Decided to do some work on Mapleshade :) I feel like her storyline was really mangled in general, and I have a hard time understanding what motivates her from book to book since it feels inconsistent at times. I have my own vision of what a satisfying characterization for her would look like, which I won't get into in this post.

The main reason i made this picture is because i was thinking of how painful it would be if Petalkit looked like Crookedstar. Would Mapleshade have treated him with a bit more affection? Or would she just have seen Appledusk in him, who also looks like Petalkit? It's interesting...

Was Crookedstar and Oakclaw's father still deputy in Iterum? Feel like the nepotism jokes would've been cranked up a notch if so, considering Hailstar was also their uncle.

Confession time: I absolutely detest Shellheart full stop. The fandom heralds him as a fantastic father for doing the absolute bare minimum which is break up with Rainflower. Okay great, but what did he do about Rain’s abuse and negligence otherwise? Was he sleeping in the nursery with Stormkit when Rainflower was depriving him of warmth and separating him from Oakkit? Did he fight back against Rainflower’s cruel decision to name Stormkit after his disability? Keep in mind this dude isn’t a random clanmate HE IS DEPUTY OF RIVERCLAN. You know, the second most powerful cat and major figure of authority over all the common warriors? Common warriors very much including Rainflower so please pray tell why he didn’t intervene. Like seriously are you supposed to convince me the goddamn leader’s right hand man couldn’t do anything to prevent this other than twiddle his thumbs and give a halfhearted “sorry”? Fuck Hailstar too for allowing this clearly abusive woman to walk all over him and actually go along with the dumbass request to rename a child after his trauma. What is wrong with these cats? Anyway. I’m tired of people acting as if Shellheart deserves accolades and laurels for being an enabler of abuse when not contributing literally anything to help Stormkit in a manner that is actually substantial while simultaneously having more than the means to do so. I’ve seen multiple people go as far to say he’s “one of the best fathers in warriors” which is an actual joke. If you want to give credit to a cat who is a genuinely great parental figure Brambleberry is right there, acting as a major emotional support and advisor for Storm’s entire life. Also shoutout Oakheart, who managed to show more compassion for his brother than both of his useless loser parents combined.
