Gudelio Grande, a 46-year-old man, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the shooting deaths of his girlfriend, Marbeli Castro-Garcia, and another man, Emilio Diaz Chavez, in southeast Bakersfield. The incident took place on July 21, 2019, in the 300 block of East Fairview Road. Grande was found guilty of killing both individuals in a tragic event. Prior to the shooting, Grande had assaulted Castro-Garcia, prompting her to leave and stay with a friend. Following this, they traveled to Los Angeles for the weekend. Upon their return, Castro-Garcia's friend introduced her to Chavez, and the three of them went to Rexland Acres Park to enjoy lunch together on a bench. It was there that Grande tracked them down and shot Castro-Garcia twice, resulting in her death. Subsequently, he shot Chavez, who was wounded, and then chased him to East Fairview Road, where he fired more shots that ultimately killed him. The prosecution detailed the events leading up to the tragic shooting of Castro-Garcia and Chavez by Grande. Following an assault on Castro-Garcia by Grande, she sought refuge with a friend, who later introduced her to Chavez. The group went to Rexland Acres Park to have lunch together, unaware that Grande was still seeking them out. Upon his arrival, Grande shot and killed Castro-Garcia before turning his gun on Chavez, fatally wounding him as well. The violence displayed by Grande resulted in devastating consequences for both victims. As a result of his actions, Grande was found guilty of the double murder of Castro-Garcia and Chavez. The court sentenced him to life in prison with no possibility of parole for the heinous crimes he committed. Through their detailed investigation and presentation of evidence, prosecutors were able to prove Grande's guilt in the shooting deaths of the two individuals, ensuring that justice was served in this tragic case. The community was left in shock by the senseless violence that took the lives of Castro-Garcia and Chavez, but the legal system worked to hold the perpetrator accountable for his actions. In conclusion, Gudelio Grande's sentencing to life in prison without parole serves as a form of justice for the families of Marbeli Castro-Garcia and Emilio Diaz Chavez, who tragically lost their lives in the shooting. The detailed account of the events leading up to the incident shed light on the senseless violence carried out by Grande, illustrating the devastating impact of his actions on the victims and their loved ones. The diligent work of law enforcement and prosecutors ensured that Grande was held accountable for his crimes, providing closure for the community affected by this tragedy. Though nothing can undo the loss experienced by the families, the sentencing of Grande brings a measure of justice to the memory of Castro-Garcia and Chavez.

NCIS: LOS ANGELES – “The Bear” Act Two
In the boat shed, Callen and Sam are talking to Chief Wallace.  If “The Bear” crashed into the ocean, the SEALs want to get their hands of the plane – they’ll be the first folks out there.  The Russians are probably looking too.
The concern is that the plane – which has lots of fuel on board – could be flying in the US to test if it could be invisible to radar.  A rouge faction in the Russian Air Force would be blamed if a nuke is set off.  Russians would apologize and offer restitution to a nuclear bomb ravaged US.  China would take over the world economy.  Russia would be pleased.
Nell is having Bluetooth issues.  Eric is at a Tokyo trade show.  Kensi notes he’s become far more eccentric.  He is working on a robotic security chimp.  Kensi says one monkey is enough for her and smiles at Deeks.  Roundtree arrives – he’s NCIS.  Nell is ordering him to watch the Russian consulate.  He was unaware of one – it’s unofficial.  Deeks fills him in.
Nell is yelling at someone in the SecNav’s office – she’s not getting any return calls from the SecNav.  When she hangs up, Kensi offers her condolences.  Nell is OK, her Mom has been gone for a while.  Nell’s new project is finding out what she’s supposed to do with the rest of her life. A weepy Kensi is really happy to have Nell back though Nell thinks Kensi is exactly where she’s supposed to be.  Nell gets another call.
Callen isn’t sure the plane actually exists.  Sam notes it is a big ocean.  Callen thinks the Russians could be spoofing the US radar – get the US to be on a wild goose chase.  The plane is loud but if they blew their engines, or just had one.  They could land in an area without a lot of people around under cloak of night.
Kensi tells Deeks the Russians would blow up the plane and then call in for a rescue.  Deeks is calling in to local flight clubs and aviation groups to see if anyone saw the plane.
Fatima tells Callen and Sam that LA has a lot of abandoned airfields and desert roads where the plane could land.  Fatima checked out UFO websites.  There was something weird half way between LA and Bakersfield.  Callen doesn’t want to go – too long a ride but Nell arrives with a promise of a helicopter.  She’s calling the shots so helicopter it is.  Callen asks if Nell is calling the shots, can they double their expense accounts.
Callen and Sam are looking for the plane from the helicopter.

Pairing: Dean/Cas Length: 2.5k Tags: Fluff, Mild Angst, Pining, First Kiss, Canon Divergent   Read on AO3
A special thank you to @braezenkitty for being my awesome beta <3
“You just gotta get laid,” Dean said, reseating the burger beside the pile of fries on his plate, this time with a big bite missing. “Or a decent kiss, at least.”
He crumbled a napkin between greasy fingers, tossed it to the middle of the table. Shoved his shirtsleeves up one more time as he tucked his black fed tie under the table ledge and away from the plate. “It’d loosen you up, buddy. And maybe you’d quit tryna live vicariously through horny eighteen-year-olds.”
This was because of the door-to-door canvas. The couple at the park who’d been all over each other, that Castiel hadn’t been able to stop looking at—even after the old, blue-haired lady at 512 Bakersfield Court had made a comment. “Your partner likes to stare…” like she’d never in her seventy-five years of life seen someone curious about such a thing.
“If only that was the first time I heard it, too,” Dean’d smiled back from her stoop, the sharp sun cooking them both in the stuffy Tennessee heat. A marked jab to Cas’ ribs, and a walk to the nearest pub later, and Dean was bringing it up again, because, of course he was. Why talk about the case?
“I only glanced at the couple in the park,” Cas sighed. “It’s not a recurring issue. It doesn’t mean anything.”
Dean laughed, lipped his beer bottle, and took a stout drink. “Sure,” he said. “Glanced at them. Glanced at those girls holding hands last week—though, I’ll give ya that one. I gave ‘em a couple once-overs too.”
“Dean—”
“Point is, it ain’t the first time, and you’re a damn liar.”
Cas rolled his eyes. “My being, or not being with people has nothing to do with anything—”
“Has everything to do with everything when you’re touch-starved.”
“I’m not starved. I’ve been… touched.”
Dean scoffed, swirled his beer bottle. “Sure, if you wanna count Reaper-Fools-Day.”
“I’ve kissed more people than April,” Cas bristled back. “How about we talk about what you know of touch starved instead?”
Dean snapped shut, cocked his head as a follow-up comment seemed to slip from his mouth quick. He replaced the words with a couple fries and averted eyes. “Fine,” he relented around the bite. “And?”
“And… What?”
He looked back up, eyebrows jumping. “Were they any good?”
“Who? The people?”
“The kissing, idiot. Was the kissing any good?”
Cas’ heart flopped. He slipped a hand down his beer bottle, and then back up again nervously. The motion pulled Dean’s attention in a glance, so Cas tucked the rogue thing back onto his lap instead. Fingers lacing together under the shelter of the slick waxed top where no one could see. “I don’t know. Yes?” he offered carefully.
“Are you tellin’ me, or askin’ me right now?”
“No—I mean… ” Cas cleared his throat, shifted in his chair, and listened to the wood slats groan. “They were fine. They were… wet.”
“Wet?” Dean repeated. “Cas, wet is how you describe a swimming pool… Oregon in the winter, maybe… Not a kiss. Never a good kiss.”
“Then how should I describe it?”
“No, I mean… if they were wet, then they were wet—”
“No, please. You tell me.”
Dean’s face suddenly fell wide in mock innocence. “What? You want me to describe a good kiss to you right now? In the middle of a restaurant.”
“If wet is insufficient—”
“Oh, yeah. It’s like, miles of not-sufficient-ness, dude.”
Cas chewed a smile down and gestured Dean’s way. Crossed his arms, and sat back. He watched Dean waffle before finally sliding back in his chair to think. He splayed wide, elbows up on the armrests and knees hugging the corners. His face caught the dim overhead lights, and the sun-kissed healthy pink of his skin shone back like warm earth.
He had white in the creases beside his eyes where his smile lines had shaded him from the harsh afternoon sun. A little cut of tan at the bridge of his nose where his sunglasses sat after he’d gotten sick of squinting through the reflections of every bright midday door.
“Okay, it’s like this,” he said finally, tapping an erratic finger on the neck of his bottle, and pausing to worry his lip. “A kiss is a kiss is a kiss, til it ain’t. If you’re with the right person, then the tension between you’s gonna be thick enough to cut. It’s gonna feel like you’ve got a firecracker in your gut, and that other person’s just flicking the Bic. The minute the two of you kiss, the fuse lights. That bastard explosive rips up through your chest, and pops behind your eyes, and I’m talking—screw seeing colors at that point—you’ll be so wrecked, you’ll know what they sound like.”
Castiel smiled as Dean came back in with a languid look, and a tongue tip between his teeth. He peeled forward, hovering over the table, so much closer than before, that there was only the dragging smell of his burger all tangled up in his woody cologne for Cas to breathe.
“That’s a good kiss,” he said slowly, and maybe it was Castiel’s imagination, but the sun kiss on Dean’s cheeks had spread to his ears now. “Sounds good, don’t it?”
“It sounds very good,” Castiel agreed. “Very surreal.”
Dean let a long, animated sigh into the room and it mixed happy with the gentle murmur of the busy forks and glasses around them. “Oh, it’s very real,” he said. “Just not very common.”
He poked absently at the pile of cooling fries, and sucked the salt from the end of his finger. The gorgeous smacking sound it made curled red ribbons in Cas’ stomach. “Still, you find someone who’ll give you that, and it’s the kinda thing that’ll right some wrongs. Know what I mean?”
Cas took a long drink, smile falling as the carbonation from his beer prickled reality back into his tongue. “Sure,” he said quietly. “I’ll have to take your word for it.”
Dean’s mouth thinned, and his eyes ping-ponged away uneasy. He tailed and tacked down the waitress, kept locked on her as she floated behind the counter poking something into the mounted LED screen beside the register. “Doesn’t that rub you, though?” he asked, “not knowing for yourself. Don’t you… want that with somebody?”
Cas puffed surprised, and his mouth went dry. Try as he might, the beer wouldn’t wet it. “I mean, yes…” he said earnestly, and the admission ate holes in his stomach.
“Then… how come you ignore all the waitresses I send your way? You’re never gonna get it if you don’t even try.”
Cas was suddenly, and shamefully aware of his attention at Dean’s lips, and when Dean snagged a glance at him, Cas tore his eyes away, shoved them onto the table instead. Focused everything he had on the bleed of condensation below the cool, brown bottle to his left.
“Those people wouldn’t change anything,” he said to the ring. “Colors were never meant to make sounds for some.”
Dean fidgeted the fries again, finally pushed them aside, and brushed the salt off his hand this time instead of eating it. “I guess we better head out,” he said, flagging the waitress. “Sam’s waiting.”
They paid, and headed back out into the melty summer heat. It was sunset, but the air was still laying in the city thick as a wool blanket. Shadows stretched through the streets like plastic-capped Halloween fingers, crowding up in the alleyways and turns, painting the dingy brick walls black.
Cas flared his coat to check his back pocket for his wallet as they passed a couple people with hungry eyes, but just as quickly remembered that he’d dropped his last twenty for the meal, and let the impulse to feed them drift out. Still, he welcomed the brief breeze it gave him, and he wondered if maybe it was getting time to rethink the coat. Grace or not, he seemed to be touchier to the temperatures these days, and it was starting to seem like wardrobe was becoming more important—practically speaking.
Dean shed his own suit coat as if he’d just read Castiel’s mind, and slung it over his shoulder with a hooked finger. His shirtsleeves were still shoved up to his elbows under the blazer, as if he’d put it on after dinner, distracted. “Nothing fancy,” he murmured to his feet.
“Pardon?”
“Hmm—?” He looked over quick, eyes wide, before blinking them back down. “What?”
“I just didn’t catch what you said.”
Dean shook his head. “I didn’t—” But when Cas frowned, opened his mouth to contest, Dean relented. “Oh, you mean the, uh, thing I said out loud…” He cleared his throat, added “apparently” under his breath, and slowed down for some oncoming foot traffic.
“I was just thinking about the, uh, Nichols’ story,” he said, temporarily falling in line behind Cas as a group of people passed. He touched the small of Cas’ back out of nowhere, and kept his hand there. Cas’ chest snagged. “The alibi Brent was peddling didn’t feel right.” His voice was soft in Cas’ ear, almost breathy—but brief, and when he pulled up beside Cas again, sidewalk clear, Cas grabbed a shaky glance, but Dean wasn’t watching.
“You, uh, think they have something to do with the black magic we’re seeing?” Cas asked, and his voice managed to pour out level, despite his stomach coming off that quick rollercoaster dip.
“I mean, the house was a little much for a twenty-hour a week gas-slinging gig at the local area Gas n’ Sip, don’t you think?”
It was the most they’d talked about the case all day.
“Fancy,” Cas reiterated, then, “I certainly never would’ve been able to afford that place when I worked there.” For some reason, the comment pulled Dean tight at the joints. “But I couldn’t even afford hourly motels.”
“Well… the hourlies charge more.”
Cas frowned again, started to ask why when Dean squirmed past it. “But, you’re right,” he said. “Doesn’t add up no matter how you flip the numbers.”
“So, do you suspect they’re the source of the black magic, or victims of it?”
They hopped down the curb, checking the way for traffic, and ended up on the grassy side of Spring Street, just down from their motel. Dean popped a piece of gum in his mouth, balled the wrapper, and stuck it back in his pocket instead of tossing it away.
“I suspect there’s something screwy going on,” he said, “and that’s as far as I’ve got.”
He plucked the gum from his mouth a moment later, and flicked it to the bushes, ran a hand down his face. “Sam’s doing backgrounds as we speak. Here’s hoping there’s a smoking gun in there somewhere. But, ‘til we get that, we’re pulling straws.”
The streetlamps kicked on, buzzing like fireflies in the thick night, the light falling on the street in goldweave strings as they hustled past a defunct sporting goods store—hollow bones brick and mortar now. No one missing what used to be inside.
Dean scanned the streets, watched another few strings of dusk foot traffic pass on the left while he chewed his cheeks.
“Did Sam find anything at the morgue?” Cas pressed, because the silence seemed oddly unnerving.
“No—I mean, uh, I don’t know. Haven’t talked to him.”
“I thought we were meeting him.”
Dean’s attention caught up in a little alcove at the end of the street and he gripped his jacket tighter, tucked his chin and let a heavy breath out. “We are,” he said quietly.
“Not at the morgue?”
“Um, no, he’s at the motel,” Dean said, and he sounded nervous. “Waiting to take us.”
“Maybe we’ll get lucky and we’ll find a hex bag, or—”
Dean suddenly shoved Cas’ sideways, off the street and into the alcove, shadows tangling up in the corners of it, all those long witch fingers bleeding to flat black. Castiel grunted, surprised. “What’re you—” and his throat went dry as Dean pushed him into the stuccoed brick backside of a closed Chinese restaurant, hands curling up on both sides of Cas’ jaw, but fingers combing a soft arc “—doing?”
“Nothin’, if you don’t want me to,” Dean whispered, conviction skippy at best. His body was hot against Cas. Heavy and hard. Nothing like April’s… Meg’s… Hannah’s…
The question—and it was a question—coiled in Cas’ belly like a fever dream, but an answer never had a chance of bubbling back out. Because a response would’ve been moot before it ever left his lips. Castiel’s pause was too long to be a no, and his fingers had already found their way to Dean’s waist. They were making note of the way his blue button down clung to his sides, like the tee underneath had been soaking in all that sudden, nervous heat since before they’d ever even left the bar.
And so, Dean brushed their lips together, not a hesitation so much as dipping a toe, and a rush of butterflies went right to Cas’ head without mercy. Cas whimpered without meaning to, and Dean landed the meat of the kiss, hands falling down Cas’ neck and dragging that unruly sensation through. His lips were soft and his cheeks, five o’clock gritty. He worked Cas’ mouth open with a roll of his jaw, and a flirty burst of mint graced Cas with the pass of Dean’s tongue.
Castiel melted into it, fingers curling around the back of Dean’s head as he tried desperately to get a handhold on something. Their hips rolled together. Cas stole himself a handful of Dean’s ass. Felt Dean hard against him as he moved against Cas’ thigh.
Dean’s breath went rocky, like he was fighting some kind of tightrope walk of heavy and thin, and the sound he made was dirty enough to sin. Castiel nosed him, combed fingers through his hair as Dean pulled back. His eyes fell hot on Cas’ mouth. The shadows ate the flush from his face, but not the burning heat of it.
“Now tell me again,” he whispered, voice licking at Cas ear and coming out like gravy. “Tell me again what a kiss feels like.”
Castiel huffed, tried to catch his running brain. He couldn’t help himself, hands still at Dean’s waist, he held him there. The both of them were hard, and neither of them were in a hurry to do anything about it. “I would say… green makes a helluva sound,” he whispered back.
He watched a wicked smile crawl through Dean’s face. “There it is,” Dean hummed, dragging a chill with his thumb from the skin he’d bared at Cas’ side, and chasing it to Cas’ neck with a soft breath, a kiss. “An’ I’m just getting started too.”
Then, he pulled away, the absence of his sticky heat leaving Cas bare. The gravel chewed under Dean’s heels as he headed for the street, pausing only to stoop for the jacket he’d shed at some point on the way. He shook it off, straightened his tie. “Let’s go! We’re late!”
Castiel swallowed, hand to his stomach, and peeled himself from the brick.

What’s your opinion on younger teens in the sjm fandoms? I’m starting to get uncomfortable when younger kids follow me and their age is outright listed on their description.
This went way longer than I thought it was. I’d originally planned simply giving a one sentence response, but the more I thought about it, the more I think I needed to clarify, and pin down why I felt this way. Because opinions aren’t fact, you know?
I didn’t grow up on bedtime stories where the prince saved the princess. When my mother tucked me into bed, she told me two weeks after her marriage, she cut herself. As she made the motions over her wrist, I sick feeling remained in my stomach for days, and every day my father came home from work, I would rub my palms over my arms.
My father holds that sex remains an integral facet of a marriage. Without intercourse, two individuals exist as friends. So whenever my father felt aroused, he forced my mother to have sex with him, even though she’s repeatedly told me when we’re alone she doesn’t want it—but she has to if this marriage is to work.
I told my mother that that is rape, that he’s undermining the vow to love each other. But my mother’s so broken down from her young, past self, she can’t see it. One day, she asked me, “Do you think your father’s controlling?” Not husband, but my father.
And it is my father that locked me out on the porch, and when he let me in with me blubbering “why why why”, he told me, “I destroy my enemies so completely so that they don’t destroy me.” Me—his daughter—his enemy.
I’d been doing the dishes, and the plates had made a clashing noise. “That sound is annoying,” my father had said, approaching me. “If you make it again, I’m going to start using my fists to keep me happy.”
I told him I’d report him, but that didn’t deter him. “Good!” he shouted. “Report me so that I don’t have to take care of you anymore.” My mother had watched silently, but she knew she couldn’t do anything.
Because he is controlling. He had my mother quit her job before I was born, and told her if she wanted to get one know, it would have to be as a trash can driver—because it’s work that’s singular, where she won’t be surrounded by people. He closed both my mother’s and I’s bank accounts.
My younger sister whispered to me one day when our father was home, “If this is love, then I do not want it.”
I found love overrated at this point, anyway. I identified (and still do) as an asexual, so when my father preached sex was the fundamental root of a relationship, I cringed. And when my sister, still discovering her orientation, told me she thinks she’s bisexual—well, I knew we were doomed.
We couldn’t talk to our parents—because my mother tells my father what we tell her—about how we felt.
“You’ll like boys when you get older,” my father said. It’s why when I was in elementary school, he had me sign a contract that I wouldn’t date until I was over 21. “You’ll start feeling attracted sexually—that’s normal.”
But I never did. I found boys cute, sure, but it never went further than that. And whenever my friends came out to be gay, and he found out, he’d say, “It’s a phase in life, they’ll get over it.”
I’ve never said it outright that he needed to get over his own homophobic feelings. It was not up to him to play a god and determine the happiness of others—such as I cannot let age be an aspect of discomfort to justify monitoring or controlling others.
Who was my father to lecture me on the privilege of having the chance to cut myself when he found out I was suicidal? Who was he to laugh at me when I demanded he re-open my bank account and tell me “that’s cute” when I begged for my own credit card? [Side not, just today I opened a student savings account! It feels amazing having this autonomy, even small, from him. It’s a step.]
Celaena had been told by Arobynn, the father (?) figure she knew, about the ways of assassins. When you apply the psychodynamic view, it’s no surprise she believes in the beginning violence is the answer. And in my household, when not negative reinforcement, but punishment reigns, you associate violence as a form of tough-love.
But books show that this is not the way, and it doesn’t have to be. I read TOG when I was a freshmen, thirteen years old. I’d gone through the Wattpad phase, scoffing and belittling every romance/chick-flick/werewolf/vampire/love work in my head. What did these people know about love, probably conjuring these scenes they wished happened to themselves?
But the beauty with SJM’s works is that not only are her fictional relationships unique, but herself and her husband Josh’s relationship too. With SJM’s characters such as Aelin, it took our favorite protagonist more relationships than the single one in books where the female lead + first male mentioned ship together.
In ACOTAR, on the other hand Nesta’s been assaulted by Tomas Mandray. Feyre goes back to an abusive relationship (arguably) with Tamlin. Elain’s put herself in a shell when Feyre went missing. Her characters intertwined with pieces of my own story. There are not just external challenges, but internal character development cognitively.
And meeting people, conversing with people over Tumblr—I found people just as broken, if not more, than me. You can’t dismiss these people in the fandom across all ages who have had their own experiences because of relativity.
And I find age a relative number. Oprah Winfrey was 9 when she was raped. One of my closest friends, an immigrant from Egypt, was nearly 5 years old when his house had been ravaged apart and the sounds of gunshots still ring in his years more than decades later. And conversely, I learned what a dildo was when I was in a senior in high school—and over Tumblr.
When sex-ed teachers said “don’t have sex till you’re married”, I saw that sentence as justifying what my father said—that sex is essential to marriage. But it is anything but. Trust and communication are. In fact, in social societal circumstances, what you learn in the classroom never covers this. And if you’ve been raped—how do you feel, knowing that you didn’t have a choice?
Because my mother didn’t have a choice, not when she’d be left with nothing now if she filed for a divorce. Neither did my friend who was attacked by a male when she was at the gas station and dragged away in the night at Bakersfield. Education never covers more than the basic of what has been preached for years.
For so long, no’s have been negotiated. If I tell a man “no”, he says, “But I’ve brought you coffee this entire week. I’ve made you food when you were sick. You owe me this at least.” Do I really owe him that? If I’d known his supposed kindness wasn’t hallmark of friendship, but something much more sinister, would I be emotionally manipulated into feeling like a bitch if I’d disagreed?
So when SJM gives me a badass female who goes through the stages of defeat and grief, but picks herself back up, I see a role model. I see what my mother could have been. I see what my father would have deserved—my father who negotiated my mother’s no’s, and that is not okay. “No” is a complete sentence.
It’s not to say SJM’s books prove the epitome of relationships—Aelin had intercourse with Rowan on the beach—do you know how unsanitary that is?? Do you know???
I get the age stigma, and I’m going to admit that I didn’t have my sister read City of Heavenly Fire while Jace and Clary have sex in hell—am I the only one who found that ridiculous?? Books do over-romanticize things, but isn’t that the point of fanfiction? To portray it in however you feel—more realistically?
When I first came onto Tumblr, my fics were only angst. I carved facets of my own family life into these fics, and when I received notes that readers cried and couldn’t believe I had the capacity to write this, they became more exposed unknowingly to bits of me.
I’d rather my sister read books and join the Tumblr fandom than say yes to the boy on the bus showing her a pornographic video (because boys do that unashamed here), allow teammates on our cross country and track team to smack her butt and ask to make her feel better with a kiss, etc.
Because in our circumstance, reading the stories of those, such as Celaena who survived Endovier—she’s the closest thing we have to understanding our own situation of what transpires in our house. When Sam died, my friends had sobbed while those whose parents had passed away—they didn’t shed a tear. So the former learned what it felt like to have someone you loved ripped away from you—and this empathy later on serves as a life skill.
The fandom itself has been incredibly supportive. I’ve met people from Bulgaria to Australia, and not only do I have better glimpses into the culture, the bond of SJM books have brought a situational awareness that I have yet to experience sitting fifty minutes in a high school classroom.
Because it’s too late to learn the truth of things in college. Our brains do not absorb the information as compared to when we were younger. Retention rates and all that—we’ve got to start young. There are many forms of education, and Tumblr taught me that my father is not the only type of male in the world—and that there are others like me who have thought there was no way out.
SJM’s characters have taught me self-love, that I can be more than my environment. Age knows no boundaries. What one person experienced at 9 years old is what another could have in his/her 20’s.
Age has always been a limit. I mean, it wasn’t until the 26th amendment 18 year olds and over could vote—but are there not the prodigies below that mark more informed about government and politics than someone who has only lived in their city and has been exposed to their parent’s opinions since he/she never went to college? Especially today with the Internet as such a vast source and online class to enroll it, education starts with incentive, not age.
And if NSFW posts are the issue, then we can always insert that read-below cut. It won’t prevent them from not reading, but we can always frame it in a way that perhaps is meant for these younger readers, and then at the very end, reveal that it was for such.
We can use our blogs in a positive manner to educate about sex, if that’s the root of uncomfortableness. We can be the sex-ed class that we never got. Tell me why my sex-ed teachers called people out if they asked questions, saying the kids were too eager? If we are to overcome the stigma about learning about our bodies, then we have to be able to talk about it.
The youth are the future generation, and if we keep teaching kids that we shouldn’t know things at certain ages, then we set limits on education itself. When I told my sister to not read City of Heavenly Fire, she got a copy from her friend and read it herself—which put a strain on our bond. Because restrictions show that we do not trust. And we’ve got to take the leap of faith.
I get not everyone has these tragic/pity/sorrowful stories, no matter what you believe. But personally, SJM’s books taught me that there exists some good in the world. There is redemption. There are second chances, and my sister and I struggle to fix our family.
We have to be exposed. It’s how we function. And for kids who never went through sex-ed, reading books as a source of information can direct them to look things up and educate themselves.
SJM’s books illustrated that you could find happiness without sex—a fact my father would have disagreed with. SJM showed that love is progress, and doesn’t have to be detrimental. Some may interpret her books in other ways, but that’s why it’s so pivotal we have these discussions.
Take Nesta Archeron. Lots of people has called her a cold-hearted bitch, not realizing that it’s an actual, legitimate defense mechanism. And if being a cold-hearted bitch is sending mercenaries after your sister, starving yourself to death so their father would save them, writing a letter to the Mortal Queens despite her hatred of Faes—then I guess I would be too.
But knowing me, I’d freeze up and probably would have not lived at all. Because it’s easy to dismiss characters when they do something we don’t—as if we could have done better. Sure there’s ways Nesta could have gone about and done things differently, but then she wouldn’t have been Nesta Archeron, you know? We’re dismissing her as a person, and coping mechanisms as invalid, which people use in life.
Passing judgments on characters is easy, but when you dive into the Tumblr fandom, you see people defending her (like me), and get another side of things. These debates allow for that one track mind to diverge.
Because if I hadn’t opened up to people, then I would have continued to cut myself. And then I was able to help my sister stop too. The exchange and interaction of ideas may be used to promote ideas that no longer remain up to date, but that’s why we have other users who are up to date, and use their knowledge to write about them. Because knowledge is power!!
What do you guys think? Lowkey highkey want your feedback and thoughts not just to my response but the anon’s as well.

My Vocabulary Did This To Me
Tumblr media
“What are you thinking about? I am thinking of an early summer. I am thinking of wet hills in the rain Pouring water. Shedding it Down empty acres of oak and manzanita Down to the old green brush tangled in the sun, Greasewood, sage, and spring mustard. Or the hot wind coming down from Santa Ana Driving the hills crazy, A fast wind with a bit of dust in it Bruising everything and making the seed sweet. Or down in the city where the peach trees Are awkward as young horses, And there are kites caught on the wires Up above the street lamps, And the storm drains are all choked with dead branches. What are you thinking? I think that I would like to write a poem that is slow as a summer As slow getting started As 4th of July somewhere around the middle of the second stanza After a lot of unusual rain California seems long in the summer. I would like to write a poem as long as California And as slow as a summer. Do you get me, Doctor? It would have to be as slow As the very tip of summer. As slow as the summer seems On a hot day drinking beer outside Riverside Or standing in the middle of a white-hot road Between Bakersfield and Hell Waiting for Santa Claus. What are you thinking now? I’m thinking that she is very much like California. When she is still her dress is like a roadmap. Highways Travelling up and down her skin Long empty highways With the moon chasing jackrabbits across them On hot summer nights. I am thinking that her body could be California And I a rich Eastern tourist Lost somewhere between Hell and Texas Looking at a map of a long, wet, dancing California That I have never seen. Send me some penny picture-postcards, lady, Send them. One of each breast photographed looking Like curious national monuments, One of your body sweeping like a three-lane highway Twenty-seven miles from a night’s lodging In the world’s oldest hotel. What are you thinking? I am thinking of how many times this poem Will be repeated. How many summers Will torture California Until the damned maps burn Until the mad cartographer Falls to the ground and possesses The sweet thick earth from which he has been hiding. What are you thinking now? I am thinking that a poem could go on forever.”
-Jack Spicer, Psychoanalysis: An Elegy-
I’ve been asked about this. And yes, of course it deserves a post of its own. And no, there’s no reason to suppose that I don’t love it exactly as I’d love him – somewhere deep, beyond the cadence of the sun...

Insurance company not paying for car repair that isn't my fault?
I was in an car accident. I was in the right hand side of the parking lot and I was backing out of my parking space. I was in the middle of the parking lot, and a guy pulling out of his parking space on the left hand side of the parking lot. While I was in the middle of the parking lot, the guy back his car into mine (In a hurry). After this accident happened, this guy admitted that he hit me and the accident was his fault. The police showed up and we told our stories and he admit to the police that the accident was his fault and it was on the police report. After the accident, we went our separate ways. I talked to my insurance company and they told me that since the guy that hit me admitted that he caused the accident, I had to take it up with the guy's insurance company. I called the insurance adjuster from the other insurance company and gave my statement and he told me that he viewed the accident as both our faults and would not pay me to have my car fixed. And I told him that his client admitted to the accident and he said it didn't matter. I would have to go to my insurance company to have my car fixed. I have arbitration. Also, the adjuster said that I can go through arbitration. I don't know what to do. What can I do about it?""

""Insurance problem, auto?
recently took a new job in Canada as a social worker and tried to add business coverage on my vehicle. The initial company is cancelling my policy as they do not offer commercial insurance which they claim I require. They are not cancelling it for any negative reasons but will this cancellation show up and effect my rates even though it is not my fault. I tried to add the correct insurance but they did not have it so they are cancelling me. Why would any sane young adult pay thousands in health insurance premiums to subsidize old baby boomers?
They could pay nothing and get 95 dollars less on their tax refund next year. They could use that money now to pay down credit cards, etc. Under the new rules, individuals choosing not to carry insurance are subject to a penalty of $95 per person each year, or 1% of household income, whichever is greater, beginning in 2014. Over time, the penalty increases, so that by 2016 the penalty is $695 per person, or 2.5% of household income. Even the increase in the penalty is miniscule when compared to the premium prices. So again, WHY would any sane young adult get pay thousands of dollars in premiums?""

I only have liability, so the additional insurance cost $8.99 per day, in the end I had to pay $360. Charles Manson, the infamous cult leader of the “Helter Skelter” gang, has died after nearly five decades in prison, according to several media outlets. He was 83.

Charles Manson on his way to court in 1970.
Manson was reportedly taken from Corcoran State Prison in California, where he had been serving a life sentence, to a hospital in Bakersfield last week, TMZ and The Los Angeles Times reported at the time.
Manson was hospitalized for gastrointestinal issues at Bakersfield Hospital in January 2017.
The man who would become synonymous with pure evil was in his mid-30s in 1969, when he was charged with orchestrating a series of gruesome murders. He was the leader of the so-called Manson Family, a quasi-commune. He told followers an apocalyptic race war was coming.
He described the collapse of society as “helter skelter,” a term he borrowed from a Beatles song and was found scrawled in blood ― though misspelled ― on a refrigerator at one of the crime scenes.
Manson was trying to precipitate a race war when he ordered his followers to kill seven people, including Sharon Tate, a pregnant actress married to famed director Roman Polanski.
Manson and three of his devout followers ― Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel and Leslie Van Houten ― went on trial in June 1970. A fifth suspect, Linda Kasabian, was given immunity in exchange for her testimony against the others.

The nearly 10-month trial cost Los Angeles $1 million, a record that stood until serial killer Richard Ramirez’s murder trial nearly 20 years later.
The courtroom antics of Manson and his followers captured front-page headlines. At one point, Manson carved an X into his forehead, which years later he turned into a swastika. Some of his followers held vigils outside the courthouse.
The outbursts turned volatile in August 1970, when an infuriated Manson, denied permission to question a witness, leaped over the defense table to attack the judge. Manson was wrestled to the ground before he made it to the bench, but the attack reportedly prompted the judge to begin wearing a revolver under his robes.
On Jan. 25, 1971, the jury convicted the four defendants on multiple counts of first-degree murder.
During the penalty phase, Manson shaved his head and trimmed his beard in the likeness of a fork, according to the book The True Story of the Manson Murders.
“I am the devil, and the devil always has a bald head,” Manson told reporters covering the trial.

In March 1971, the jury sentenced each of the four defendants to death. Manson reportedly shouted to jurors: “You people have no authority over me.”
Three months later, Manson follower Charles “Tex” Watson went to trial. He was found guilty of seven counts of first-degree murder and sentenced to death.
The defendants’ sentences were commuted to life in prison in 1972, when the U.S. Supreme Court temporarily banned the death penalty.
Manson was denied parole a dozen times during his decades of incarceration. He didn’t attend his most recent hearing, in April 2012.

Even in prison, Manson didn’t fade from the media spotlight. In the 1980s, he gave several interviews, including a notorious session with Geraldo Rivera on NBC in 1988. During the interview, Rivera hit a raw nerve when he suggested Manson was not brazen enough to do his own bidding.
“Where I come fro, the guys with guts, they do it themselves,” Rivera said.
Manson, apparently irritated by the comment, replied, “Come on, man, why you feel the need to get down on me? Is that going to make you look any bigger? What if I just jumped on you and beat the dog shit out of you. Would that make you feel any bigger?”

The public’s fascination with the notorious killer endured, with Manson’s likeness plastered on T-shirts and featured in comic books. His story was told countless times in books and true-crime TV shows. He was featured in movies and documentaries, including two made-for-television dramatizations of his crimes. Songs written by Manson have been sung by several hard-rock bands. Singer Brian Hugh Warner, who goes by the stage moniker Marilyn Manson, reportedly created his name by combining Manson’s last name with the first name of actress Marilyn Monroe.
Sandi Gibbons, a former reporter who covered the Manson trial for City News Service, discussed Manson’s cultural influences with The Associated Press in 1999.
“Charlie was always a con man,” Gibbons said. “And now he’s managed to con a whole new generation of people.”
Manson captured headlines around the world again in November 2014, when Afton Elaine “Star” Burton, then 26, announced she was engaged to the aging killer. Burton obtained a marriage license, but it expired and she did not obtain another prior to Manson’s death.

A crowd of reporters surround Los Angeles prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi as he leaves the courtroom in the trial of Charles Manson.
Tate’s sister, Debra Tate, told The Associated Press in January 2017 that, as a Catholic, she had “no ill wishes” for her sister’s killers.
“I would probably say a prayer for them and shed a tear and ask God to have mercy on their souls,” she said at the time.
She told ABC News after Manson died that she did not feel relieved to hear the news.
“People are saying that this should be some kind of relief, but oddly enough it really isn’t,” Debra Tate said. “While Charlie may be gone, it’s the ones that are still alive that perpetrate everything and it was up to their imaginations for what brutal things were going to be done. In an odd way I see them as much more dangerous individuals.”
Manson’s prosecutor, Vincent Bugliosi, author of the 1974 book Helter Skelter, died at age 80 in 2015. Bugliosi made his feelings clear in a 2009 interview with Time, when asked if he was sorry Manson was not executed.
“I don’t use the word sorry, but he should have been executed, and I told the jury, if this was not a proper case for the imposition of the death penalty, then no case ever would be,” Bugliosi said. “Manson did not deserve to live.”
Michele Hanisee, president of the Association of Deputy District Attorneys, issued a statement Sunday saying that Bugliosi “provided the most accurate summation: ‘Manson was an evil, sophisticated con man with twisted and warped moral values.’”
This article has been updated with comment from Hanisee, as well as additional comment from Debra Tate.

Charles Manson, notorious cult leader, dead at 83
New Post has been published on http://usnewsaggregator.com/charles-manson-notorious-cult-leader-dead-at-83/
Charles Manson, notorious cult leader, dead at 83
Charles Manson, the demented cult leader who ordered seven people killed in August 1969 as part of a sadistic plot to start an apocalyptic race war, died Sunday night in California, according to a prison official.
He was 83. The cause of death was listed as natural causes.
Manson, who lingered near death for days after he was wheeled into a Bakersfield hospital surrounded by five uniformed cops, died at 8:13 p.m. local time.
Department of Corrections spokeswoman Vicky Waters declined to identify who was with Manson during his final hours.
A court finds Manson and his ‘children’ guilty in 1971
Manson, one of the most notorious criminals in American history, was serving several life sentences at Corcoran State Prison when he fell ill. He was moved to the hospital for treatment.
Instantly recognizable for the crude, self-carved swastika on his forehead, the sadistic mass murderer was a wannabe musician and unemployed felon before unleashing his bloody rampage as the messiah of a mostly female group of acolytes known as the Manson Family.
Charles Manson died Sunday at age 83.

On the night of Aug. 9, 1969, Manson directed Charles Watson — whom he met through Beach Boys co-founder Dennis Wilson — to take followers Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabian and Patricia Krenwinkel to a tony house in the Benedict Canyon hills above Sunset Blvd. and slaughter everyone there.
The Manson Family members brutally butchered movie director Roman Polanski’s wife, actress Sharon Tate, 26, along with celebrity hairstylist Jay Sebring, 35, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, 25, writer Wojciech Frykowski, 32, and visiting teen Steven Parent, 18.

Tate, who was nearly nine months pregnant, begged for her life before she was stabbed 16 times, Atkins later recalled. Atkins used her blood to scrawl “pig” on the front door before the group fled the scene.
Polanski was out of town, shooting a movie in London.
The next night, Manson joined the same four followers, along with Leslie Van Houten and Steve (Clem) Grogan as they broke into the Los Feliz home of supermarket executive Leno LaBianca, 44, and his wife, Rosemary.
The ‘Manson Family’ murders
Manson reportedly wanted to show the group the correct way to execute and ordered the LaBiancas bound with lamp cords and their heads covered by pillowcases before the savage stabbing started.

The vicious Manson killings stunned Los Angeles and caused a worldwide sensation. Manson was tried for the horrific murders and sentenced to death along with several members of his psychopathic cult. The sentences were commuted to life when California’s death penalty was briefly outlawed in 1972.
Sharon Tate’s sister said she was among those who received phone calls informing them of Manson’s death.
“When I got the phone call at 8:30 p.m. that he had died, I said a prayer, shed a tear, stuck a flower under my bross in my bedroom and emailed Roman (Polanski),” Debra Tate told the Daily News.
Prosecutors said Manson and his followers were trying to incite an Armageddon-like race war named after the Beatles’ song “Helter Skelter.”

Manson swiped Rosemary LaBianca’s wallet with the intention of planting it in a predominantly black neighborhood after the killings, authorities said.
In a powerful letter opposing parole for Van Houten last year, Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey said Mason “intended that an African-American person would find the wallet, use the credit cards contained therein and subsequently be blamed for the murders.”
Manson and his disciples “believed the African-American race would prevail in the bloody conflict, but after winning, they would not be able to govern the world,” Lacey said.
After the war, the Manson Family planned to “emerge from hiding in the desert to take control of the world,” she wrote.

Lacey said Van Houten and her fellow followers considered Manson larger than life.

“I wish he had been a myth. All of them were all too real,” the LaBiancas’ daughter Cory LaBianca told the Daily News last year after reading Lacey’s letter.
Manson was born to an unwed teen mother in Cincinnati in 1934. His mother, an alcoholic prostitute, sold him once for a pitcher of beer to a childless waitress, according the 1998 tome “Manson In His Own Words: The Shocking Confessions of The Most Dangerous Man Alive,” written by Manson and Nuel Emmons.
He was shipped off to a boys school at one point but later ran away and ended up living on the streets, supporting himself with petty crime.
Manson follower threatened with violent death if she left cult
Manson married a waitress in 1955 and moved to California in a stolen car. They had a son together but broke up while Manson was back in jail. A subsequent marriage to a prostitute Manson was pimping also ended in divorce.
Before the murders, Manson studied Scientology and learned to play guitar during a prison stint. After he was released in 1967, he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and supported himself by panhandling during the so-called Summer of Love.
The three women co-defendents of Charles Manson were convicted with him for the Tate-La Bianca murders of August 1969.
(FILE/AP)
He emerged as a guru of the legendary Haight-Ashbury scene and gained adherents who shared his love of hallucinogenic drugs and self-aggrandizing religious philosophy.
Manson got to know Wilson, the Beach Boys founder, through followers who met the famous musician while hitchhiking. The association led Manson to fantasize about a music career and his obsession with record producer Terry Melcher.
Melcher, the son of Doris Day, expressed some early interest in Mason’s music but ultimately declined to sign with him and severed ties.
At the time, the producer was living with his actress girlfriend Candice Bergen in the rented house that would become the backdrop for the Tate murders.
Family members would later claim Manson targeted the house, and its new inhabitants, because it represented his rejection by the entertainment establishment.
During his bizarre trial in the Tate-LaBianca murders, Manson’s followers smiled and sang songs as they provided a chilling window into life as a member of the depraved group.
Behind bars since 1971, Manson was denied parole a dozen times and had his next hearing scheduled for 2027.

Nurse Killed In Bakersfield Because Of Drunk Drivers Carelessness
[ad_1]
She finished her night time shift at the clinic in which she labored and climbed into her Nissan to return house to her kids. On the way, nonetheless, she was struck by a drunk driver in a Mercedes. The driver was also a resident of Bakersfield and just about center-aged. When the Mercedes struck the nurse’s Nissan, the more compact vehicle was sent crashing into a wall. The nurse was killed practically instantly, currently being declared useless on the scene. She hardly ever produced it house to her two younger kids that night time. They are ages eleven and 8, and one of them is mentally handicapped.
The nurse took the precaution to have on her seatbelt that fateful night time final weekend, but it did not conserve her lifestyle and did not conserve her kids the anguish of shedding a mom. The drunk driver of the Mercedes, in distinction, gained minimal injuries. She was quickly taken to jail and may perhaps be billed with felony drunk driving and gross vehicular manslaughter for the criminal offense she has dedicated. The woman’s carelessness and reckless actions were being the direct results in powering the nurse’s demise, making the drunk driver liable for the loss of life of this mom of two.
It doesn’t look truthful that this responsible nurse and mom was killed in an incident triggered by a drunk driver. It doesn’t look truthful that the drunk driver was ready to wander absent almost scratch-free of charge. Nevertheless incidents like these manifest every single one working day all over the United States. It is since of these incidents like these ensuing the wrongful loss of life of an harmless victim that own injury lawyers are so vital. Private injury lawyers in Bakersfield California can enable ease the fiscal load left on households subsequent the loss of life of a liked one. They can also enable households gained the resources they need to enable them through the grieving system that normally follows loss of life.
While there is absolutely nothing that a Bakersfield own injury attorney could do to provide this nurse back again to her family and friends, a attorney can enable deliver fiscal aid to the survivors left powering just after wrongful fatalities these kinds of as hers. Lots of financial tasks are positioned on family members when a liked one passes absent. The typical minimal price tag of funeral arrangements currently is around $six,000, a sum that most Us residents cannot pay for to pay back with out good warning and preparation. Nevertheless, fatalities like that of this nurse and mom of two manifest with out any form of warning or preparation. Private injury lawyers enable their clients obtain the financial compensation they need to address these burdensome charges so that they can target their energies on mourning and accepting their new lifestyle with out the liked one that has handed on.

Psychoanalysis: An Elegy
What are you thinking about?
Highways Traveling up and down her skin Long empty highways With the moon chasing jackrabbits across them On hot summer nights.
I am thinking that a poem could go on forever.

I was going to write a post about Barack Obama's farewell address...
But then I got a puppy. [caption id="attachment_350" align="aligncenter" width="678"] This is Luna. 🌙[/caption] And I learned that puppies don't really care what your political or philosophical viewpoints are. It's funny how monumental moments in our country's history pale in comparison to the seemingly trivial milestones in our own lives. So instead of pondering about the legacy of one of the most historically significant presidents in the United States, these next couple of posts will be about a little fuzz ball named Luna.
Grace and I were driving southbound on the 5 freeway half-way to Bakersfield when it really dawned on me that one of my life dreams was about to come true. The puppy-running-in-slow-motion-towards-my-open-arms type of dream come true. I never actually thought this would ever happen, at least not in the near future, for two reasons:
We live in a 670 square foot apartment in SF. Where are we going logically to keep a dog?
Grace pretty much chanted this mantra every time we saw a dog: "We're never going to get a dog. I'm allergic and they're too much work."
And when Grace has her mind set on something, it is set (or so i thought). I was conditioned like a dog to never expect that we would ever own a dog... especially a Shiba Inu (poor temperament, constant shedding, prone to escape, etc). I thought Grace's periodic searches on Craigslist for "Shiba Inu Puppies" was a therapeutic exercise in exploring the existential futility of actually owning a dog (aka daydreaming). So you can imagine my shock when she came across a posting regarding a litter of Shiba Inu Toy Poodle puppies and said, "I want that one." I slowly turned to look at her as calmly as possible, but in my head I was crazed-frenzy screaming "You want a puppy?!?!" Grace was looking at a picture of five puppies and she was pointing at one black and tan puppy with a white spot on her head. She said (again in her own words) that "the puppy looks like she's going 'merp'."  I don't know what 'merp' means but if it gets Grace to want a puppy then I'll bet all my chips on it. Before I could properly respond, she was already 5 Google search results deep for "what is a pooshi". Fun fact: Shiba Inu Poodle mixes are called Pooshis or Shibapoos. Which according to Grace sounds very 'frou frou' (whatever that means). And the more we read up on the breed, the more convincing owing a dog seemed. Pooshis are hypoallergenic, small, have good temperaments, moderately easy to train, clean, and best of all, they're half Shiba Inu. It seemed perfect. So I reservedly said to Grace, "Hm, yea they seem like a really viable breed for our situation." But what I was really thinking was, "Chance desu ka?" The Lord hath provided this sliver of an opportunity and I was going to do everything in my ability to jam my foot into that opening and fling it as wide as it could possibly go. So as soon as Grace started thinking out loud, "Should we? Do you think it's a good idea?", I was already texting the owner to see if Luna was still available. I think it was about an hour or so before he responded. It felt more like about 35 years. And for all 35 of those years I thought for sure all the puppies were already taken. It was a 2 week old post. Puppies like that would be gone in an instant. But then he texted back. [caption id="attachment_355" align="aligncenter" width="300"] This is the definition of "heart jump"[/caption] From there it was a blur of texting, Google searching, and then finally a video chat and a price negotiation. And 72 hours later we were storming down the I-5 to pick up little Luna. That's when it hit me: "I'm getting a dog." To be continued...
