut her car door, “None of the players or coaches’ll be here since they’re still on break.”
Y/n followed alongside her, entering the stadium through the side doors. The inside of the building was painted in team colors of blue and red. Along the walls, there were trophies and framed pictures showcasing the Greyhound’s accomplishments over the decades. The history of the club was something Y/n had yet to do research on, but even ten minutes spent in the halls would tell her more than Wikipedia probably could.
Keeley led them up two flights of stairs till the colors of the walls changed to neutrals. The door at the top of the steps hung open, but Keeley still gave a courteous knock.
Rebecca looked up from her desk, smiling when she recognized the two guests. “Good morning,” she said, cheerily.
“Hi, babe,” Keeley smiled, “I brought Y/n with today. Thought it might be good for her to tour the place.”
“Of course,” Rebecca rose from her chair and met Keeley and Y/n in the middle of the room. She brought Y/n in for a half hug, half handshake, “I’m absolutely thrilled you’re here.”
“Oh,” Y/n smiled, awkwardly accepting the greeting, “I’m…pleased to be here.”
“Right,” Rebecca released her and gestured for the women towards the couch, “I’m not sure what Keeley has planned for you, but we’re never without work here.”
Before Y/n could voice her neutrality, Keeley spoke up.
“Actually, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about,” she began, “I’d really like to have another pair of hands on the club, just in case there’s anything I might miss,” Keeley turned to Y/n, “I’d love to put you exclusively on Richmond duty.”
“Like I said, I’ll go where I’m needed,” Y/n raised both her hands in surrender to their plans.
Rebecca exhaled and grinned, “Perfect. Like I said, there’s never a shortage of work. With this being our first season back in the Premier League, there’s plenty of press to be handled.”
“I’m happy to go wherever I’m needed,” Y/n restated, deciding it was best to just go with the flow of things.
A knock at the door turned their attention.
“Good morning, ladies,” a shorter man sporting a suit and glasses entered the room.
“Higgins,” Keeley greeted.
“Good morning, Leslie,” Rebecca smiled, “I’d like you to meet KJPR, and Richmond’s, newest addition, Ms. Y/n Y/l/n. Leslie is our director of football operations.”
“Ah,” Higgins nodded, coming to the couch to extend his hand, “Welcome to the team, Ms. Y/l/n.”
“Lovely to meet you,” Y/n said politely, shaking his hand before sitting back down.
“Y/n will be helping Keeley handle the PR department,” Rebecca further explained, before her train of thought visibly halted, “Hang on…” she looked to Keeley, “Your old office is still vacant.”
Keeley gasped, “It is.”
Y/n’s eyes bounced back and forth between the woman.
“If Keeley can spare your presence at the KJPR office,” Rebecca placed a hand on her best friend’s arm, “How would you feel about working here?”
Searching for her words as quick as she could, Y/n shrugged one shoulder. “I’m completely fine with that,” she looked to her boss, “If Keeley’s alright with it.”
“Abso-fucking-lutely,” Keeley smiled, “I’d actually love it if we had feet on the ground here.”
Y/n blinked. Just like that, everything was settled.
“Excellent,” Rebecca clapped her hands together once, “Shall we go for a tour?”
“Ah, that was going to be my suggestion,” Higgins spoke back up.
Never before had Y/n been swept up so quickly in a job. Nothing moved that fast in the corporate world.
Keeley, Rebecca and Higgins led her back down to the main floor of the facility. Higgins and Rebecca spouted off a few historical facts about Richmond that Y/n logged away. Rebecca reiterated Keeley’s earlier statement that since they were still on break, Y/n wouldn’t be meeting the players and the coaching staff until training began the following week. Nonetheless, Y/n felt like she was somehow encroaching on the Greyhound’s territory as the tour led to the locker room.
“This will be the only time you enter and the smell is pleasant,” Rebecca quipped.
Y/n chuckled, her heels clicking against the floor as she scanned the numbers above each locker.
“Any favorites amongst our Greyhounds?” Higgins asked playfully.
“Oh, no,” Y/n paused to answer, just below Jamie Tartt’s ‘9.’
“Y/n has openly admitted to not having partaken in much of the sport,” Rebecca added.
“But I’m very excited to make Richmond my club,” Y/n was quick to do damage control over what her tipsier self had admitted, “I think what you all have accomplished here is brilliant.”
The sound of a door opening on the other side of the locker room turned their heads. A man jogged into the coach’s office, bending over one of the desks in search of something.
“That’s odd,” Rebecca muttered, stepping forward and opening up the connecting door, “Ted, what are you doing here?”
Y/n followed Keeley and Higgins’ lead and entered the room. She could finally get a clear view at the man who was, indeed, Ted Lasso.
“Oh, last time he was visiting, Henry left somethin’ in my desk and we needed to come grab it,” Ted answered, searching through one of his drawers until he retrieved whatever he was seeking.
“Ah, well, lovely timing,” Rebecca gestured for Y/n to come forward, “You can meet the newest addition to AFC Richmond. This is Ms. Y/n Y/l/n. She’ll be helping Keeley head up the PR department.”
Ted gave a friendly smile and stuck out his hand, “Well, how ‘bout that? Welcome to the family! I’m Ted.”
Y/n gave a firm handshake and returned the smile, “Y/n.”
The simple utterence of her name caught Ted’s ear. “Hang on now,” he stopped and held up both his hands, “Am I dreamin’ or do I actually hear a lack of accent?”
The five of them laughed to varying degrees. “It’s nice to hear a little bit of home for me as well,” Y/n said warmly. It had been at least four months since she’d met someone who hailed from the states that wasn’t a tourist.
“Well, I’ll tell you,” Ted continued, still shaking Y/n’s hand, “It’s gonna be real nice to have someone around here who’ll understand what I’m sayin’. Like if I text the word ‘color,’ nobody’s gonna tell me it ain’t the right spelling. Or if I mention Chick-Fil-A, they won’t think I’m just shortenin’ the name of a delicious entree. Matter a fact,” Ted came up for a lightning quick breath, “Where we at with that? Is it still okay to eat there? Waters were a little murky ‘round the time I left.
Y/n was trying to process the speed in which the man spoke. “Uh, I don’t know,” she answered politely, “I haven’t been home in a while.”
Ted hummed in reply and moved on, “Well, we’re real happy that you’re here. Hey, you need anything, don’t be afraid to gimme a holler.”
“That’s very kind,” Y/n nodded as Ted finally released her hand, “Thank you.”
“Well, I gotta run,” Ted announced to his co-workers, “I got Liam out there watchin’ Henry. See y’all next week!”
With a chorus of farewells following him, Ted Lasso walked back out the way he’d come.
“Well,” Y/n began, trying to sum up her first impression as tidily as she could, “That was-“
“I felt the same way at first,” Rebecca interjected, “But truly, one of the nicest human beings you will ever meet.”
“Oh, yeah,” Keeley agreed, sweeping her hand through the air, “Seriously, spend one day with him and he’ll be your emergency contact by lunch.”
“The players love him,” Higgins added to their defense.
But it wasn’t Ted’s personality Y/n was startled by. Ted was the midwest personified, that was all familiar. It was the speed in which Ted had offered up his kindness, how at ease he was voicing every thought on his mind. That, to Y/n, was more disarming than anything else he could have done.
“Well, I look forward to getting to know him more,” Y/n said, and there was truth to it. She appreciated co-workers who were actually pleasant to be around, even if Ted was a lot to take, “And the other coaches.”
“Why don’t I show you where your office is?” Rebecca suggested.
Their welcome wagon moved up to the second floor where, at the end of the hall, lay the space in question. It was half the size of Rebecca’s office, which was more than enough for Y/n. She’d last been in a shared cubicle far too small for two people to comfortably fit.
“My office is just at the end of the hall,” Higgins said as Y/n took in the space, “If you ever need anything.”
“It’s lovely,” Y/n smiled, her eyes running over her desk. She turned back towards the door and faced Rebecca, Keeley and Higgins, “Thank you all so much for all the hospitality you’ve shown.”
“Nonsense,” Higgins spoke for the trio, “You’re part of the family now.”
The same unease that had come from interacting with Ted Lasso filled Y/n once again.
The rest of the day was spent bouncing between Keeley and Higgins, discussing PR strategies for the new season and learning about the club’s operations. By the time 5:00 came around, Y/n felt like she had information spilling out of her ears. Her mind was filled to its brim.
After Keeley dropped her back off at the KJPR office, telling her she dazzled on her first day and wishing her a good evening, Y/n hopped in her car and drove right back to Richmond. She had no dinner plans and thought Keeley’s idea to explore the city worthwhile.
She decided on the pub they’d driven past on their way to Nelson Road, the Crown and Anchor. With it being a weeknight, it wasn’t too crowded, and she found a spot at the bar, ordering a sandwich for herself.
“I haven’t seen you here before,” the woman tending bar said after Y/n had placed her order, “You new to town, love?”
“Oh, no,” Y/n shook her head before scrunching her eyebrows, “Well, sort of. I live closer to the city but I just started a job here.”
“Ah,” the white haired woman replied as she filled a pint, handing it to a customer, “Where at?”
Y/n wasn’t entirely sure what the rules were about working for a football club. Were you supposed to go around sharing that information? Or did it mean you’d have thirty drunken fans hounding you for tickets suddenly?
“AFC Richmond,” she answered truthfully, “Public relations.”
The woman’s eyebrows raised an inch, seemingly impressed. “Well, that’s the right answer to get your meal on the house.”
Y/n laughed a little, relaxing slightly.
“Good first day then?”
“Yeah, I guess,” Y/n bobbed her head from side to side, “I mean, I really just met co-workers and learned the basics. No complaints so far.”
“Did you meet Ted yet?”
“I did,” Y/n answered, slightly confused, “You know Coach Lasso?”
The woman pointed towards the pub doors, “Lives on just the other side of the building. Comes in a couple nights a week. He’s a good man.”
“That he is,” Y/n nodded, not wanting to tarnish anyone’s reputation with her own discomforts, “Definitely tries to make you feel welcome.”
“Oh,” the woman was now coming to lean against Y/n’s side of the bar, “He won’t stop until you know you’re welcomed. Best to just let it happen. Whatever he’s done to Richmond, it works.”
It hadn’t escaped Y/n’s notice that in the two seasons Ted Lasso had been coaching the Greyhounds, there was a shift in…everything. Between videos of the players on the pitch, to little stories interspersed in her conversations with Rebecca, Keeley and Higgins throughout the day, Y/n was given the impression that Ted Lasso was a miracle worker. It didn’t take much thought to deduce that Ted was going to try and integrate her into their team as well.
“Well,” Y/n shrugged slightly, seeing that her sandwich was coming around from the kitchen, “I mean, it’s just a job. It’s not supposed to change your life or anything.”
Just as she was about to be handed her meal, the white haired woman took it from the waiter’s hands. Y/n could tell she wasn’t getting her food until the bartender had spoken her piece.
“You just watch out, love,” the woman warned with a smile, “Whole city hated Ted when he arrived, and now take a look.”
She gestured to the space around the bar as if Y/n was supposed to be seeing the peace.
“The best things that happen to us are usually the most unexpected,” she continued, giving her a wink.
Y/n drew a breath, locking onto the woman’s every syllable.
“You’re part of Richmond now,” the woman continued on, “Whether it changes your life or not isn’t up to you.”
Without another word, the woman set Y/n’s sandwich in front of her and went off to tend to another patron.
Y/n was fearful to move, lest the bartender’s words appear in thin air and smack her thoughts into line. What was this strange hold the word ‘Richmond’ seemed to have on people? Y/n had lived long enough in England to know how passionate people got about their football clubs, but this was different. This was dedication separate from the sport itself, rather devotion to the inner workings. To the coaches. To the heart of AFC Richmond itself.
Higgin’s words came back to her, part of the family. It all filled Y/n with an anxiety she’d never quite been able to put a name to.
Regardless of what the culture was, on and off the pitch, she was determined to keep to herself. Interact pleasantly with her co-workers and the team, but no more than necessary. Be proficient at the tasks given to her. Stay in her lane.
Family or not, Y/n decided as she bit into her dinner, she was there to do a job and nothing more.

Hey!!! I hope you are doing well and with all life’s downs you have more ups!!! You’re a fantastic writer and love your voice! If you are willing/interested in could you write something involving the reader watching videos of little Jamie (like when things Georgie would have recorded of him at youth matches or school plays or just Jamie being a cheeky little bugger) and either it’s happening back at Manchester or a little career throwback video thing because he won something big or it’s like his 100th match at Richmond and the reader is helping put together this video to play for Jamie
Hey! Yeah I am doing well, just mega busy bc of holidays and everyone needing therapy and whatevs. Hope you’re well as well🩵🩵
Tumblr media
play it back
“So he was always a little shit, huh?” you comment. You’re sitting on Georgie’s couch as you help her convert videos from old cameras to her computer.
“Oh yes,” she laughs. “But such a cute little bugger. Had the whole neighborhood wrapped around his finger.”
You click through videos, landing on one of him sitting on the grass. He’s not quite one, but he’s sitting up and clapping his pudgy hands.
“Oh my god, I can’t with that face,” you groan. “He’s too cute. I just want to squeeze him.”
“There’s a video of his first birthday party on here somewhere,” Georgie says, and you scramble to find it. You open a video of baby Jamie with his face covered in blue frosting. His hands are covered in chunks of cake, and he’s waving them around while laughing.
“The neighbors brought that cake over,” Georgie comments with a smile. “Jaim was being such a ham, making them laugh. He knew what he was doing, even then.”
You smile and continue forward. Baby Jamie in the tub, baby Jamie sleeping in his crib. Then toddler Jamie on Christmas.
“Show me what you’ve got,” comes Georgie’s voice from behind the camera.
Jamie’s tiny voice says, “It’s a fucking FOOTBALLLLL!” as he holds it over his head.
“Language, Jamie!” says Georgie, but you can tell she’s smiling. Jamie stands up and places the football on the ground.
Georgie says, “No, Jamie, don’t kick it in the-” and the camera tumbles to the ground. She swears, “Christ,” and it goes black.
“Classic,” you say.
Georgie chuckles a bit ruefully. “That was the beginning for him. Found it in a bargain bin and thought it’d get some of his fucking energy out. Think it just gave him more of a boost.”
The next is shaky footage of Jamie, aged six, as he runs on a pitch with other kids his age.
“Go, Jamieee!” Georgie screams. He barely looks at her as he kicks it into the goal, leagues ahead of the other team. He turns to his mum and gives her a thumbs up, followed by a swift two fingers up to the other team.
“Jamie, no!” Georgie shouts, and he switches back to a thumbs up and a shrug as if to say, I don’t know what you’re talking about. The video ends as the ref (someone’s father), pulls out a yellow card while trying to suppress laughter.
“Didn’t know you could get yellow cards at that age,” you grin.
“Well, you know Jamie; he played every part of that game,” Georgie replies.
“What are you on about?” Jamie asks, coming through the door. “Mum, you got the videos out?”
“She’s helping me put them on my new computer,” Georgie says. “Right helpful, she is. And tell me, what have you done today?”
Jamie blushes a bit. “Kicked the ball around the pitch. Soundly trounced some kids talking shit. Oh, and Simon and I went to get groceries.”
You raise an eyebrow. “And where are the groceries, Jamie?”
Jamie says, “Oh shit,” and rushes back outside to help Simon.
You roll your eyes affectionately and press play on the next video.
This one is another match, and Jamie’s older, maybe ten? It’s shot through the window of the council estate as he walks up, presumably from school. He’s dragging his feet but he’s got something in his hand.
“This was me birthday,” Georgie whispers.
“Whatcha got, Jaim?” Georgie asks as he swings the door open.
He smiles and launches himself into her arms, and for a moment, the camera is pointed at the ground. It gets righted and pointed at his smiling, dimpled face as he shoves a bundle of slightly wilted flowers into focus.
“Happy Birthday, Mummy!” he smiles. They’ve obviously been plucked on his walk back home from school.
“Thank you, baby,” she replies and again, you don’t need to see her to know she’s smiling. Georgie sweeps him into her arms as the video shuts off.
Georgie sniffs. “His dad had been round the day before. I had a fucking shiner to put the moon to shame that’s for sure, but my baby boy always knew how to get me smiling again.”
You lean your head against hers and she motions for you to keep on to the next video.
You click through a couple until you find one of him on the pitch again. It’s a couple years later and he’s a teenager, maybe thirteen, and he’s completely skipped the gangly phase you always thought was mandatory to growing up.
“He were twelve there,” Georgie says. “Got scouted in that very match.”
“Started me whole career,” Jamie interjects as he comes into the kitchen with an armful of bags. Simon’s right behind him, arms full as well.
You raise your eyebrows in surprise, but it’s not that shocking. You can tell he’s good, even at age twelve.
Jamie deposits the bags and wiggles into the non-existent space between you and Georgie.
“I was dead cute, weren’t I?” he asks.
“You were,” you agree. “Not sure what’s happened in recent years.”
Jamie protests with an, “Oi!” as you and Georgie dissolve into giggles. Simon (wisely) decides to stay out of it and busy himself with putting the food away.
“I’m putting these on the cloud so I can have that at home,” you tell Jamie, and he worms his way closer next to you.
“Mint. You gonna start a Jamie-table like mum, too?”
“Fuck no,” you reply. “You’re head’s fucking big enough as-is.”
“You like my big head,” he says, and you smack him.
“Not in front of your mum!” you shriek as he tickles your sides. Georgie gets up off the couch to go kiss Simon while Jamie continues to terrorize you, kissing all over your face as you make half-hearted attempts to push him off. He was cute back then, but your favorite version of Jamie is definitely the one you get to hold in your arms right now.

cool, cool, okay, okay, cool, cool
joel farabee x f!gotham fc player
summary: sometimes media conferences are just so unbearable you're left with no choice but to immediately seek out the one person with the ability to distract you from the mess of it
warnings: swearing, fluff
word count: 3.5k
Tumblr media
“What does a typical year look like for you in terms of where you’re going to be, where you’re planning to be, when you’re not playing soccer or training?”
You looked down at the table, rolling your eyes, before looking up towards the various cameras set up in front of you. The voice that had spoken came somewhere from your right, but with the lights blaring from the cameras,  you couldn’t quite make out who it was standing next to it.
The question ran through your mind, and you tried to keep a neutral face when the implications of exactly what they were talking about were clear. You’d stated before that you weren’t comfortable discussing your personal life with the media, even before the whole thing with Joel was rumoured, and despite knowing they’d come back with more pokey, invasive questions this season, it did nothing to help the swell of irritation sparking at your fingertips.
“I’m just here to talk about soccer.” You shrugged uncomfortably, eyes wearily scanning the media crowd, awaiting your next question.
As much as you loved what you did, the worst part of it was definitely having to deal with the media.
“...was wondering what your living situation is now considering Mewis was traded to the WSL?”
You sighed into the microphone, “Uh, it’s not really about soccer, but…” you breathed a laugh. You’d answer this one, though, (even though there was a hint of thinly veiled curiosity about exactly where you were residing and who with) mostly just because it was about Kristie, “Yeah, unfortunately I’m not living with Kristie anymore, but I managed to keep hold of the apartment here which was pretty lucky, and I wish her all the best for her future at West Ham; I know she’s gonna kill it out there.”
There was a general hum as reporters seemed to agree and nod their heads, offering smiles that were bordering dangerously between being a little condescending or pitying, before another voice cut in, this time towards the back, “There’s two more months before your season starts, is there anything in particular that you’re working on to improve your game in the off-season, or have you just been taking a break?”
“You make it seem like taking some time off is a bad thing.” You commented drily, breathing a rather uncomfortable laugh into the microphone.
“Oh, I didn’t mean it in that sense, I was just wondering what you’ve been getting up to in the off-season.”
Fuck.
You inhaled, nodding to bide your time and stall to get your words in the right order, “Yeah, I’ve been resting, trying to recharge for next season and get my mind in order, but I’ve also been training, too.”
“We saw from the Philadelphia Flyers’ hockey team’s socials that you’d also been getting involved there–”
You felt yourself tense.
“And I guess I was just wondering if the Flyers are a team you support in the NHL?”
The breath you’d been holding flew past your lips in a relieved breath, “Yeah, they are. I grew up in a household that were strictly Flyers fans, so it was a pretty special moment getting invited as their guest. I brought my family along, too, which was pretty cool.”
“Did you get a chance to meet Gritty?”
The next laugh was genuine when you nodded, “I did. I was nervous going into that, but I came out alive so I’m taking that as a win. Gritty was great–”
“I know you said you don’t talk about your personal life, and I’m not gonna ask a question, but you were recently pictured leaving a cinema–” you stifled a groan and pressed your hands against your face to shield your reddening cheeks from the cameras. It was bound to come up at some point, and it wasn’t that you didn’t want to talk about Joel, because a small part of you did, but if you did – if – then that’d just distract from your job and more journalists would feel more entitled to ask more questions, and it just wasn’t something you were interested in, “with Flyers’ left wing, Joel Farabee–”
You sighed tiredly, shutting the door behind you, an hour and a bit of travelling back to Philly after the day you’d been subjected to catching up to you. You weren’t technically supposed to be back here until tomorrow, but the first step you’d taken out of that conference room was enough to have you booking an earlier train and risk getting in late, rather than getting the train early in the morning.
The whole of the bottom floor of the house was silent, and your eyes seemed to automatically seek out the expected line of shoes next to the door as you toed your own off, just to gauge who exactly had decided to spend the night. Joel’s you recognised, but there were also another two pairs – most likely belonging to Tyson and Frosty.
You shrugged off your coat, picking up the holdall you’d already had pre-packed from this morning, before tiptoeing up the staircase, mindful for any possible light sleepers, ensuring not to step on a creaky floorboard. There was a small light on in the hallway, and the door to Joel’s room was cracked open slightly, a murmur of sound and flashing lights seeping through from the TV.
You paused on the landing, peeking your head around and concentrating on the sound.
The fucker was watching a rerun of your conference from earlier.
Your feet decided to move before your brain could even realise what was happening, because before you could wallow in the fact that he’d clearly known you were on your way back earlier and purposefully left the hall lamp on, you’d pushed open the door a slither more to sneak through without making too much noise, and were greeted with a softly smiling Joel – his eyes fixed onto the conference before flicking to you in the doorway.
“You’re such a sight for sore eyes.” You sighed gratefully, taking in his PJ-clad form lounged casually on top of the covers. He had one arm resting on the top of his head rather lazily, his other draped across his torso.
“Well, I’m always glad to be of service.” He grinned, pushing himself to sit up, his arms now resting across his kneecaps, “That bad, huh?” He gestured to the screen at the foot of his bed, and you nodded, dropping your bag on top of the covers and leaning down for a much-needed kiss.
“It started off fine, but right about now,” you nodded, cringing, “you can tell they’re trying to get nosy.”
“I hate it when they do that.” He agreed solemnly, not saying much else, but watching you with intrigued, patient eyes as you dug around in your bag.
You shot him a glance, taking in the eye bags and bleary blinks as he fought off sleep, “You didn’t have to wait up for me, y’know?” You murmured, unable to help smiling – both at the soft man in front of you, and at the triumph of finally locating what you were looking for.
Joel just shrugged, albeit a little bashfully, “I figured…I don’t know, I just missed you.”
You felt a small lump gather in your throat at his honest confession, and you fought off the sudden emotion that seemed to be the consequence of your fatigue and refusal to sleep on the train, and chose to throw the bag on the floor – gently – and climb on the bed. Joel seemed to expect that kind of reaction, because before you’d even done any of that he was lifting your side of the duvet up with a smile that just blew your damn mind every time you saw it.
The shirt clutched in your grip, you followed him, climbing under the covers and automatically going to lay on your side, face-to-face with Joel, who’d tucked one arm under his pillow and had one leg draped over yours to pull you closer.
“I missed you, too.”
“‘S that why you came back earlier?” He teased gently, still blinking slowly.
You reached a free hand up to run through his hair, relishing in the way his eyes seemed to flutter closed and the slight lean into your touch, “Yeah.” You whispered.
At your voice his eyes reopened, looking all the more exhausted than mere seconds before, and before you could even say anything he was yawning loudly and stretching his arms over his head before using the momentum to roll…right onto you.
Despite the clenched fist, you wrapped your arms across the broad expanse of his shoulders, pressing a quick kiss to his messed hair, smothering a delicate laugh when he groaned against your collarbone, “What did you do today that’s got you so tired at nine in the evening?” You asked softly, carding a hand through the back of his hair.
Any previous effort he’d made to keep some of his body weight off you was forgotten when he physically melted in your arms at the sensation, a muffled, incoherent mumble tumbling from his lips.
“Sorry?”
He lifted his head off your skin ever so slightly, his eyes still shut but looking in your general vicinity, and you couldn’t help it when your finger traced the bridge of his nose affectionately, once more causing his eyes to fly open at the sudden contact, jumping slightly at the sudden intrusion.
You welcomed the attention though, something he seemed to catch up on by the way the corner of his mouth twitched slightly.
“Me and Frosty got dragged to an entire afternoon of Padel with Tys.” He sighed dramatically, “And I’m jet lagged, I think. Maybe. I don’t know, it’s like all the tiredness has just accumulated and I’ve been in bed since, like, six.”
“Poor you.”
He blinked, raising an eyebrow, “Well, excuse me–”
“No, I wasn’t being sarcastic.” You interrupted, trying not to laugh at the hurt expression on his face, “I don’t think.”
He rolled his eyes, flopping back into his previous position against you, and you felt a stab of guilt for what you were about to do, “Joel?” You poked him, once more rousing him from a much-needed sleep.
He groaned audibly, lifting his head from your shoulder, keeping his eyes glued shut to ward out the harsh lights emanating from the TV. Your conference was still playing in the background, and although the volume was on the lowest setting you knew he could still hear it.
“Two things,” you started, lifting the hand with the shirt up into his eyeline, and despite having them previously shut, the disturbance in light must have indicated that you were shoving something in his face, because he blinked his eyes open, staring at the black and white stripes, “This was waiting for me in my locker this morning – I got my new kit today and it seemed like someone on the team said something to the kit people, because…”
You trailed off, an awkward smile on your face. Your relationship with Joel was fairly new; not new in the sense that you’d only been dating a few months but new in the sense that this would be the first season you’d start with him as your boyfriend, all the way over in Philly. He’d also given you something similar back in September before the regular NHL season started, and as his eyes scanned over the material scrunched in your fist, there seemed to be some kind of recognition of his parallel moment with you because he pushed himself up and out of bed, taking the shirt from your hands gently.
He didn’t say much, just slowly unravelled the material. His jaw had dropped somewhere along the way, but his eyes didn’t falter as they roved across the expanse of the front of the jersey, taking in the new design, fingers tracing absently over the embroidered logos. Just as you were about to encourage him to turn it over, he did so, expelling a short breath as he took in your surname and number printed there.
“Is this your new home jersey?” He mumbled, turning to you with some kind of astonishment in his eyes.
You nodded, knowing he hadn’t quite gotten what it was that you’d intended to convey, “Yeah.”
Then, with a flicker of hope igniting on your chest, he gasped softly, “Am I allowed to see this now if it hasn’t been released to the fans?”
You raised a brow, blinking at him.
You loved him, you loved him so much, but sometimes he just made teasing him a little bit too easy. In this case you couldn’t tell if he was a little hesitant to make assumptions, or if he was just downright oblivious as to why you’d given him the jersey, but you smiled nonetheless.
“Yeah, the new kits are gonna be released tomorrow.” You continued, hoping that he’d at least catch on soon.
But he just nodded, “This is so cool.”
Right then.
“Glad you think so, because it’s yours.” You admitted, watching his face carefully.
He froze, the shirt getting a little more crumpled in his grip as he stared at you, lips parted in shock, “Mine?”
You just hummed, biting your lip to stop your grin from splitting your cheeks, and instead moved to show him the inside label of the shirt, not oblivious to the heat of his faze on the side of your face as you did so, “Look at the sizing, and also,” you lifted the bottom of the shirt up, flipping it inside out to show him the customised piece you’d requested to be added, “your name is printed on the inside of the shirt, right where your heart is. I mean, it’s not on mine, but this one’s customised for you–”
“I’m in love with you.”
You inhaled sharply, head snapping to look at him. His gaze was so intense you could almost feel it burning your skin, and despite the shock that had been painfully clear on his face mere seconds before, there wasn’t a single trace of it there now. In fact, he looked a little nervous, something that not only combatted his usual demeanour, but also the conviction with which he’d just stated those five words, yet there was a hint of a smile on his lips.
Like he was relieved he’d thrown the words out there.
You’d thought about this moment with Joel before, hundreds of times. You expected you’d feel somewhat changed by the knowledge that the person you love also loves you too, like your DNA would alter and you would feel noticeably different, but instead you were crushed by a wave of calm.
It felt an awful lot like unadulterated happiness.
“I’m in love with you too.” You said, delighting in the way his grin seemed to grow and all nerves seemed to be extinguished at your reciprocation.
Gosh, he was just so infectious in everything he did.
It kind of drove you crazy, especially when you’d come down from a big loss and you’d FaceTime him in different timezones, and all you really wanted to do was rant, but the fucker was sitting pretty in your phone grinning straight at you and all previous anger just always seemed to dissipate instantly. It annoyed you that you couldn’t control that kind of thing, but the peace and the calm he allowed you to feel even after a mere conversation was unlike anything you’d ever experienced. It was divine.
“Cool.” He nodded, his grin not dimming a single bit, even as he tore his attention away from you to the shirt laid on the bed.
“Cool.” You echoed, shrugging.
You wanted to laugh, but you held it in for Joel’s exhausted sake.
“You said there were two things?” He turned back to you, grabbing the back of his PJ shirt with his hand and yanking it unceremoniously over his head to toss it to the end of the bed. You barely had a chance to get a word in for ogling him before he’d thrown your jersey on and pushed himself from the bed to stand in front of the mirror.
You let him check himself out in the shirt, which seemed to fit him spectacularly well, “You look so good. Like, insanely gorgeous.”
He flushed a little bit, but played it off by pretending to tense his guns in your direction, “I do?”
You nodded, breathing an amused laugh at his antics, “You always do, but even more so in that jersey.”
“Did you know,” he started, throwing himself back on the bed next to you, “that you’re the only person I’d ever wear a soccer shirt for?”
You pursed your lips, tilting your head, “I don’t think that’s the compliment you intended it to be.”
“I just mean that in the sense that – I mean, of course I like soccer – but I’d only ever wear your name on the back of a jersey, or have your team on the front.” He elaborated, throwing his arm across your shoulders to draw you closer, “But thank you for this, I love it.” He said into your hair.
You turned your head, catching his mouth with your own, and enjoying the moment, before pulling away, much to his dismay, “Would you ever wear a Canada jersey?”
He paused, pulling an unsure face, “Again, only if it was a soccer one with your name on it.”
“Likewise with yours, for future reference, by the way.” You rested a finger on his chin, using the leverage to turn his head towards the TV, “And the second thing: you’re probably going to want to watch the end of this conference.”
You felt his face contort from where your hand rested on his cheek, and without even thinking much about it, you leant forward to press a delicate kiss against his cheekbone, breathing a laugh when he scrunched up his face and manoeuvred you to his mouth once more, where you placed one, two, three kisses, before pulling away to answer his question, your cheeks warm.
“They ask about you.”
He stayed still, but you knew his eyes had flickered to the screen, right to where the you from hours ago was sitting at a long table, a hoodie and cap on, looking as awkward and out of place as you felt, in front of a row of cameras and lights, with question after question being fired at you.
“They do?” He whispered, turning his head to look at you to gauge your reaction.
“Yeah. Well, kind of. They start hinting at it with the last few questions.” You don’t meet his eyes, your own attention fixated on you on the screen, and just as you went to move in the conference, there was a slither of something that caught your eye, “No way. Fuck.” You mutter, feeling Joel pull away a little from where his cheek was resting against the side of your head comfortably.
“What’s wrong?”
You reach across him to find the remote, before pausing the TV and turning to look at him with an uncertain glance, “This hoodie, I always forget it, but the zipper’s a bit broken, and if I move too much, the zip falls down.” You pulled the zip about a quarter of the way down, seeing Joel’s eyes widen in realisation, before he turned to the TV, only to see the exact same image staring right at him.
“Oh.” His lips were parted in shock, but he didn’t look particularly angry or irritated by what he saw. In fact, there was a mischievous tilt to his mouth, and before long his shoulder began to shake with an effort not to laugh at the entire thing.
You, however, had a more pressing issue, “Is that okay with you?”
He stopped laughing, turning to face you, “Of course it is. Is it okay with you?”
“Yeah.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
You reached to press play once more, trying not to wince whenever the black Flyers shirt under your Gotham zip-up was made abundantly clear. No wonder they’d started asking you about Philly and no wonder that journalist had mentioned the cinema trip with Joel.
Of fucking course.
You were thrown out of your own head when Joel cackled loudly at the screen, climbing back under the covers.
“What?” You asked, following his motions, a smile on your face, mostly because he was also smiling.
“I had no clue we were spotted leaving ‘Anyone But You’.” He breathed, tucking his hand under his head as he leant back against the pillows, looking significantly more awake than he had earlier, “Is it cool if I wear this jersey for the walk-in for my next game?”
Your eyes slid over to him, taking in the uncertainty in his features; his brows were raised in an effort to tell you that he wouldn’t mind if you said no to him. He was asking if it was okay with you to confirm your relationship.
You felt your teeth catch your bottom lip, trying to stifle the blush sweeping across your cheeks and the smile threatening to break though, “Yeah, it’s cool.”
“Awesome.” He grinned cheekily, a little smug at your failure to hide your true feelings from him, and you shook your head at the glint in his eye, “Love you, honey.”
You just blinked at him, lips pursed in a still-dire effort to not smile at him.
“Say it back.”
“Love you too, Joel.”
