The Fox and The Hare

CHAPTER 1 - The Fox - Filicide

His mind felt numb. It always went blank when this happened. The smell of blood was too familiar at this point. It still stung at his eyes and clogged his senses, but it wasn’t new anymore. He felt like a shell, laying in his bed with his pillow over his ears to block out the cries coming from the next room. He knew it was painful to be the one in that chair. To take the beating while the blinking light recorded every second of it. Every hit, stab, slash, tear… It was all recorded for sick people to see. Scars littered his small body, broken bones left to mend on their own without ever going to a doctor, and he looked overall pitiful. His older sister was worse, though. Maggie had always been the one to take his punishments. Yes, he’d still get punished, but she’d take the worst of it for him. That added with her separate punishments led to her looking… like how she does. It didn’t help that she was so rebellious, always promising him that when she turns 18 she’ll break them out. Stealing them food, water, and extra clothes. She got in trouble, not just with Father. She was so skinny. She’d been denied food for a week now, her legs could barely keep her standing anymore. She could still have water, but her growling stomach never stopped. Her hand was broken when she tried to steal food for herself. He knew that soon enough she’d be fed, fed more than she can handle, as another punishment. The house smelled. Maggie’s hair was going grey early from all of the stress. Her once pretty red-brown hair had prominent grey streaks, and she had such dark bags under her eyes. Her left arm was completely useless and her eye was patched up, she had so many scars. Her broken bones weren’t like Reynard’s. His could actually be.. “Healed”. While her bones were broken so out of place, no way for them to mend themselves. She had missing teeth and a crooked nose. Her body wasn’t what it used to be. She used to be so pretty.

Father stopped bringing home victims to torture in favor of using Maggie as his personal punching bag. Reynard was always forced to watch, and listen to her suffering. He’s not sure why he’s so angry today. All he knew is that he wanted to throw up. His older sister’s blood was on his feet, and she laid twitching on the floor, slowly getting back up on her hands and knees. He doesn’t know how she could always get back up. She was strong. Despite her injuries, her useless arm, and her swollen legs, she still got up, albeit heaving and drooling. She was hit one last time with a metal bat to the side before Father left. As the door closes, he immediately rushes to his sister’s side. He was only a child, though, he didn’t know how to do this. He didn’t know how to even start with healing her. A bandaid couldn’t help this. His hands were shaking as he helps her sit against the wall. Her breathing was heavy, bruises forming on her quickly. He moves across the room, grabbing her shirt and skirt for her. She was left in her underwear. It was never anything sexual, it was more so for humiliation. Or for being able to harm her better. He struggles helping her into her clothing, her flinching every time she bends her limbs. Her dead arm was stiff from the beating it got. He noticed her torn ear, the blood matting her hair and staining her neck. She wasn’t as skinny, but he could still see her bones through her skin. Her neck was badly bruised, she’d been strangled. Her clothes did little to hide her injuries. She was breathing, but limp against the wall, eye glazed and unfocused. He holds her hand gently. He’s afraid he could break her with the slightest movement. He couldn’t shed tears, he’s so dehydrated. He’s so thirsty. Instead, he let out quiet sobs, trying to desperately contain them so Father doesn’t hear.

Then the fateful night happened. He was 13 and Maggie was 17, about to turn 18 in 4 weeks.

It was a mostly quiet night, the cicadas chirping being whitenoise in the background. He’d always been a light sleeper, coming in and out of consciousness. His sister had been gone for 3 days. He was worried, obviously. It plagued his mind, but he already spent two nights worrying himself to death, and he desperately needed to sleep. He had dark eye bags under his eyes, and bloodshot eyes. He was so tired. He would flinch awake whenever he heard a creak or a noise. But in the end, sleep overtook his body. He felt heavy. His sleep didn’t last long, though. He jolts awake when he hears a noise in the hallway. Father usually isn’t awake this late. And if he is, he’s outside. He sits up with bated breath, staring wide eyed at his bedroom door. His throat felt tight.

When the doorknob started moving, he felt as though it was moving in slow motion, but it was probably just in his tired mind. But relief washed over him, almost overwhelmingly so when he saw his sister poking her head in with a crooked smile. She walks in, followed by a girl she’s never seen before with blonde hair and blue eyes. She was really pretty. They shut the door as quietly as possible. “Rey, I need you… I need you to grab, uh, grab your things, okay? Gra- grab what you need, we can’t have t-too much that’ll slow us down, al-alright? I’ll be sure to get you.. I’ll be sure to get you, uh, get you new things.” She says, her voice croaky and slow from all of the abuse done to her throat. She clears her throat, muffling the sound with her sleeve. Reynard nods slowly, looking at the other woman who had a comforting hand on Maggie’s shoulder. She notices this and gives a pretty smile. “I’m Cher.” She says quietly, kneeling down next to him. “I’m your sister’s partner. I’m helping you get out of here, okay?” He didn’t completely understand what was happening, but he nodded silently once again. “G-Good.” Maggie smiles. “Get, get your things, Rey-rey.” He obeys her, getting up and grabbing a change of clothes, his water bottle, and other things he deemed important. Maggie kept guard at the door, and Cher was peeking out the window for anything. He puts everything into his beat up school backpack. They both look at him, soft smiles on their faces. It made his worry dispel, at least a little.

He grabs onto her useless hand, noticing how it’s been bandaged up. He wonders if a doctor did it or if someone else did. “Should be clear.” She whispers, slowly opening his bedroom door and looking around. His tension was high once again, and he grips a little tighter onto her hand, even though she can’t feel it. He gulps, anxiety buzzing inside of him. They walk slowly, making their way towards the front door. They all moved so slowly to not make any noise. His head was hurting from the amount of concentration it took just to not put too much weight on his feet. The tension was so high that it stressed him to no end. It was all going well, they were almost to the front door. His heart was racing, and his throat felt tight.

Then, he slipped. His stupid socks slipping on the polished wood floor, it was too dark to see where he was putting his feet. It felt like it was going in slow motion, Cher reaching to catch him and Maggie nearly falling with him. He hit the floor hard, and it was as if a gunshot went off. They all stare, wide eyed and pain bloomed in his arm. Cher quickly gets him to his feet and they race for the front door, stealth now out the window as Maggie works on the locks. She curses under her breath as loud, stomping footsteps come from down the hall. Then, Father turns the corner, seeing the three of them at the door. “Just what the fuck do you think you’re doing?” He asks, voice low and rumbling. He was absolutely seething at what he was looking at. Reynard felt all of the color drain from his face. He felt cold, seeing the man before them. “I-I’m… I’m fucking taking R-Rey!” Maggie yells, voice hoarse. “No, you fucking wont!” He yells, walking forward and grabbing Reynard, forcefully stealing him from Cher’s grip. “Rey!” Maggie runs at him, but gets punched in the jaw, hitting the wall hard with a thump. “Babe!” Cher cries, looking between the door and Maggie. But she stands back up like she always does. “So first you try to take my son, and next you’re a fucking dyke?!” He screams, throwing Reynard aside like he was nothing but a doll. He slams into the floor, and he can feel his shoulder disconnect. He swallows his scream, tears prickling in his eyes as he breathes heavily, scooting back.

“Cher, go!” Maggie yells. Cher looks reluctant but quickly grabs Reynard and runs out the door, carrying him as if he were her own child. But, she doesn’t run far, setting him in the bushes and standing up. Her cheeks were stained with black tears from her makeup. “Stay here, please. I’m going back in there, just stay here and hide, okay?” She says, grabbing his smaller hand, practically pleading. He simply nods, and she gives a smile, running back into the house. Of course, though, he wasn’t going to just wait here. He peeks in through the window, getting a view of the living room where it was happening. In the living room, Father was beating her harder than he’s ever seen before. He throws her onto the floor, stomping and kicking her head. Cher runs in, pulling out a gun from her purse, pointing it at him with shaky hands. All of them are frozen in place, and Cher says something he can’t hear. Father steps back a bit, and Cher lowers her guard. He takes this opportunity to push her into the wall, the gun falling to the floor and sliding away. Cher groans, nose bleeding. Maggie tries to get back up but he kicks her again, stomping on her throat. He stops, breathing heavily as Cher once again tries to wrestle him, but he flicks her away like a bug. He grabs the metal bat from the corner, swinging it at the girl’s head and she falls over, unconscious on the floor now. Maggie scrambles to get on her feet, but is swiftly cut off by the bat hitting her knee. She screams in pain, her broken knee giving out as she tries to scoot away from him. Reynard is frozen. His muscles refuse to move and his eyes can’t look away. Dread builds inside of him. Father brings the bat down on her, not holding back at all. Her arm gets beaten, breaking and the bones splintering and sticking out through her skin in a way that makes him want to vomit. But he doesn’t stop, continuing to bring the bat down onto her already limp, weak body. Both of her kneecaps were shattered, her skin red and purple all over. She was heaving out blood, it pouring from her lips like vomit. He swings at her head again, and he sees her jaw dislocate, but he doesn’t stop. Smashing, hitting, and destroying her head. She didn’t even look alive anymore, her head somewhat caved in and clear fluids coming from her mouth and nose along with the blood. Her eye was wide open, glazed over, no light in them. But, Father still leans down and twists her neck, snapping it until it's in the complete wrong direction. He wants to vomit. He didn’t even notice Cher. She had inched towards the gun while Maggie was taking the beating, she probably hasn’t seen just how bad it is yet. She lifts up the gun, shooting him in the leg and he yells, dropping his bat and holding his leg. This gives her a clear view of Maggie. Her eyes land on her mangled lover. Shock spreads over her face. There was a beat of silence, and then she screams, such a primal, gut wrenching scream that he’s never heard before. She drops the gun, completely forgetting about what they were here for and goes for Maggie’s body. But Father turns around, grabbing her and wrapping his hands around her neck. She yells, kicks, screams, tries to fight back, but the fighting starts to stop and her yells get quieter until her hand drops limply to her side.

After that there was a chilling silence. The only sound being Father’s shuffling as he stands up, putting away the bat and lighting a cigarette as if it were any other day. Reynard finally feels time unpause, and he practically collapses, legs giving out on him and he heaves, vomiting onto the ground, only his stomach fluids coming from him. He hasn’t eaten in a while. He knows he needs to run. He needs to run as quickly as possible and get the fuck out of here. He needs to go, but he feels limp, just like his dead sister. Dead. That realization sinks in, hitting him like a train. He wants to scream. He wants to scream and cry and bash his head into a wall. Why is he alive?

And it’s his fault. His fault they got caught. That hurts more than any injury he’s ever received. He breathes quickly, gasping and shaking. It’s his fault. It’s his fault they both died. He killed them. He killed them and they’re gone forever and now he’s going to be a slave to his Father and their hard work and deaths would be for nothing. His head is pounding, and he wants to scream, but his throat feels swollen and his muscles are stiff. He doesn’t remember when or how he fainted.

The next day, he woke up in Father’s car. He felt so drowsy, his vision blurry as he slowly regained his consciousness. He smelled cigarette smoke, and heard the radio on. He blinks slowly, looking up at Father, who was staring ahead. “Finally awake, brat?” He asks, flicking his cigarette and turning to him. He frowns, looking around. In the back seat were two bodies. Cher and Maggie. Cher looked otherwise fine, though she was only wearing her underwear, he’s not sure why. But Maggie… Her poor body was practically mangled, none of her limbs were twisted the right way. Her head was almost completely backwards, and her body was laid awkwardly, her bones not really holding a human shape anymore from the amount of damage. Her mouth hung open from her broken jaw, her nose broken beyond repair and her neck splotchy and red. She looked so pale. He felt sick staring at her, so he looked away. “What… What’re we doing?” He asks, looking at Father with fearful eyes. He huffs, blowing out smoke slowly and putting out the cigarette on the dashboard. “We’re getting rid of the bodies.” He says simply. He then opens his door, getting out and going to the trunk, holding two large white sheets. He opens the back door, setting the sheets on top of the bodies. He then grabs filled trash bags, placing them on top, probably to make it look less suspicious. He then gets back in the car, buckling up. “But we’re not disposing them here. That dyke’s got a family that’ll be looking for her. If we go to a different state or county, the body won't be so easily identified.” He explains this, turning the car on. He glances at his child. “And this will also be an example to you if you ever think about misbehaving.” Reynard gulps, feeling a chill go down his spine at the icy tone. He simply nods, buckling his seatbelt and staring ahead out the window.

Everything seemed to start fading away after that. Nothing felt like it existed anymore. The music sounded like static to his ears. His entire body felt numb, light but at the same time so heavy. His eyes were unfocused. He just… shuts down. This tended to happen, usually when Father brought people home. His brain turning off to avoid the emotional meltdown he’d have to eventually face. Just bottle it up for a little longer. He’s not sure how long they’ve been in the car, his mental clock just stopping for him. They could’ve been here for hours, minutes, or maybe just a breath. He might’ve fallen asleep at one point, but he doesn’t really know. All of it was foggy. The time on the road all blended together. But, then they come to a stop. The road they were on was completely barren, and it’s now nighttime, but he’s not sure the exact time, it was just dark out. He pulls in, stopping the car and unbuckling his seatbelt. He gets out, the car chiming, lights blinking. “Get out, kid.” He says. Reynard follows suit, getting out of the car slowly. He feels his tension rising, his back feels stiff, almost, and his throat tight. He grips onto his shirt, biting his lip. Slowly, Father begins taking out the trash bags. They all drop onto the concrete, and the covered bodies become more visible. He adjusts his gloves, wetting his lips and grabbing a body, wrapping it up some more with the sheet. It was harder to wrap Maggie’s body. He huffs, pulling the bodies out, and chucking them into the shallow ditch. Rey felt a bit sick. Father goes to the trunk, pulling out two containers of gasoline. And, without a word, he dumps all of it onto the bodies. “This is what happens…” He throws the empty canisters out of the way, lighting a match, “To brats that misbehave.” And he throws the match into the ditch. It lit so much easier than he had expected. The smell made him want to vomit. He bites the inside of his cheek, trying to not seem as distressed as he actually is. The fire grew huge, he could see the sheets burning and holes forming, showing the now darkened, dry dead skin. They stand there, watching for a moment. The smoke made his eyes water. Or maybe it was his emotions. If his Father sees, he’ll just say it’s from the smoke either way. “Okay, get in the fucking car, we’re leaving.” He turns, going back to the driver’s seat. Reynard takes a second. This was the last time he’d ever see his sister. He bites his lip, tearing his eyes away and running back to the car.

That was the last time he ever saw his older sister.

The next day on the news, two unidentified female bodies were found. No one came forward to the police. They were marked as Jane Does, and the case went cold.

Skipping ahead, he was in school again. He’s not sure why Father allowed him to go back to school, but he appreciated it. Even if the people there were mean and made fun of him. They called him names, or were generally creeped out by him. He had a lazy eye now, which in itself caused a lot of bullying on top of the problems he already has with it. Then he’d get bullied for his name, too, being called Rey-tard by his peers. They seemed to think it was the funniest shit, for some reason. He wasn’t all that attractive, either. He had crooked teeth and an ugly scar on his nose. Most of his scars were covered, at least. His lazy eye would dry out a lot easier, he’s not sure why, but it’d look all red and gross. None of the bullying got physical, really. He suspects it's because he’s already got a prosthetic. Oh yeah, he has a prosthetic leg now. It was real ugly looking, and he covered it with pants all the time. So the bullying never extended to anything physical. Funny though how they still made fun of him. Some of them backed down when they learned about it, probably pity, but there were still people who picked on him. If they got especially rude, he’d detach his leg and it’d usually freak them out. So he was known as a weirdo, too. It wasn’t all bad, though. He had some.. Friends? Or, at least people who pitied him. It was better than being taunted. He wasn’t a great student, either. He had bad grades from always zoning out, he’d hear things that weren’t there and see stuff out of the corner of his eyes. They were mostly auditory. Once, when they were watching a documentary for class, all he could hear was the background music. It was much louder than anything else, and it sounded like it was coming from the floor rather than the speakers. He’d hear people say his name, or sometimes feel taps on his shoulder when people weren’t actually touching him. This would cause him to say things out loud in the middle of class, and get laughed at or scolded. On especially bad days, he’d hear his sister. But not just that. Whenever he’d see a bat, he’d hear her grunting and groaning coming from behind him. He’d also hear her panting and breathing right beside him in class sometimes, or her croaky voice whispering things that he can’t make out. And on the worst days, he’ll see her. Her mangled body. He’s never had a hallucination of her in her normal state. Always her mangled, disfigured dead body. Once the room started to get covered in blood. The first time he saw her, he began screaming in class, falling out of his chair. He was sent to the nurse and it took them an hour to snap him back to reality, and another 30 minutes to calm him down. He can’t get any medicine prescribed to him because his Father isn’t going to spend money on any sort of therapy or psychiatrist. But his hallucinations were getting worse. He doesn’t really remember when they started, but they’ve been getting worse and worse. His “bad days” were becoming more frequent and his grades were dropping tremendously. He’s been trying to ignore these hallucinations, though it was really hard when he could hear and feel it all. Even if others couldn’t experience them, it all felt real to him. He knows they’re not real, but they feel so real. He even smells things sometimes. He’ll smell blood a lot of the time. Sometimes, the noise around him gets turned down, sounding like he’s underwater, and he’ll see his arm detached on his desk. No one else sees it, no one else is even looking at him, but his arm is on the table, and he can’t feel anything. He feels like he’s going insane. Maybe he is. He knows next to nothing about mental health. Who knows what the fuck is going on in his brain? He sure doesn’t.

He wishes he could tell someone, anyone, about what happened to his sister and her girlfriend. But to everyone, he’s an only child. He’s not sure how Father was able to completely wipe his sister’s identity. But only they knew about the two Jane Doe cold cases. Not many other students really keep up with the news. Plus, at this point it's been a few years. He’s about 16 years old. The case was still being investigated, but at this point many officers have moved onto active cases. The Jane Doe cases faded into the background for everyone. Just another murder. It makes him feel sick. If he tells anyone, they’d contact Father and then he’d get beaten. Or maybe killed. He doesn’t know what punishment he’d get if he ever said anything about that murder. The thought alone scared him. He wants to scream it to the world. Maybe when he can leave his father he can safely go to the police. Just maybe. He just needs to wait a few more years.

When he became 19, he had enough money from his part time job to get an apartment in a completely different state. It was still close by, the next state over, but it was a long drive and he hoped that his Father wouldn’t be that dedicated to kill him. It was really hard, getting all the money without Father stealing any of it, and most of all finding a place he could afford and finding the time to be able to move. He didn’t tell his Father about it, either. He just wanted to get the fuck out of there. He used a bus instead of his car, and he planned to replace all of his electronics, just so he couldn’t be easily tracked. Maybe he was paranoid, but he doesn’t want to risk anything. Moving into his apartment was exhausting, but he made sure to only pack some suitcases and only two boxes of his things, just so it wouldn’t slow him down. It was still such an annoyance. He only had a couch, some chairs, and a mattress for now. It wasn’t a life of luxury, that’s for sure. In his new home, he works 2 different part time jobs. One as a cook, and another as a janitor. He’s not really allowed to be a cashier or anything that shows him much. He’s not exactly the most comforting presence to be around, that’s for sure. Nor was he really welcoming. He’s no good at talking, and his appearance was a little sketchy. He worked hard, though. Mostly because he needs money to actually live, and not so much out of passion.

After two months of living on his own, he decides to finally go to the police station. He was incredibly anxious, and he was surely looking suspicious just walking into the police station while acting this paranoid. He probably looks like a druggie or something, but he came to file a report, so that’s why he’s here. It took some time, but he’s eventually sat down with an officer, one who seemed tired and disinterested. He gulps, shifting in his seat. “Okay, Reynard…” She writes something down, looking at him. “What is it you’re reporting today?” “T.. The Jane Doe cases from… 6 years ago.” He begins, and the woman looks at him with a raised eyebrow. “Uh, I know who did it. M-My father.. He, uh… he killed them.” She hums, chewing on her pen as she types on her computer. It’s quiet for a few minutes. She then looks back at him. “We don’t have any unsolved Jane Doe cases here.” She says simply. “N-No the.. The case in California. Uh… Shasta County.” He gulps. She hums. “We can’t really do anything other than contact the police department over there.” She explains. She doesn’t seem to be taking his statement very seriously. He bites his lip, nodding. She writes something down. “We’ll contact the sheriff there, and inform him of your statement. Then you can call their police department, alright?” He frowns but nods. “Alright… Thank you.”

First try wasn’t great, but hopefully the next try will go well.

Calling the Shasta County Police Department was a little strange. He paced in his living room, trying to calm his nerves. “Y-Yes, I’d like to file a report.” He says, clearing his throat. “It’s about the Jane Doe cases from 6 years ago. The, uh, unsolved one.” There’s some typing on the other line. “Yes, what do you have to report?” He gulps, trying to calm his nerves. “Uh, my Father. He killed them.” “Your Father?” “Yes.”

There’s a bit of silence on the other line, before she begins speaking again. “Alright, what details do you know about the case, sir?” This was it. He gives a shaky breath. “Uh, all of it. I was, uh, there. One of them was, uh, my sister. We were heavily, a-abused as kids.” He says, voice beginning to shake. “He, uh, was always violent. Not just with us, h-he’d kidnap and torture and kill people o-on camera. U-Uh, he’d hit us with.. Ba… bats.” He’s starting to shake a little. “H-He uh, killed her and her girlfriend a-after she tried to, uh… escape with me. He killed them and… burned them in a ditch…” There’s typing on the other line, some occasional hums. When he finishes, she speaks again. “What’s your name again? And the victim's names?” He gives their names, but he can’t remember the girlfriend’s name, no matter how hard he tries.. Again, there’s a long silence. “Sorry, sir, there isn’t a ‘Maggie’ in our system. We can’t find any birth records, either… And we can’t do much about the other victim if you can’t remember her name.” She speaks slowly. “N-No, I swear she’s the one who died!” He sounds desperate now, gripping the phone tightly. “Sir, please calm down. I suggest… you see a therapist or psychiatrist, sir. I think you’re just imagining things… And to begin with, the victim’s injuries are more in line with a car crash than a bat.” She speaks slowly and carefully, as if she’s talking to a child. “She was killed by a bat! A-A metal one!” He’s breathing heavily now, one hand clutching his stomach. The woman sighs. “Sir, I’ll get you on line with a psychiatrist.” “No-!” The phone cuts off.

He didn’t have any luck after that. He's not sure why no one would believe him. He’s telling the honest truth. Is his story really that unbelievable? He feels sick. He’s on medication now, at least. That’s one plus. His hallucinations aren’t as frequent or bad as they used to be, but it still bugged him to no end that his story keeps getting disregarded. He wants to pull his hair out, it’s so frustrating. Talking to a therapist helps, but they just… don’t believe him. It doesn’t help that he has some gaps in his memory. It was so frustrating. He just… wants to give up. He doesn’t want his Father to get away with it, obviously, but he’s so… tired.

And there’s not a lot he can do when he’s not even in California anymore. He feels so helpless. He’s tried making many reports, but none of them went through. He wishes people would believe him, and he wishes he could remember more. He doesn’t know why his memory is so foggy… He needs to remember, but he just can’t.

So, for a while… He gives up. He gets a stable job as a mechanic, and continues seeing his therapist. That should be the end of his story, right? Well, not quite… It’s not over yet.

CHAPTER 16 Preparations

You decide to take some time off work, after last week. You also start planning the wedding. Taron has a few days off also. His Mum decides to visitand spend a few days with you both and help with the preparations. You welcome her with open arms, as you sit and tell her the event that unfolded last week at the theatre. You and Christine, set off for a day of dress shopping, picking Jemma and Amanda up on the way. You arrive at Phillipa Lepley's store on Fulham Road, London. She has an incredible reputation as a wedding dress designer. As soon as you walk in, you choose the dress you want to become Mrs Egerton in. It wasn't hard to find, it is the most incredible dress you've ever seen. It's a couture, silk satin wedding dress with a tulle appliquied lace overlay, moulded over a Phillipa Lepley corset. The intricate detailing of the dress was created with individual motifs of lace embroidery trickling over the dress. Amanda, Christine and Jemma all shed a tear as you walk out of the dressing room. "You are certainly a vision of beauty my dear" Christine sighs. "Taron is a very lucky guy" Amanda says and Jemma has never seen her best friend look so elegant, as she wipes her tears of happiness.

You order Christine's maid of honour dress, and Jemma and Amanda's bridesmaids dresses as well, enjoying the champagne provided. You move on to the florist choosing a bouquet of multi coloured roses scattered with baby's breath throughout each bouquet. You feel quite tipsy as you are all shopped out, heading home. Jemma and Amanda come back to your place, Bleddyn txt Jemma to let her know the boys have moved their drinking session back to the apartment. "Hi gorgeous" Bleddyn says to Jemma, placing a kiss to her lips. Jack stands awkwardly as he shifts over to let Amanda sit down next to him. Taron stands and instantly giggles as he realises, you've been drinking. "Hello my girl" as he embraces you in a hug. You lace your arms around his neck. "Hello lover" slurring slightly. "Fucking hell, how much as she had to drink?" Taron questions. "Actually not that much" Jemma says, "but we didn't eat today at all" he guides you to the seat and bends down kissing you full of lust. So much so, everyone's is a tad uncomfortable and Christine excuses herself to have a nap after such a long day. "Ok Mum, I'll order some food soon. "Love you Mum" he calls. "Love you too son" as she bends down to kiss your cheek. "You look after your girl Taron" she says. "Always Mum" he replies.

Taron orders chinese for dinner as the evening has now turned to night. You ask where Jack and Amanda have gone. "They have gone for a walk" Jemma says. "Aww how cute" as you tuck into the Chinese food, now sober. Christine emerges from the house and Taron jumps up to make his Mum up a plate of food. "I'm so glad you're here Mum" he says, scooping fried rice onto her plate. Taron never really loved another woman more than his Mother until he met you at drama school. A tiny 17 year old with zero confidence, and the world at your feet. You look back at the two of them interacting, and smile lovingly.

You're relationship is important with Taron's Mum , as you lost your own Mother to cancer when you were 15. It's just been you and your Dad, and he raised you the best he could. "You ok sweetheart?" as Christine see's you wipe a tear. "Yes Mum, I'm perfectly fine, just a little tired." You love the feeling of having a mother figure in your life. You haven't had this for quite a while. You feel overwhelmed, as Taron asks if your ok? "Yep, tired honey" as you look into his worried eyes. "How about I take you to bed?" as he grabs under your thighs and you drape your hands around his neck, you say goodnight to everyone. "Goodnight they all yell out. They all start to get up to leave and Christine see's them all out. Taron lays you down next to you and drapes his arm over your waist passing out.

or personal writing prompt, ‘burning’ [inspired by Violet Evergarden]

The pumping within her veins was setting fire to her entire body. She felt the burns too keenly, both the ones that marred her body moons ago as well as the ones imprinted into her soul. It was too much, far too much, for a single individual to handle and yet the gods above decided that this was to be her fate.

Aria chuckled at the prospect of such, laughed at the idea that the cruel machinations of fate decided that she were to undergo a series of pain and torture. The voices of those that she has slain echoed from the deepest part of her heart, from the side of her that she - at first - wished never to see surface again.

The smiles of her friends, blood seeping from the corner of their lips. The anger of the fallen that she had slain as she did what she must.

The hopeful eyes of their loved ones, wondering when the victims would ever return.

It was loud, much too loud, within her head. The last wishes, the curses, the sight, sound and smell of death accompanying her blade. Each added to the throne of bones lying in her wake along a liquid red carpet of the blood offering they have given - whether they were aware of it or not.

How could she end this? How could she make this go away? When will the burning stop?

A cool breeze wrapped around her in a protective bubble, soothing the self-inflicted, imaginary pain as if it was there. The Hyuran woman peered up, without full awareness her cheeks were stricken with tears, and saw the ghost of two figures at her side.

Of the two figures she created, made manifest of her heart.

Fray encircled his arms from behind her, his hands resting atop of hers from where she gripped the handle of her claymore. The trembling she wasn’t aware existed dissipated upon realization, upon the comfort of a kindred spirit that she had forgotten was always looking out for her.

“‘Tis alright,” he said, a rough voice echoing in her mind in a gentle whisper. “Just a little longer. We are with you.”*

Myste, as small as he was, stood in front of Aria with arms outstretched, as if using himself as a shield to protect her. The same protective bubble she had initially felt glowed softly in patterns akin to the starry skies of the heavens above. The light in the dark, the beacons of hope in the blackest night.

“You remember, don’t you?” he asked of her, peering over his shoulder to present her with a kind smile. “Think of us in your darkest hour. We love you. Forever will we love you.”

Tears further spilled from the woman’s amethyst eyes and she felt her body ready to rack with sobs.

Nonetheless, this wasn’t the time. The threat of war loomed before her, here on the front lines of Ghimlyt Dark, and her fellow Scions were left behind, caught unconscious by whatever affliction has banished them to a land of dreams - if that’s what’s even keeping them from returning.

A magitek colossus appeared before the woman and swiped her aside, sending her flying back half a dozen yalms. While the pain was minimized thanks to the blessings given to her by those she holds dear to her heart, it didn’t stop her from coughing up splotches of blood onto the ground.

In the distance, there was a cry, one from a voice she had grown accustomed to hearing in a land of ice and snow. Simply hearing it growing closer and closer fueled the fire within, reignited by the reminder given to her by the deepest part of her soul.

“Aria!” the lord commander shouts. “Aria, are you alright-!”

Before she answered, the Hyuran woman turned with her claymore gripped tightly in her hands and Plunged towards the colossus that had knocked her away. Rejuvenated with energy and using the pain mitigated from her by the memories of those deep within, Aria positioned her body to take down the magitek armory with a Bloodspiller, finishing it off with an Edge of Darkness for good measure. The moment that it crashed to the ground was the moment that Aymeric had finally reached the woman’s side.

“By the Fury!” he exclaimed, his ice blue eyes wild with worry. “Fall back, we will hold the line.”

Aria’s lips curl to a grin — up to the challenge and not without a tinge of madness as one of greatness is wont to have.

“Nay, Aym, I would fight for a bit longer,” she answered in kind.

Aymeric’s eyes widened. “But, Ia, you are injured!”

“And I would fain accept a chirurgeon’s ministrations after this last push!” she responded. The Warrior of Light then turned towards the advancing battalion led by the lord commander, recognizing symbols marking different houses of the Pillars — including her own.

(Truly, the use of a crimson lily outlined in gold by House Lukos could not have been any more ironic for her. A Warrior that has seen and shed rivers of blood borne into a house specializing in conjury and the healing trade, representing the purity and sanctity one's faith in blessed Halone should have, was enough to make the woman feel as if she deserved not her birthright.

Moreover, their blatant renouncement of her father, a lowborn with an unknown name nor a family of his own, was enough to anger her so much that she refused in-depth dealings with them, leaving it to her elder brother.

Not that he would have it any other way, for Stryder would not suffer to have his little sister take on more burdens than she already bears. This is in despite of the fact that his sister’s innate talent for the arcane was not unlike the scion of Lukos, their late mother, which made her the ideal heiress to the name in comparison to her fool of a brother that couldn’t weave aether to save his life.)

At this, the soldiers saw her eyes sparkle — as a stout leader in her own right encouraging them with utmost effectiveness — and felt courage welling within their breast.

“One last push, fighters of freedom and justice!” she rallied, raising her claymore towards the Garlean line before her. “Remember Carteneau! Remember Rhalgr’s Reach and Doma Castle! Remember the pain you have suffered and allow it to be your strength for this assault! I yet stand with you and I will not suffer to have them take what we have reclaimed!”

The soldiers released a roaring battle cry before marching forward, the effect of the Warrior’s words giving them the courage needed to continue on this path. Before she could rejoin the main host, she sensed Aymeric’s watching eyes and he continued watching her worriedly. Overshadowing it, however, was a hint of admiration and a single question slipped his lips — one she has been asked many times before.

“All the pain that you have experienced… how is it that you are still able to stand, unbreaking?”

Aria stared at him for a moment before a helpless smile passed her lips.

“Among the greatest forces on this star, man is wont to fall to fear quite easily. It can act as a cold mistress in the abyss, seeking to freeze you whole before engulfing your very core. Yet, as Haurchefant once told us, is there not a fire hot enough to reforge the broken blades within our hearts? For where there is fear, there is cowardice. Despite this, there is in equal parts courage, Aymeric. The courage to take from this abyss the strength we need to push onward and the wisdom to know that taking more will lead us to oblivion.”

Aria’s gaze darted to the sky, her expression growing forlorn. When she had her fill, she turned to Aymeric once more.

“I believe in our people, Aymeric. As you have always done and as I know you ever will. Have faith and it will carry you farther than you think.”

Before Aria could say a word more or Aymeric could respond in kind, a voice called out to the Warrior of Light — the one belonging to her attendant, Echoes, who was part of her squadron sent to spearhead through enemy lines as an irregular unit.

They nodded towards each other and as she was about to depart, Aria raised an arm and stretched it towards her love. Soon, he was surrounded by an aetherial shield that moved as he did, surrounding him in a blanket of stars and encompassing him in a certain kind of warmth that he feels when it comes to her.

“Have care, Aym,” she urged of him. “And no noble sacrifices — I would like to meet our children, after all.”

With a wink, Aria turned her back on the lord commander and sprinted off, leaving behind a blushing lord commander before the first commander reached him.

“My lord?” Lucia called, baffled he was left on his lonesome on the battlefield.

Aymeric smiled and shook his head. “‘Tis of no issue, Lucia. I must work twice as hard now.”

Though Lucia was confused, she didn’t question her lord and followed his lead. In the meanwhile, he felt the aether sifting around him like a warm hug by a hearth on a cold winter’s night. It was just like Aria to give him a boon, unbeknownst to the others so as to not mark indications of ‘favoritism’. It was just like her…

...this method of saying ‘I love you’ without saying the words outright.

Come Hell or Helwater - Part Eight

Rain pattered against the window while Brianna sat at the table in the corner with Isobel working through a set of simple mathematics problems. She didn’t have the heart to tell Isobel that she’d mastered both multiplication and long division two years prior. Instead she worked her way through them slowly, allowing herself the fun of observing the others in the room while they thought she was thoroughly engrossed by the numbers on the page.

Brianna had found soon after her arrival at Helwater that she couldn’t help but like Isobel—she couldn’t have borne pretending she was so far behind in her studies otherwise. But Isobel’s sweetness could become grating if not for the presence of her sister, Geneva. It was Geneva who knew exactly how to push Isobel’s agreeableness to the brink, to coax a few less-than-kind remarks out of Isobel—and then offer reassurance that she hadn’t been so unkind as to require begging anyone’s pardon.

There was more to Geneva that Brianna found mesmerizing, however. Quiet moments when she managed a glance at the older girl and it was clear Geneva didn’t realize she was being watched. In those moments she looked the way Brianna had felt when Mama and Daddy had told her the great and terrible Truths of her life—first, that Daddy wasn’t going to live with them anymore, he was going to live with his special friend, Sandy, and, just a short time after that, when her mother informed her that Daddy wasn’t her “real” father. From what Brianna could tell, it was partly Geneva’s parents who were causing her to look that way, but not because they were breaking up. No, the lady Geneva was going to be married soon and anyone could see she didn’t want to get married.

But that was why there were beginning to be so many extra people at the estate. They were guests visiting for the upcoming wedding. Several older relatives of the Dunsanys had taken to sitting with Lady Dunsany in the main sitting room while the younger guests preferred to gather in the drawing room. It was in the adjoining library that Isobel was giving Brianna her lessons but the door was kept open so Isobel might pop in and make her necessary appearances every so often. Brianna thought Isobel perhaps preferred the quieter library to the group in the drawing room.

Brianna enjoyed peeking up at them through the doorway. She could only see a portion of one setee and a fragment of the floor to ceiling windows behind but Geneva was partial to planting herself on that setee and as the bride to be, she frequently had company beside her—usually one of the two British soldiers who had startled her mother in the forest that day they’d arrived. The younger of those two often turned to glance through the same open doorway at her, which always made her flush and look down at her paper. Or was he looking at Isobel? Brianna peeked up to see Isobel looking flustered as well, no doubt aware of the soldier’s piercing gaze.

Even if Brianna could convince herself that the young man was paying his attentions to Isobel, all it took was Geneva seeing her sister’s blush to throw a wrench in Brianna’s plans of going unnoticed.

“Isobel,” Geneva called rising from the setee and floating to the door. “Aren’t you going to join us? As the sister of the bride it’s part of your duties to help me entertain my guests,” she teased with a playful giggle and glance over her shoulder. “John, Hal, won’t you help me coax Isobel into joining us?”

Isobel sighed but smiled at Brianna before pushing herself up from her chair at the table. “You’re doing wonderfully,” Isobel assured her. “Keep working on this set of problems and I’ll be back shortly to check your progress.”

Brianna nodded and then watched as Isobel glared at her sister who stood in the doorway with a satisfied grin on her face.

“Really John, you must ask Isobel about her latest obsession with playing governess,” Geneva continued, the conversation still drifting in for Brianna to overhear since the door between the rooms remained open. “It’ll be something to keep her occupied when she no longer has me around to entertain her.”

Isobel spoke too quietly for Brianna to hear but from Geneva’s subsequent, “Oh come, I’m only playing,” she assumed the young lady had rebuked her.

“It is the curse of younger siblings to always be tormented by the older,” John remarked, lightening the mood even as he too scolded Geneva.

Brianna set her pencil aside and leaned forward over the table, straining to see if she could catch a glimpse of them but they must be standing near the fireplace. The rain outside was unrelenting in a spring that was already slow about taking root. That was one of the things about this time that Brianna found most frustrating and quietly terrifying—how cold it was without proper, modern heating and how afraid she was that she would get too close to the hearth or that she’d knock over a candle and go up in flames.

“I know Isobel’s attempts to improve the poor child arrive from the best of intentions,” Geneva assured the others and Brianna could hear the eye roll in her tone. “I just think that when it comes to the staff and their families, it’s not our place to interfere. They have their lives and we have ours.”

“And the fact that their livelihood depends upon our whims doesn’t matter?” Isobel challenged more vocally, clearly surprising the others.

Brianna rose from her seat and tiptoed closer to the door to hear better and maybe sneak a better angle through the door so she could see them while remaining hidden in the shadows. If she was truly lucky, there’d be a mirror on one wall that would let her watch their reflections—she couldn’t remember if there was a mirror in the drawing room though.

“So long as they’re paid for their services, I’m not sure I understand to what you might object,” the older one—Hal, Geneva had called him—said gently.

“They require decent pay to support their families,” Isobel agreed, “and sometimes they’re compensated in other forms—for instance, housing or their meals—but what about their other needs, especially for their children? Is it not our duty to guide them towards being productive members of society where their parents are either lacking the means or the opportunity?”

“And what makes you think the Mackenzies are lacking the means and opportunity?” Geneva countered. “Did you ask them if they wanted it when you asked for their permission? Shall we ask the little lady now?”

Brianna panicked for a moment as she heard Geneva’s footsteps crossing toward the door but her instincts quickly kicked in. She started walking for the door herself and nearly collided with Geneva.

“Sorry,” Brianna muttered, backing away. “I was just coming to ask Miss Isobel if she might excuse me to go help my mother. Miss Isobel should be spending her time with your company, not with me just now.”

“I don’t mind at all, really,” Isobel insisted but Geneva made a dismissive gesture, keeping her eyes on Brianna.

“The child is quite right, don’t you agree, John? It’s terribly rude of Isobel first to ignore your presence and then to ignore her young charge’s. If she had a nursemaid, we might turn her over to so she doesn’t inhibit her mother in her work. Should we engage one for her, Isobel?” Geneva asked, looking over her shoulder at her sister. “Would that be more of the means and opportunities that our hired servants are lacking? I suppose we’ll just have to keep an eye on her ourselves then. Come child,” Geneva turned back to Brianna with an overly sweet smile. “Join us in the drawing room and we’ll try not to bore you too terribly.”

Brianna stood her ground, staring expressionlessly at Geneva.

“Geneva…” Hal said quietly, stepping toward her.

“Quiet little thing, aren’t you,” Geneva murmured, her attention still fixed on Brianna. “Do you speak at all?”

“I’m ten, not two,” Brianna replied, unamused even as the color began to rise in Geneva’s cheeks. “And my mother always told me if I didn’t have anything nice to say I shouldn’t say anything at all. I’d rather spend my time somewhere I can have a conversation. Thank you, Miss Isobel, for the lesson. I’ll see myself out.”

Brianna kept her ears pricked for their reactions as she turned on her heel and went to the table to retrieve her things before exiting through the door at the side that led to the servant’s passage and from there down to the kitchen. She heard one stifled chuckle (Hal) and Isobel’s gentle, “You were the one who provoked her.”

The sound of a slight commotion drew most of the others back into the drawing room—a footman announcing the arrival of another guest.

“Daniel,” Hal exclaimed in joy. “It’s a miracle you made it in this weather. You ought to have stayed at your inn until it cleared.”

“If he did that he might not have arrived in time at all,” Geneva declared, brushing away the awkwardness of being put in her place by a ten-year-old girl. “The way it looks now it could rain through the next fortnight and my wedding’s one week away. He knew I’d never forgive him if he wasn’t here.”

“Always said Gordon was like a brother to me so I see it as my brotherly duty to make sure everything stays on schedule,” a new voice chimed in.

“Well you might’ve been as a brother to Gordon but you’ve hardly been a brother to either of his sisters,” Geneva objected with a laugh. “You haven’t written a word to either Isobel or myself in over a year.”

Brianna snuck one final peek through the door to the drawing room.

John, the soldier who had come walking through the field with her mother that day, was the only one watching her as she made her exit.

“Bree,” Claire gasped as her daughter barged into the cottage, dripping wet from her brief run through the rain from the main house. “For heaven’s sake, what are you doing here? I was going to fetch you back after your lesson was finished. You’re soaked to the bone.”

“Well you might wind up back there later treating their latest guest. Sounds like he rode a ways through the rain and I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes down sick from it,” Brianna said, shaking her hair like a wet dog.

“Sassenach,” Jamie called from the cottage’s back entrance. “Do ye have anything hereabouts we could eat? Thought it might be nicer to have our midday meal alone together rather than trek through the muck to the main house. And as Bree’s occupied there with Miss Isobel…”

Claire cleared her throat loudly soon after he began and spoke over him, “We’re in here, Jamie. Bree’s just got back too. We hadn’t addressed the subject of lunch yet.”

Jamie came around the corner, his face pink and dripping with the rain that had soaked his hair.

“Bree,” he said with a smile. “Is it wet enough for ye out there? I ken I must look and feel like a half-drowned cat.”

“Well it is raining cats and dogs,” Brianna remarked without enthusiasm.

“Why don’t you fetch some dry things from your trunk and change in our room,” Claire offered.

“I suppose we won’t be using it after all,” Jamie whispered in her ear as he brushed a kiss against Claire’s cheek.

“I had brought a leftover side of ham from the house after tending the cook the other day,” Claire continued, ignoring Jamie, “and there’s cheese I had set aside as well. We’ll see what kind of meal we can make with that and maybe it will let up enough tonight for a larger meal with the others at the main house.”

When Brianna had closed their bedroom door behind her to change, Claire turned into Jamie’s arms and stood on her toes to give him a kiss.

“When the wedding’s over and their guests have gone home, things will calm down enough that we’ll have a little more time for ourselves,” she whispered, pulling away from him as his hands drifted down to her backside. “Not just the two of us, but the three of us.”

“Except for when we have time just the two of us to get back to work on making that three of us into a four, aye?”

“Aye,” Claire smiled and blushed. “Though by my watch we’ve spent a fair bit of time working at that already.”

Show off your OC: Continued

One of my fave scenes , is one where my OCs come together. ( Shea,Jade and Hera are all there along with some other long running OCs)

Those who sat there now where no ladies of the court but the knights they had always been, the warriors of their home.

Hera sat hands folded before her watching the sisters GreenStone talk. The room was hushed, the looming threat of the unknown hung over them all. They had all heard the warning, they had all been in a sense debriefed.

Battles were never easy. War was not something to be taken lightly. But she had never seen Shea so tense about anything. Even when they all faced off against the Cutlass brothers, angels and dragons Shea had been nothing but confident. Now she looked worried.

The D word had been spoken. That this battle, this war would end with death. Hera looked up and down the table. True they weren’t all battle hardened. Some had only seen a few battles and never a war. But many of them had seen war. She knew none of those there would go lightly.

Shea turned to address the group. Hera looked over the elf. Shea was a short thing. Five foot five maybe. Her hair was dark blue with many streaks of silver through it. Her eyes were eerie, pure silver with no sign of black iris.

She wore what Hera considered basic battle wear, but the mage now even bore a sword that she had not carried in some time. In fact everyone woman there carried a weapon, something physical, more than magic or mere power. Even she was armed to the hilt as if the battle could begin at any moment.

Shea spoke. She gave them no pretty words. She spoke to them like a general would. Yet Shea was hardly what most would see as a general. But As Hera watched her she knew that was just what the mage was. She was the leader of this rag tag group. She was the one here with all the power. No matter who sat there at the table, no matter their age or back ground it was Shea they all would follow. And it was the mage who was the most willing to give up her life.

"I am going to see Issy this day, as soon as I hear from Radella about the children. You did tell her I was coming yes?"

Hera nodded. "Yep. Jade and I are going to head out with some of the soldiers." Shea nodded. "Go then, be careful. The men should return by dusk with news of the reinforcements."

Hera double nodded to that and left the room. Hera Fyre had seen battle and war. Blood shed and death were nothing new to her. Perhaps even the well worn battle ready fighters could need to beef up their skills for what ever or who ever was coming.

There was something about training that made Hera think of old times. Maybe it was that she had been through all these paces before. Or maybe it was knowing what battle and war could bring.

Now as she sat in the shade of the forest after running Cadaria through every pace and every training method both she and Jade could think of Hera sat alone eyes closed.

She had left ashes in her wake. She had both seen and dealt death. And now there was another war coming. Shea had asked her a simple question. Has she given Issy the pendant. The answer was yes. Hera had found the will and way to do just that.

Thinking back to that night Hera opened her eyes. She had stated that Shea had wanted Issy to have it. But in in all truth Hera had wanted it too. To reach out to that one old ally Hera could always count upon.

Looking across the open glen now she watched Jade sparing with some of the soldiers still even as the day lingered on. .. Hera had watched as mounted men and women came towards the woods and disappeared within. The rulers of the kingdoms of Edhel Ndor, Crendia, and Sim'Tahl. They had been gathered and spoken to but now they all came led on by the silent drums of war. Issy had taken the pendant of alliance with out question. It would become a beacon.

Made of elven silver , a tree with a dragon on the left and right and four gems among the trees branches. One for each realm of the alliance. "A token. " She held out the pendant. Hera had laid down just what it did. It opened up the allied realms. But also it would give Shea something to pull from. Hera leaned back upon the tree she sat under. . Her allies were readying for battle and all she knew was that death was coming. She had long ago vowed to die on her feet, to die sword in hand. She had always figured that death would come in Rhydin. Now she was not so sure ~~~~

"Ready as we can be" Jade spoke looking down to Hera. "The allies are coming." Jade looked over her shoulder towards the Dark Enchanted Woods. "Salice will begin speaking to them."

"Shea’s gone to Rhydin." Hera felt the pulse there at her neck.

Jade nodded. "The mage is very busy.""She's hiding something."Again the lupine nodded as she shifted in to the shade. "Shea does what she feels is best."Hera chuckled at that. "She's reached out to old allies. And its not to throw a party this time."

Jade lowered her self to sit beside the fire elf. "She's not the only one who keeps secrets." Jade nodded towards the castle now slowly being hidden by a slow mist.

Hera nodded. "The daughters of the alliance will have powerful allies."Jade smirked. “I always figured I would die fighting some amazing battle in Rhydin.”Hera looked over at the lupine. “What ever is coming it wont be our end Jade. You and I both know the ways of war.” Jade nodded. “Yes we do, but we also are fond of throwing our selves in to the fire, for others.”

Hera smirked. “If it comes to that, then we will all burn together.”That is the way of the alliance.” ~~~~~ Turning she looked to Shea. Though the mage was inches shorter that Hera herself. The firechild felt as if the mage had grown a full ten feet. "Its time isn't it?"

Shea looked off towards the castle and nodded. "There is something I must tell both you and Jade. You wont recall it after the battle. But I feel it is only right to tell you."

Hera leaned on the near by tree and crossed her arms over her chest.

" I have sensed death in this battle, but I do not think it will be a normal death. When I took my heart to the Sacred Tree he saw all that I have seen. I sent the children away to keep them safe. And I have sent the men we all love away. Back to where they came from. Those who did not already go with the children to protect them. At the end of this battle none who are here save the very powerful in Edhel Ndor will recall parts of our alliance.Memories of love and history's will fade. We will not forget our children, but it is the men we love that we are all destine to loose. " Shea looked off towards the misty castle. They were all to loose, her sisters as well. "It is the price of this war."

"All of us?" Hera asked calmly.

"For the few men who went with the children to protect them, their memories may fade. I can not see it for them. For those I sent away they will forget, it will not go all at once, they will not forget their children. It is a breaking of magic. "

"They went willingly?"

"No, nor did any of the others. It was not easy for any of them. In the end it may come that magic rips apart the bonds we have made. That would mean all of them, every last one."

"You said we wont recall this after the battle?"

"Those of great power will. And though you are of great power Hera Fyre. Your memories of what was will be washed away. At the end of the battle, it will feel as if they have died a honored death, and be washed from minds. "

"But you'll know.""I will. Radella, Willow and Anarya. None else. For all else there will be mourning. It is a burden we must all bare."

"Why tell me this if I am going to forget? ""You have an hour, to gather anything you may need from their lands, your old homes and say goodbye. After that The portal will close, perhaps forever."

Hera nodded. She had most of her things with her, she had taken them to GreenStone days ago. But she would go she knew to say goodbye

Hera nodded once more and headed off to the closest portal. ~~~ Fog of War

"There!" Sira's bow fired off, quick and fast as lightning. Hera looked and saw the fog roll in over everyone. "Atara!" Aiden's voice cried out and Hera saw him fade in to the fog as well.

"Be ready!" She's voice called out. Hera drew Alfirin from her back and saw it begin to glow. Though she could see none of her allies she knew they were there.

"Hera." A voice, deep and rich and filled with the past. Turning Hera looked in to the eyes of Byron Druconis her former guild master and head of the Haloisi Akh'Velahr stood before her, as he had years ago long before she had killed him and his fellows.

"Byron." Hera moved in to her defense stance ready now to face his ghost and what ever else or whom ever else he might have brought with him.

~~~~~ Battle and Blood The Haloisi Akh'Velahr were not to be trifled with. They were assassins of the finest order. Yet Hera Fyre had been the ruin of them all. They had sought their own destruction, the moment they crossed her.

She recalled the day fully still. The day the woman she now was was born. She had not been born to blood and war. But had been forged as much as the twin blades she carried. There were few better at it than she had become. She wasn’t arrogant, or fool hearty. She knew the risks of war. She smirked now at Bryon. She was not the same woman who had killed him so long ago. That woman was strong, this one before him now was forged through fires of hell, twice as strong.

There were somethings a warrior like Hera could never forget, or forgive. What Byron had done would damn him to hell for all time as far as she was considered. Alfirin was a solid reminder in her hands of what and who she was fighting for.

Not only her trusted allies here. But for herself, and for those allies she had sought so long ago.

Though she knew the specter before her was real, as real as he had been all those years ago. She knew she could defeat him. It would bot happen as it had before. For they stood on green grass and not within the confines of the old Manor house. She had been young then. So young. But the names of those who she had killed for The assassins would always remain with her. If they had been worthy of their deaths, or if it had always been a joke, some sick joke. Hera Fyre would never know. She could live with it. She had made death her art and in the end. Divine vengeance was hers.

Partenia Harosi,Merrick Ridgley,Carica Rhiamon,Mya Sorin,Dagnar Sirllie,Vana Herie,Kunne Lirie, Jathrn Loremoren,Lady 'Krsha and Andaiti had all died by her hand. One by one she had taken them all down. The might house had fallen and Bryon had been the last one to fall.

It made perfect sense to her. He embodied everything she hated. And everything she fought not to be. Hera would never forget the day she stood there in that burning manor. Set upon killing the man who had taken everything from her. But he had also given her the training that would end him. Hera had never been one to believe in destiny. That was until she met a certain wind mage. She did believe in honor and justice. He had spoken to her then, but the wraith before he wasted no words. He went right in banishing a weapon that too had burned.

So she stepped in to combat.

~~~~ Flickering Flames Remembered What is an assassin? But someone who kills. One death, then another, then another. The blood washes over the blade, the hands, the soul. It changes one. No matter if that death is justified.

An assassin is never truly done. No matter how removed from that life they have become. If there is one never to cross it is the assassin. The next is the warrior. crossing someone who is both. You will be lucky to leave with your life. Byron Druconis, had never been that lucky. Hera looked at him now, the form the specter of war had taken on. Hunched over already bleeding. She was no longer the same woman she had been all those years ago when she had walked in to his formal office while the guild house burned behind her. She was stronger now than she had ever been.

Alfirin had cut a burning line in his flesh. Meneluin had scored him along the back of his leg. He had tried and failed to use that gun on her once more. Now it lay a melted pile of molten metal in the green grass.

Bryon was hunched over , coughing up blood from a well placed kick across his jaw. When he looked up at her and started to rise he held another weapon. A dagger. He had never been the best at hand to hand combat. But as he rose she saw his form and face shift, to take on that of another fallen member of the once mighty band of assassins. Carica Rhiamon, master of all things you could throw as a weapon. Daggers had been her favored thing. She looked as she had, short cropped green hair, eyes like daggers themselves.

I had killed her with a poison dart, and done it with flare. The memory was not one I minded having. That dagger flew, a lesser warrior might have been caught by it but not Hera Fyre. ~~~~~ Done, Not Over

Hera knelt on the grass. She spat blood from her mouth and looked up to the fog that surrounded her.

She had never guessed she would see so many old ghosts. Perhaps it had been a long time coming. Rising slowly to her feet. She knew she was alone. At last alone. No ghosts or specters came through the fog. Theghosts of the past were gone. She had fought them and survived. Taking a deep breath Hera felt a moment of peace.

Her body was bloody, but wounds would heal. Around her the fog stayed, yet she could hear the sounds of battle. The clash of blades, the call to magic. Hera stood there alone, and swore for a moment she heard Jade scream. "You have done well, Hera Fyre daughter of great Haloisi ."Hera turned,looking for the voice.

"Be at ease."There standing in the fog, was a woman. She was dressed in gray robes. "I mean you no harm." Hera looked to her, she was slight of stature. Her skin was tan. When the hood of the cloak she wore was dropped Hera was shocked. She had heard much of the woman known as Cala. But had never seen her, nor met her.

"Your Cala." The woman nodded. "You are wise. Yes, I am Cala." There was a scream, then the sound of magic, that pieced the fog. "The battle wages on, for the others, yet be at ease. Not many will fall. And those that do, shall be remembered for all time."

"We were told you were gone. Why don't you stop this?" "I can not. It is the realms destiny. " "Destiny is cruel." "Yes, sometimes. But at the end of all this one and all shall come to see it was for the better. Take my hand, I will allow you to see what only Shea has fully seen."

Hera took a step forward and with out a second thought touched her palm to Cala's. Hera felt the utter power that ebbed through the woman. She saw flashes of the battle, of her closest friends and allies. Of those who had already fallen. Then of the grim future that would await them all should this battle never have come.

She stood with Jade at her side. The lupine stood in her half human half wolf form.Beside them stood Aiden and Sira. Before them a mass of graves. All with names she knew. They were battled forged, and blood soaked. Yet some how Hera knew, they were all that was left. Turning in the vision she saw GreenStone Castle bathed in darkness and fire.

When Hera opened her eyes again she was kneeling before Cala. "This is what must happen, Shea saw that end as you did. All lost, few to remain. The kingdom gone. It is less you all will loose now."

"My memories." Hera let out a low sob. "It will be up to Shea, as to what you recall. But know this, even if you recall everything, nothing will change. Though you may see those you knew in Rhydin. They will never know you, even if you know them. Your destiny lies with another Hera Fyre. " Cala took a step back. " Rest now, you will need your strength in the days to come."

Hera stayed there kneeling in the grass, the fog wavered and Cala was gone. Then there was a call through the fog. "Atara!" That was Aiden's voice. Between Blood and Fog

Hera Fyre had seen much in battle and war.

Hell Hera Fyre had caused much in battle and war.

But it had been a long time sense she felt helpless.

Standing there on the edge of the fog as it drifted away looking in at the slight wind mage. Shea floating there in mid air. She was bloody, beaten, starring off in to the beyond with a gaze of pure silver that even made Hera shiver. It was just too eerie.

"Shea!" Hera beat her fists upon the magical barrier that kept her from rushing to the mages side. A moment ago, Hera had felt such deep pain but now, there was this peace. This utter peace even as she starred at the broken wind mage.

There was no more pain. No more wonder if that lover, friend, or ally had fallen in battle, only sure known peace that all was well. Attention turned again to the fallen warriors.

Attention turned to Shea. The elements that wiped about her.

As the others came to stand there at that barrier. Hera could see their wounds, but they seemed to pay them no heed. Salice cried for her sister, Aiden shouted. Jade had come limping up and stood there looking utterly defeated. No matter how they shouted Shea did not hear them, nor seem to even see them. No matter how they pounded on the barrier it did not give way.

The elements that had been dancing there forged each in to its own sword, made of that element. One each for wind, water, earth and fire. Each of the four elemental swords floated around Shea. Another was forged then of the spirit of the realm. Two more then forged one made of pure darkness, one of pure light. They floated there, each pulsing with pure power. Seven elemental swords conjured by the magic of the realm.

Then one by one each sword fused together. The first four of the elements, wind,water,earth and fire and spirit became one great sword. The last two of darkness and light fused together, then became one with the great sword forged of the elements. Now the one great sword floated before the mage. "What in the hell?" Hera looked to Jade who leaned heavily on to her left leg. Then to the horrified Aiden and Salice who stood there watching. They could do nothing.

Hera looked back unable to tear her eyes away from Shea. Ten it happened. That sword forged of the elements spun up and dove in to Shea's breast. "NO!" Aiden pounded on the barrier and he was not alone. Hera beat her fire born fist tot it. Jade raked her claws across it. Little drop lets of water danced down the invisible shield as Salice threw all her magic at it, yet still it did not waver.

The others had gathered and pounded on it with everything they had, yet it did not break. "Atara!" Aiden cried. He beat on the barrier, his hand bloody. "Shea!" Hera cried out and noted that Jade joined her in the call.

"Seler!" Salice voice was joined by Shavyn's. But none of them could do anything. They stood helpless on the outside of tha barrier that held them at bay. ~~~~ On a Wing and A Prayer

Hera knelt looking down at the figure who lay in the grass. Blood soaked,battle worn. So small. Hera had never judged Shea by her height, as most could and often did. The elfess was short and slight, and thus most would look upon her as see a fragile thing.

Hera had seen beyond it all. Ever before she trusted the elf with her life. Now kneeling there while others begged for Shea's life to be saved. Hera thought the elf looked very small indeed.

Radella stood looking older than Hera had ever seen her look. Aiden wept in the grass. Salice and Shay's tears ran freely. Beside her Hera saw Jade give her a glance.

The had both known war and battle for a long time. Both had seen so much bloodshed. This was the cost of battle.

"I can not." Radella said with a solemn look. "Radella, she will die."Salice pleaded as well, tears streaked the queen's face.

"It is her destiny to die. Shea knew the costs." The elder looked upon Shea. "She knew far more than she told any of you. She had foreseen great death in this battle."

"Its true. Cala came to me." Hera stated, her mouth felt dry and gritty, she tasted blood upon the tip of her tongue. "She came to me as well." Jade muttered softly. Hera spared a glance to the lupine. Then looked back to the fallen Shea.

"We need to take her to the counsel house to the healing room. I will tend to her wounds." That was all the wise woman could offer. There was a few slow nods and Jade, Aiden, and Hera lifted the fallen mage off the bloody ground and walked with her between them.

As Hera backed out of the healing room, she felt the pain of the loss.

Shea's loss. Hera shook her head and slowly let down her hair. How much loss could they all bare? Shea had died before, and been brought back. Yet this time it seemed very different. Magic was powerful, but perhaps not that powerful.

As the fire elf stepped outside she saw Jade standing against a tree. The rest of the alliance was there..Hera blinked. Someone was missing. She lifted her hand to the pendant at her neck. The feeling flashed away as soon as it came. Salice stood with Shay. Aiden with his arms tightly around Mila.

They waited. Hera walked slowly over to Jade. " What did she say to you?"ade looked over to Hera. Even in battle worn mode the fire elf was still lovely and fierce to behold. "She sent in a messenger first. Elear."

Hera leaned softly beside the lupine. The name didn’t ring any bells with her.

"He was an ally of mine, long ago, and long dead. She was there then. I thought at first it was Shea. Yet then I saw her fully. I could barely get off the ground." She looked now to her bound leg. "She said that she was not there to hurt me, she told me the battle for me was done. She gave me a choice.."Jade rubbed the side of her head. "I don't remember what it was.." She shook her head, there was something missing. " Then suddenly it was like she was gone. I heard Aiden's cry and then I saw Shea."

Hera nodded softly. " I thought it was Shea too, when Cala came to me. That same essence of power. She told me I had done well. To be at ease. She spoke of the realms but.." Hera ran her hand through her hair. "There’s something missing..some part of what she said that I cant recall." Jade nodded. "Powerful magic's.""She came and went so quickly. I felt a moment of peace. Then I saw Shea."

Jade sighed. "We both have seen enough war to know that Shea may never come back. Even with all her power, what happened out there." She lowered her eyes to the ground. "It was like nothing I have ever seen or felt."

Hera agreed a bit silently. Looking back towards the counsel house she could only hope and pray.

Passage of Time

How does an assassin mark the passage of time?

Hera had often wondered if she had been born mortal, if she would have seen so much come to pass. Would she have known the powerful friends and allies she now knew. Would she have loved and lost and some how remained standing tall.

She recalled every moment of the battle, every moment before it. Those they had lost to magic and those who has passed on. Though she had been told she would forget, she recalled everything.

Sitting again outside the great counsel chambers looking up and the waxing moon, Hera wondered how many more moons would pass before the mage who lay still as cold death within those walls awoke?

Would Shea awake at all? And why did Hera recall everything? Rising to her feet she walked towards the building and inside. Stopping when she heard Radella and Jades voices as they carried."I remember." Jades voice was firm, yet there was that pitch to it that had those undercurrents of, wonder and fear. " I remember everything." Hera could almost see Radella rising, crossing to the lupine.

"Shea came to me. She spoke of the battle, the war." Jade continued."She came to me and told me everything, showed me. So many would have died, so many. Its gone, all of it. What do I do with this knowledge?"

Hera wondered the same damn thing? How do you let go, when you recall everything as if it were yesterday?

"Take a moment Jade, take a breath. I was Shea's choice to take on so much. In time when or if she wakes, we may come to understand why it happened. But for now. Grieve and forget. Your not the first to come to me. Salice and Shay recall much as well. It seems the power has deemed a few to recall and others to mourn, forget and be at peace." Radella's voice was so even, so easy.

"Well that explains a lot." Hera picked that moment to walk in. "Yes, the power was gifted.We were gifted the lives of many others." Radella was solemn. The sons had been take, some would recall other would not. Radella could not imagine Hera's pain, yet the assassin wore no look of it on her face.

"But not everyone." Jade added. "No. It is not the first time. I believe this has happened before, long ago. It is what tore Sim'Tahl and Crendia from us, it also tore other realms from us and gave us access to places like Rhydin." Radella explained.

Jade slowly sat and Hera crossed to sit beside the lupine. "It is odd. I recall everything, yet I feel no pain over it. ""At peace." Jade added in. "Yes. That is the way it is supposed to be. You both said Cala came to you in the battle field. That can only mean you both have a larger part to play here and in the realms as a whole. What was taken from you will never be replaced, but there is a future for you both."

Radella slowly sat beside them.

"Does she stir at all?" The lupine looked to the closed doors ahead of her. "No. She breathes, and her heart beats. But nothing more. Her wounds have healed, even where the elemental blade pierced her heart. Yet still she does not wake. She took the blow for us, for the realms. I can not say what could be happening in the realm we lost. I can no longer feel it or those we knew who went there by choice or who were taken back there by magic. They are no longer in my visions..no longer apart of us."

Jade lifted the alliance pendant. "How is Sira?""She morns the loss of her love, Damien was lost in battle, and that she will never forget. Mila and Kulbin are with her. She will heal, in time. We all shall." She titled her head to the right to the sound of a low cry. She rose slowly.

"What will you do?" Hera asked softly. Wondering how the wise woman carried on so well.

"I will do as I always have, tend to my family. I feel his loss, though I know he is alive. One day his children may know him, but even if they do not. I will tell them of him, as if he died in battle. They are my children, and a gift to Edhel Ndor. Future seers." She smiled softly then walked away towards the sound of her daughter crying.

Jade sat back and looked to Hera. " You've been back to Rhydin." Hera nodded, smirking softly. That city brought her more solace than any where else of late."I saw Issy, walked around, let myself be there."

Jade nodded, soon she would return to the forsaken city as well, but not yet. "Next time you go, I'll tag along."

Hera nodded sitting back looking off in to space. Hera knew she would go back to Rhydin soon, tonight maybe or tomorrow.

So This is how you heal

There were somethings Hera Fyre could not forget, and somethings she could never forgive.

With the breeze at her back she stood on the roof top of the inn. She slid her bow, Morthond across her back and looked out to the city. Waiting on the edge was her strong suit. She had been waiting for days, for any news. Now back in the city she had returned to her old fold and the ways she had almost forgotten.

The day was warm and thus she needed no jacket. She had daggers along her belt,and there was no sign of her commonly seen double blades. Walking along the roof top she scanned the near by street below and the roof tops that spanded beyond. Like a hunter who sought prey. Seeing nothing,sensing nothing Hera walked to the edge of the roof and jumpped down to the street below.

What was it about this city? The ebb and flow of it. Hera cast her eyes off towards the place she knew she would end up sooner or later. Tucked away in tot he cliffs beyond. Sanctuary.

Looking back a the inn Hera shrugged. It would be quite within. Shifting on a heel she turned and headed up the porch steps and to the door which she opened with ease before heading in to the common room.

She was uneasy sitting around Edhel Ndor. Waiting for battle. She wasn't the only one, she had seen the lovely lupine within the city as well. Jade had her own tasks at hand. Hera wanted to keep busy until more word came. She idly touched the necklace at her neck and gazed around the inn as she walked in. A glance around was given. A smirk as she knew it would be quiet. Walking towards the bar, she deiced on something to drink would suit her before she headed out to see old friends.

Slipping through the break in the bar and heading right to the cooler Hera opened it and dug out the first cold item she found. It wouldnt have mattered to her if it was soda or beer. Popping the cap off on the side of the bar, cyan eyes took in the commons before she took a sip. Root Beer. Just as well.

Drowning ones sorrows never helped. But a good hard whiskey never hurt. Not tonight. No tonight shed have a bit of a sugar rush then go pick off riff raff down on the docks or head for the darker side of the west end.

This was healing. This was her style of healing. ~~~~~~ Lost or Found

Hera could understand reckless abandon. There were times where she wanted nothing more than to forget her oath, her promise and all her allies and just be.

But never had she known Shea to be like that.

But now Shea was missing. Her body gone from the healing room in Edhel Ndor. Taken? Or just gone? Hera had a hard time believing that Shea would just wake up and leave. It wasn't the mages way.

But then Shea had been through so much. Death could change a person. Hera knew that. So now Hera was on the hunt, off through the city. Laying ground work to find the mage. She told those who knew Shea to keep an eye out. She even called in Liam.

Some how his behind by her side for this meant more to her than anything had in so long. He didn't know Shea, had never met her. Yet there he was willing and able to be there look for her and even calm Hera down when she needed it.

Now that so many allies knew Shea was missing the hunt had begun.

"She's not at the docks." Jade waited in the shadows looking to Hera and Liam. They made a good pair, a good solid alliance there forged out of other alliances. Jade could smile at it.

They all needed healing. Maybe Shea had awoken and just left. Maybe she needed to sort things out in her own way. But they would look for her still. "We'll try by The Sanctuary." Hera offered.

Jade nodded. "I'll try the woods."

"Check in later." Jade had only nodded tot hat and walked off for the woods. The Lupine had her own methods Hera supposed. But tension was high. "We will try the Sanctuary see if anyone's seen her. Then I suppose we can canvas the rest of the city."

Liam kept quiet. If they were meant to find her friend they would. But sometimes you just needed to get gone. ~~~~ Price of Peace

The moment she sensed the mage Hera was headed back to Edhel Ndor. It made sense that Shea would go there. How many times would that place be her spot? There at the base of the great GreenStone mountains, Shea should have died. More than once.

Now the mage sat there looking very small indeed and wrecked beyond all measure. Hera could almost feel the pain, the loss, it bled from Shea like a wound. "It is a gift, not a curse." Hera spoke. When Shea's eyes opened, that cast of silver glance with no pupil. Hera felt the power. Shea seemed almost surprised to see the assassin.

Hera crossed over and sat beside Shea. Knowing the mage was trying to find a way to heal. But coming up short. The lupine was there then, in the wood. It made sense that Jade would find the mage as well. Maybe now was the moment Shea needed.

"Life is a gift, is that what you mean?" Shea smirked at Hera. And Hera saw that look in those silver eyes, as if Hera was insane, talking of life as a gift, for she who took life with a flare of fire. But it was never truly easy.

"It can be. You bare many wounds, ones that have healed from flesh and bone. But ones far deeper. Your not alone in this. We bare the weight as well. I know it was not your intent that we do, but it was the will of the power, the will of some god or goddess."

"I am not ready. I said that I was. That I was ready for all this, the power and the pain. That I was ready to give it up, to recall it all and let it go."

"We may never be ready." Jade looked over to Shea then to Hera. They shared a sisterhood, deeper than blood now.

"But we are here. We stand together. Women of a new alliance. The realms left will not fall, and we will not forsake our friends, what's left of our family."

"Looking at them.." Shea looked to the trees. " At our children, reminds me so..."

Jade nodded. "I understand that.""It is no easier for me, but somehow it is. To let him be dead, gone." "The memories are like knives." Shea hung her head.

"Then do what we must do." The voice was Radella's. The elder stood beyond the three of them."We bare the wounds of those who do not know what was. Our children can not. I have spoken with Salice and Shay. They do not bare the weight that we do. Salice does not recall any of it, nor Shay. They shall be fine. Even with the losses they bared. But we who recall live with it, in the faces of our children. They bare his eyes, or his hair color. They bare a memory. There is a place they could go. I could tell the other women about it as well, have many if not all the children go. A place where they will learn and be taught, where their gifts will be nurtured and brought to bare. They would be safe there. The very young could stay here, or go as well."

There was a moment. A pause. A mothers thought of sending her child away that gripped like cold fingers on the heart. But Hera knew she would do it, with out pause if the choice was hers.

"I'll do it." Jade spoke. "They need it, they need to be children. As I love them so. They need to go.""Will Salice send Dalryn and Lona?" Hera asked Radella. The Queen recalled none of what they did, but it would be good for the other children to go.

"The Queen thinks on it now, though she knows nothing of the man she lost nor the child she lost with him. Shay also considers sending Kaleigh. Your son and Mila think on sending Amaleigh and Adaron. I am sending my twins. They have gifts, gifts that will grow. And in time. We shall be able to put behind us what was. We all will love again. Some of us very deeply."

Shea nodded. "Do it." Radella nodded. "I shall tell the others. And help prepare the children for the journey." Radella was gone then.

Shea took a deep breath. It was a breath of a woman on the edge, stepping back.Jade wrapped her arm about the mages shoulders. Hera leaned in a bit closer. She did not have to make the same choice, hers had been made for her.

"It will be better." Jade offered. "You should go home Shea, see your sisters, your son."Shea nodded. "Yes, I know. I do not feel as if I am the same woman I was when we all set out for war."

"We are not the same." Hera said softly. "Blood and death change you. Jade and I know that better than most. But you can rise above it, we all can. It will take time. Much time even. But it can and will be done."

Shea offered them a slight smile. "Go on." Hera looked to the woods. Shea nodded and was gone in the next moment. ~~~~ The castle was whole and good. It stood as a reminder that even in battle and war it had stood.

Hera watched Shea as the mage wandered about. The children were being gathered. Packed and ready for their journey to save haven. Hera could stand and watch and feel nothing even if she felt everything.

There were no tears this time. For the battle was over. Looking up to the old embattlements she saw Shea, standing in the winds that seemed to always surround her one way or the other. The mage had helped Mina pack, had kissed her and her grand children goodbye. Jade had hugged her girls and sent them off.

It was better. It was. Even if Hera knew if it was her, shed feel a bit stricken. But it wasn't her, shed been spared that by some act of god or goddess. And for all her faults, she did not mind it.

Looking down the way as Radella ushered the children along, with the knights at her side. Hera could only take a breath. Change was in the wind. ~~~~~ Change. It was something Hera knew well enough.

She could roll with the punches. Her life had demanded it.

Now things were back to what they were, or as close as they would get. They had all hung on to hope and it had turned out well. Shea was back,and as alive as the rest of them. Even if Hera knew the woman was forever changed. They all were. In the time where they had waited, things had shifted.

“Mama?”

“Yes, my dear?”

“Can you tell me a story? It’s too cold to go outside, and the snow is thick outside the door - I can’t open it!” “Well then, what story would you like to hear? The Three Brothers? The Hopping pot? The Cackling Stump?”

“No mama! I want to hear the bear story!”

“The bear story? Ah! Little one, do you mean The Lady who Became the Beast?”

“Yes mama! Tell me about her again!”

“But little one, you must have heard me tell that story a dozen times, more than any other combined!”

“Oh mama please, but it’s my favourite!”

“Oh alright little one, if it’s what you wish.

Once, there was a magnificent family of wizards and witches, admired by almost all in their town. They were old and wealthy, for their parents and grandparents and great-grandparents had been well known for their curse-breaking and ailment-curing. The children born under their great house’s name had everything one could want for - they were never hungry, never wanted for company, and most precious of all they had all the love in the world. For the family was not only old, and great, but they were happiest surrounded by the joy of their loved ones.

Of their entire family, there was but one that lost herself in woe day after day, because this little one had been born sorely lacking in the magic that had made her family so beloved. Try as she might have, even the most simple of charms eluded her. Why, the poor young thing had never even found a wand that would bond with her - it were as though not a single drop of magic had ever touched her veins. And surrounded by the talented healers and twisty thinkers her family had been known to turn out, she felt despair grow in her soul. It grew gnarly and stubborn, an ivy root of soot and grief. As little girls are wont to do when they feel like they’re making too big of a fuss, she stubbornly refused to admit it to her parents. But in the little hours of the morning and night she whispered her sorrows to her sisters and cousins and cousins-once-or-twice removed, and when the morning came those cunning but caring little ones tugged on the sleeves of their parents and whispered their own worries. Nothing, after all, can stay secret in a crowded house, not without heartbreak.

Much ado was made as to how they could burn the thorny vines strangling the poor girl’s heart with melancholy-”

“Mama, what is melancholy again?”

“Why little one, it is grief and sadness and choking back tears because sometimes it hurts more to let them fall. I hope you will never feel melancholy, my dearest.

But their daughter did, and for days and nights the grown-ups discussed what they could do to snip back the sorrow. Arguments were made left right and center, but they eventually decided that the best way to help the girl find her worth was to explore what could be done outside of magic with her. So her siblings, and their parents, and their parents siblings stowed away their wands, swearing not to touch them until they had found the young girl’s smile once more.

Oh, it was the labour of months and years to find that smile! They worked with wood and stone, slicing their fingers and breaking their littlest bones as they puzzled out the muggle crafts that wizards have little need to study. But not one of the family regretted that decision, because as the little girl became not so little anymore, she shed the boughs of misery that had suffocated her. As time passed she blossomed and grew, a wilting sapling who matured into a mighty apple tree with the sturdiest of boughs! And from those boughs she learnt to create gifts and great crafts; magic makes things easy, but muggles and squibs master patience in their crafting. Her patience lent to her the finest of wares, and as she matured into a young woman there was nobody in the world who could make her feel less than her magically gifted family. But as it is often in these stories, that great strength bred and brewed trouble.

I can stop now, if you would like little one. My mother often did for me.”

“No mama! You’ve not gotten to the best bit yet!”

“Alright then, little one! Alright, alright! You are a different child than your old mama was, with more teeth and bright eyes, and I love you so dearly for it. But on with the story!

The young woman grew, and became her own person, seperate from her families businesses and house. She moved out, if only a few rooves away, and built up a metal shop where she created kettles and swords and all inbetween for the wizards and witches of the town to enchant. It was said she made the finest of crafts, the most delicate chains and intricate filigree. And, her name and house being what they were, this garnered her attention from suitors who would have liked nothing more than a talented wife that could tie them to that old wizard family, so well known and liked. It was so very unfortunate then, that the most pushy and obstinate of these suitors was a young braggart from the next town over. He was blond and brave, and had read rather too many stories whilst young that had seared into his brain that being blond and brave meant that you were the hero of your tale. Nothing he did was with fault because he was charming and strong, and if he was refused then surely it must have meant he was not trying as hard as he should!

It was only right, to his mind, that his wife be as strong and beautiful and brave as he! So when, whilst riding through on his way back from one of his countless adventures, he heard the idle chatter about the young lady of the house, born without magic but who had learnt to create things of wonder regardless, he jumped off his mount and demanded to be told where this wonderous lass worked! He followed their startled directions, pulling at his wrinkled shirt and smiling to himself, and when he found her little shop he pushed open the door and cried out ‘Oh lady of this smithery, pray let me see you! I have heard tell of your equal grace and strength, and wish to see it myself!’

The lady herself, of course, was not impressed by his speech. If she had wanted to listen to a man wax eloquently about a woman he had never yet laid eyes upon, she could have paid a minstrel to make up a song about her mother. But the man was a customer in her shop, and so she set aside her work and came into the common area. As soon as her feet crossed the boundary, the young man gasped in a manner most can only achieve after several years practising their theatrics. ‘And you are the lady I was told of?’ he murmured, voice hushed and quivering. ‘I suppose I am.’ the lady responded, already regretting her decision to leave her project for… this. That regret only grew as the man swept forward, taking her hand in his and proclaimed that his life had been empty before she had entered it, and that he truly could not go on without her. It was all frivol she had hear before - truly, all she wanted was to go back to her work. When she wanted love, she would find it - at that moment, she was perfectly content without it.

Oddly enough, trying to explain this to the headstrong young man did not seem to work particularly well. After a few hours of waving him away and telling him he would survive without her, the lady eventually sighed and begrudgingly told him that she might be willing to consider him if he would prove his love for her. Perhaps, she thought, the vague wording might convince him to leave her alone for at least a couple of days while he thought of some suitable gesture. Picked flowers, maybe, or wrote a bad poem. Unfortunately, though it bought her a quiet evening, the young man returned to her in the small hours of the morning, and clambered up to her bedroom window. ‘My love!’ he proclaimed, singing it as though he possessed the voice of a starling. Really, thought the young lady, he was more comparable to the crowing blue jays, smug over their newest trinket. ‘My love!’ He sang, ‘I have brought you a token of my love! An luxurious silken robe, to frame your figure and make the shine of your hair seem of starlight!’ What need she would have for a robe of silk, the lady did not know, but she supposed it would be rude to tell him so. Instead, she sighed once more and dragged herself out of bed and over to the window. ‘My lord,’ she muttered, still drowsy. ‘My lord, that is a fine gift, but not one meant for me. I do not think you love me, but rather the idea of me.’ The young man, unfortunately, did not truly listen to the lady. Instead of her sound advice, he heard only rejection. And he heard that he must try harder to have what he wanted. So, mournfully he accepted her declination of the gift and climbed down from her window. The lady breathed a quiet relief, and went about her business for the day, putting her irritating suitor out of her mind.

Much to her dismay, the young man returned in the same manor the next morning, this time bearing a gift of dozens upon dozens of crystalline bottles, filled with perfumes paper petals to hold a scent until opened. ‘My love!’ he cried, with his blue-jay tongue, ‘My love! I have brought you a gift of my love, a basket of aromas and colours that can barely equal my dizzy joy whilst in your presence! I pray, this proves my love for you!’ Again, groaning in dismay, the lady dragged herself from her warm blankets and walked to the window. ‘My lord,’ she muttered, watching him through lidded eyes, ‘my lord this gift is finer than the last. But still, it is not for me. You bought these for a princess in a tower, which I am not. Please, think of who you truly want.’ But again, his ear did not catch her words meaning. He retreated from the little shop, more determined than ever to win her.

The third morning, the lady was awoken from her slumber by the chiming of shaped glass from outside her window, and for a single moment she was tempted to attempt to slumber on. But she remembered the young man’s persistence when she had first met him, and with a grimace of resentment she left her warm sanctum and lumbered to the window. Lo, beyond her window, was the young man holding an elaborate contraction made of colourful glass bells that knocked together as he swayed on his perch. ‘My love!’ he cried ‘my love! I have brought for you a tower of radiance and angelic sound that brings to me so sweetly memories of your voice! I pray this proves my love for you! I pray!’ Beginning to dread what came next, the lady pressed her knuckles against her head. ‘My lord,’ she groaned, ‘my lord this is a gift finer and more well crafted than any of the rest! But it still, still is not for me! You bring me items of generic beauty that you might find in a palace, as though I am you fairytale bride, but I assure you I am not. I am not meant for you! Find your peace elsewhere!’ She did not wait for him to clamber down this time, and retreated to her bed with exhaustion in her bones.”

“Mama, why doesn’t he listen to her?”

“My little one, some people are blind to everything but themselves.

The young man continued to try after this, for nights and nights on end. But nothing he gathered proved him to the lady, and he began to grow resentful. She twisted in his mind, wicked and cruel in that she would not accept him even after he had given her everything short of the world! His resentment festering into hate until his fingers itched to take up his wand and lash out against her. How dare she be so entitled! The night came and went this time without his appearance, and the lady found herself relieved. Perhaps her exhausting suitor had finally listened to her, and had decided to leave her in peace. She dressed and made her way down into her workshop, but not an hour had passed before she heard an all too familiar voice calling her from the commons. ‘Lady! Come, that I might lay my eyes upon you once more, then no more!’ For a moment, the lady was tempted to leave him there. But the promise of never seeing him again was too sweet a temptation to leave, and so she laid down her tools and crossed the threshold. There stood the young man, with his wand in his hand and nothing more. ‘Have you seen sense at last?’ She asked him bluntly. ‘I believe I have.’ He claimed, raising his wand against her. ‘You asked me to prove myself, but nothing has been good enough! You prey upon me like a beast, and so a beast you shall be!’ And with the needless fury of a man who believed himself scorned, he cursed her - deep into her bones, he cursed her! In that long forgotten way in which the most ancient families weaved spells into flesh and blood, never to be revoked in their entirety, he cursed her!”

“No mama!”

“Yes, my littlest one. He cursed her, and she changed, dropping to the ground as her mouth was filled with fangs and her lips turned black as night. Slowly and screamingly, she was transformed into a lumbering bear! The young man turned his back, feeling his vengeance had been served and justice restored, but he was a fool to give his back to the creature. For the lady’s mind had been taken, but her fury was ignited with this heinous act. Unafraid, for the truly angry do not know the sting of dread, she unleashed a terrifying roar and sank her teeth into his neck, her claws into his back.

After his last cries, the beast that had once been the lady lumbered into the forests around, seeking that which all beasts do. Nights passed before her loving family heard of what had come to be, as the townsfolk did not go into her shop while it was quiet, and the screams had been short lived enough that no one had thought it suspicious. Her family found the body, and her family grieved her vanishing as they tried to piece together what had happened. In the end, it was over a full moon before they uncovered what had come to pass. Wracked by guilt, those same few that had set aside their wands for her now scoured the forests, while the rest racked their brains to take apart the curse upon her. Eventually, they did find her, and they did find a way to return her human form to her - but it was not permanent. No curse that old could possibly be broken in its entirety, much to their woe. Every night their strong, unyielding and unrepentant daughter heard the call of the bear, and each night she gave in to its song. At last, the young man had found something meant for her.”

“But mama, what happened to her afterwards? Did she stay?”

“Little one, you know she did not. After all that had passed, she knew she was too full of teeth for the whimsy and whiles of magic. She knew that the townsfolk looked upon her now with different eyes, knowing that he had ripped apart a man who had crossed her. She knew that she didn’t regret it, and in some ways that scared her more than them. But she also knew that none of them had thought her dangerous before - they knew her to be dangerous now. She did not want to stay.

And so the lady who had become a beast packed up her shop, and embraced her family once more. A testimony from Facebook of Indian brutality. I’ve edited the post only to add paragraph breaks.

In year 93 when I was still a boy, the BSF Cordoned off our locality Maharaj Gunj. As usual announcement was made on loudspeakers to gather in Sokali pora near Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal. I was naive, wearing school uniform & wasnt aware of what horrible experience I was about to undergo. As all marched towards vacant area of Sokali pora , Parade began infront Gypsy(small military jeep) which had informers inside to identify anybody (in most cases to save their own skin and apprehend someone to please their masters). It wasnt in my wildest dreams that I will face hell soon. When I stood in front the Gypsy, the sound of horn was heard and immediately my hell experience dawned upon me. My shirt was removed and I was blind folded, hands cuffed and feet tied. They kept me behind gypsy till Parade of people was completed. 7 more people were picked up. I was confused what crime I was picked up for. All of sudden they brought a Wanton, a small mini truck and we were taken to Nowhatta BSF camp where the initial interrogation will be done .

They first person who was taken to interrogation room was the guest of our neighbour. They started his interrogation at 7.30 in the morning till 11.30. You can imagine what may go through a person's mind when he knows he is the next one to be treated like that. We were in an animal slaughter house. I was hearing painful shrieks and shouts as they interrogated him. Totally unbearable. When they took him out, he was bleeding from cuts all over his body. I thought for a second he is dead, a walking Zombie.

Then i was taken in.I saw two officers (Kalia and Rajinder) .Any of you who lived in downtown during 90's will surely know these beasts. They laughed at me, I saw blood everywhere, blood stains on walls, and smell of human flesh.They stripped me naked and tied me with ropes. Electric wire was wrapped around my toes and private part.A single power touch which they gave us is equal to one thousand dog bites together. It was enormous pain and straight away bleeding started from my nose and mouth and yet they did not stop there. My left hand was cut multiple times with Razer blade and chilly was sprinkled onto the wounds. Barrage of sticks were unleashed. All I could wish or do is ask Allah to take my soul. Soon I fell down unconscious. They poured water on me, for me to regain consciousness to keep doing what they were doing. They kept asking me to hand over to them weapons and information about militants of my locality. How could a kid know all this? At least I did not. But they didnt agree ! My terrible interrogation continued . Finally I decided to lie to them in order buy some respite in ruthless beating. I told them i will lead them to a hideout. It worked out.

They brought additional forces to raid a house I mentioned as sheltering militants. I was taken to Aali kadal BSF camp and got more Force .while I stay chained inside they gypsy, I heard a voice of a little girl.... Mera bhai ko chodo woh be-gunah hai..... "leave me Brother. He is innocent." She was none other than my beloved little sister. I never felt so emotional and helpless as I felt at that moment.

Finally I took them to the house and they picked up one person namely Shakeel Ahmad who is mentally challenged . When he was brought out, he was accompanied by his sister. When she looked at me, she shed tears and told these beasts that I did the right thing to raid their house otherwise they would receive me in a shroud. When I heard these words, I folded my hands and asked for her forgiveness. She cried a lot after seeing me soaked in blood.

The BSF beasts realised I lied to them and I was returned to interrogation center and badly beaten again. Again I felt unconscious and remained so for few hours despite there attempts to get me back to my senses. A doctor was brought and he told them that I wont survive if not taken to hospital immediately.

I was released at night . My neighbours rushed me to Headwun hospital but doctors there told them to shift me to Soura medical institute. After treatment I started to recover but occupation pain will remain forever.

I dont write this to gain sympathy or trying to be some sort of a hero. This is the story of hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris. I share it to record the atrocities of this occupation and give voice to lacs of others who have had similar or worse experience.

India can hold us to it by chains but it can never ever make us Indian. We are free in our minds and soon our bodies too will be Free. One way or other. InshaAllah!

TJ stood on the porch of his family house in Beacon Hills. He hadn't been here long and he'd still be in Shadyside if he had anything to say about it. But due to a horrible accident he was forced to move here with his aunt. A lady he never knew about. He simply knew that she like himself was a wolf. And he guessed that was something good in the long run. It had been around six months since his twin sister, mother and father had been killed by hunters. The report the leagel report said massive three car pile up all parties D.O.A. TJ knew other wise. Of three things TJ knew for sure in the moment he got the call. First he lost his basketball game, second things would never be the same again, third he had being an alpha thrust upon him. TJ remembered packing his house, remembered loading the truck and meeting his estranged aunt in one day. He never ever got the chance to say goodbye to his friend. Three days later he found himself in Beacon Hills, once again he spent the day unloading the truck and unpacking at least his belongings. Everything that was his parents and sister's all went into a spare room. TJ had his room set up before the sun set. He walked out of his room and spent the next weeks more or less just thinking the same thing. 'What if?' The biggest question he'd never have an answer for. His aunt did not force him to go back to school right away. So he spent many days just sitting in his window looking out at the place he called home now. TJ didn't really know how long he was in the state of mind he was in. That is until the day he finally left his room and had this sunned need to be outside. He stopped in the door way to the kitchen "Aunt Esme am going out. I wont be out late promise." his aunt didn't stop him, he simply got a nod before he left the house. He was in his typical Jeans and hoodie. Just because he was in a new place did not mean he was going to dress any different than he did before. He still hadn't even shed tears for his sister or parents. Maybe it was that little voice in his mind telling him it wasn't true. That they where still there just not with him here. He walked, were he was going he still had no clue. He was letting this tugging sensation pull him in the direction he needed to go. He walked for about 20 solid minutes, he hadn't even realized he was walking in the woods. At least not until he came across what looked to be the oldest stump he'd ever seen standing there. He could feel it pulling to him calling him to come to it and so he did. He walked straight over and knelled before it. He reached out and placed his hand on it. A shiver ran down the young alphas spine. And before him a black wolf stood, slowly the wolf took a form but TJ couldn't for the life of him see a face. "You have many questions, but only one thing can be answered. Your biggest question, speak it and it shall be showed to you." TJ tilted his head the voice sounded female, not the voice of anyone he knew but he nodded. "What if that's my biggest question what if I hadn't had a game that night would my family still be alive?" TJ didn't even know why he was talking to this what ever it was. He knew that it couldn't answer the once thing he'd always wonder. But before he realized what was happening the figure had closed the distance between them, tapped TJ's head and whispered "Sleep and you shall see the truth." TJ didn't feel tired he didn't want to sleep, but his eyes closed with out his permission and he felt to the side. He'd probably feel the landing later but as soon as his eyes closed six months earlier started flashing before his mind and the figure was now standing beside him. TJ could make out that it was a woman in her mid fourties maybe. "They can't hear you, but you can see what would have happened." TJ looked to the woman before the images changed and before him stood his family. His sister, looking right thought him at the moment, his mother with her back to him talking intently with his father. He watched as his parent's voices rang out. "The games been canceled, We should probably go and figure out a way to help cheer him up." TJ didn't understand why he'd need cheered up, he had often had games being canceled. Even big ones like the last one of the season. The view however panned over to TJ in his room having looked like he had actually been crying he was on the phone with someone he couldn't tell who though. Soon he heard his own voice and god he sounded sad. "It just sucks, I was looking forward to this game. It's the game the scouts were going to be at. You know I can't get into college with out that." TJ stood watching himself wondering who he was talking to on the phone. But then it dawned on him the only person he really called was Cyrus so that must be who he was talking. "But what if they don't do a make up game Niceberg?" Had he just waited he'd have known with out all the thinking. TJ's phone call was interrupted by his parents speaking. "TeeJ we will be back we are going to get dinner. Do you want anything special?" The him holding his cell looked up from where he was staring and nodded. "Baby Tatters and a harvest spice milkshake please." he could hear Cyrus groaning even though he couldn't actually hear what Cyrus was saying he knew Cyrus had always hated his love of all things harvest spice. Because no TJ pumpkin with everything is not good or at least that is what he was told. "Don't start with me Niceberg I need a fix and the common stuff will not help me in this case." TJ watched himself talking to Cyrus for a good 20 minutes before saying he'd talk to him later. TJ could see that the version of him he was watching was starting to worry. The moment he realized something was wrong was the moment his eyes started to burn. It was a worse pain than he'd ever felt in all his life. Pain had been so bad that it caused him to hit the floor before he heard his cell going off. He reached blindly for the phone that had fallen with him. TJ watched as he answered the phone, watched as the heart wrenching knew hit him and his eyes snapped open. His eyes no longer yellow but blazing red. TJ new as he was watching himself that his parents where gone his sister just like before. Both versions of TJ broke down in that moment and before he knew it the images all faded and he was back at the stump with the woman. "You knew didn't you? That no matter what they still would have been killed didn't you?" He growled even thought he hadn't ment to. The ghost of a woman nodded. "Yes Theodore but you had to see it for your self to fully understand that there was nothing you could have done, nothing that would have changed it. But most importantly you needed to know it was not your fault. " TJ looked at the ghost as his tears fell freely. "I wish it had been me, why did it have to be them?" He was crying and not that little cries but big ugly tears. "Fate is off that way Theodore, it's something we as humans and supernaturals may never know. But you lived, you still carry them with you. They are not as gone as you think they are." TJ stood and nodded. "Thank you, ummm, who are you again? How do you know my name." The ghost slowly started to shrink back into a wolf. "Talia Hale, and I've a son that's been through what you have. I am proud to say he turned into an amazing man and so will you." After that to woman was a wolf and had fadded away. TJ slowly very slowly made his way back to his aunt's house and he didn't want her to see that he'd been crying. But all to fast he found himself at the front door he pushed it open his aunt was still in the kitchen, "I'm back I'll be in my room." he spoke and rushed off to his room, collapsed on his bed and let himself cry. he cryed until the last tear was falling then the rag started but most of all is the rage !

As a little kid I used to go to my grandmas house and great grandma and grandpas house and we would always have a big Christmas and a big Thanksgiving together but over time when we slowly started moving away it was me, mom, dad and both my siblings. Back in 2017 I moved to this house in the same town as my mom, dad and siblings so I could live here with this old man and take care of him. My moms friend is the one who pays the bills and brings in food because I have to be here with him 24/7. He might be getting worse in the head but he still can do a lot of things so its my job to make sure he doesn't slip away and go to a neighbors house or get lost and I help when he craps himself and cuts his legs or arm on accident because his skin is so thin. Its almost been three years living here now.

We do try to go out a bit because it can be isolating to be here 24/7 without me getting out too often and this Thanksgiving I got to go to her house (moms friend who is also mine) and I will get to go there for Christmas too. She is trying to help me get insurance to get my teeth fixed and get many other things for me because she knows how long its been without good teeth and she wants to help make sure I get help I need. I hate change but also I’m a Sagittarius so I also want adventure. Lmao I know. Its confusing. I am used to moms homemade buns and a lot of other good stuff so its always hard when I know she has moved an hour away from me to be with my sister to help her and her husband take care of their three month old baby. I feel a change happening. I feel me somehow shedding the old me and leaving it in 2019 and cool things beginning in 2020.

I often find myself feeling trapped because the words I wish to speak don't come out. I don't have the right words to explain what I want to say and it leaves me feel very isolated and trapped inside my head. Many times in the past by certain people in my life i have been told that my interests are dumb (not those exact words tho cuz I forgot) and I get told my issues are “the same shit but a different day” so if I feel like my problems aren't real or worth telling others I just don't bother (i used to a lot but when it began to be pointless it happened a lot less) and so I’m trying to get through past things and maybe not blow all my issues onto everybody. Anyway. Past stuff is hard to explain. What I’m trying to say is I’ve been so down and so, so sleep deprived and not knowing what to do so getting to have Christmas with someone because mom and everybody isn't here will be fun. Its going to be hard trying to stop telling myself that me complaining about issues of my past that was fault isn't me playing victim but just me trying to figure out what is wrong with me and what causes me to be a terrible person and treat people like I treat myself and that because of how I was treated in the past I now have become someone who is mad and sad and nervous all the time and there is this deep self hatred and insecurity about my body and much more that is weighting me down.

Many things that have made me feel terrible for so long and change is a lot and maybe things will get better soon. From the thing with dad to me hating my body and me being terrible and letting it out on others just because I feel easily cornered and irritated and telling myself how dumb I am and that I cant do math or drive and I’m not smart enough for a job and a lot more its no surprise I am so lost in my head all of the time. Even as a little kid I would get emotional before mom saw the report card because I assumed as usual that it was all Cs and Ds. From a very young age I have always told myself I’m not very bright and I still say those exact words even today. I say I’m not very bright a lot. The thing with dad mixed with my deep body insecurity and my guilt of how I treated others to help out frustration is a big reason why I hope I get therapy in 2020 and find some deep inner peace and become a good person. At least as best as I can be. I have to own up that yes Its a mixture of others but a big reason why I’m miserable is because of my poor choices. Fessing up about your behavior and choices and realizing how badly you messed up isn't easy but I need to do this. I wont stop running into the same wall if I don't do something different.

My life story, my mother;part one. Her drinking problem. (No. 2)

Since i was a baby, she did her best with me to make sure there was a roof over our head. I was never rich, and we never will be not poor. From living in a shed, to a homeless shelter, to families houses to our own then apartments we cant be more than happy in. We never lived on the streets and she did her best to keep me a happy child, like nothing was wrong, like we weren’t poor. And i stayed my happy self when i got older. Completely blind to what was going on around me. That surely kept my mental state not as bad as it could have been. Shes a great woman, i’m thankful for all shes done to get us where we’re at today. Shes nice, sweet and a good person... when shes sober. But...Soon, i fear I wont be able to stand her anymore. She’s addicted to drinking and wont give me a chance to talk to her while also being quite destructive to my mentality.

Lets start with her drinking. Apparently shes been doing it since before i was born she tells me while in her upset drunken state sometimes. Remember, she had me when she was 18, shes been doing this while in high school or even sooner. Besides that, up until one day when i think i was around...8-10 maybe? is when i noticed she had a problem. Remember how I told you My mind kept me blind to a lot of bad things? this was one of them, and It never came to me until this day. Back when it was just me and my mom living in a house My cousin stayed over. Nothing new, she came over before... and we usually did our usual things. It wasn’t till the evening where my mom did her daily routine of getting drunk until My cousin pointed out to me that my mom was acting more... bad than usual. She was yelling, throwing things... And my cousin and I hid in my closet until her dad could come pick us up. My cousin, thank god for her. Shes was like an older sister i’ll never have. we grew up together.. but slowly stopped seeing one another after she had to deal with her dad’s wife’s kids... which are now her step siblings. Going back to others leaving after they get something better and new...But back on track...After that... I noticed her lashes more. In the house, I don’t really remember them really getting out of hand until my mom moved us into apartments.

That was when she... started getting bad. She was yelling, screaming at night at things, blaring music....acting like a teenager and a child. I didn’t understand why... I started to avoid her, because it only meant trouble if I went around her like this.Not that she ever physically hurt me when like this, but mentally its taken a toll on me. My grandmother Joyce also told me not to bother her when shes drunk so I never did. One night of getting drunk out of her mind turned to two, then 4, then every evening until she started when right after I got out of school. It made it hard for me to talk to her about anything. I needed to avoid her, and how are you able to have a serious conversation with a drunk person? This is my first reason why I don’t and am afraid to tell/talk about my feelings. My mind tried to suppress these these feelings like they did with my childhood, but it wasn’t something I could do. I was forced to watch the woman I looked up to and could come to anything for, become unrecognizable and someone I just couldn’t stand. Someone I couldn’t be around, someone who I... started to not recognize as my mother. This distance grew, and grew by the days passing.

To this day I still call her “Mom” But... Do i really see her fully as such...? Yeah, when sober, she cooks, cleans, watches movies... and.... acts herself. I love this mother. I love her when shes sober. I wish for more than anything that she wasn’t so dependent on beer and alcohol. We would have such a good relationship. Though... due to the mindset of needing to avoid her, knowing that later on she’s just going to get drunk again its hard to actually talk and be around her. She even sometimes stole the little money i had to buy A beer, which made me start hiding it. As I grew older, i got used to it. I got used to the pain of holding in my feelings and suffering both me and my mom went though. Ive tried to tell her that her Drinking has affected us both horribly and will worse in the future if she kept going like she did, but she never listened. She never considered my feelings, and never will. I hate it when people encourage her, giving her money for such, like she doesn’t already have a problem....I wish she didnt drink.
